PKBOO3's SparkPeople Blog PKBOO3's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Gardening and Photography Wow! It's already been another week since I've blogged. I'm slipping. But I'm still tracking my food and some of my exercise. My eating habits are slipping too. I've gained 4 1/2 lbs over my maintenance weight. I believe since I'm spending more time at home, I eat more sweets just by walking in the kitchen. Today, I did better though by eating lunch at home and drinking water for lunch and dinner. It's a start!

We had a tornado watch one night last week, but I can't remembe... Tue, 15 Apr 2014 20:59:21 EST Last Week and a Half - In Condensed Format It's been a while since I've written, so...Over the last week & a half here's what I've been up to.

Good food: Salmon - hominy - canned red potatoes - Chicken Tortilla Soup (I guess that's good) - Denise Austin Chinese Food meal with lots of veggies, Sesame Oil, Pork Tenderloin, Batista Rice...It turned out good. Danny liked it too. But it took an hour and a half to fix. And I made a mess while making it. I wish I was better at working out a system when I get in the kitchen.... Mon, 7 Apr 2014 21:41:00 EST Funeral, Bunco, Chinese Food Recipe, My Website, Baby Shower, Garven Gardens Monday - My workout was with the hula hoop. Then we had to go to a funeral of the mother of a friend of ours. Then Monday evening I was asked to sub for a Bunco group, so I headed over there and had a fun evening with the ladies. I hadn't played in a couple of years, so I had to be reminded on how to play. Good fun, good food; didn't win anything but didn't matter. I still had fun.

Tuesday - I finished up going through my photos that I wanted to get prints of. I think I ord... Thu, 27 Mar 2014 22:03:53 EST A Bit of a Hectic Sunday Afternoon, But Still a Good Day Saturday I didn't even brush my teeth until 4:00. It was so late by time I got my shower and washed my hair that I decided not to put any makeup on and I just dressed in my lounge wear for the rest of the evening. Since we went out Friday night, we decided to stay home Saturday. Danny had burned a bunch of brush at our land and at the house, so he was really tired by the evening. So he just grilled hotlinks and we had that with pork n beans & chips for dinner. My workout was 30 minutes o... Sun, 23 Mar 2014 21:26:08 EST Music and Photography Wednesday my workout was 30 minutes of aerobics. Then I cleaned the oven. I've had that on my "to-do" list for the longest and finally was able to check it off. Then I took a few hours and downloaded several of my favorite songs to my iTunes and then synced to my iPhone and then to my iPod. That way, I have 2 backups. I get coupon codes off my coke cartons and gives me credit for them. I get almost all of my music this way.

My eating wasn't too good Wedn... Fri, 21 Mar 2014 22:10:39 EST Identifying Birds at the Backyard Bird Feeder Goals completed yesterday:
* Had a fruit smoothie for breakfast (healthy and tasted good).
* Belly Dance Workout - 35 minutes.
* Got baby shower invitations ordered. (My friend told me I should have just made my own on the computer. Hmmmm...should have talked to her sooner. Oh well, lesson's learned; and at least they will be really pretty since you get what you pay for.
* Revised my airline reservations and in the process got some flight points credited back to my ... Tue, 18 Mar 2014 21:59:31 EST Dryer Died, Hair Dilemma, In the Mood for Spring (Cleaning) Last week, I think it was Thursday, we went and ordered a new dryer since our old one went kaput. It was in by Saturday, so Danny went back and picked it up and we spent Saturday morning installing it ourselves. We actually did ourselves! I can't believe we successfully installed an appliance on our own. We usually have some sort of problem, or get mad at each other, or some part is missing, or we break something before we're finished. But this time, it went off pretty well witho... Sun, 16 Mar 2014 17:56:18 EST Getting Ready for Baby and Painting Katie's Nails Yesterday, I went to Walmart to look at their baby invitations, but they didn't have enough, so I'll purchase from a website Ashley referred me to.

