I've committed to two challenges - the Starfish, and a BIGGEST LOSER challenge among 30 something family, family of family, and friends of family - starts on Monday. So I've been a little loose with eating - not too bad. I had reconnected on SP a couple of weeks before the challege started, and had lost a few pounds prior to the challenge. Thought since I had just started, i would lose some initial weight faster than I have.

I've tracked food most days and almost always below my calorie limit, and exercised more this week. I showed about 3 pound weight loss on Friday, but then on Saturday was back up 2 pounds. Attended an open house... UGH!!

I've developed such a bad habit of not eating much at meals, but snacking a lot. I think this is largely due to not having time for lunch break during years working as a nurse.

I was within my calorie range today - BUT about 40% was in snacks, and the nutritional content was overall terrible.

I've done well with changing this tendency when I track my food.

Tracking food isn't necessary... I've learned I eat a lot out of habit, busyness and boredom - NOT HUNGER. I've learned to "listen", or know when I'm really hunger, and learning a pattern of that for my schedule. So I try not to even think about eating until that appx time rolls around, and then still determine if I'm really hungry. It seems the... I've definitely been in denial thinking "this isn't too bad - I'll get over it". Well she sure set me straight about that today. I'm sure going to use my SP tools with this, and then she's added more - tracking food and feelings. I must have a lifestyle change - re-invent myself in regards to eating. I thought they only had 130 calories and 3 grams of fat. They've been my stand-by when I don't take snacks to work.

Well today I looked at the package and saw there are 2 servings in the package so there are 260 calories in the pack. Tracking keeps me accountable. One of the things talked about on the CD was to set your goals, and plan some action steps every day toward that goal.

The spark people article had some ... Sat, 31 May 2008 15:45:32 EST breaking the habit of procrastination http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1101786 I have somewhat of a problem with procrastination. Wed, 30 Jan 2008 11:28:28 EST for Mary Lou...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=906408 I just learned from a fellow team mate that our team member, Mary Lou, has passed away. This blog is in honor of her. Mary Lou was on the Chispa Chicks team for a challenge started in October by the Spark Class of 9/16-22. We continue as a support team even now and that is in part due to Mary Lou's faithful participation during the first couple of months after the team was formed. She participated regularly in October, November, and part of December. She decided to take a break, but rejo... It was really neat to reflect back at my progress over the 3-4 months on Spark People. I'm more consistent with eating healthy and exercising than I have been for several years. When I look at where I was 4 months ago and where I am now - I see a different attitude and approach to being healthy - knowing it won't be quick, but gradual change and personal growth can make it permanent. The support I've received from all of you has been inva... After much deliberation, I've come up with some resolutions. I've thought a lot about this. I want to avoid making resolutions, not keeping them, and abandoning the process.

So I made these ground rules for myself:
- these are just the beginning
- keep my goals in my thoughts, reviewing them about once a week
to see what I'm doing right, and make adjustments if appropriate
- refine the goal set... I've really been in a rut since leaving AZ a few weeks ago. I just can't seem to get that extra motivation. So I'm catching up on some very old spark e-mails - which really take it back to the basics (since I was supposed to read them soon after I joined SP).

