The various challenges were fun and well thought-out. However, I didn't make much progress; in fact, I went backwards in some respects!

220 The best thing about BLC25 was my team. I feel at home with the Amber Amazon Warriors, but this time around, they really made me feel loved and supported when I needed it the most. It was humbling and very touching.

362 I did complete one excellent NSV ... I... This is something the local residents have wanted for a very long time. About 18 months ago, Hy-Vee purchased space that used to be occupied by a K-Mart. The new store opened on Tuesday. I've been there three times already. (It's not even half a mile from my office, so I walk there.)

This is what I had for lunch today.

... This is the second time I've been on here, but it's a great accomplishment nonetheless! 503

For our BLC weekend challenge, I needed to post a blog discussing how I plan to get back on target when I face a challenge in my healthy lifestyle. One thing I've learned about myself is my "all or nothing" mentality.

Rather than getting back on the healthy train immediately after a derailment, I decide to blow off the ... Mon, 12 May 2014 16:59:26 EST Day 352: Measurements http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5690148 Weight isn't always the best indicator of health! So I had my husband take my measurements. This should be a relatively easy goal because all it requires is me spending a little time on the computer! I am trying to be realistic. I know this isn't going to happen immediately because I'm lazy.

So I am going to hold myself accountable by blogging every Wednesday (which starts each new week of the BLC). I will let ever... Mon, 5 May 2014 22:39:20 EST Day 345: BLC25 begins today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5683925 This is my fourth round in the BLC, and I'm so excited to be back with the Amber Amazon Warriors! I'm looking forward to all of the camaraderie with my teammates, making new friends, and progressing toward my goals!

Stepping on the scale today was not good. 225 I suspect part of it is TOM, but most of it is me. I've been really sick for three weeks (it's now bronchitis), and my eating and exercise have gone by the wayside. I've been lazy and bored.

So I ... Wed, 30 Apr 2014 10:53:11 EST Day 311: A blog worth reading http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5657851 This article was particularly heartbreaking, but for anybody who has ever had self-esteem issues, it really is worth reading.

www.rookiemag.com/2014/03/out-of-bod
y/

While I only have a son, I will take what I read in this article and apply it to his life. Thu, 27 Mar 2014 13:16:48 EST Day 290: Constantly tweaking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5641322 No, not twerking ... 246 ... tweaking!

As in, tweaking my plan. Tweaking my food. Tweaking my fitness. Trying to make it all work for me.

The past weekend has been difficult. Nothing is wrong, but I feel blah and unmotivated. I think it's a combination of, ahem, being a woman and this never-ending winter that we seem to be having. From Friday to yesterday, I sort of gave up. I did my yoga on Tuesday, but it didn't help and I hated every minute of it. ... Thu, 6 Mar 2014 11:37:16 EST Day 280: SMART Goals Revisited http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5632561 For the weekend BLC challenge, we need to review our SMART goals and, if necessary, revise them. I reread my goals and they definitely need some revisions! Here goes:

190 "I will track all of my food 6 days a week for the next 12 weeks."

I'm sticking with this goal. There's no reason NOT to do this goal. It will definitely help me in the long run!

363 "I will work out at least 5 times per week, 20 minutes minimum, for the next 12 we... Mon, 24 Feb 2014 13:27:32 EST Day 273: Love Letter http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5626775 Dear Me,

In honor of American Heart Month, let's talk about yourself. You are a wonderful person. Really, you are. I know you don't always see it, and you're often hard on yourself, but you're great! Look at all of your accomplishments. High school education, college education, a good job, a wonderful family, a loving husband, and an amazing son. Remember when you said you would never get married and have children? Fooled you!

Yes, things are challenging. But tha... Mon, 17 Feb 2014 20:17:21 EST Day 245: BLC24 SMART Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5599862 Yay for BLC24! This round, I'm an Amber Amazon Warrior. Over the break, I gained 2 pounds. Not bad - but I completely ignored the plan I had written out on Day 210.

So now it's time to get serious. I feel like I've got a good plan in place for this round.

190 I will track all of my food 6 days a week for the next 12 weeks. I'm not intending for the 7th day to be a cheat day, but with Super Bowl Sunday, my son's birthday party, the start of the Walking De... Mon, 20 Jan 2014 09:56:05 EST Day 210: Staying on track during the holidays http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5565627 Oops - it's been a long time since my last blog!

