There’s something about it that just kills my calf and shin muscles to the point that I can’t run very long. I’m sure my form is changed just enough to throw me off that little bit on the treadmill. Today I made the decision that I’m going to have to toughen up and run on the track. A couple weeks ago I commented that it had been in the 30s when I was going for my runs, well that was nothing, considering I think it was in the upper 30s. This morning it was 25 or so when I left the house, 30 when I returned. It was cold, but good! I was a bit worried that my knee might not hold up, as I started having issues with it a couple weeks ago, but I wore my knee strap and I didn’t feel any pain throughout the run. Last night I was so proud of myself, I ran/jogged 10 minutes straight! I wasn't so sure it was going to be a good run at first. I start my "fitness week" each Friday and do my weigh in, etc that day as well. I went to the gym early on Saturday as well as Sunday for an hour and a half each visit. Then, on Monday I went after work. Tuesday I was just mentally drained from having a nonstop weekend, as well as a hectic start to the week, so I didn't go to the gym then or Wednesday either. I'm so excited that my diet and exercise plan is actually working. I've been continuing to go to the gym 4 - 5 times per week. I do cardio as well as strength training, which I think really helps. Last night I went to a local gym to tour it, they gave me two free passes to try it out before I decide to become a member. I used my first pass tonight. I spent an hour on the treadmill, and feel great. A little sore, but that's ok. I was pretty nervous since I haven't really used a gym in a good 10 years, but I was glad to be back. We had a potluck holiday lunch at work, and then the next day we had our holiday lunch that was sponsored by my employer. Today as I was driving home from work, I started thinking about the night ahead of me. I was going to try to have a decent dinner, get on the elliptical for a half hour, and just have some me time. I couldn't even walk without pain, so I'm not sure if it was a lack of stretching, just too much force on my knees or what. This week started off a little shaky with me being on vacation (my eating habits get out of whack when I'm not at work), but with the purchase of my new iPhone app that logs pictures of my food as well as going back to Lean Cuisines for lunch (tasty, yet few calories) I feel like I'm back on track. I found an app called "Foodish" that allows me to use my phone to take a picture of everything I eat, and then rate it on how healthy it is. Sun, 12 Jun 2011 09:44:16 EST Beginning of a healthy week I woke up this morning feeling like this is going to be a good week. I stocked up on fruits and veggies at the grocery store yesterday and have my week planned out for the most part. Last week I bought an iced tea maker for making fresh iced tea (from bags or loose tea). Much healthier than the powder mixes I used to get, and since I'm a tea lover, just don't like hot tea as much in the summer, it works out great. Well today was definitely much more challenging, I moved onto week 2 of the C25K, which involves 90 second runs and 120 second walks. I'm looking forward to starting week 2 on Saturday. It combines 90 second runs and 2 minute walks (week one was 60 second runs and 90 second walks). I really think this is a great program. I've never been a runner, and in the past have hated running, but maybe that's because I've never tried hard enough or been very successful with it. This time... It says it's about 78 degrees out there, but it felt like 90 with the humidity. Either way, I think it went well. I completed all 9 runs successfully. I started this program on Saturday, so I'm hoping to finish out the week on Thursday. About a month ago I bought an app for my phone that would guide me through a Couch to 5K. It sounded really motivating, and I wanted to start jogging again. I have 2 cats and a dog (6 lb yorkie), and between the 3 of them there was always one who seemed to want to help me when I was on the floor trying to do my exercises. This definitely isn't easy work, as I have to watch my portion control very carefully, make sure I exercise daily, and avoid snacking, one of my biggest downfalls.
