PHATPAT18's SparkPeople Blog PHATPAT18's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community The unofficial end of summer. Labor day, the unofficial end of summer. The pools close, anyone who hasn't started off the new school year yet, will be going back and people start dressing in their long pants and long sleeve shirts. Well, I'm not ready for that. With another week in the 90's, it just doesn't seem like Mother Nature is having any of it either. Look at the calendar people, summer still has another 2 weeks. As some say goodbye to summer, I say, keep it coming Mother Nature.

Pat Mon, 5 Sep 2016 15:41:32 EST Beaches and exercises. I think the best place to exercise is at the beach. Tomorrow starts my 9 day beach vacation where I plan to walk, swim and enjoy myself. 298 Sun, 5 Jun 2016 19:31:56 EST back at last It's been over a year and a half since I have posted a new blog. I don't know why I got away from this, maybe it's watching a 3 year old 5 days a week, ten hours a day. I'm going to conscientiously try to post a blog once a week. Since I posted last, I have a new grandson, bringing the total up to 3. He was born August 21, 2015. Since my daughter has a job as a director at a daycare/preschool, he... It is a golf tournament to benefit needy children and single parents. He asked me to come take some pictures, but I got there too late to get pictures of the golfers. I was put to work cleaning the carts (great exercise) and quickly found out that all the carts were fueled by alcohol. I threw away many half filled coffee cups, but not one single half filled beer can. It was fun to help out. There was plenty of snow still on the grou... Sat, 1 Feb 2014 16:03:57 EST Back from vacation. I have to say the temptation to overeat on vacation is lessened by the temptation to walk the beach and pick up shells and coral. Here are some of the more beautiful pieces picked on the beautiful shores of Pompano Beach, just north of Miami. A lighthouse down the beach, but unfortunately on the other side of the channel was also a favorite walking spot.

<img src=" Fri, 3 Jan 2014 13:47:25 EST Happy Halloween A terrible night for trick or treating, but with the time moved up to 5:30 to 7:00 pm, it was mostly light out for the kids. It was pouring down rain and a strong wind. It will get worse as the night goes on. I had candy for 124 kids but decided to double up. Turns out we needed more candy as about 100 kids showed up. We raided my grandson's candy stash and were able to finish out the night. Here are my 2 favorite trick or treaters Batman, Donovan and Robin, Davis.
I hope everyon... Sun, 25 Aug 2013 12:10:24 EST Dancing baby! My 6 month grandson, Davis, has been going to zumba with me for the past 4 months and in the past was satisfied with sitting in his stroller and watching grandma. Well not any more. He starts out innocent enough, but after a while, he wants to get up and moving. Doing zumba with a 15 pound baby in your arms changes a cardio workout into a strength training routine. Now when you hold him up by his hands and say dance, dance, he lifts his leg and shakes his bottom. Now there's one fit baby... I took her and her husband Jeff to the Hollywood Casino, where we enjoyed some free play. After that I had them follow me to the First Responder's Park in Hilliard, Oh. Tue, 30 Jul 2013 19:28:04 EST Be careful who your friends are. I thought I had made a friend. She seemed interested in me and my family. We worked out together. Our grandkids played together and were in the same kindergarten class. Things changed though. She started putting people down. Trashing them to their faces and talking about them behind their backs. This was not a healthy relationship. Although she appeared to like me, she was lying to my face for over a year. The end to the friendship was necessary. I feel relief, but also a bit of fea... Mon, 29 Jul 2013 22:20:44 EST Ugh! I watched the Nathan's national hotdog competition today from Coney Island. The winner, Joey Chestnut consumed 69 hotdogs and buns in 10 minutes. Fri, 31 May 2013 12:05:00 EST When to walk away. I have a friend. We are neighbors. We started going to Zumba together. Our grandkids play together after school. So why do I want to walk away? She no longer encourages me by going to Zumba. Her idea of a good time is to go out to eat or sit in a lawn chair watching the kids play. I need to be active, I need to limit my meals out. I also need someone to encourage me. I don't need to hear her build up her 35 year old son and degrade her DIL, who lives in the same house. I don't need ... Tue, 9 Apr 2013 09:20:49 EST We did it! I am so surprised, I took my 7 week old GS, Davis, to Zumba. I wasn't sure if he would sleep through the 40 minute class, and he didn't. He woke up half way through and just watched me. He got a little cranky and I picked him up and he danced with me. After one and one half songs, he let me put him back in his carseat. He was watching every move I made. I thought I might have to give up my Monday and Wednesday classes, but I don't because, we did it!