This article is called "Setting up Shop". Sun, 16 Dec 2007 16:39:32 EST Thankful for family - and friends, old and new http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=835494 I'll just make a quick note to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. We had dinner tonight with my son, daughter-in-law, and one of my friends/coworker and her husband. We had such a nice visit with all - and it was great to see my son and his wife. I'm very glad to be home. There is absolutely NO PLACE LIKE HOME!! I've kind of been in limbo since last Friday. I attended the conference on Friday and Saturday, kept Maggie Saturday night through Sunday afternoon, packed on Sunday evening, on the road on Monday and Tuesday. I know I haven't BUSTED it big time - but I haven't been as compliant with the program. I'm glad to be home - where I have s... Tue, 20 Nov 2007 22:02:26 EST Saturday blog - A refreshing day........... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=830911 Well the conference concluded today. It was awesome! I'm encouraged and refreshed. These conferences (Women of Faith) started in 1996, and I've only missed about 2 years. There were 11,000 women there today. So much energy in that arena. I did ok with food. I plan to trackl Don't know if I stayed within calories, but think I did. I'll come back and edit my blog after I've done the tracking. I took 2 brisk 15-20 minute walks on the breaks, and there is just a lot of walking anyway -... Sun, 18 Nov 2007 00:01:27 EST quick note http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=830067 I'm going to write a quick note for my Friday blog. I've been at the conference since 10:00 this morning. It was awesome today - really caused me to think about a lot of things - including how I got here with all these unhealthy lifestyle habits. I did ok with eating for being at the conference all day - but again about 100 cals over my goal. I did exercise by walking up 4 flights of stairs during the lunch break. This was at a large sports arena so probably more like 6 "normal" flights... Sat, 17 Nov 2007 00:58:57 EST working on http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=828991 I worked on that "all or nothing" part of me. I still had Maggie all day - so no time to go to the rec center. We take Maggie with us in the mornings when my husband walks the dogs. She usually wants to "ride" her little 3 wheeler (by pushing with her feet) or pushes it. She tires out towards the end of walk. So I end of carrying her home while pushing the 3 wheeler. Today I decided to take the stroller and she decided she wanted to ride in it. That was good for me. So I used the time... Thu, 15 Nov 2007 23:49:45 EST All or nothing.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=827770 One thing I know about myself, but keep in the back of my mind, is that I'm "all or nothing". For example - as you see in my blogs, I did a lot of exercise Monday and Tuesday. Today I had plans to pick up Maggie in the afternoon and keep her overnight as we'll be leaving here in a few days. I also had a job interview, and had to tweak my resume before the interview. I still had some time to do a little exercise, but I didn't exercise at all as I didn't have time to do as much. No excuse ... Thu, 15 Nov 2007 01:08:09 EST Something new.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=826239 I had a good day today. I hit golf balls on the driving range, then went to the woodworking club to join and sign up for the orientation class. I want to help my husband with his projects, and hopefully, come up with some of my own. Then we went to an outdoor walking track which also has a fitness circuit (called Parcourse Fitness Circuit - everything is named after golf here). I'd never been there before and it was a neat thing. There were 17 stations with instructions for each, and sta... Tue, 13 Nov 2007 22:26:19 EST a quick, good workout http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=822166 Hello team!
I added a video to my favorites. It's a 15 minute workout using only a ball and a mat. I did most of these exercises with a trainer a few years ago. I thought the video gave a quick, but excellent strength workout. I have a ball in Ok and AZ. Some of the exercises are difficult initially - but I think they're fun to learn. Thought some of you might be interested as it would be easy to work into your busy schedules. I bought one of my balls at Walmart for $10.00. I did... Sat, 10 Nov 2007 20:28:59 EST Top 10 Strategies for Success (spark article) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=820974 I went to Weight Watchers today. I think I've written before about being required to weigh in as part of a workplace fitness program. I lost 0.4. So that makes 1.8 pounds of the 4 pounds I thought I'd lost before weighing in last week. I've done okay this week, but have let my guard down a little since the team challenge ended.

I'm looking forward to getting a fresh start on Sunday. I looked for an article that would be appropriate for that and found this one on 10 Strategi... Melissa asked about the retreat, so I'll tell you a little about it - don't know that I could begin to describe it. It was a women's retreat. It was a small group of women from the church we attend in Arizona, and it was our own retreat - we didn't go to join a larger group. The theme was "Loving Well". The presentation material was written/recorded by Beth Moore in a format... Sun, 4 Nov 2007 01:05:08 EST Education/Understanding http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=809481 I know I've talked about tracking before. But I need a refresher course. I didn't track for over 2 weeks - beginning with the trip to Phoenix from OKC. Tracking again this week has shown me:
1) I've gotten away from some of the healthy eating habits I'd developed when tracking regularly. I was evaluating more than calories. I looked at protein, fat, cholesterol - even folate. And I had learned how to add some foods, and take away others to achieve the recommendations in the nutrie... Although most of us probably know most the info in this article, it was good reinforcement for me. We don't have to be concerned about bulking up as we don't have the hormones for that. Women benefit from strength training by: toning and adding muscle - helps us lose inches (so that is certainly confirmation for those who are losing inches, but not losing weight every week); up to 30% incre... Wed, 31 Oct 2007 15:33:38 EST A better day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=804898 I'm much better today. I had to get up several times during the night to drink water - I was so thirsty. I really need to watch the sugar intake. My fasting blood sugar was 127 mg/dl when my lab was done in August for the fitness program at work. I've done well today - still really thirsty. We went to church this morning. That's been one of the challenges being here in Arizona. We've been at the same church in Okla. for 24+ years. Our church there is diverse and progressive, and othe... It's what I was thinking about writing about when I opened my page and then read Ruth's comment on my 10/18 blog - and thought well that confirms it. I tracked my food yesterday (which I do everyday on both the Weight Watchers and SparkPeople website), and found it wasn't a disaster. I had about 2400 calories - should have about 1500, and my value %'s were close to the recommended. This made me feel better and ma... By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.

Lesson:
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
<...