Today, we had planned on going to the cemetery to put flowers on my parent's grave, but we decided to wait on that until a prettier day. We should have gone yesterday, because it was a beautiful day, but today has reverted back to cold and windy. I'll wait and go on a nicer, more peaceful day. We did go to town though for a jewelry... Wed, 12 Mar 2014 19:39:01 EST Another Lake Photo Shoot, Nursing Home Visit, Invitations OK, let me see, I haven't written since Friday. And it was just a typical day around home of balancing the bank account, and lunch at the Junction. My workout consisted of about 20 minutes on the mini-trampoline.

Saturday, I went out to the lake with Mary for a photo shoot. She spotted 2 eagles! I only saw one of them. We got a few shots of the one up in a tree. We just couldn't get as close as I wanted, but it was a pretty cool thing to see them in our area.

... Mon, 10 Mar 2014 19:29:24 EST Katie's Square Dance, Dental Fiasco and Damaged Ring Tuesday I slowed down a little and just caught up with a few taskers at home. I think we just went out to lunch and the rest of the day was just spent at home.

Wednesday, we went to Katie's Square Dance at her school. It's her 4th and last year for that and she wanted us to come, so we did, and then we got to check her out of school for the rest of the afternoon and took her to DQ and then to the house. She played with Savannah for awhile, which Savannah just loved to the max, a... Thu, 6 Mar 2014 18:06:17 EST Movies, Photo Lesson, Lunch With the Girls Friday Lisa W. and I went to see "Endless Love". It was good. A love story. Then we went to a few places in town - Kohl's, Petsmart, Walgreen's, and then ate a late lunch at TaMolley's. Then we went to her daughter's and picked up her granddaughter for her to spend the rest of the evening with. We enjoyed the day. I've never done much with this girl before. She's my BFF's sister and newly retired like me. We've been talking about getting together and so we did Friday and I enjoyed it... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 15:53:24 EST Nails, Little Sister, New Stuff, Two Doctor's Tuesday, I worked on my nails painting butterfly's on them. I need lots of practice on that. But it was neat and I think I got one or two butterfly's actually looking a little bit like a butterfly.

Then I went and met my sister for lunch. Then we went back to her house for a while. I haven't been over there in a long time, (long story but things are getting so much better now), so enjoyed a nice vis... Thu, 27 Feb 2014 17:48:07 EST Just Plugging Along I exchanged some of my stuff I bought at the Purple Amulet Saturday evening. And then we ate at The Roadhouse. I wanted a hamburger, but I decided to eat a little better and order the Portobello Chicken recipe with Mushrooms and Onions with a side order of corn. Earlier Saturday, my workout was 40 minutes of Belly Dance.

