PLUGINALONG's SparkPeople Blog PLUGINALONG's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community FitBit synced Finally got a chance to sync my fitbit. I got 19,000 steps in on Thursday, the day of our hike. I didn't do as well Friday but did manage to get my 10,000 in on Saturday and Sunday. So my average is still over 10,000 steps daily. Did get back to work this morning but it wasn't as piled up as I thought it might be. Next vacation is July 9th, 10th and 11th for my granddaughter's birthday celebration. I think I will take lots of time off this year as I might retire next year and I have time I ne... Mon, 16 Jun 2014 14:48:05 EST Back home We're back from our vacation and feeling great. Got in a hike up and down the mountain at Grayson Highlands near Mt Rogers, Va. Saw the ponies that run up there with no fences. They sure are pretty with little colts this time of year. Walked on the rocks as part of the hike to the summit. Got in 19,000 steps that day. It did rain on us but we didn't get excited as we have been caught out hiking in the rain more than once, several times in fact. The Blue Ridge Parkway was very pretty. We saw t... Sun, 15 Jun 2014 13:50:54 EST Going out of town Going to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway to it's end in Virginia so I won't be near a computer so I can't Spark. Will pick up where I leave off. Take care and have a good weekend. I know it's early to say that but I would rather wish you guys a good weekend than not do it. Wed, 11 Jun 2014 14:54:42 EST Computer on blink My computer has been on the blink for a few days so just now getting to Spark. Hope all of you had a good weekend and hope for you an even better week. Things are moving right along here at work and the weather is hot. We had a little shower of rain this morning but need more as it's really dry right now. Hope you Sparkers are staying cool, calm and collected. Have a good day. Tue, 10 Jun 2014 10:39:09 EST Walk was great I have spear headed a little walking club here at work. There are about 6 girls in the group now and it varies on what number of us walk. We walk every Mon. and Wed. at 9 am while it is still cool. There were only 3 of us this morning but we got in a good walk, fast and uphill. We have good topics to discuss and it was a good time. Also, one of the guys is doing a crossfit class on Tues. and Thurs at noon so I am participating in that. It's basically muscle building exercises and I love it to... Wed, 4 Jun 2014 10:29:33 EST Success is good What a good feeling it is to be successful, even a bit. The little things add up so even a .2, .4, .6 lost on the scale keeps me going. That's getting one closer to goal, slow but steady wins the race. Tue, 3 Jun 2014 10:14:30 EST Been counting I did miss Sparking Sat and Sun but you know how the weekend is. It gets busy and we put off doing something. Mon, 2 Jun 2014 14:30:22 EST I will Spark I will Spark, I will Spark, I will Spark. If only a few minutes a day, not even doing all that I can do on Spark, I will do some. Have any of you got a FitBit. I just started wearing one a couple of weeks ago and it is a good motivator. You see the steps you have taken and take gives you the incentive to watch your food too. Fri, 30 May 2014 15:53:25 EST Hello to you Hello to you Sparkers. Hope the last month or so that I have been absent from Spark have been good ones for you. I have missed Sparking and hopefully work won't get in the way of my doing that. Losing a little bit after losing in 2012 but 2013 wasn't a good year so I gained most of it back. But this is another time and year so on and upward. Take care and good luck on your journey. Thu, 29 May 2014 09:56:07 EST Asking for prayer Going through something difficult right now, so say a little prayer for me sometime today. Hope all of you Sparkers are doing fine and keeping on keeping on today. Thanks for being there. Sun, 27 Apr 2014 07:25:43 EST Do it all the time I will strive to do my healthy habits like I did year before last. Last year was a wash out. 2012 was the best year for me in a while. I exercised, ate healthy and feel at peace with what I was doing to make myself a better ME. So forget 2013. Put it behind me and focus on the rest of 2014. 8 1/2 months to go before starting a New Year. By then I will be a new me. The 10's will fit looser, the measurements will be down some and the mood will be much improved. I walked at work on the treadmill... Fri, 18 Apr 2014 13:26:10 EST Retiring??!! Not sure. If the rest of the time I have here reflects how this morning was a year down the road, then I am out of here. Otherwise, I will stay and have a good, healthy, carefree (LOL) time of it. Meanwhile, I will do my best. Hang in there. Mon, 7 Apr 2014 15:59:44 EST Cleanse Did a cleanse yesterday afternoon and it really helped with the bloating I had going on for a couple of days. Got to up the fiber. I think I will take a nice long bath in Epsom Salts and Baking Soda tonight. That cleanes the skin and makes it soft and smooth. I add lotion afterwards and boy that it feel good. I don't know if I told you all last week, but I had a massage, did some exercising and boy did I feel good. Pampering yourself is the name of the game, agree?? Wed, 2 Apr 2014 14:45:41 EST A hint of Spring 77 degrees today. But back down in the high 50's by the weekend. So I know there are a few more chilly days left before the warm sets in for earnest. Got outside and walked, it was great to be back outside. Really walked fast, uphill and sweated. So got a lot of extra calories but I am going to not eat the extra's. Will mean a few more ounces lost. Hang in there Sparkers. How' the weather your