Now I'm at FIL's for a week and there is a treadmill and I have brought a resistance band, so I use the treadmill and have modified my workout to fit in with my environment.

Who'd a thunk that I would be in my 50's and actually actively pursuing ways to exercise??

I've even been considering, very tentatively,... Wed, 7 Dec 2016 14:27:10 EST Less fat = less fat! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6275372 So I really should be an eating expert. After all, I've been on this earth for over 55 years and have spent many years losing those same pounds, over, and over, and over again. Yes, I'm a true recycling champion.
In 1985, the year before my first wedding, I took the plunge, not for the first time, but certainly the first time, with WW. I lost 54 pounds to get to goal (150 pounds at age 24). I then lost a further 10 pounds or so by the wedding. I ate well, exercised and tracked my food.... Sabina seems happy enough in the knowledge that there are still educational options open to her this year, and we had a lovely week of quality time when she was home from school, so all good.

Yesterday, I woke up still tired after my trip, so decided on an extra hour of sleep, before my hair appointment at 9am. Luckily, the salon is only a 2 minute walk from home, so I had a cuppa, caught up with emails and off I went. I had booked originally... First of all, it was, I hate you, a standing joke because I am able to spend so much time in the South of France, but then we got on to discussing my next gym review date, which will be at the beginning of December. She said that about me because she knows that she can prepare a new program for me before we meet up, as , so far, i have been... Thu, 10 Nov 2016 17:43:05 EST 2 long days... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6264440 So yesterday morning, we got up at 4am and drove to the airport. The night before, my 16 year old daughter, Sabina rang and said she was going to stay with my sister, because she wasn't happy at school and wanted to be further away from it than just across the road, for a few days; I decided to come home from France and be mum for a few days, as even worldly wise teens sometimes need their mums.... so I caught the 7:15am flight and got back here 4 hours later, 10:15 local time.
It's be... Wed, 9 Nov 2016 16:53:25 EST Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6263819 The weekend ended thus, as we're putting back turning on the central heating as utility bills are horrendously high in France and a real fire is just cosier and more romantic.
We had a largish breakfast on Sunday, filling rather than stupidly calorific, so in these occasions we usually skip lunch, but had chestnuts roasted on our open fire a while before dinner. Dinner was a paella cooked by himself, also filling, but kept me within my calorie range.

The fire looked so pretty,... Tasty food, and I was careful not to go crazy with amounts, preparing well by having a light breakfast and lunch, ordering jasmine tea to help fill me up calorie-free.

But, I really noticed the MSG this morning at 7 am. I was parched and had a stomach ache, not conducive to exercising. So, I lay there for another half hour,... Fri, 4 Nov 2016 16:35:02 EST Half-term in Lavalette with my daughter visiting for the week - time for autumnal walks http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6260956 During the week, I do a 65 minute workout every day, so at weekends I try to drag the family out for walks. Last Saturday, my husband came willingly. Since we have had the house here the last 2 years, we drive to a lot of places, and he talks of cycling, but we do little to explore locally. We are close to the Canal du Midi so, on Saturday afternoon, we drove over to Caux et Sauzens and parked by a bridge.

<img src="http://photosaws.sparkpeople.com/guid/fb5b1aca-769f-4279-b82a-a9... It was written by the CEO of Veuve Clicqot, a French woman, living mainly in New York.

I enjoyed the book again, because it reaffirmed what I already knew - that you can eat anything and everything and NOT get fat; it's a matter of portion control and attitude. (And my garden pics at last) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6183953 Tuesday we got to the airport, to be met by a 'cancelled' message on the departures screen for our flight. The French air traffic controllers were striking, so probably safer NOT to fly. So back to the house went, in another hire car , for an extra 2 days. On the way to the house, we stopped off to shop as we had frozen or thrown away remaining food. Our other option, paid for by Easyjet, was. 2 nights in a hotel in Toulouse, with meals thrown in. Antirrhinums needed planting, along with 2 miniature roses, a white lavender and a flat leaf parsley. Also, the large rosebud needed weeding badly. All done! I love my garden no could spend all day, every day, weeding, digging, planting and generally pottering about. Yesterday I planted out the edible flower seedlings. We've been together over a year now. I adopted you as a replacement for ,'the one that got away!' I've religiously worn you everyday, never putting you through the washing machine, endeavouring to do my best, challenging friends, even persuading my DH to adopt your cousin Fitbit HR to keep you company.