Sunday, I took Savannah for a short walk. I'm trying to teach her to heal. She does pretty good so far, but we're just getting started. She is seeming to be ... Mon, 24 Feb 2014 16:46:23 EST Almost Back on Track I made it to the doctor Wednesday and he said all is well and that my ear was healing perfectly; so I asked him if I was just being a big baby and he patted me on the arm and said, "Big baby". He-He. Well, I just wish they would have prepared me about the pain and bleeding beforehand and I wouldn't have worried so much. They said to expect a minor ear ache. Well, I believe I have a high tolerance for pain and that just didn't feel minor to me. But anyway, better now, woo-hoo! I go back ... Fri, 21 Feb 2014 22:23:21 EST The Week Since and Keeping Katie Wow! It's been a rough week! I thought my ear was getting better, but then Saturday morning, and then Sunday morning, I woke up and my ear was bleeding just as badly as it was at first. And the ear ache has been continual, and not just minor, a bonafide real ear ache. So I stuck it out until Monday, called the doctor's office again and told them. They told me I could use my ear drops (I was afraid to since they said I couldn't get it wet) now and they moved my post op appointment up a we... Tue, 18 Feb 2014 11:45:26 EST Ashley and Me Ashley got a good report today! Yay! The test was negative, which was a good thing, and they said their measurements they did on her last time may have been wrong in the first place. So they (and us) are very excited to get such good news! So she gets to still take it easy, but she doesn't have to go on bed rest. She goes back next week for a re-do on the same test - just to make sure. She will also be in her 3rd trimester next week and will start seeing the doctor every two weeks. <BR... Thu, 13 Feb 2014 20:53:47 EST Our Condition So Far Today, Wednesday is the first day since my surgery, Monday, that I've felt like doing anything at all. I've been resting and sleeping ever since. My ear has been hurting since then, and I've been on pain meds every 4-6 hours. But I took one at 2:30 last night, then another one at 7:30 this morning and so far I haven't needed another one and it's 1:00 right now, so that's the longest I've been able to go without one; and I got out of the house to go to Subway so that made me feel better ev... Wed, 12 Feb 2014 14:25:04 EST Ashley, Goals, Snow, and Surgery Ashley.
Well, Ashley's doctor said she could go back to work next week, but if the tests come back unsatisfactory, which they won't have the results for a week, then she will have to go back on bed rest. Until then, since her work is not really physical, they said she could go back as long as she didn't do much walking, no straining or lifting or sudden movements. We really wanted her to stay home, and we're worried and scared, but I guess we need to trust the doctor. Anyway, so far, ... Fri, 7 Feb 2014 22:37:36 EST My Kids Are On My Mind Today I made a little goals list for the day. It was to do my workout, go to Walmart to get ingredients for a Denise Austin recipe for lunch tomorrow & shopping list, and to mail some Get Well cards. I started on my cards, then ended up cleaning them out and organizing them. That took over an hour to get them organized matching the cards up with the right sized envelope and separating them out. Before I knew it, it was lunch time. So I didn't do my workout. But I did get my cards sent ... Wed, 5 Feb 2014 20:08:55 EST Bed Rest for a Week for the D-I-L Well... my DIL is on one-week bed rest due to pregnancy issues. Please pray for her that everything will be OK. I stayed with her this morning for an hour or so while Cody was gone. He had gotten picked for jury duty the day before, but they released him today due to this emergency. Anyway, so far, she and baby are doing OK. His heartbeat is steady and he's kicking like crazy. She is feeling OK too. I desperately hope and pray they will both be fine and she can carry the baby to full-t... Tue, 4 Feb 2014 20:34:12 EST Savannah, Catch! Savannah catching her ball. Mon, 3 Feb 2014 17:00:56 EST A Little Retiree's Humor You know those sheets of paper they put on the trays at fast food restaurants? I noticed the back of one at Dairy Queen and it was an application for a job. I told Danny to look at that. He grabbed it and said, "Here!" I said, "No, you take it!" He's always joking with folks about putting me back to work, LOL!
________

Anyway, back to my weekly blog...

Let me see. Last Thursday, I stayed home all day. Well, that is taking some getting used to. But I think ... Mon, 3 Feb 2014 16:36:52 EST Cruising Around Alaska, Fun Buying/Selling on eBay, Anniversary (31) Tuesday, I spent part of the afternoon checking out the Alaska cruises. We're going with one or two other couples sometime this summer. I'm looking forward to that. I can't wait! Then we went to lunch at Taco Bell. I haven't been there since I retired, so it was a nice little treat to run to lunch with Danny to the Taco Bell. Then we went and I got my retiree's CAC card for if I ever want to go back out to the depot to the gym, or the lake, or just back to visit the work peers. Then w... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 20:45:14 EST Photo Meeting, Ear Surgery, and Alex and Ani Bangle Bracelets Saturday, 25 Jan, was another one of our photo meetings. It was a little different this time and quite enjoyable. One of the couples hosted it at their home. We had a hands-on lesson about F-stops/Aperture. We all shot a lemon in a glass of Perrier water and worked with making it sharp with the high F-stops and strong Bokeh/Blur with the smaller F-stops. Then we enjoyed a lunch meal of Chicken Salad Croissants, Chip/Dip, Fruit, etc. She made a delicious lemon pastry dessert. (I guess ... Mon, 27 Jan 2014 21:55:10 EST Texarkana, Mt. Pleasant, Ear Surgery, Jewelry Sales, New Baby Furniture Monday, 20 Jan. I got up Monday morning and made a couple smoothies & froze for later. I thaw them out in the fridge overnight & they're good the next morning. I did 30 minutes on the mini trampoline and resistance band workout. For lunch I had Cracker Barrel leftovers. I made 3 meals out of one. Still had 1/4 of it left over for later.