350 Mon, 8 Apr 2013 10:59:46 EST For all of you Leos out there. Today I was reading my horoscope in the newspaper and it was very uplifting, so I thought I would share it with you.

LEO
(July 23-Aug. 22)
Luckily, change doesn't happen instantly. If it did, existence would be chaotic and meaningless. The change you're making is a slow process, and it is going well. You'll see in a few weeks.

Very appropriate! Sat, 6 Apr 2013 11:23:12 EST Here we go again. Well last month after vacation I went to the doctor for pain in my jaw. My Doctor diagnosed an infection and put me on a 10 day prescription (antibiotics). I had lost 4 lbs from my last visit in February and I had just gotten back from a 10 day vacation. I finished up my meds like a good girl and one day after, my pain came back. Unfortunately it was Saturday and I could not get back in to the doctor until today. Well, long story short, another (or maybe the same) infection. This time I ... Mon, 1 Apr 2013 19:59:33 EST Loving the hard work. I had no idea that watching 2 kids all day would be so exhausting. I now watch my 6 week old and 6 year old grandsons while my daughter and SIL are at work. At first I thought I would be having Wednesdays off because my SIL had that day off each week. But the day I started, he also started a new job with long days. Oh well, even though I come home thoroughly exhausted, it is a labor of love. One day, I know my grandsons will appreciate the love they were given during their formative yea... Fri, 29 Mar 2013 17:40:31 EST Optimism finally pays off. I've always kept my head up even when the scale would not budge. I was stuck at 197 for over a month. (Maybe I should just call it maintaining.) Well this morning, low and behold 196! It may not seem like much to some people, but to me, it shows that I can do this and keep at it for as long as it takes.
104 Sun, 24 Mar 2013 10:48:50 EST What a difference a new pair of sneakers can make. I have 2 daughters, one works out all the time but is still heavy. She eats right and is still heavy. She just had a baby by C-section 5 weeks ago and was back in the gym at 4 weeks doing zumba, hip-hop and using the machines. I know she will get back in shape after because she is and has been committed to good health. My second daughter is 23. She just keeps going up and up in weight. At one point she said she did not want to lose weight and did not want to talk about. She was happy w... Sat, 23 Mar 2013 16:11:07 EST Good news I went to the doctors today because I thought I had an infection (which I do) but I was talking to her about my most recent blood sugar tests from a month earlier. Good news, she said I am no longer considered pre-diabetic. I also lost 4 lbs since my last weigh in with her. She has started to refer her patients to Spark People. Yeah!

