After researching or 3 years my husband and I transitioned to a whole food plant based diet last Oct and have not eaten any animal protein, dairy, eggs, etc since then. My husband has lost about 20 lbs and I have lost 13. WE both LOVE this new way of eating. I had kind of given up on Spark People but today I found that there are many others who follow a WFPB diet too so I will join some new groups and hopefully find some new friends, more motivation and inspirati... Sat, 13 Feb 2016 14:08:35 EST A Year Later http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5813581 I need HELP!!!! Someone needs to give me a good swift kick. I was doing well until summer and then we left on our 3 month summer escape from the heat and I turned into the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Could someone exhort me and help me get back on track. I start out the day well and even lunch is good but after that it's all downhill. It's my own fault but i can't seem to get back on track. I'm embarrassed to even write this, I wrote the same stuff a year ago. Sun, 9 Nov 2014 12:14:45 EST Today I'm being totally honest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5534772 Today I did something that I've avoided doing for the whole summer, I changed my weight on my tracker to indicate the 10 lbs I've gained. Now I feel totally transparent as well as honest. I'm back to "0". Now maybe I can work harder on sticking to a healthy eating plan and getting my 11 lbs back off again so that ticker moves once again. Kind of feels good to not be hiding. I like it. Thu, 7 Nov 2013 10:32:15 EST Feeling very frustrated and dissappointed in myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5483763 I'm having a great summer in some ways, we have escaped the heat of Lake Havasu, met some wonderful folks in the campground we camphosted at, visited friends and relatives but I sure haven't done well with my food intake. I've eaten lots of healthy food but just too much of it I guess. I need a big fat kick in the butt. I'm rather disgusted with myself because I was doing so well until July. 39 I need to get back on track and just can't seem to do it. Thu, 12 Sep 2013 14:10:35 EST On the road for the summer http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5403363 We are on our summer "escape from the heat' trip, currently in Utah heading to Washington. Yesterday was such a sad day for me. My dearly beloved cat that I have had for 18 years since she was 6 wks old got out of our truck and we didn't realize she wasn't sleeping in her bed when we took off (our stupid fault for not checking twice) By the time we noticed she wasn't with us and we returned to where we had camped for the night she was nowhere to be found. I just pray that someone took her in... Thu, 27 Jun 2013 09:58:53 EST blepharoplasty, one day post op http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5389921 I had my blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) done yesterday and for anyone considering it it's really easy surgery and no post op pain at all. I do have swelling and bruising but he did a little extra work so it's to be expected. No exercise for 2 weeks 39 I'll have to be really careful with food intake. Sat, 15 Jun 2013 11:54:55 EST Today is the first day of our 4 month summer journey http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5385658 Today we begin our summer escape from the heat of Lake Havasu in the desert and will spend the next 4 months in our RV. Right now we are in Mesa and I will have my very baggy eyelids operated on this Friday. I had Graves disease a couple of years ago and my eyes swelled up something awful. My thyroid levels are now normal but my eyelids are very baggy so I'm getting then fixed. It's a little, or maybe a lot scary because the list of possible side effects is long but I have a great plastic sur... Tue, 11 Jun 2013 10:09:21 EST Today is 30 days http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5366660 Today is my 30th consecutive day that I have logged into Spark People. I originally joined in 2009 but did little to nothing until a month ago. Last summer when my husband and i were visiting my daughter in Manhattan someone took a photo of me with my cell phone and when i saw it I burst into tears because I saw.... really saw.... how overweight I had become. That light a flame of determination to do something about it but it took until April when my trainer at the gym had a big talk with me... Fri, 24 May 2013 11:33:06 EST My skinny shorts fit http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5364669 Today was a banner day, I discovered that my skinny shorts fit. They are nothing special just a pair of nice fitting denim shorts from LLBean that I have had for years and only fit into for a very short while about 3 years ago. I haven't lost a whole lot of weight but I've been diligent in working out both at the gym and in aquatic classes at our Aquatic Center. I guess it's all paying off. We will be taking off in our RV in 3 weeks and then another challenge presents itself........sticking... Wed, 22 May 2013 13:59:19 EST Exercise is good for mind and body http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5351462 Since recommitting to Spark People and myself to stay on my weight loss program I have been happy to have made it through 2 weeks. Since I am doing South Beach that means I have gotten through Phase 1 and can move on to Phase 2. I will do it very slowly as I am doing well in P1. I have increased my exercise a lot. It gets really hot in the summer here in Lake Havasu so I have started going to the Aquatic Center for the aqua motion class, a deep water class done with a flotation belt. I also... Thu, 9 May 2013 22:06:44 EST Successful restaurant strategy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5344321 I did something last night that worked very well. We were invited to join some friends for the wife's birthday at a local restaurant. It's a Mexican restuarant and not one of mu favorites. I got online looked at their menu, was dissappointed that they didn't have nutritional values, but went ahead and looked at all the entrees and decided what I would order. I got a tortilla taco basket salad with shredded chicken without the basket. I told the waitress I just wanted the salad, no tortilla b... Fri, 3 May 2013 11:39:44 EST Sodium...... public enemy #1????? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5342508 Yesterday I had to take my car an hour away for service. The town is rather small and I decided to get something for dinner before i headed home. There were a variety of fast food places and I finally decided on a place I hadn't gone to in years..KFC. I pulled up to the order board and looked everything over looking for something healthy. The lady on the speaker told me there was a special on boneless chicken so i decided on that along with cole slaw and green beans, no drink, just water. Wh... Wed, 1 May 2013 21:32:51 EST Hungry or Just Want to Eat???? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5340774 I have learned that there is a big difference between being hungry and your stomach is growling and your head wanting something to eat. I have found that the battle with my head is the hardest. It wants food when I'm tired, or feeling blue or bored or someone hurt my feelings. It's a much more difficult battle because my head wants sweet stuff or things I shouldn't eat. My stomach is usually satisfied with whatever is healthy and fills it up. So I'm trying to tame the ugly beast that lives... Tue, 30 Apr 2013 13:02:40 EST can't trust a salad http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5339637 My husband and I joined some friends to go and see Legally Blonde at our local live stage theater. Before the show we all went to Schlotzskys for dinner. I got a turkey avocado club salad which seemed one of the more healthy things on the menu. I had my own salad dressing and didn't eat the croutons. The salad had lots of "lunch meat" style turkey. When I got home I got on the computer to check the nutritional value of the salad and was horrified. It had 603 calories, 33 gms of fat and 2062 ... Mon, 29 Apr 2013 15:14:50 EST Starting again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5338229 I have been on so many diets over my adult life and I'm kind of tired of it because I never stick to them. I'm trying one more time and I want it to be the last. I have a trainer at my gym who is working with me, more for accountability, support and encouragement. I'm starting with South
Beach because a low carb nutritional intake works for me. 4 I'm making myself be diligent with logging into the trackers, a new discipline for me. In the past I'd never make it past lunch. ... Sun, 28 Apr 2013 12:24:17 EST
