PINKGRANNY's SparkPeople Blog PINKGRANNY's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Community When I joined SparkPeople many years ago there were two teams I was very active on. I drifted away and since I have returned those teams have died off. None of the teams I have joined since returning are very active. Before, we forged friendships and motivated each other. Now when I post on a team there is responses, no comments as if there is nobody out there. Perhaps there is just a new way of communicating on here and I haven't found it. Alas, I am just going to keep on ... Wed, 7 Feb 2018 14:59:16 EST Sugar Challenge I have been working on the Taming My Sweet Tooth Challenge for 5 days. It has been going well except that I did have some chocolate chips the other night. Not too many but....still had them. I got back onto the challenge the next morning. Fresh fruit tastes sweeter to me since I have cut back on added sugar and sweets. Thu, 11 Jan 2018 17:02:16 EST Thanksgiving Week It's rhe Monday before Thanksgiving and all through the house....the groceries are bought and recipes are ready! Mon, 20 Nov 2017 23:19:52 EST Sunday Feeling indifferent today but will get back into focus. My goal is not handily available yet it is there waiting for me. Sun, 5 Nov 2017 13:09:26 EST Saturday.... We got a lot of yard work done this morning with the help of family. It feels especially good as there is a skiff of snow on the ground. The activity got my blood pumping and I still feel energized. It is projects like this that remind me how much activity we can get into our lives with projects around the home. Sat, 4 Nov 2017 14:44:17 EST Fitbit Break! I took a 24 hour break from my Fitbit. I think it was a good idea to take that focus off and as for tracking my was nice not to see that green light blinking when I rolled over. Perhaps I slept better too knowing I wasn't monitoring it.! Thu, 2 Nov 2017 17:16:45 EST Pay Attention! I recently discovered that I need to be aware of what goes on my nutrition tracker. I used the Spark Scanner on my label for Food Should Taste Good Multigrain chips. The scanner is a valuable tool for us and I often save that information in my list of favorites. One afternoon while thinking my calories were off, I actually looked at the size the scanner gave my portion and croaked. It recorded the portion at 1.5 oz., giving it a whopping 210 calories. At that point I figured I'd readjust... Wed, 1 Nov 2017 18:36:39 EST Light lunches.... Sometimes a light lunch that seems like a snack more than a meal can often be a calorie trap. Watch out for little slices of cheese with a cracker and adds up. Better to eat a hearty meal that will stick to your ribs. I do better with a sandwich I made that I know will be satisfying and also within my planned calorie range. Tue, 31 Oct 2017 22:13:20 EST Day Two Yesterday went started as a blank canvas. So far everything has been recorded. I am focusing on my water today and will try to add more vegetables. I like vegetables but sometimes in the rush of the day they can readily be overlooked. Mon, 30 Oct 2017 16:26:34 EST It's Time to Set Goals It is easy to be complacent and track or not track, eat mindlessly and look twice or more for something that fits in the closet. Getting real now, it is time to put myself into gear and develop those habits that will get me on track.

Today: Track every bite and morsel. Drink water. Stay focused on my ultimate goals Those goals will be positive, achievable and measurable. Sun, 29 Oct 2017 14:24:01 EST Exercise? I don't like to exercise! I do like how it makes me feel and I anticipate a more pain free life with continued dedication to my workout plans. Thu, 17 Aug 2017 14:39:11 EST Lifestyle Changes I believe I am a retread when it comes to lifestyle changes. I keep coming back to start over. Small steps mean big wins so I will just try to keep myself in focus to achieve my goals one at at time. The place to start is identifying goals in order to achieve them. In order to achieve weight loss I need to focus on what I am really eating and tracking what I eat. It always comes back to this and it is important to realize that this should be a lifetime habit, lest I lose my way on the journe... Tue, 1 Mar 2016 09:32:50 EST Taming the Sugar Habit I am working at it...trying to tame the sugar habit. It is a good thing I don't have sweetened coffee. Working at this challenge helps make wiser decisions and I will be glad to see how the next few weeks go! Wed, 17 Feb 2016 20:28:08 EST Motivation.... Ah, motivation, I need you today! Thu, 30 Aug 2012 12:28:09 EST Keeping on with my Journey I am not moving as fast on this trail as I would like to but I am still moving forward in my own way. This week I am focusing on tracking my food. Good, bad and ugly. I am paying attention to what I am eating and how I feel afterward.