The kids came over & loaded up their new baby furniture & visited for a while. Then Katie and Kate (our great-niece and her friend) came o... Fri, 24 Jan 2014 19:50:27 EST Shopping, Photo Club Mtg, Security Camera, eBay, Baby on the Horizon It's been a while since I've blogged, but posted little notes in my phone throughout the week of what I've been up to. Sorry it's going to be a bit long. I need to try to post at least a couple times a week from now on so each blog won't be so long.

Last Friday, 10 Jan 14. I was dressed and out of the house by 10:00 to go shopping with Jana. We went to Bransford's, Kohl's, Tamolley's, Changes, & Walmart. I bought a couple more pairs of tights, a top, and found a new pair of bl... Sun, 19 Jan 2014 15:08:04 EST It's Starting to Feel Real Well, this is the first week that I have actually felt like I was really retired. The days between my official retirement and before this week seemed like more of a vacation than really being retired what with the holidays and such. But this week, everyone is back in the swing of working and I'm not there. So far, so good though. I've stayed content. I've had little odds and ends things to do, but with some time to just sit back, relax and smell the roses, so to speak.

Monday,... Thu, 9 Jan 2014 19:41:24 EST It's a ? Wednesday - New Year's Day - I did 30 minutes from my Cardio/Yoga DVD. For New Year's Day dinner, we had Hot Links, Cornbread, Peas, and Cabbage. We had Danny's mother over; just the three of us. It was a good meal.

Thursday - I started on my To-Do list of cleaning out the files I carried home from work and also my personal files, but didn't get much done because as soon as I started, we decided to go get Pizza for me and Danny a Hamburger at the Junction. Then we came home & ... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 15:40:45 EST Recapping the Week - Danny Puny, Holiday Week Continues, Texarkana, and Savannah Danny was feeling better Saturday, but he was still a little fatigued & his digestive tract was still giving him a little trouble. I'm wondering if he may be developing gall bladder problems or some other type of digestive issue. One thing about it; he's trying to eat better because of all this.

I did 10 minutes of jump rope routine. Whew! That's the hardest workout for me. Can't jump near long enough. Would love to improve on that. Other than that, we didn't do much Satur... Tue, 31 Dec 2013 20:58:09 EST Made Me Laugh Me: I saw where you tried to call me.
Cody: I just wanted to ask if you wanted this desk but it's too late now.
Me: Oh, OK. Who got it?
Cody: The burn pile. Sun, 29 Dec 2013 16:24:55 EST Christmas, Danny's Trip to the ER Wednesday, Christmas Day. We have had a quiet Christmas this year. Usually, we have a big family gathering on my husband's side, and usually another one with my brother and his family, but this year, because of the death of the oldest member of the family on my husband's side, we didn't gather. I'm sad we lost the patriarch of the family, but it made for a different kind of Christmas this year. We just stayed home, enjoyed the immediate family's company, and just had a quite celebration. ... Fri, 27 Dec 2013 22:46:03 EST Christmas Eve is Tonight Monday, we went back to Texarkana, just piddling around. Plus, Danny bought me a chain for my new pendant. It's really neat. You can increase/decrease the length to any size between 16-22". That way, I won't have to buy different size chains for each pendant. I can just switch them out. We didn't have that much else to do since we've finished all our Christmas shopping. Just enjoyed the day to shop and do some people watching. We ate Chinese Food since we had been talking about it re... Tue, 24 Dec 2013 17:49:41 EST Latest on Home Invasion, Shopping with BFF, and Moving On The week has pretty much been on one subject...our home invasion. When things like that happen, it's hard to get your mind off of it and move on. We have taken new security precautions since then. We bought a safe, we now make sure our alarm is set and garage door down every time we leave the house, even if we are going to be gone for a short time and in broad daylight. We have checked on how to schedule our valuables on our insurance policy, even though Danny is trying to say that since ... Sun, 22 Dec 2013 19:20:37 EST No Longer Safe in My Own Home Danny and I are now crime victims. Sunday afternoon, in a matter of less than one hour, someone came to our home, kicked in our door, went through our house, and stole all of my jewelry and chains. Enough value for a felony. I guess you can say we were lucky. It was only material items they took. It could have been worse. They didn't touch anything else, i.e., credit cards, and other things of value that I won't mention here. They didn't bother Savannah. She's not house trained yet, ... Tue, 17 Dec 2013 19:57:46 EST Early Christmas, Day Trips, Family Coming In, Home Invasion It's been a while since I've blogged. Busy days so far, preparing for early Christmas, taking a couple trips out of town, family coming in, and to top everything off, we got robbed Sunday afternoon. I may do a separate blog on that.