252 Wed, 20 Mar 2013 17:18:50 EST Was it the beer, the sun or a combination of both? I went in the pool today at our hotel and then went in to change clothes before heading down to the beach. My husband went down to the beach before me. I changed into a new bright pink and white tank top and shorts and headed down. I was on the crossover walk when I found my husband and he saw me. He said that when he saw me come over the crosswalk, he though it was a young spring breaker. So I have to ask, do you think it was the beer, the sun or a really great husband? Sat, 16 Mar 2013 21:10:52 EST Getting better The weather here in sunny Florida is improving and so have my steps. 12,000 today between souvenir shopping and beach walking. Yeah! Fri, 15 Mar 2013 19:49:00 EST Easy Steps It is so much easier getting in your steps when you are walking on the beach. You don't have the same pressure on your knees when the surface you are walking on gives a little. Walking on pavement always does me in. I got in over 10,000 steps today. 47 Tue, 12 Mar 2013 19:45:22 EST Buying new jeans. I'm not a size 4, heck, I'm not even a size 14, but I was a size 24 last year. Today I bought a nice pair of size 18's. For me, that is a success. 9 Fri, 8 Mar 2013 14:14:13 EST My glass is always half full. Some may think that being stuck at the same weight for 5 straight weeks is a reason to get down, but I am not. I am so blessed.
I have a new grandson born on Valentine's day.
I have a six year old grandson that is my little man. He's bright and outgoing and does well in Kindergarten.
My 2 daughters live within 5 miles of me.
My husband loves me very much.
I don't weigh 240 like I did last April.
I am going on a vacation next week.
I got great test results ... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 17:53:38 EST New Baby The new baby was born today. For those of you that follow me on Sparks, Baby Davis Nathaniel was born today at around 1:15pm. He is 8 lbs. 7 oz. He has dark black hair is 19 inches long and has great lungs. LOL We'll be back to see him later this evening. Thu, 14 Feb 2013 16:16:32 EST Lucky me! My husband usually gets up around 10:00 am. This morning I got up at 5:30 am because I could not sleep. My daughter is having a C-section tomorrow and I will be a second time grandma. I went to Zumba this morning and class starts at 9:15. While I was gone, my husband got up early and went out and got me roses for Valentines Day. He said it was the only time he could sneak out and get them to suprise me. I am so blessed to have a new baby coming, a great husband and many, many Spark Frie... Wed, 13 Feb 2013 11:18:11 EST Good news I went to Zumba class this morning. I usually go on Monday and Wednesday mornings. They announced this morning that they will be having a third class on Thursday evenings at 5:30. This class will also be 15 minutes longer. Zumba is my favorite excercise and I may be able to make some new friends in the new class. Hooray!
355 Wed, 30 Jan 2013 11:12:26 EST I reached level 15 today. I try to log in everyday and try to get at least 100 Spark Points each day. I have been on sparks since last April, so to have over 30,000 points in less than 10 months, I feel is a worthy accomplishment. I am so happy I have been introduced to Spark People and I love all of my new Spark buddies. 252 458 Mon, 21 Jan 2013 19:15:48 EST A dedication to a very special lady. Today my MIL would have turned 100 if she had not passed almost 3 years ago from a fall. What I would say to her today if she were still here is this. I am proud of the woman that you are. I am special to you and you let me know it. There is such a thing as eating chocolate in moderation as you prove by taking one or 2 bites of your favorite food each day and then putting it away. Sat, 19 Jan 2013 11:48:05 EST TGIF You may think it's crazy for a retired person to look forward to the weekend, but I really do. I have my energy filled 6 year old grandson that stays with me while his parents work. He wants to be active all day and has outgrown naps. He is in AM kindergarten and that is when I get things done. So when he gets picked up after work on Friday, I am ready for the break. So TGIF! Wishing everyone a restful weekend. Something was very different when I woke up this morning. What could it be? The air felt fresher, inhale, exhale, yes something different this morning. I was able to jump out of bed quickly, what could it be? Christmas is still a week away. Why did my eyes twinkle? Why was my smile wider? Oh, what could be different? Did all my hard work pay off? Tue, 11 Dec 2012 18:09:40 EST Warm hands, warm heart. I take my grandson to the bus stop every school day. He is 6 and in kindergarten. This morning it was 26 degrees with the windchill in the teens. There are two girls at the bus stop. One is in 3rd grade, one in 5th. From what I have observed over the past few months is that the girls are both poor and shy. One girl came to the bus stop on a cold morning with medical gloves on and the other with no gloves on. They rarely speak to me and another grandma at the bus, and today was no excep...