Not eating after supper is the second thing I am working on and have been for a few weeks. I am realizing I don't need to snack that late. I haven't been a night time snacker but sometimes when my husband is having his ice cream it is hard not to hav... Fri, 24 Aug 2012 10:47:05 EST Yikers.... Just realized how long ago I blogged here. I have since left my new just wasn't what it was cracked up to be I am re-inventing myself again. Sad? No...why stick with something that was taking a mental toll for boredom and full of way too much seat time. Life is too short and I don't need that. Here's to new adventures and more activity~ Sun, 19 Aug 2012 21:15:02 EST New week later! Whew! I have been at my new job for one full week now and I am happy to say that I am not as tired as just a week ago. And... the software system is easier to navigate too. I am settling in and it feels good. Mon, 27 Feb 2012 22:30:50 EST A penny.... Someone famous, probably Benjamin Franklin said a "Penny saved is a penny earned"....the same thing doesn't apply to pounds...too bad they are harder to "spend" than pennies! Tue, 31 Jan 2012 08:54:44 EST Merry Christmas! May you all have a wonderful day! Sun, 25 Dec 2011 17:56:32 EST Oatmeal....a great way to start the day! Oatmeal is a go-to food in my house. I used to take packets to work with me in the '80's because the bank where I worked had a hot water dispenser and it was easy to pack in a Tupperware container.

Fast forward to the past 10 to 15 years and you find me taking 1/2 cup of regular quick cooking oatmeal in the same Tupperware container and cooking it in the microwave. It takes less than two minutes to cook and the site of that rich bowl of plain goodness entices me to slow down and sa... Sat, 12 Nov 2011 08:50:35 EST Planning ahead.... I am in planning mode today. I want to fill my pages with good fall recipes that will be on my mind as I track my daily food choices. Planning will also help my husband by letting him know that I am on the ball with "What's for dinner" rather than having no clue and then settling for last minute choices that are not a good fit with my program. Sun, 6 Nov 2011 15:53:24 EST Fall means altering menu plans There seems to be that time as the weather cools down that we need to adjust our food plans....salad for the main dish isn't as satisfying in November as it is in July. I tend to have a heartier appetite too which can be a nuisance when I am trying to eat healthy and within my calorie budget but my tummy says it is still hungry! To help achieve balance I switch to heartier recipes for soups, baked hot dishes (my mom's old fashioned name for casseroles....). I also stock up on my favorite teas... The belly comes before the soul.

- George Orwell, British writer
Thu, 27 Oct 2011 10:29:03 EST Saturday.... Ah fall is in the air, the night was cool, the fog blanketed the fields this morning as my grandson played soccer. He commented tonight that he enjoyed watching the fog disappear while he played his game. He is so observant, so vibrant in his descriptions that some days it is hard to believe that in a mere month he will be eight years old. He is wise in his youth, wise in ways we can no longer be because he has the curiosity and interest of a child. Every day is fresh with new things to disco... Sun, 16 Oct 2011 00:43:54 EST Water.... Now that the weather is cooling off, it may be harder to get our water in. Hot tea is a good way to get in your water. It is warm, soothing and also helps quell hunger. There are a lot of varieties in the market to choose from whether it be Earl Gray, Lady Gray (I choose decaff) regular black tea, green tea, herbal tea...check them out!

Sometimes it is fun to check discount stores like Ross or TJ Maxx who often have great brands not available on the grocery shelves. Wed, 12 Oct 2011 09:47:08 EST Friday October 7th! Fall is definitely here and the cooler air makes me hungry! I am here I all you other night owls....good evening. Sat, 3 Sep 2011 02:17:50 EST Bread! I love whole grain bread. Currently I have Kirkland brand in my freezer. When it is gone I am replacing it with Oroweat again! I found a Multi-grain bread from Oroweat that has 80 calories a slice and is not of the miniature variety like the Light Bread I used to buy. Last week I enjoyed a PBJ sandwich without the guilt of spending 280 calories on bread....or 140 calories for a half sandwich. This will help me save calories while staying satisfied. I used light bread for more years than I wan... Tue, 23 Aug 2011 21:56:36 EST Tuesday....August 2! More fruits...nectarine with my at lunch, grapes and pineabpple! My Granddaughter and I decided to eat on the upper deck and leave that for Grandpa to take care of. Up above, there were no signs of bees on the umbrella but we heard them buzzing in the background nonetheless. My dear one called them useless critters until I explained about how we enjoy f...
