My most recent running project was the 2012 Disney Princess half marathon on February 26. I didn't have extremely ambitious expectations for this race, given that I was less than two months out from the monstrous Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. Buuuuut, there must have been pixie dust out on the course or something because I SHATTERED the goals I had for myself! (Yes, being a competitive spirit, I did have goals, even though the plan was for Princess to be an easier race.) It was a rea... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 23:17:36 EST Goofy's over. What's next? Now that Goofy's behind me, it's time to switch gears and move on to my next goals. The next couple of months, my main focus is to TAKE IT EASY and let my tired body rest. There's a rule of thumb that states for every mile you race, you should give yourself one day of recovery. So, if I'm doing my math right, that would leave me in recovery until somewhere around February 23. Got it?

I do have a half marathon on the radar, and it's the Disney Princess Half Marathon in late Febr... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 23:54:54 EST Officially Goofy Race Report III: WDW Marathon & The Day After It's been a few days, and I was waiting in hopes that my brightroom photo downloads would be delivered to me before I posted. But since they're NOT - I guess the photographers are taking their sweet time getting them together, I'll go ahead and post my written blog with personal and photopass photos (but no race photos YET). The WDW Marathon was incredible, everything I hoped it would be and then some! And I got a wonderful surprise too...a marathon PR AND sub-five hour time! It was physi... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 17:33:40 EST Officially Goofy Race Report II: WDW Half Marathon & Kids Races My Goofy adventure continued on Saturday with the WDW Half Marathon (for 15th anniversary Donald bling) and the kids' races, which Timmy would be running. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better day! I was already familiar with the half course, since it was identical to the one used for Princess, although Disney packed it with some different characters and fun surprises and entertainment. My one complaint/criticism of the event was that the course was somewhat excessively crowded at p... Wed, 11 Jan 2012 00:47:33 EST Officially Goofy Race Report I: Disney Family Fiesta 5K Over the last several months, my running and training have been focused on my "ultimate" fitness goal: to complete Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge at Walt Disney World this January. For those who aren't familiar, Goofy's challenge involves running a half marathon on Saturday, followed by a full marathon on Sunday. 39.3 miles in two days...crazy! There was something alluring and exciting about taking on this challenge at my favorite place in the world, Disney last March, I took... Tue, 10 Jan 2012 20:01:35 EST So. Um. Yeah. I ran a marathon last weekend :) My first 26.2...done!

I traveled to Florida over Thanksgiving weekend to run the Space Coast Marathon with many of my running buddies, including a handful of Sparkers. It was quite the experience! I'm admit it, I was quite nervous during the race, and in the last 6-7 miles and the couple of hours after, I wondered what on earth I had done to myself! But, in the end, I'm incredibly proud and glad that I did this. And I'm definitely on board with doing more in the future. Here a... Sat, 3 Dec 2011 16:21:32 EST Two weeks until marathon #1's been a while since I've written a SparkPeople post, but I'm still in the land of the living. I am blogging daily over at, but can get a bit lazy about copying my posts over to this site. Forgive me :)

What's up with me...

Going on this post title, I am now just under two weeks away from my first full marathon, Space Coast on November 27! I have been training very carefully and conservatively for it, and finished my very l... Mon, 14 Nov 2011 13:20:31 EST Race Report: Haunted Hustle Half Marathon 2011 I've been laying low on SP for a has been crazy busy and way too much has been going on. But I'm still at it with my running, as usual! This weekend, I ran my 11th half marathon and final half of 2011, the Haunted Hustle Half Marathon in Middleton. This was the very race which qualified me for Half Fanatics this time last year. I had the pleasure of running with Spark buddies Laurie, Emily, and Elsa (who qualified herself for HF with this race!! YAY!) and it was amazing! It... Tue, 1 Nov 2011 22:42:50 EST Goofy 23.2/Space Coast Marathon 1.2 Friday night, I encountered something I hadn't experienced in quite a while, honest-to-goodness, full-blown pre-race-day jitters! I've run many 5K, a couple of 10K, and plenty of half marathons, but when faced with my first-ever group bike ride, I'm about as frightened and self-conscious as I was the night before my first 5K. Would I look like a total poser among all the "real" cyclists? I took a training run to burn off some steam, but many of those lingering "whatifs" remained. Ah, the ... Sat, 8 Oct 2011 22:20:46 EST Goofy 23.1/Space Coast Marathon 1.1 Getting caught up on training blogs post-Disney. It definitely has felt a bit strange to transition back from the magic of Disney World to ordinary run-of-the-mill Wisconsin LOL! Thankfully the weather has been absolutely dreamy this week, so that's made it a lot easier. It is a bit bizarre to have 70-80 degree weather and see the leaves changing colors though. We did make it home in one piece, although Timmy had a bit of a painful mishap in the airport parking lot (he's fine though). I ... Sat, 8 Oct 2011 17:30:02 EST One more Disney blog! Okay, here's my final update from the Wine & Dine weekend :)

This one is more of a "regular" vacation blog, recapping the two days we spent in the parks after the Wine & Dine half marathon. Lots of photos included, if you feel like browsing.