Last Monday, we went to Paris, TX mainly for Danny to buy some new boots. He found a pair and then we went to the Sirloin Stockade for dinner. Just a nice day trip. It was amazing how when we crossed the county line, there was ice on all the tree... Tue, 17 Dec 2013 18:46:27 EST Cold But Cozy Weekend This weekend was a time to just stay home and out of the cold. We've had an "arctic blast" all around us. We actually have been pretty lucky in my area, but all around us there was snow, ice, wind and rain. Dallas was hit pretty hard, I know; but around here, it's been really cold, but very little, if any, ice. We were lucky this time. But it has kept us indoors mostly. I can hardly tolerate the cold. I got some warm coat and pants from my son to wear when I take Savannah out. We went... Sun, 8 Dec 2013 14:58:53 EST My First Full Day As a Retiree I've always needed to be in bed by 9:00 or so, but don't have to now, so last night I stayed up about an hour later. I also stayed in bed this morning until about 5:45. I actually woke up around 3:00 and laid there and dozed on and off. I just refused to get up because I didn't have to. I pretty much spent the morning as I do on Friday's and Saturdays; had a fruit smoothie, read the paper, played with the puppy, did a Hoop Dance workout, fixed lunch at home, got dressed a little before no... Wed, 4 Dec 2013 22:22:39 EST Well, It's Official! I am retired. Monday, my directorate had a pizza party for me. It was very nice, quiet, and simple; per my request. I just didn't want them to go all out for me. I'm a bit of an introvert, a bit shy, so just didn't think I could handle a big to-do, so asked that they make it simple. Then today, I did a last official shoot, and then started clearing out, saying my goodbyes, and then around noon, Danny met me and carried me to Red Lobster to celebrate. Also, I may have mentioned before, b... Tue, 3 Dec 2013 21:04:17 EST Thanksgiving at My House Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. I did it! I fixed Thanksgiving Day dinner. I fixed Chicken and Dressing, Fruit Salad, Raman Noodle Salad & Rolls with a Pecan Pie from Walmart Deli. Danny made the Green Bean Casserole. My DIL brought Mashed Potatoes, & Cream Cheese Pie and my MIL brought Cranberry Salad. It all turned out well. That was only the second time I have made Chicken & Dressing. I made it for the first time after the holidays last year just for me and Danny so I could make sure I... Mon, 2 Dec 2013 17:30:08 EST BFF Get Ready for Payback!!! My BFF sent me a text last night that she had something she needed to ask me...that it had weighed on her for a long time...that it might affect our friendship...stuff like that on it. It was a long text message and I was getting worried. I was thinking...what have I she mad...I can't lose her...she's my BFF...what would I do if she was upset with me...what could I possibly have done. Then at the end of the text she asked me. Do you know what she asked me? Do you? She asked me... Wed, 27 Nov 2013 12:14:42 EST Brother's Surprise, No Make-Up Day, Grocery Shopping in a Crowd I've already posted two blogs today, but wanted to recap the weekend now. Mainly about our family get-together Friday night. We went to a surprise 25th Wedding Anniversary party for my brother. Me and my sister and our husbands went which is a rarity for us all to get together. Actually hadn't seen my sister's husband in over 4 years. (Long story - But the short story is that she left him for 4 years and has just recently gotten back with him). But anyway, we had a really good time and... Tue, 26 Nov 2013 10:38:21 EST Introducing Savannah In my previous post is the song I wrote in memory of my precious Andy. I wanted to do that before I posted that we got a new puppy Thursday. Not to replace Andy, but to create her own special place in our hearts. Her name is Savannah and she's a Morkie (a cross between a Maltese and a Yorkie). She's 12 weeks old and weigh's 4 lbs, 1 oz, and we are already smitten with her.