The holidays are probably the hardest time for me, as I'm sure they are for most people. And BLC23 ends this week, so I'm going to be flying solo until the next round.

So how should I stay on track? Here are my plans:

362 Exercise! I've found that my body really likes exercise and when I do it, the number on the scale drops. I've dusted off my Wii and am working on the 45 day challenge with EA Sp... Mon, 16 Dec 2013 11:45:57 EST Day 175: An experiment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5538171 Whoops, it's been a little too long since the last blog post!

My struggles continue, so while I know it is not the best idea, it is the only idea I have at the moment. I am not going to track my food. This obviously will not help with weight loss, but I think it will help with stress. I stopped in the middle of last week, and it has helped a little. At least I don't log my food, see the numbers exceeding my range, and feel bad about myself.

I am still measuring thing... Mon, 11 Nov 2013 10:55:04 EST Day 156: It's a struggle with limited support http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5521411 It's been a while since I've blogged, and it's just further proof of my fizzling motivation. I'm not entirely sure how to get out of this funk; finding the little nugget of inspiration has been difficult.

My eating has been somewhat out of control. I still measure things out, but I don't track them - then I'll eat a bunch of mini candy bars. So weird for me. I'm actually good at eating just one or two, but eight? Something feels off inside my body. At first I thought it was m... Wed, 23 Oct 2013 14:43:54 EST Day 140: Why do it at all? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5507219 The BLC weekend challenge asked us to blog about our journey. Most people have been focusing on why they are on it.

That used to be a hard question. Truthfully. Most women have very low self-esteem; I think being assaulted by thousands of airbrushed images of perfection makes that really easy. For the first 20 years of my life or so, I had really low self-esteem. I was terribly shy and uncomfortable around people my age (I moved around a lot growing up, so I was always the new... Mon, 7 Oct 2013 17:16:08 EST Day 135: One week down! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5502334 My first BLC week ROCKED! I lost 1.8 pounds (putting me back to what I weighed at the end of last round), I tracked all my food and stayed in range, AND I got in 398 fitness minutes! My friend kicks my butt into gear, that's for sure!

Keep up this momentum for the full 12 weeks, and I'll meet my goal!

244 Wed, 2 Oct 2013 10:08:45 EST Day 128: BLC23 - The Beginning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5496338 It's that time again! BLC23 begins today!
9
Once again, I am a Mighty Mocha Hunter. Excellent! The fun part about this round is that my co-worker also signed up and is on another team. So neither of us have to go it alone, we both have similar "requirements" for our teams, and we can push each other! Plus we see each other every weekday, walk together at lunch, and get to have fun girl talks :)

Anyway, here are my before photos for this round:

... Wed, 25 Sep 2013 22:09:14 EST Day 112: Tracking successfully ... or not http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5480508 Lately, I have fallen off the tracking wagon, and it all boils down to laziness. "That item isn't in my tracker; I don't feel like looking up stats." Or "That restaurant doesn't have nutritional information, so I won't be tracking this meal." For a couple of the days I didn't track, I still feel like I ate well, measured out portions, and didn't go crazy. But for the last two days ... whoo boy. The scale has not been kind, but I haven't been kind either!

So today I'll be back ... Mon, 9 Sep 2013 11:37:51 EST Day 105: BLC22 Cumulative Standings http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5474024 The results have been posted for all 12 weeks of BLC22. I was really excited to see how I did because I know I worked really hard!

Cumulatively, I placed 1st out of our team, the Mighty Mocha Hunters. Yay!

Overall, among all teams, I played 25th out of 577! That's awesome and I'm really excited about that!

Just to give you an idea of how amazing the BLC is, out of those 577 people, we lost a total of 2,831.12 pounds! A round of applause to everyone who par... Mon, 2 Sep 2013 22:35:17 EST Day 100: BLC22 Final Results ... Pictures! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5469270 How fitting that this blog entry falls on Day 100 of my journey!

I found the same clothes I wore in the beginning photos on Day 8, put them back on, and had my husband take some pictures. DEFINITE. VISUAL. SUCCESS.