And then it happened! Last week, I had to have major surgery, so, although you came with me to hospital, I left you in my handbag as I wasn't walking anywhere. Day ... Mon, 21 Mar 2016 15:35:12 EST Post-hysterectomy, determined to avoid iron tablets http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6123664 On Friday, the day I was due to be discharged, my haemaglobin levels were checked. It was decided to prescribe iron tablets, as I seem to be anaemic, but no doctor followed up to discuss how anaemic. Now, I've been prescribed iron tablets before and I don't intend to take them again. The thing is, they constipate me, so I've made my mind up to tackle this head on, with nutrition. I have started to track iron on my food tracker and researched what foods are high in iron. Luckily, I like them,... Then, part way through the afternoon, the Drs decided to test my haemaglobin levels; they were low, so iron tablets are the plan. Iron tablets constipated me, so I will try the natural way to add iron to my diet. I'm pretty good at eating to a target, whether it be fibre or other nutrients. The only problem was, as they were waiting for my blood results to come back, so they didn't process my other meds. As I'm on Tramadol, which is a controlled dru... It helped with the pain and after I finished that blog, I drifted off into deep slumber. And how I needed that!

I must have slept for eight hours solidly, with only a couple of brief interludes, when my closest bed neighbour was being checked over by nurses and insisted on sharing her experience with the whole ward at high decibel levels, however she is only to be forgiven, as she is terminally ill... I parked right away from the entrance and made my way in. After this month, I will have 2 months off, recuperating after my hysterectomy in early March, so I want to be fit for surgery and recovery. As I was getting dressed for gym, I mislaid my Fitbit so had to go without it. My husband found it before I got back, luckily, but I was irritated - it's the same colour as the carpet!!

Lots of cuddles with the newest step-granddaughter, as well as being chief assistant to my husband. This started out as a new basin and vanity unit - f... Mon, 8 Feb 2016 16:57:02 EST Sunday morning, the rain has stopped and the sun is shining! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6089782 Yesterday was wet and miserable for the most part. We did our weekly food shop and came out in blustery winds. In the afternoon we went to visit a tenant, who is recovering incredibly from a bleed on the brain, at 81. We didn't think he was going to make it, but this week he came home from brain injury rehab for a visit with his OT and Physio, making it upstairs on his own. Wow!

While we were out, I set dinner cooking in the Slowcooker; sweet potato, onion, red pepper, chickpeas, s... Sun, 7 Feb 2016 04:26:37 EST Now that was the way to spend a Friday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6088721 My day began with my third visit to the gym this week, all good. Then I came home, put my face on and met my sister for coffee; we keep our meetings occasional even though we only live a mile apart and that works!

After that, the best part of today...

My 3 BFFs came over for lunch and a leisurely dip in the hot tub. Our parents were friends and we grew up together. Zosia is 2 years older than me and we were best friends at secondary school, Dani is 12 weeks older then me... Fri, 5 Feb 2016 17:14:42 EST Work, then gym, woo hoo! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6087860 I managed to get away from school earlier today and still got to the gym just after 4pm, but the receptionist let me in. If it happens too often, I'll have to upgrade my membership from off peak, but hopefully I won't need to, as generally I'll go to the gym in the morning on the days I'm not teaching.

School was fun, getting the younger children making Chinese paper lanterns amongst other things.

Since the new year I've been tracking diligently and coming up against my ... Thu, 4 Feb 2016 16:58:32 EST Called in to teach today, then went to the gym... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6086966 I had planned to start on a set of curtains today, but I had a phone call to go in to teach mainly English. I also taught a cookery lesson and supported a trainee teacher in a science lesson. I had also wanted to go to the gym early, but, as I couldn't get there early, took my gym bag to school and drove there after school. Now my gym membership is off peak, so that means I have to get to the gym before 4pm on weekdays and after 2pm at weekends. That's usually ok, but not today as I left sch... Wed, 3 Feb 2016 16:43:21 EST Early exercise, crocheting with scraps, cuddling a month old baby, more great exam results! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6086052 This morning I got up with good intentions. Once I got up, the intentions started to wane. Once I had prepared my daughter's lunch, drunk my herbal tea, made juice and taken my vitamins, did I really feel like exercising at 7:30 am?? Honestly ? No! Did I exercise at 7:30? Yes indeed, because I knew that if I started to put off the moment, it would be pushed away all day. So, 30 minutes later, I had done my salsa workout and felt good, because I got through it more easily and because I had don... Tue, 2 Feb 2016 16:58:19 EST i'm an extremely proud mummy!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6085062 The morning started slowly, very slowly. I couldn't face exercising as I was feeling stressed at the prospect of driving my car with no dashboard instruments showing. Then, as we were leaving, I found that the battery was flat, due to the other problem with the car. Well, we jump started the car and set off. An hour and 45 minutes later, we got to the company that specialises in these matters, near Portsmouth. We got sent off to have a coffee for a while. The car was fixed in less than an hou... Mon, 1 Feb 2016 16:45:52 EST Back home now for a few weeks, with an intro to my French village http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6082554 Got back last night, after a week away. We've had the house in France for 18 months now and as the time moves on, we are slowly getting it as we'd like it. The downstairs us now done, the kitchen being the last part to be done. Now fir upstairs...

Every morning I walk to the corner to get fresh bread; I'm getting very good at chatting about the weather in French lol.
Here are some pics of my walk home, the slightly longer way back.

<img src="http://photosaws.sparkp...