I couldn’t find a rescue dog just like I wanted. I guess if I had kept looking, I could have. But I di... Tue, 26 Nov 2013 10:19:29 EST A Song in Memory of Andy We lost our precious Andy back in August. We have since adopted a new pet named Savannah. Not to replace Andy, but to create her own place in our hearts. There will always be room there for them both.

This blog is in memory of Andy.

Andy's Song
by Pam Barrett
(In memory of our beloved pet)

(Chorus)
It is the kind of love we felt from you; the kind of love we gave to you.

We shared our hearts. We loved your soul.
Our tears n... Tue, 26 Nov 2013 09:34:12 EST Counting Down the Days; Dreaming About Puppies Yesterday was a pretty busy day what with doing a couple of photo shoots and training the new girl. They are detailing the directorate secretary to come in behind me so I've been working with her the last few days. She's been going with me on shoots & I'm showing her the studio, passports, Photoshop and stuff. This is a job that she'll have to pick up lots on her own through training, and on-line videos. It's hard to "teach" how to be a photographer in such a short time frame with no of... Wed, 20 Nov 2013 11:31:01 EST Shopping, Photos, Movies, & Puppies Friday, 15 Nov 13 - We started Christmas shopping Friday because we have to have most of it done by 13 Dec. The kids are coming in early so they can be at their home for Christmas.

Saturday, 16 Nov 13 - The second Saturday in a row that I went off with my photo buddy and a new friend to go shoot pics. We had a bit of an adventure. My friend's son's friend has a cabin/home he built in the Doddridge, AR/Sulphur River area and he lives up in those woods in what to me looks like ... Mon, 18 Nov 2013 15:42:41 EST Photo Ops This Weekend Thursday, 7 Nov 13 - I was off Thursday. Just went to McD's. We were both bad; Danny eating the McRib & me eating the Filet O Fish meals. But we ate a little better for dinner of soup & cornbread. Nothing productive really just computer stuff & watching TV. Resting in preparation for the upcoming busy weekend of a wedding & photo trip to Garvan Gardens in Hot Springs, AR. My daughter-in-law had her next checkup. Everything was good. Heard the baby's heartbeat. Will go back in 4 weeks... Tue, 12 Nov 2013 14:25:09 EST Energetic This Weekend The Fall colors seemed to change to fiery reds, orange and gold overnight. We went to town on Friday and we could see slight color changes and then it seemed that just the next day the colors were so much more....well....colorful. It's time to get the camera out and get some great shots, quick... before they're blown away with the wind and rain. Now Halloween has come and gone and then, poof, here comes the Holiday season of people remembering what they are thankful for and posting them on... Mon, 4 Nov 2013 15:16:45 EST Further Observations of How It Is Working In a Cubicle Environment I've been in this unfamiliar type of environment for a little over three months now. And I only have 14 more working days left here. (For those who don't know, I'm retiring.) I just wanted to state a few things I've seen and heard pertaining to life as we know it in a box with three walls. Each of us has our own unique chime, bell, or whistle when we receive text messages, or reminders, or whatever on our trusty smart phone. Each of us has their own individual characteristic that makes... Wed, 30 Oct 2013 15:50:52 EST Perfect Opportunity for a Girl's Day Out Thursday I was on leave and my BFF was on leave giving us the perfect opportunity to have a girl's day out. So we went to the mall. We each got a couple of shirts and stuff. Then we went to TaMolley's. Yes I ate too much. It had been a longer stretch than usual since I had Mexican food and so I over-indulged. Then we went to Lane's Toyland and she bought her grandson a deer stuffed animal (it was really a moose, but he won't know the difference) for Christmas. She told me I need to fix... Mon, 28 Oct 2013 17:03:11 EST Kid's Priorities; Saga of Tubes in My Ear The kids are busy planning for the new baby. I told them not to let themselves get overwhelmed and to check goals off their to-do list one thing at a time. Right now they are looking at a new storage building. They live in a small trailer house; comfortable, and cozy, and living on a farm, but they need more storage space. They also are wanting a storm shelter. So that's their priorities for now.

I went to my ENT Specialist yesterday for my 6-mo checkup. I have a "permanent" ... Wed, 23 Oct 2013 08:48:54 EST
