PRIMA_DONNA's SparkPeople Blog PRIMA_DONNA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community MIA It's been a busy several weeks, and I'm just now getting around to posting on Spark again...

First the breast surgery for a lump that, thankfully, was benign. It was still cause for concern, though; and I had to devote my energies for getting past that... Had surgery two weeks ago, today, and all is well!

Now I'm busy getting ready for my walk, on October 6, for Autism Speaks. I'm so proud to be doing this for my 3 boys! Today I walked for an hour and 10 minutes, 3.7... Fri, 21 Sep 2007 11:34:44 EST Coming out of Left Field... Unfortunately, I'm having some health issues that come as a complete surprise.

I'm so thankful that I've spent the last year "getting healthy," so no matter what the outcome with this situation, I'll be ready to fight it!

Deb posted a journal starter that said something like, "if you've asked God for something, how are you prepared to work alongside Him to make it happen?" Great food for thought...

I'm ready to do all, within my physical, mental and emotional... Wed, 29 Aug 2007 16:36:53 EST August 22 - What situations or stressors challenge you to run to a As I've told so many, my fortress (call it my sanctuary), is my sunroom off my bedroom, that I created when my mother was so ill and living with us. She and my brother, who was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer, had moved in with DH and myself, into our tiny house (2 bedrooms); and it was quite a transition for all of us.

I cleared out the end of the sunroom, where I have bookshelves, sewing machine, cd storage, etc., and put in a love seat and an overstuffed chair. When I ne... Wed, 22 Aug 2007 21:15:08 EST Super Week! This past week was really a good one!

I started the 90-day Renewal study; and it has been so inspiring. The study, in itself, has not changed my eating or exercise habits; but it's caused me to think more about myself as body, soul and spirit--one entity.

There were a couple of little blips, not enough exercise for one thing; but the weather has been so terribly hot that there's just no time to get outside and do anything comfortably. Tomorrow I will go back to Curves,... Sun, 19 Aug 2007 13:29:33 EST It's Day 1 (Again!) Tomorrow begins my 90-Day Renewal, and I'm really excited about the new challenge. I think we all need to change our routine, from time to time; and this came along just when I needed it.

The past two days have been wonderful. The trip to the conference was so uplifting, and I'm just really encouraged that with God's help I can get my journey moving forward once again. Sun, 12 Aug 2007 16:39:23 EST Still Not Back on Track... It's pretty obvious, from the fact that I haven't posted here in a couple of weeks, that I'm still having difficulty regaining control of my food and exercise.

This past week was the first week, since the beginning of summer, that I haven't had little ones in the house. They were my excuse for not staying on track--I no longer have that excuse, and I'm still not doing well.

I can't let this continue, or I'll be losing ground. Right now I think I'm probably maintaining,... Thu, 2 Aug 2007 18:37:57 EST It's Been A Long Three Weeks! Wow, I think it's been 3 weeks since I posted here. First there was the trip for the family reunion, then grandkids visiting, then I was sick for several days, then off to help DD for a week....

Thankfully, through all that, I've been able to maintain the weight loss, in spite of being out of control of meal planning and lack of exercise. This, in itself, proves to me that when I do actually reach my goal, I can maintain without obscessing for periods of time.

This wee... Sun, 15 Jul 2007 19:37:07 EST Every Week Is Different Good weeks -- bad weeks... They come in pairs! The last week-and-a-half has been difficult. I'm still trying to learn how to deal with "out of the ordinary" situations when I'm not totally in control of my eating and exercise possibilities.

Having little ones in the house, and then birthday and Fathers' Day celebrations threw a monkey wrench into my "plans." Unfortunately, I haven't lost anymore; but somehow I've managed to stay the same. Considering all the tempting situation... Thu, 21 Jun 2007 16:11:49 EST Woo Hoo! What a great week it was, health wise!

I lost another 3 lbs, and I have walked 13 days out of the past 15 and have also gone to Curves a few times. This week I'm planning to do my regular 3 visits to Curves in addition to walking 35 - 40 minutes, 6 x a week. I'm so amazed; I can't believe I'm able to do this. There's only a handful of things in my closet that fit anymore, and I've got to make a decision about getting some stuff that doesn't just hang off me. Who would have ever... Mon, 4 Jun 2007 09:18:20 EST Best Week So Far... This past week has been awesome as far as my eating and exercise is concerned.