way? Tue, 1 Apr 2014 16:07:44 EST Another good out to eat day Another day out to eat with the birthday girls. Didn't do really well though. I indulged just a bit but after a week of really doing good, I needed a little sweets. But tomorrow is another day and one day of eating things not really good for me won't break me. Hope all of you had a great Saturday. Hang in there and be sure to review your goals to keep you going. Sat, 29 Mar 2014 17:49:53 EST Putting the oldie but goodie in the back We went out for a co-workers birthday today and I got stuck in the back seat, 3rd row, of the vehicle that is. But not to worry. I am the shortest and the oldest but best of all I am in the best shape of all of the other girls. No kidding. I walk, lift weights, bike, elliptical, hike (up and down the mountains) and eat healthy. It sure feels good to brag. I was going to take my new little Honda Civic but all of us wouldn't have fit in it so we took another Expedition. Life is good. Wed, 19 Mar 2014 15:29:54 EST Do I dare What do you want to dare to do? I want to dare to start doing my thing that makes me the happiest at this time of life. I have been frugal for the last 21 years and do I dare start spending some of the retirement money I have faithfully put away for some of the things on my bucket list. To be honest there is not much on my bucket list except for expensive things that would really take a bite out of the budget. Like, going to Australia, getting my little red corvette, going to Hawaii, etc. Are... Thu, 13 Mar 2014 19:03:40 EST I will spend time with those I love Instead of a lonely, stay by myself weekend, I am going to spend it with family. I will visit my daughter, grandson and granddaughter. The family games we will play are really fun and sparks a lot of joking and interaction. I kid the kids about I will win, I will sneak and move my game piece more than the dice says I should. I will move it back, of course and the granddaughter will make a big deal out of all that. I do stress fair play though and explain to her it's all in fun and as along as... Fri, 7 Mar 2014 15:19:31 EST Suggestions on "getting out there" again. I have been married and divorced with him being deceased now. I was in a relationship that just ended and even at 60 years of age, it really really hurts and I am having a very difficult time getting over him. I need suggestions on how a 60 year old lady makes new male friends. Just someone to do things with would work as I am not ready for a tiresome relationship. If it develops farther that will come in time and I'm in no rush. Thanks for your suggestions. Sun, 2 Mar 2014 18:04:00 EST Strike 3, your out, phooey It takes more than 3 strikes to be out in this healthy journey. Don't count yourself out just because you mess up. It is a learning experience just like other aspects of life. I can sit here and really come up with all kinds of sayings etc in relation to the journey to a healthy lifestyle. So one thing to remember is never give up. Fri, 28 Feb 2014 14:24:11 EST Going it alone My efforts to get an exercise and healthy eating buddy is about to go by the wayside. I do have a buddy who will walk on occasion with me but I need one that will be consistent and go for at least 3 days of fast walking. I can do strength training by myself but prefer to walk or bike or jog with a buddy. But I have about made up my mind that my co-workers don't want to commit to an exercise program or make the effort to fix healthy food. So, i do other things by myself so I can do this solo t... Thu, 20 Feb 2014 14:15:51 EST Thanks Spark Friends I can talk about it now as it has resolved itself. I had to go for an additional mammogram this morning as they had found a spot on my right breast. I did a lot of praying and the spot has disappeared when they took the pictures this morning! I am giving God the praise and glory. It doesn't matter what it was, it was resolved and it is a sign to me that God is working still even though with all that is going on today, people still doubt. Thanks again for all the encouraging words and prayers... Tue, 18 Feb 2014 11:29:07 EST I must think it through I have a difficult decision to make in the next few weeks. It is so overwhelming to me I can't really put it into words just yet. I know it will be painful but I have survived pain before. I am not sure what is worst, physical pain or mental pain. So, if my fellow Sparkers will say some prayers for me to help me get through this, I would really appreciate it. Hopefully I can talk about it in a few days. Have a great night. Sun, 16 Feb 2014 18:00:50 EST Setting goals Just got finished with a worksheet on what goals you have planned for this year. Not resolutions but rather cocrete goals that you want to do. I did of course list exercise and eating healthy. But I also set a short term goal for improving the home, washing down the walls with pledge (pine board paneling, very pretty) and washing out all the cabinets. I included finding a new friend to go bowling with and rekindling an old friendship. If I concentrate on this four that will make me (I feel) a... Tue, 11 Feb 2014 11:31:42 EST I really am tired Got up early so I could go to the pantry at church. I am pretty tired right now but all is done and I am going out to eat tonight so that's a good thing. I did double duty with housework today as I did my house and a friend's. Just washed down the bathroom and vacuumed their house but it was extra work I wasn't used to doing. I will be ready for bed tonight. Take care and have a good night. Sat, 8 Feb 2014 16:59:07 EST Mammogram Went for my yearly mammogram this morning. Will have to wait about a week for the results.