11/10/wrap-up-disneys-wine-dine-half-m
arathon.html

Cheers!

67 Fri, 7 Oct 2011 17:03:49 EST More recaps from Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend! Last night and this morning, I finished up the next two parts to my Wine & Dine weekend recaps. Enjoy!

Kids' Races

11/10/race-report-disney-kids-races-li
ttle-ts.html

Half Marathon

11/10/race-report-disneys-wine-and-din
e-half.html

181 Fri, 7 Oct 2011 11:45:34 EST Back from Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend! It's been a while since I've updated my blog here on SP, but have definitely had a lot going on! I'm in the process of writing up my race reports for Disney's Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend (which was amazing, by the way!) I have part I (expo) and part II (Halloween 5K) done, and will be adding more entries for the kid's races, half marathon, and my time in the parks later on...

Expo

11/09/goofy-224wine-dine-hm-64.html </link... Thu, 6 Oct 2011 11:13:25 EST Race Report: Fox Cities Half Marathon It took me a few days to find the time to get this together, but I finally have a race report from the Fox Cities Half Marathon, which I ran as a final training run for Wine & Dine, which is now one week and one day away! I didn't have any particular expectations for FCHM, since I randomly found it on the Half Fanatics race calendar a couple of weeks ago and signed up last-minute, but it was an amazing experience! Very impressive organization, gorgeous (and fast) course, wonderful volunteer... Fri, 23 Sep 2011 13:57:31 EST Taking the plunge... I signed up for my first official bike ride! It's not really a race, more like the cycling equivalent of a fun run, but I'm very excited! It came with a 10 or 25 mile option (I chose 10), and is a fundraiser for breast cancer research. I think it will be the perfect introduction to cycling in a more organized setting with other people. I'll be doing this ride on October 8, the weekend after I come home from Florida. I can't wait!

... Sun, 18 Sep 2011 22:40:45 EST Goofy 20.4/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 4.4 This weekend I ran the Fox Cities Half Marathon as my final long run/preparation for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon. I was slated for a 14 mile training run anyway, so doing the run as part of an organized event with course support, shirts, medals, and swag seemed like a perfect motivator! My plan for the half was to relax, take it easy, and treat it as a training run at a comfortable pace, just one with lots of extra people around! On Saturday I hit the expo and came away with some fun new... Sun, 18 Sep 2011 22:18:18 EST Goofy 20.3/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 4.3 Catching up on this week's blogging :)

This one is from Thursday night. I actually combined biking and running into a workout, just to do something a bit different and challenging. It was a fun (hilarious in parts) experience, and definitely quite a confidence booster! I hit a sub-10-minute mile pace on a training run, and actually felt GOOD afterwards! Wow!

11/09/goofy-203wine-dine-hm-43.html

... Sun, 18 Sep 2011 22:14:41 EST Goofy 20.2/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 4.2 Big milestone Wednesday first bike ride since college! It felt amazing, fast, exhilarating, and just purely awesome, even though I was actually bumping along at a whopping 9.0 MPH. Hehe. I can feel that my bike and I have many good miles ahead of us, and am excited to see where it all takes me!!

11/09/goofy-202wine-dine-half-marathon
-42.html

332 Fri, 16 Sep 2011 11:27:42 EST Goofy 20.1/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 4.1 Ironman inspired me, what can I say...yesterday, Bruce and I had a "date" in our garage, where we fixed up my old college bike. We dusted off the cobwebs (which it really had, how sad is that) and put it in working order. I purchased a helmet and a set of lights, and I'll all ready to take it on its maiden voyage! The plan is to start riding, look to training for a sprint triathlon next year, and if I take to it, invest in a nice road bike...and after that, who knows??? Short term, I've s... Thu, 15 Sep 2011 00:34:26 EST Goofy 19.5/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.5 This blog is a fairly emotional one for me, as it covers my experience of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, as well as spectating Ironman Wisconsin. It may not seem at face value that these two things can really be tied together, but somehow I feel like I was right where I needed to be yesterday. If my blog seems rambly, I think I spent most of the day just overwhelmed by much to remember, think about process, what a day it was!

