(And my garden pics at last) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6183953 Tuesday we got to the airport, to be met by a 'cancelled' message on the departures screen for our flight. The French air traffic controllers were striking, so probably safer NOT to fly. So back to the house went, in another hire car , for an extra 2 days. On the way to the house, we stopped off to shop as we had frozen or thrown away remaining food. Our other option, paid for by Easyjet, was. 2 nights in a hotel in Toulouse, with meals thrown in. Fine you might say, except that we had no spa... Thu, 16 Jun 2016 10:23:51 EST Garden pics - I can see the other end! Just not here...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6181791 Once again the Internet has just been too slow to upload pics.
I'll just have to wait till we get home. 39
Yesterday looked like being a cooler day, too cold for the coast, so we found 3 vide greniers (car boot sales) and came home with a Martini optic holder, which we can put on the wall by the bar in the games room. I'll take a pic of the bar so you get the idea of how it looks.

The afternoon was spent preparing chocolate chip cherry ice cream and coffee ic... Antirrhinums needed planting, along with 2 miniature roses, a white lavender and a flat leaf parsley. Also, the large rosebud needed weeding badly. All done! I love my garden no could spend all day, every day, weeding, digging, planting and generally pottering about. Yesterday I planted out the edible flower seedlings. Tomorrow I need to plant out the butternut squash plants I raised from seed.
... Sun, 5 Jun 2016 17:23:50 EST Day 3 of return to gym post-op http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6175942 We had a late night last night at my niece's for dinner. It was a great chilli and chocolate dessert. I ate some of everything and had 1 small glass of wine, but felt stuffed. I decided to get up when I woke up this morning and was glad to wake up at 7:20.

I took my time, didn't rush, had my usual juice and cereal th yoghurt, then drove to the gym and managed a 70 minute workout, including treadmill with a 5% incline, and stretching on the Powerplate to finish.

This aft... We meet up every few months for a ladies' lunch and also with our other halves for a dinner out a bit less frequently. Lunch was great, but too much. Finished baking the brownies at Yvonne's and they loved them!! Such a great recipe, even though I rushed it, changed the oat... I last went in February, a week before my scheduled hysterectomy, or so I thought.....

5 days before the op it was cancelled and rescheduled for the previous day. All day on 8th March I sat and waited; at 4:45 it was cancelled again - not happy! I spent the rest of the week phoning the hospital and on Friday it was again rescheduled for 15th March. This time, the op went ahead, successfully. I was due a morphine pump post op, but no, no... Wed, 1 Jun 2016 16:35:10 EST Dear Fitbit One, I have a bone to pick with you! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6124497 It's like this... We've been together over a year now. I adopted you as a replacement for ,'the one that got away!' I've religiously worn you everyday, never putting you through the washing machine, endeavouring to do my best, challenging friends, even persuading my DH to adopt your cousin Fitbit HR to keep you company.

And then it happened! Last week, I had to have major surgery, so, although you came with me to hospital, I left you in my handbag as I wasn't walking anywhere. Day ... Mon, 21 Mar 2016 15:35:12 EST Post-hysterectomy, determined to avoid iron tablets http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6123664 On Friday, the day I was due to be discharged, my haemaglobin levels were checked. It was decided to prescribe iron tablets, as I seem to be anaemic, but no doctor followed up to discuss how anaemic. Now, I've been prescribed iron tablets before and I don't intend to take them again. The thing is, they constipate me, so I've made my mind up to tackle this head on, with nutrition. I have started to track iron on my food tracker and researched what foods are high in iron. Luckily, I like them,... Sun, 20 Mar 2016 15:14:11 EST 4 days post-op - finally home!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6122958 Yesterday, I thought I would be going home. Then, part way through the afternoon, the Drs decided to test my haemaglobin levels; they were low, so iron tablets are the plan. Iron tablets constipated me, so I will try the natural way to add iron to my diet. I'm pretty good at eating to a target, whether it be fibre or other nutrients. The only problem was, as they were waiting for my blood results to come back, so they didn't process my other meds. As I'm on Tramadol, which is a controlled dru... I've been a model patient and now I'm ready to convalesce in the comfort of my own home.

The nursing and auxiliary staff all do their best, but,

'There's no place like home!'

I shall blog again, once I've made it to the outside. Fri, 18 Mar 2016 04:39:12 EST 2 days post-op http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6121470 Yesterday I wrote my first blog in hospital as I floated along on my morphine cloud. It helped with the pain and after I finished that blog, I drifted off into deep slumber. And how I needed that!

I must have slept for eight hours solidly, with only a couple of brief interludes, when my closest bed neighbour was being checked over by nurses and insisted on sharing her experience with the whole ward at high decibel levels, however she is only to be forgiven, as she is terminally ill... I was at the time not ready for the finality of a hysterectomy, despite being sterilised in the year 2000. Afterwards, I decided that, should fibroids return, that this would be the time to do so, when I would be emotionally ready.