I did better with the calories and exercise yesterday. But I still must work on eating a little less and exercising a bit more. So calories will be around 1200 to 1300 and exercise will increase to 200 calories or more like 45 minutes instead of 30. I am 1 day down and 89 to go. When you break it down to days, hopefully that looks better than 4 months. Oh well, numbers are numbers so I don't guess... Fri, 7 Feb 2014 09:31:33 EST Rude awakenings What rude awakenings I get. Stepped on the doctors scales this morning and I really was surpised by the weight I had gained last year but I must get back to it. I've hee hawed around long enough. Suffice it to say briefly, May 7th will be my birthday and a goal will be met. Take care. Thu, 6 Feb 2014 15:22:09 EST I will be available I am making myself available at work to help other team members with things they have to do since I am about caught up from a year and 2 months of working overtime. I have to be careful and not get too far behind. But if I do, I can always do a little more overtime and get caught back up. A team is a team and I'm hoping all members of mine will realize that. Teamwork is a great thing when everyone does what is necessary to keep it running smoothly. Have a geat Sparking Day. Tue, 4 Feb 2014 12:35:31 EST Thanks for the insight I would like to thank my fellow Sparkers who responded to my blog yesterday about who should call who when there has been and argument and feelings are hurt. I picked up the phone and called and felt better for it. The resulting peace of mind was refreshing after the negative thoughts I had had concerning that person. So if we can forgive that is a sure sign we are making the extra efforts to keep a friendship. Thanks again. Mon, 3 Feb 2014 09:59:14 EST Don't give in Got in a fuss with a very important person in my life. Do I call or wait for them to Call? I am stubborn and want to prove I can wait it out and not give in. Will report later on you calls who. I know, childish. But maybe worthwhile in the long run. Sun, 2 Feb 2014 17:15:08 EST Don't give in Got in a fuss with a very important person in my life. Do I call or wait for them to Call? I am stubborn and want to prove I can wait it out and not give in. Will report later on you calls who. I know, childish. But may worthwhile in the long run. Sun, 2 Feb 2014 17:15:08 EST Blogging late I usually don't wait to blog this late in the day, but time go away. Just watched a movie about never ending love and even tho it is hard to believe, that does happen. In this divorce center world, it is a rare thing. We need to get back to those days when the DH or the loving wife was put first in ones life. I'm old fashioned so it wasn't easy facing my own divorce back in the 80's. But I have moved on and things did get better. So hang in there and strive to keep love alive. I don't know ... Sat, 1 Feb 2014 18:08:01 EST Tired but satisfied Did a little more exercise, as I have planned, today. I will have to work hard to get back in the shape I was a year ago. But the tired feeling has really left me actually feeling better. The satisfied feeling is worth the 30 minutes I spent walking on the treadmill. Did get the incline up to 6 and the speed up to 3.0 today. That was a piece of cake for me a year ago as I was more like 3.5 to 4 (slow jog). I also use to do 6 to 15 on incline too at 2.8. Reminiscing will help me look back and ... Thu, 30 Jan 2014 14:50:39 EST I will survive My list of what I expect to conquer or survive with my idea of what I must do to do that:
Getting through the winter with a determination to not gain any more weight. Eat healthy and exercise.
Get over the fact I have gained some of my weight back. Start over and forgive myself for gaining the weight back.
Realize the overtime is over. Get over making extra money which I just spent on frivilous things and get back on a budget with my usual salary.
