It's incredibly encouraging!

Second, I found a group on Facebook called Crazy Good Virtual Races. The entry fee for each of their races (like $25 each) go to different charities. I think there may be a bunch of those in my future.

AND I'm thinking of organizing my own virtual race to round out the fundraising requirement for my charity entry for the Dumbo Double Dare. Found several places online that will... Thu, 22 Aug 2013 18:04:09 EST So, I've been thinking....aka another crazy idea http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5462024 I read an article in one of the magazines that show up at the park dist gym about these 2 ladies that decided (separately) that for their 30th birthday, they were going to run 30 races that year....

I'm turning 40 in Sept. I'm sure you can see where this is headed.

It started my thoughts down that path of could I DO 40 races between my 40th birthday and my 41st? That's a little under 1 race a week. Wed, 21 Aug 2013 13:07:20 EST Feeling a little dorky, but that's ok http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5451810 So, I've started carrying a jump rope with me for my work travels. I felt a little kooky just jumping, and then I started keeping track of how many times I could jump without missing (or hitting) the rope. Made it much more interesting. Like an adult combination of getting a PR in a run, and the little kid keeping count.

I didn't think much about the jumping, until I input it in the fitness tracker today. 5 mins of jumping rope (slow!) is 92 calories? Seriously? That's better... I'm back on the training program, and working back toward being ready for the Dumbo Double Dare. (Sept 1)

I signed up for the Space Coast 1/2. (Dec 1)

First question. How do I stay conditioned between races? I don't want to start from scratch, but I think it's unrealistic to think I've got the time to go out and run 13.1 miles every weekend. Fri, 1 Mar 2013 23:42:09 EST Lent, Or something else? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5251854 First off, let me start by saying that I am not religious. I do know what the Christian holidays are about (Easter's meaning, etc), but I do not consider myself to subscribe to any one particular religion.

That being said, I was out to dinner with my crew on Ash Wednesday, and they were discussing what they were giving up for Lent. I did well when I participated in one last year here on SP. I was serious about it, I trained at the gym a lot. I ate better. I counted my calories.

I'm just not feeling it this time. UGH. I can't weigh in until I stop thru my own base, sometime next week (like the 5th). Which means that I don't want to do anything toward my weight loss goals until I've weighed in. ... In the meantime, I'm sitting in a 2 BR apartment in CA that I share with a bunch of others (11 others).

Anyhow, I took some time the last couple weeks (since I now have a bunch of it) to review my goals.

On my list, has been to earn the "Coast to Coast" Disney medal. I think it's kicking my butt too hard, and I am likely to repeat week 4. BUT I did all 3 workouts, it's the first time (in 4 tries) that I've actually made it to week 4, much less actually done it, so if it takes me 2 weeks to do week 4 then so be it.

This is also the first time I've gotten the y... Baby steps. I'm grabbing the water bottles more often when I'm at work. I still want flavoring packets, so I bring a bunch with. The downside is that more water means I have to 'go' more. So while I skipped yet another week on the C25K Program, I was not completely devoid of exercise. According to my stopwatch we averaged 6 hours per day of walking or slowly moving in line.

My one caveat is that we did the dining plan. 1 sit down, 1 counter service, and 1 snack per day. It was too much food, and because we were a group of 8, the s... Tue, 8 Nov 2011 10:41:12 EST This week's good http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4547801 This week wasn't too bad.

I got in 3 workouts....today's is still pending (which will make 4).

I am 'trained' for another year, or until I go to a new airline, or until they make me a captain again. I think it will be the middle choice, BTW. This is always stressful. Yes, it's the same plane I always fly, but thankfully, how often do I deal with engines on fire? The answer is NEVER outside the sim...and I prefer to keep it that way. Hope I didn't just jinx it, but... Sat, 22 Oct 2011 12:41:50 EST Hard http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4534309 Today was hard.

I did what's called a 'stand-up' with my spouse. You do the last flight in, and the first flight out, with very little time in between. Consider it the graveyard shift for pilots. The takeaway is that I got about 4 hours of sleep last night.

I knew that it was coming, so I napped yesterday before leaving, and today when I got back.

It meant that I had no energy for exercise. I only walked about 20 minutes.

It also means that I ... Thu, 13 Oct 2011 19:40:55 EST Concrete Evidence http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4530818 Today I was given 'concrete' evidence of my weight loss.

I have to visit my Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) once a year so that he can pronounce me 'fit to fly' and issue me another medical certificate. I've been going to the same Dr for 10 + years, so he's got a decent record of what my medical history is.

When I compared today's weight to last years, I'm officially down 11 pounds.

Also, he needed to check my blood pressure twice. He asked if I've been ... Tue, 11 Oct 2011 18:39:11 EST That little voice.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4524054 As you all know by now, I'm working thru one of the Couch to 5K plans.

If you adhere to the plan religiously, there is interval running every other day. Wednesday should have been my running day, but I just wasn't feeling it. I joined the gym thru our park district a couple weeks ago when our weather was lousy. 40's and 50's the last week of September, and it was raining every day. UGH! So running inside was a benefit. Plus, when my husband isn't home, they have a child care ... Fri, 7 Oct 2011 11:25:59 EST More shoe discussion http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4511229 I had not seen the Reebok lawsuit on the news before posting, but I think it's timely. Makes me wonder how long it will be before other manufacturer's are being sued as well.

I do continue to wear them because they feel like they have a really high level of cushioning.

Long story short (my actual running shoes were elsewhere), I used my toning shoes in the gym today on the treadmill, and they worked just fine for running. In fact, my legs feel better than usual after... Thu, 29 Sep 2011 23:04:33 EST Shoe Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4509440 Awhile ago, I posted about buying the "toning" shoes, and I wanted to follow up with it.

The big deal with the so called 'toning' shoes is that they are supposed to work more of your muscles than you would just walking in regular shoes. They are meant to simulate walking over uneven ground. The way the cavemen had to walk before we paved over the world, thus engaging more muscle groups that if you walk on the flat sidewalk....

I had really not found that these sh... Wed, 28 Sep 2011 22:39:16 EST So much to do.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4507082 Wow, has it really been the entire month since I posted? Ok, not quite, but certainly close enough!

First off, THANK YOU to everyone who sent birthday wishes my way. They were much appreciated.

Second, I must now admit that I fell 'off the wagon' for a couple weeks.

I kept up with my water intake, but did horribly with watching what I ate. I'm going to blame stress. Our vacation is at the end of October, and it's turned into a 3 ring circus what with the g... Tue, 27 Sep 2011 16:49:31 EST Sami's blog challenge...or what is my weakness food. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4470550 Mine is fresh baked goods.

Particularly when my mother makes fresh zucchini bread. It's something great from my childhood. We would use zucchini straight from the garden. I remember grating the zucchini by hand with a cheese grater, and then my mom and grandma would chop it very fine before we could put it in the blender. The kids (my brother, cousins and I) would have to chop the nuts in one of those grinders with the twisty handle.

Thank goodness for the food proce... Tue, 6 Sep 2011 22:50:34 EST