Mon, 12 Sep 2011 23:28:57 EST Goofy 19.4/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.4 Okay, so I'm a day or two behind in blogging, as usual, so this is from yesterday's training run. I had a quick 3.31 mile spin around the neighborhood, and it was hot, hot, hot out there! Grateful for the warmth and sunshine, though, since in a couple of months, when it starts to get cold and even snowy, I'll be wanting the summer weather back!! I thought a lot about 9/11, mainly how I'm in shock and disbelief that it was TEN years ago, yet the memories remain as raw and vivid as ever. My... Sun, 11 Sep 2011 22:06:03 EST Goofy 19.3/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.3 On Thursday night, I wrestled with a running-related problem that I haven't really seen since I last ran on the treadmill, a few months ago - BOREDOM! Seriously?! Does this ever happen to you? Wonder if this was just a one-time fleeting thing or if it's a sign that I should change things up a bit. Hmmm. In other news, one of my favorite sporting events of the year, Ironman Wisconsin, is coming up this weekend! One of my co-workers will be racing in it, and I'm incredibly excited for her... Sat, 10 Sep 2011 22:37:15 EST Goofy 19.2/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.2 Pretty typical training run (although with extra good weather) in the midst of a very stressful sort of week! Not only was there a LOT LOT LOT of work, but also we got smacked with a *gulp* $3000 car repair bill! NOT fun, right?! In better news, my trip to Florida for Wine & Dine is just three weeks long overdue for some chillaxin' at the House of Mouse!

11/09/somehow-it-isnt-quite-registerin
g-in-my.html

... Fri, 9 Sep 2011 22:28:42 EST Goofy 19.1/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 3.1 Yesterday, I was treated to some BEAUTIFUL early fall-like weather, so had to take the opportunity to get out for my first training run of the week: 7.1 miles around town...a completely scenic tour including a couple of parks, downtown, the local high school, and the sewage plant! I'm now 75% of the way to my 2011 mileage goal, and getting very excited about W&D Half Marathon, which is now less than four weeks away. EEK! Where is the time going?

onegoofymotherrunner.blogs... Tue, 6 Sep 2011 11:49:18 EST Goofy Week 18/Half-of-a-Half Marathon (Virtual) Race Report Due to a severe lack of training this week, due in part to lingering illness (which thankfully is better by now) and complete overload at work that had me working after hours three nights during this work week, I only have one particularly noteworthy blog entry to share about Goofy week 18/W&D week 2! This week, many of my friends traveled to Disneyland for their annual half marathon weekend...and as you know, one of my big running-related wishes is to get out there one day and earn myself a... Mon, 5 Sep 2011 21:25:57 EST Goofy 17.5/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 1.5 Very miscellaneous blog from Sunday. I squeezed in a training run of about 10k, and it went better than Saturday's, although still pretty tiring and labored. I'm still fighting the ear infection, unfortunately, even though I had almost convinced myself that it was getting better! I also took Timmy shopping for some "big boy shoes," and did some more running-related shopping (not the kind where I actually spend money, just the kind where I "window shop" online and make lists of things I wan... Tue, 30 Aug 2011 00:45:05 EST Goofy 17.4/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 1.4 I'm a couple of days behind on blogging, so this entry is for Saturday. I struggled through a very tiring, overheated training run (that ended up being a walk) but in better news, I finally fit into a running skirt that's basically been too tight since I bought it! There's always a silver lining. *Grin*

11/08/goofy-174wine-dine-hm-14.html

27 Tue, 30 Aug 2011 00:09:06 EST Goofy 17.3/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 1.3 Last night, I was able to get out for my first training run since Madison Mini Marathon. I'm happy to report that it was a success! I think I'm just about over my illness *knock on wood* and my post-race "recovery" is feeling very much like a non-event. My decision to take it easy in last Saturday's half, definitely a good one. Just five weeks and one day until Wine & Dine half marathon. I am psyched!

oofy-173wine-dine-hm-13.html ... Fri, 26 Aug 2011 22:31:32 EST Goofy 17.2/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 1.2 I hoped to start training for W&D last night, but as luck would have it, my ear infection is still keeping me out of the running (literally). So I took another easy rest day yesterday (other than some Wii workouts...), continued to contemplate my future racing schedule (too many races, too little time), and thought about the impending arrival of my favorite season of the year...FALL!

oofy-172wine-dine-hm-12.html

... Thu, 25 Aug 2011 10:38:14 EST Goofy 17.1/Wine & Dine Half Marathon 1.1 I'm still up on cloud nine after the Madison Mini Marathon, but it's time to shift gears and think about my next event, the Wine & Dine Half Marathon (at Disney World!!) in six weeks. Last night, I was due for my first post-Madison Mini training run, an easy four miles, but my bum ear was making that kind of impossible. So instead, I took it easy and spent some time sketching out ideas for my 2012 racing schedule. NEVER too soon to start planning! Here's a link to last night's training/pl... Wed, 24 Aug 2011 11:07:34 EST Race Report: Madison Mini Marathon 2011 Long time no least over here on SparkPeople. I've been keeping a training/running blog over on Blogger, but haven't been the greatest about linking it up to SP for my friends to keep up. I'm going to work on that, promise!