Thanks to Bonnie, on the You on a Diet team, and her desire to get the team moving again, I've been reinvigorated! I have been walking and going to Curves consistently. I've walked every day, and some days I went to Curves as well. I don't know why I didn't start this regime sooner...

My eating has not been "perfect," but I certainly haven't had a blow-out, and the result is that I dropped ... Sun, 27 May 2007 12:45:23 EST Happy Mothers' Day to me... Just a quick post, before I'm off and running.

No mother could be any happier and proud than I am of all my six kids! With oldest DS receiving his Master's this weekend, it has just reaffirmed to me that my kids are absolutely the best! They all have degrees, and 3 have advanced degrees; five of the six are married and very, very happy! They're all gainfully employed...ahhh, life is good!

Another busy week on the horizon, but that's good. "Not busy" is boring and an ... Sun, 13 May 2007 09:02:50 EST Busier and Busier Woo Hoo! Three pound loss last week, and am I happy or what? Oh, yes!

I'm really surprised, because although I didn't have any really bad episodes of eating outside my plan, I didn't stick to it religiously. It just shows that as long as I stay within reasonable guidelines, the weight can still come off.

This week will be another intensive 7 days. There's something out of the ordinary every day, but, hey, that's life; and I have to learn to function in these circumst... Sun, 6 May 2007 21:01:35 EST April's Gone and No Showers!!! Wow, I can't believe April just came and went... It's almost summertime!

Hopefully, this will be the time of year when I can be the most successful in moving toward my "healthy me" goal. With all the opportunities to be outdoors and the healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables available, there'll be no excuse for not moving forward. Sun, 29 Apr 2007 16:22:17 EST Another Busy Week It's funny--just when I think I'm going to have a whole week, to myself, to get organized, my calendar explodes with obligations. This coming week is no exception.

Tonight we took dinner to DS and DIL, tomorrow night we go to see our DGD's concert and Thursday is another DGD's birthday celebration. On Friday we bring two DGS's home with us for the weekend. As my dear mother used to say, "There's no rest for the weary..." or was that "wicked?"

I am going to MAKE the ti... Mon, 23 Apr 2007 21:55:06 EST The Blustery Day... Wow, Winnie the Pooh would feel right at home here today! I don't know how fast the wind is gusting, but the huge oak tree (probably 100 years old) is swaying outside the window. It is clear and sunny, though, which gives me hope that I'll actually be able to plant some stuff tomorrow.

Last week was pretty much a washout for healthy eating and exercise. I only went to Curves 2x and ate way too much stuff not on my plan. I've got to get to the point where I don't let "changes in... Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:07:22 EST A Week Without Freezing Temps.... Wow, it was a tough week last week! We lost our plums, blueberries and the flowers on our azaleas, jasmine and some other shrubs. According to the weather folks, though, the bad stuff is past; so, hopefully, I can get out and work in the yard this week. I surely hope so; it's really put a crimp in my exercise program. I was counting on "gardening" to be my primary source of exercise for the entire spring and summer.

We had a lovely Easter celebration with Laurie & family and Jo... Tue, 10 Apr 2007 17:54:34 EST Palm Sunday The beginning of a new week and the most precious time of the year on the church calendar. I look forward to Holy Week services and spending time with family this week.

Unfortunately, I didn't get in nearly as much exercise last week as I would have liked. I had a couple of days when I was feeling really rocky--hay fever with accompanying headache. After today's rain, perhaps the pollen will be cleared out of the air for awhile; and I'll feel more like getting outside.
<BR... Sun, 1 Apr 2007 22:08:15 EST Spring Is Here! Woo Hoo! Wow, it's amazing what a difference a week can make! First of all, I dropped 2 lbs this past week, and I KNOW it's because of being dedicated to eating "clean" and a lot of exercise. Both of these came about because of challenges on 2 of my teams. It was just really a great week.

Coming up, I've got a night out on Tuesday; and that's going to be a little difficult; because we're staying with friends and eating out--two partially uncontrollable situations. All I can do is the "b... Sun, 25 Mar 2007 18:27:32 EST Beginning of a New Week! Last week was wonderful, and I'm looking forward to good things this week too.