Last year, my previous symptoms returned and so I took myself off to see the doctor in readiness. I explained that I... Wed, 16 Mar 2016 18:27:23 EST Family gatherings..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6100704 My stepdaughter is married to a liberal Jew. The family are lovely and we are always included in family occasions. There are 2 step granddaughters. Isla is 20 months old - her blessing was last year and she screamed throughout the service and her party. Today was Imogen's blessing; both girls slept through the service and there were no histrionics at all. Imogen is 2 months old and better with crowds. I parked right away from the entrance and made my way in. After this month, I will have 2 months off, recuperating after my hysterectomy in early March, so I want to be fit for surgery and recovery. This week I have upped the reps on my exercises and I am now rowing for 3 X 10 minutes, twice the time of when I started... I took my time with breakfast and got ready for the gym, leaving just after 9:00 - big mistake! It was really busy and I had to swap round my workout, BUT I pushed myself more - I did 25 minutes of rowing, bringing my workout to over an hour. Last night my daughter helped me make up a playlist - what a difference that made to my workout!!

After the workout, I booked a massage for Monday after my gym session. So the day went well.

My daughter's day wasn't so good. She had a vaccination for meningitis and was only told yesterday that it would be done today. We did our weekly food shop and came out in blustery winds. In the afternoon we went to visit a tenant, who is recovering incredibly from a bleed on the brain, at 81. We didn't think he was going to make it, but this week he came home from brain injury rehab for a visit with his OT and Physio, making it upstairs on his own. I also taught a cookery lesson and supported a trainee teacher in a science lesson. I had also wanted to go to the gym early, but, as I couldn't get there early, took my gym bag to school and drove there after school. Now my gym membership is off peak, so that means I have to get to the gym before 4pm on weekdays and after 2pm at weekends. That's usually ok, but not today as I left sch... Once I got up, the intentions started to wane. Once I had prepared my daughter's lunch, drunk my herbal tea, made juice and taken my vitamins, did I really feel like exercising at 7:30 am?? Honestly ? No! Did I exercise at 7:30? Yes indeed, because I knew that if I started to put off the moment, it would be pushed away all day. So, 30 minutes later, I had done my salsa workout and felt good, because I got through it more easily and because I had don... I couldn't face exercising as I was feeling stressed at the prospect of driving my car with no dashboard instruments showing. Then, as we were leaving, I found that the battery was flat, due to the other problem with the car. Well, we jump started the car and set off. An hour and 45 minutes later, we got to the company that specialises in these matters, near Portsmouth. We got sent off to have a coffee for a while. The car was fixed in less than an hou... I decided to walk more all day, avoiding standing still whenever possible, eg. Walking when I was cleaning polish off my fingernails - it worked, as I did 11500 steps on my Fitbit today.
I also cleaned up 2 copper pots to be hung over the fireplace, as well as dusting the large pieces of furniture downstairs.
We went out to look for a large shade for a standard lamp; the first time we ame back with a tablecloth and napkins, the ... Usually, when I get up to exercise, I put on the kettle and make myself a fruit tea to sip as I work out. This morning I boiled the water, then poured, then BANG, boiling water everywhere and a mug broken cleanly in two. So, my workout was delayed while I cleared up. Luckily, I didn't get scalded, as it mostly went on the counter and also, I was still wearing my thick dressing gown.

<img src="http://photosaws.sparkpeople.com/guid/e548f1ec-2ab0-45ac-af62... I walked to the local shop for bread, a croissant for Laurie and Clair's for tonight's dessert. Then I exercised for 30 minutes to one of my salsa exercise DVDs. Laurie cooked breakfast while I showered, then I made the fruit juice - pear, pineapple and melon.

After breakfast we drove into Carcassonne for the weekly 'vide grenier' or car boot sale. Laurie wanted to sleep in, so I got up ready to do some cardio. As I don't have easy access to a gym here, I have brought copies of my favourite salsa exercise DVDs to keep and use here.today was a gentle session; tomorrow I'll do a longer one.

After a leisurely breakfast, we decided to trawl a few 'toro antes' or secondhand shops we like. We bought a table lamp and a jug. We also bought a curtain to go across a door where there is a draught.
<... Sat, 23 Jan 2016 16:45:11 EST 1st day back in France http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6076432 Ok, so we arrived last night, too late to shop. Luckily, we had planned ahead. There was a frozen dish of veal blanquette and some zucchini I'm our last visit in December. We've had the house in Lavalette in the Aude, in the south of France for 18 months now and come over here every month for at least a week. During our last visit, we had our new kitchen installed.

Today, our builders arrived to start tiling the patio. They got quite a lot done, until it started to rain.
<BR... Fri, 22 Jan 2016 16:39:17 EST Workout no.3 and away for a week from tomorrow http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6074721 So, off we went, third day in a row. I managed everything, although my 5 minute warm-up on the cross trainer was 3 minutes, 30 seconds to get my breath back, then 2 more minutes. The rest went swimmingly for me. Hubby not feeling too good today so I told him to take it easy. He's had some health worries recently, not easy for someone who used to be at the peak of fitness, but wants to get fit again, so is going to the gym too and watching his food intake too.
We'll both get there.
... Wed, 20 Jan 2016 17:11:31 EST Workout no.2 - yay! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6073856 Second gym workout completed this morning.