This weekend, I ran the 2011 Madison Mini Marathon with my SparkPeople friends Laurie and Elsa, and it was an experience to remember! Just incredible, in spite of a ninety minute weather delay. I wrote up a race report. Read it at this link:
... Tue, 23 Aug 2011 00:01:17 EST Race Report: Madison Half Marathon 2011 This weekend, I ran my seventh half marathon, the Madison Half Marathon. What better way to celebrate my birthday and National Running Day, both of which are today, with 13.1 miles of FUN?!

My goals for the race were to improve on last year's time and to cross the finish line feeling better than I did last year - both of which I accomplished! Call me a nerd :)

Anyway, I did finish up my training for Country Music Half Marathon, and ran it on April 30. It was a fabulous experience - everything I had hoped for and MORE!

Here's the link to part I, the expo and pre-race recap! Part II coming soon...... Fri, 6 May 2011 22:06:25 EST Project Pixie Dust...somewhat derailed, but I'll keep on keeping on I looked at my blog today and realized that it's been a couple of weeks since I've posted any kind of update. So, on that note, I probably owe all my SparkPeeps an obligatory "what's up with me" post so you know that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth...into a pool of gooey, sweet milk chocolate :)

So, as the blog title suggests, Project Pixie Dust has somewhat derailed over the last couple of weeks. It all started innocently enough with an extra dessert or treat here and... Fri, 18 Mar 2011 10:20:00 EST Country Music Half Marathon 8.1 02-21-11 Not really sure which training week to put tonight's workout with, since it is kind of a make up of (at least part of) yesterday's scheduled LSD which I ended up missing, but we're technically now in week 8. Just over two months away from race day! WOW, before I know it that sparkly rock star (country music star?) bling will be mine all MINE! In any event, my foot is on the mend now and I felt like trying a workout, so opted for this week's virtual 5K session on the good old treddie...while t... Wed, 23 Feb 2011 22:00:00 EST Project Pixie Dust: Day 100 02-21-11 ** Faith, trust, and pixie dust! **

One hundred days of Project Pixie Dust...that's quite a milestone! Looking back, I feel like this project has helped me get into some good rhythms/habits, like with my water drinking and fruits and veggies. It's helped motivate me to stay on track with my training and working out, although I still have some tuning up to do in my food and tracking. Hopefully my new "you bite it, you write it" item will motivate me to actually track everything and ... I'm pretty sure Old Man Winter has it in for me. He's out to get me! Yesterday it was slipping and falling on some ice and wrenching my foot, which luckily seems to be somewhat on the mend today. Today it was accidentally skidding my car into the side of a building. Yes, really. Luckily it wasn't at any fast speed and the building and car didn't sustain any damage to speak of. Whew. This is actually t... Wed, 23 Feb 2011 21:58:09 EST Country Music Half Marathon 7.2 02-19-11 So...about that outdoor training run. Yes, it did happen, and it was glorious, at least for the first 75% or so, when Old Man Winter decided that he had enough of me frolicking around in the sunshine and quickly ended the fun by planting an evil patch of ice right in my path.

I got up on the late side (oh, at all of about seven forty-five or so) and enjoyed some breakfast, and noted the temperature...twenty one degrees. COLD! Since it was still pretty early, and I had heard that i... Tue, 22 Feb 2011 20:17:23 EST Project Pixie Dust: Day 98 02-19.11 ** Faith, trust, and pixie dust! **

Interesting Saturday, for sure! I ventured out today for my first outdoor training run of 2011, 6.68 miles, from my townhouse to Verona and back. Generally, it went very well. Most of the sidewalks were clear of snow and ice, the 28 degree temperature actually felt relatively comfortable, and I was in a good groove with my run/walk intervals...until I met the most evil patch of ice ever. It was hanging out in the shade, probably already mocking ... Tue, 22 Feb 2011 20:16:44 EST Country Music Half Marathon 7.1 02-18-11 It's strange that I'm just beginning my training week on a Friday...but sometimes life gets in the way. I suppose I could have ventured over to the gym one night during the week, but I always have this fear that I'll get on the treadmill, run for two or three minutes, and then get paged, meaning that my trip over to the gym was essentially pointless. I know, I know, crazy excuse, especially given that I got called a grand total of ONE time outside of normal working hours!!

In any ... FRIDAY!! I couldn't have been happier to walk the pager and on-call laptop down the hall and hand them off to my office mate. WHEW! I had already heard that local schools would be closed today, for the second day in a row, due to a proposed state “budget” bill which had motivated thousands of teachers to protest on Capital Square. The dreaded pager had been silent all night, and continued to sleep on my hip. After the storm of a busy wo... I was feeling so sick and weak from this mystery (possibly strep...?) illness that I would have barely made it to the end of the block.