LOL, keep the electric b... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 11:15:27 EST Waiting on Spring I'm just waiting on Spring. Enough of winter! How about you? Tue, 28 Jan 2014 10:53:01 EST Just dropping in Very busy day today what with the DH having his colonoscopy. Every things fine and he won't be due for another one for 10 years. He is really happy about that. Will go for now, Keep Sparking. Thu, 23 Jan 2014 15:09:12 EST Encouraging words No matter what I get to blog about, you Sparkers always have an encourging word, cormment or suggestion to keep me going. It's great to log in to Spark and see all the positive things that are going on. I do appreciate Spark and hope to continue to Spark for a long time. Have a good day. Wed, 22 Jan 2014 10:42:35 EST Fri, Sat and Sun, Mon. no blog 3 days without a blog and I must not beat myself up over it. The weekend and MLK was very busy for me as the grand was over for a visit, friends and family was over and time just got away. I am blogging now, though, even if it's brief. Just to say hello and hope all is going well. Stay strong and keep the faith. Tue, 21 Jan 2014 12:20:52 EST Egg for the brain A co-worker told me recently that egg is good for the brain. It improves the memory and stalls brain disease such as loss of memory. I am going to go buy 20 chickens and gather the eggs.LOL Thu, 16 Jan 2014 12:15:59 EST So far so good Did really well on my exercise, food and water yesterday. I have do really good today but had a handfull of walnuts so it put me over my fats but I still have a few calories for dinner. Did a 12 minute lower body blast and a low impact cardio video so I got my exercise in. Water has been about 6 cups so I still need a couple of them. Work is going well with me just being about a month behind. Will we ever get caught up, I doubt it. Wishing you a happy evening. Wed, 15 Jan 2014 15:30:37 EST Concentrating on food and water and exercise Right now I am only concentrating on three things. Food, water and exercise. Other things will come in time but these three seem to be the three most important ones for me. The are the major things that help with weight loss. So focusing on food-eat healthy, wholesome, unprocessed foods. Focusing on exercise-start with small amounts and increase. Focusing on water-go for 3 glasses, increasing graually this week until 8 glasses is reached, hopefully by the end of the week. Happy Sparking. Mon, 13 Jan 2014 12:59:08 EST Feelin' good Do I feel great! Just got back to my desk after a 40 minute walking workout. Did the strength and internal walking programs back to back so I did crank it up. So, it's just working out that I am blogging every other day. I know I said every day but I will work for that. Baby steps is the way to go. I did realize at my above workout that I had really gotten out of shape is the last 3 months. Time flew by and before I knew it, January is here and I am not in the greatest of shape. But it's a ne... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 14:54:59 EST Skipped yesterday Didn't blog yesterday but will today. How are you doing, Sparkers. Things are puttering right along here in plugville. I have stepped up the pace a bit with exercise, doing 40 to 45 minutes or so instead of the 20-30 minutes I had been doing. So I understand I can eat a little more. It's been like "0" here in Western North Carolina which is way below our average for this time of year. We did get some snow and it's going to warm up to 41 so the remaining snow will be gone by the time I get out... Wed, 8 Jan 2014 12:31:26 EST Any one else having trouble? I have been having trouble with both the nutrition tracker and the fitness tracker. The nutrition tracker won't let me search and the fitness tracker won't let me see my strenght training exercises. ??? Mon, 6 Jan 2014 14:58:54 EST I was wrong I am upset at a mistake I made yesterday. Won't go into detail but will try to learn from my mistake. Will try to not dwell on it as it is gone and my solution wasn't the right one but must forgive myself and go on. Sun, 5 Jan 2014 08:23:14 EST Woe, or Whoa is me I say "Whoa" to the things that are causing me to overeat, not exercise, revert back to bad habits, etc. It's January 3rd, 3 days into the New Year. No New Years resolutions from me, just a renewed committment to do something about the unhealthy habits I let happen the later part of 2013. Now is the time for action, not 2 days, 1 months or any other time. The present is now, so get over it. Time passes fast so we have to be fast to get the things done that will make us a better person. Keep S... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 12:11:10 EST A really, really good look Looked in the mirror this morning and really paid attention to what I was looking at. Some parts hadn't increased, but my trouble spots are back. I really feel quite bad about gaining some of this weight back. But it's a new year and time to try again. 2014 is off to a good start, so I am going with the fact that we do mess up but we can turn it around. Hope you have a good day. Keep Sparking. Thu, 2 Jan 2014 07:07:58 EST Things I did today that I hope I can continue for this new year Got up early, ate a good breakfast, cleaned house really good, worked on "work" from work, gassed up the car, made WW soup in the crockpot, went to the exercise room and did the elliptical, walked, biked, had my fruit, drank more water than usual, and all in all had a good day. The evening meal for the DH is hog jowels, blackeyed peas and mustard greens along with fresh corn bread. I'm having my WW soup with a few crackers, a cup of skim milk and a WW Giant chocolate bar ice cream. That's a r... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 16:40:21 EST Just 4 things for now I am going to log in, spin the wheel, record food and exercise and blog for a few weeks here on Spark. Since I have limited time, I think these few things will be the most beneficial to me for a while. As time permits, I will add other activities and become more involved. So take care and hopefully I can comment on blogs in the future. Tue, 31 Dec 2013 14:44:25 EST Talking to the girls The 8 year old granddaughter and the 12 year old cousin is really walking the walk and talking the talk. I mean playing with the gifts they got for Christmas. The electronic took center stage, believe it or not, the coloring book and crayons are running second. So the toys we grew up with are still in the race. I can color with them but my knowledge of the electronics leave something to be desired. But I can work this computer and that's enough for me. And I can do the cell phone, flip phone ... Thu, 26 Dec 2013 09:40:05 EST