Still not a fan of the cross trainer, but decided to persevere. I'm supposed to do 6-8 minutes, but I managed 5, in one minute segments. I shall keep going until I can do 5 straight off, then I'll add in 1 minute every few days until I get there, to the 8.

I enjoy the rowing machine and also the strength exercises, but I can't say I particularly like the Power Plate, but again, I'll keep on with it until I either get used to it... Well, I took my husband to the gym too, but he decided to start off his static cycling, taking things a bit easier.

I managed the whole workout, as planned by the PT. The only bit I wasn't keen on, was the cross-trainer; maybe that will come with time... The rowing machine and everything else was fine; I'm e petting to be sore tomorrow or the next day. We'll go to the gym the ne t 2-3 days and then it's off to France for a week, so... We had lots in common and, as well as doing most of my induction, Sandra easily persuaded me to take part in her Synergy class. It was mainly on the TRX and actually ok. I also did a bit on a rowing machine and SURVIVED!!

Tomorrow, the induction will be complete and I will be presented with a personal training programme, which will be updated as I lose weight and get fitter. There is also a ... Sat, 16 Jan 2016 16:27:15 EST My gym induction, or so I thought... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6070388 So..... I got to the gym, put my bag in a locker, then went up to the gym room to meet the PT, at 8:30am.

8:40, no PT!!!

I went down to the reception to ask where he was. A few minutes later, the general manager came down and asked to wait while he investigated. When he came back, he told me the PT wasn't in and said he would get the lead coach to call me with a new appointment and compensation.

At lunchtime, the coach called. I go back anew tomorrow and get a... Fri, 15 Jan 2016 17:15:27 EST Today I taught cookery, tomorrow it's my gym induction ! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6069542 So today I taught cookery.
1. Talking about French cheeses. The kids knew little about cheese, let alone French ones.
2. 12-13 year olds (remember they're special needs), cooking scrambled eggs on toast.
Best moment - 'it's burning Miss', but not moving a muscle to either move the pan or turn off the heat!!
3. Writing up a cookery session from yesterday.
4. Tasting a selection of French cheeses. Despite their reluctance, most of them tried most of the cheeses offered ... Thu, 14 Jan 2016 16:58:44 EST Finally, I joined a gym today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6068676 This morning we went to the gym. Following a comprehensive tour and talk, I signed up for 12 months. It's a great gym and I now have the time to make proper use of it.
Lots of Aquafit classes and free PT sessions every 4-6 weeks to set and update an exercise programme.
On Friday morning, I have my gym induction - so exciting! Wed, 13 Jan 2016 17:16:42 EST Healthy Lunch Date with my DH http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6067858 My husband and I have regular 'dates'.
We aren't exactly in our twenties.
We also aren't in our dotage, just yet!
We've been married nearly three years very happily.
We have seen so many people trudge through life, with regret for the things they haven't done.
That won't be us!!
We want to enjoy our dreams while we're still fit and healthy to do so...
And if we do so, well, we'll just think of some more.....
Life passes by so quickly and it's so easy to... Tue, 12 Jan 2016 18:09:32 EST A walk in the park.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6066784 That was yesterday. When I teach, I rarely have the time or energy to go walking and also, we've had so much rain lately.
Yesterday morning - the sun shone!
So, I dragged my husband to the local park, down our road, to feed the ducks and other wildfowl and get some fresh air. The local boating club were also out on the water and we saw a couple of boats capsize.

It was a bit like SP:
* lots of people travelling in different directions, but with the same goal
* ... Mon, 11 Jan 2016 14:01:09 EST You can't just dream forever.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6064235 So, 2016 has started with me working 3 days this week. I'm now the top of the list when a teacher calls in sick or when they have planned absences. I prefer it this way. I don't want to have a permanent position, however it's good to be in demand and be able to decide if and when to work.
This week has been fairly stressful as my husband had some medical test results to collect today.
GOOD NEWS - all clear for the big C, however we will have to keep aware as there is a probability o... Fri, 8 Jan 2016 16:57:18 EST Rain, rain, go away! Still pedalled!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6063308 So today I taught IT at the special school I do regular supply teaching at. In fact, it's now the only school I go to. I do a couple of days a week, at most 3, unless I haven't been there for a week or 2, in which case I have agreed to sometimes do more to help out. They like me to go there for the consistency that kids, particularly those with special educational needs really need. They know me and I know them so I can be called upon to teach a variety of subjects to ages ranging from about ... Thu, 7 Jan 2016 16:55:15 EST A great day, Christmas tree undressed, walked in the park, no rain! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6062339 So, being 6th January, I undressed our tree and took down cards, recycling them as gift tags, did some ironing and static cycling, then went for a walk in the park with my neighbour as we caught up with news and put the world to rights, feeding ducks, geese, swans and a heron, but not those pesky pigeons!
Dinner was yummy - veal in a garlic and lemon sauce, stir-fried mushrooms and leeks, and basmati rice, followed by a Muller Corner raspberry and blackberry yoghurt.
I even got my ...