Carol's starting a Boot Camp on GOG which should be fun, and things are progressing right along at YOAD. The Gardening Team is doing better than I ever could have imagined, and along with that, I've been able to get out and work in the garden a good bit. That's always a joy for me.

Linda and I had such a great time going to see Josh Groban at Phillips Arena, and the hotel and dinner were jus... Sun, 18 Mar 2007 15:31:38 EST Beautiful Spring Day Oh, it's been so wonderful to be able to get out and work in the yard! All winter long I struggled with the exercise issue, finally settling on Curves, which turned out to be a good thing. But gardening is what I really LOVE to do, and now I can!

Weighed in at Curves today and had lost 10 lbs since the last time I weighed back before Christmas. Of course, that's not much pro rated over three months, but it's better than gaining 10 lbs. I'd also lost a lot of inches. I knew tha... Wed, 14 Mar 2007 19:08:23 EST New Week Starting Out Well Largely due to the two main challenges I'm participating in -- one on GOG and one on the Gardening Team -- I've really been faithful about exercising. Of course, part of that is working in the garden which I dearly love. I have a difficult time accepting it as "exercise." But, well, what can I say....Spark calls it exercise!

My eating stays consistently good as long as I'm at home. My problems come when I'm where I'm not in control, i.e., kids' houses. Even at restaurants, I k... Tue, 6 Mar 2007 20:37:28 EST Tremendous Week! I have been derelict in posting to this blog, but things have really been moving fast...

Last week I was sick most of the week, but that's done. This week has really been great! Between the Lenten Challenge on GOG and our May Day Challenge on the Gardening Team, I have really felt compelled to, primarily, GET THAT EXERCISE in each day!

The Gardening Team has just taken off, and I am so thrilled. I'm sure that the fact that Spring is just around the corner has somethin... Fri, 2 Mar 2007 14:34:08 EST Whata Week! Wow, this has been a week to remember! I agreed to take over the Gardening Team, and my goal was to get the topics on the threads reorganized--easier said than done! Thank goodness for my experience with You On A Diet, or I could never have done it. I do so appreciate, Matti, Sara, Bonnie and the others on that team!

Through all of this, I've done very well on my eating, not so well on the exercise--maybe this is because I've been at the computer almost every waking minute, and ... Fri, 16 Feb 2007 13:09:09 EST Beautiful Day I'm still having a hard time getting back on track after the big birthday weekend. So far, this morning, I've done well with my eating; but I'm still not exercising, and I definitely need to get back in the groove on that or this is never going to work. Wed, 7 Feb 2007 10:29:05 EST Tough Week This week has been a little tougher than usual. I'm not having any trouble staying with my eating plan, but my exercise has been non-existent.

We had two grandsons--3 and 4-year-olds--from Thursday night until yesterday; and they just about wear me out! It was too cold to let them go out and play very much, so we had to entertain them in the house most of the time. By the time my head hit the pillow at night, I was out like a light.

This weekend is DH's birthday party... Tue, 30 Jan 2007 00:00:00 EST Good Week! This has been a really good week for me! DH has gone west to visit family, and it's given me a chance to regroup (and have control of the remote!!!).

Today I had lunch with Debbie at Applebys, and I had the chicken, apple, walnut salad--the half portion. It was very good, and I didn't touch the grilled white bread they sent with it--didn't even want to...

I've been to Curves twice this week, so far; and if I go tomorrow, which I plan to do, I'll be back on track. I ha... Thu, 18 Jan 2007 14:08:17 EST Staying on Track Wow, I can't believe that I've managed to stay on track for nearly two weeks! That's not to say I haven't eaten anything that wasn't appropriate, but when I've gone outside my plan, I did it knowingly...lunch at P F Chang on Tuesday, but I didn't gorge myself. And the scale isn't showing any damage.

I've still got to get more exercise in my regime. I'm doing Curves 3x a week, but I know I need to be doing more. I looked for pedometers at Wal Mart this week, but ours didn't have... Thu, 11 Jan 2007 19:55:18 EST Trouble Goal Only one of many is the 8 glasses of water! I'm going to make a very, very serious effort to accomplish this over the coming week. It's just so easy NOT to do...because I don't CRAVE water! I'm going to try to think of a reward, for myself, if I can do this for a whole week... Sun, 7 Jan 2007 15:57:42 EST What Day Is This??? The holidays have messed me up big time...I don't even know what day it is!

I do know that I've gotten back into my eating/exercise routine; and it feels so good. It seems, though, each time I just get settled in, something comes along, in my life, to throw a monkey wrench into everything. I know, though, that this is part of the learning experience too. I have to learn to not let everything go to pieces whenever there's a bump in the road. The more it happens, and the more succes... Wed, 3 Jan 2007 22:10:32 EST Where Did Christmas Go???... ...that's what my 2-year-old grandson said to his mother when he came downstairs, the day after Christmas and realized the tree was empty of gifts!

Well, Christmas, the celebrated holiday, is gone for another year; but as Scrooge said (to paraphrase), "we need to keep Christmas in our hearts all year long." For my family, it was magnificent. We all enjoyed one anothers' company and shared meals and great times together. What a blessing...

Now to get back to business--thi... Wed, 27 Dec 2006 14:37:51 EST Intense Week As I prepared to make this entry, I received a phone call saying that the daughter of a friend of ours just committed suicide. The young woman was preparing to graduate from college; she was an extremely talented musician. Her family had traveled to the school, for her graduation, and when she didn't show up for a family get together, they searched and found her--their only daughter, dead by her own hand.

Life is so puzzling, even for those of us who are Christians. This week we... Sat, 16 Dec 2006 15:17:31 EST It's Monday So It Must Be Blog Day! Well, last week was really busy; but what else is new for any of us at this time of year!!! I stayed on course, for the most part, most of the week; managed to get to Curves 3x which is one committment I have been able to keep without fail.

Lots going on this week--dr appointment today; had bloodwork drawn, so I'm anxious to see how the cholesterol is; tomorrow going up to SC and Friday dinner out with friends.

Still don't have the Christmas tree up. I guess we'll try to... Mon, 4 Dec 2006 18:19:34 EST Great Weekend in Florida! Had Thanksgiving at our daughter's house in SC and then drove down to Florida to visit family and friends. I managed to get in two trips to Curves last week but had hoped to do three. Of course, I ate more than I should have; but I'm not discouraged. I can get back in step and, hopefully, lose a few more pounds before Christmas. We've got several more holiday occasions, but I'll try to plan ahead. Tue, 28 Nov 2006 19:22:43 EST So So Week After going down to Atlanta on Sunday and "partying" with my cousins, I've had a little trouble getting back on track. Then, of course, there's Thanksgiving staring me in the face and the trip to Florida. I did go to Curves Monday & Tuesday, and I've got a Travel Pass, so I'm really going to try to go, at least once, while we're away from home. This is going to be a difficult test. Wed, 22 Nov 2006 19:36:05 EST Great Weekend on the Polar Express! What a blessing! The beautiful trip to the NC mountains, the B & B stay and the train trip--also the wonderful Italian dinner at Pasquelinos! I "planned" my splurges, the breakfast (Belgian waffles) and the dinner out (chicken breast with blue cheese sauce) then came home and got right back on track! I even had a couple of glasses of wine with the chicken. It is so much easier to just plan ahead then to throw yourself into a situation without any plan for control. Thank you Lord for the gift ... Tue, 14 Nov 2006 16:19:46 EST Another good week Stepped on the scales this morning--drumroll, please!! down another 2.1 lbs! I think bumping up my workout at Curves has probably boosted my metabolism, and staying on top of the challenge, at Kindred Spirits, to drink 8 glasses of water a day, has begun to make a difference. Now I want to start thinking about how to get through the holidays without goofing everything up... Mon, 6 Nov 2006 11:47:25 EST Good Week! I've met my water goal for this week, so far, thanks to the challenge from 40 Days of Purpose; and we're having so much fun on Girls of God. I've been pretty consistent in my eating and just went slightly over (-20 cal) my calorie limit one day. I'm satisfied with my progress. Fri, 3 Nov 2006 08:14:17 EST First Day Although I've been in Spark for 3 months, this is the first time I've posted to my blog. I'm excited about the future and this journey that I'm on to regain the healthy body God has blessed me with, in spite of my excess weight. I want to do this for Him. Wed, 1 Nov 2006 09:26:20 EST