And once again, I was without measuring tape (my son stole it and who knows where it is now), so I h... Sometimes I get a little tired of the same old routine. I will get in a food rut and then get tired of it, sending me to the nearest fast food place to replace my meal. I like to walk and bike, but I feel like I have to take my ... Fri, 23 Aug 2013 14:48:28 EST Day 94: Fitness test ... revisited! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5463516 I can't believe we're at the end of this round of BLC! Here we go:

Pushups
-- 6/6: 23 (wall)
-- 8/22: 29 (wall)
Crunches
-- 6/6: 29
-- 8/22: 33
Lunges
-- 6/6: 0 (plantar fasciitis)
-- 8/22: 14 (7 per leg)
Bicep curls
-- 6/6: 51 (no weight but holding a plastic golf club)
-- 8/22: 41 (holding 15 oz cans of beans!)
Squats
-- 6/6: 26 <B... Thu, 22 Aug 2013 22:09:27 EST Day 92: Getting back on track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5461451 My husband and I took a weekend trip to Chicago, which means I also took a weekend trip from healthy eating. I don't feel that I ate to excess during the trip, but restaurant food is full of calories and fat, so I definitely wasn't eating well.

Now it's Tuesday, and I'm still trying to get back on the wagon.

I will prevail because I am determined, but it's definitely a challenge! I keep craving junk. It'll take some time for that trigger to die out, but I hope for soo... Tue, 20 Aug 2013 21:56:02 EST Day 78: Sciatica update ... and some craziness! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5446395 Bummer news first

406

I got a referral to ortho, and it turns out I have a herniated disc between L5 and S1. This is the cause of all my sciatic pain. They are going to schedule me for an MRI to see which nerve is impinged (L5 or S1 - she thinks S1 but it could be both based on my symptoms). The chances of this going away on its own is 80-90%. I'm closer to the 80% because of my prior sciatica history (during pregnancy), but they treat this based on my s... Tue, 6 Aug 2013 11:51:09 EST Day 73: Karma. Definitely karma. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5441178 I took an unplanned vacation day today since my mother is ill (she is my son's caretaker while my husband and I are at work), so my son and I paid the mortgage and picked up a couple of essentials from the store.

There is a Wendy's nearby. I haven't had fast food in a while. A thick, juicy chicken sandwich sounded pretty good, so into the drive-through I went.

And got rear ended.

No worries - my son and I are fine, the lady felt absolutely terrible, and the ... Thu, 1 Aug 2013 14:23:35 EST Day 67: Switching nutrition gears http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5434124 If you've read my blogs before, you know I've been suffering from a host of stupid physical ailments that annoy me more than anything. They're not serious - and they could certainly be worse - but they are painful and irritating and standing in the way between me and my end goals.

Today I had another chiropractic appointment (I go three times a week - it truly does help, and I'd be in better shape if I hadn't inflamed my sciatica last week). The doctor suggested I limit or elimin... Fri, 26 Jul 2013 10:35:40 EST Day 58: 20 pounds down! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5424155 104 7 192 244

How exciting! 20 pounds in 58 days. It's a little bit more than I was trying to lose, but I guess my body wants to get rid of the extra pounds!

I still have a ways to go, but this was a great surprise for me today! Wed, 17 Jul 2013 11:54:16 EST Day 51: Lost my streak :( http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5416045 Ugh, I am SO disappointed in myself right now! I was participating in a 12 week streak for BLC, where you exercise 5 days a week for at least 20 minutes. I thought I worked out last Wednesday. I didn't. My streak is dead. I only worked out 4 days this week (but 213 minutes worth).

39

Had I not been so extremely exhausted over the weekend, I would have gotten some biking in on Sunday with my husband and son, but I couldn't keep my eyes open so I went bac... Tue, 9 Jul 2013 22:13:32 EST Day 45: These physical ailments are driving me nuts! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5409459 2013 has not been a good year in terms of pain! In May, I wrenched my back doing absolutely nothing (which made it all the more frustrating) and was in pain for two weeks. Almost immediately after that pain went away, I developed plantar fasciitis for a month. When that dissipated, my sciatica came back; it first reared its ugly head while I was pregnant. And now last night I broke my toe!

198

Seriously, body, stop rebelling against me!

But NO... Wed, 3 Jul 2013 09:44:05 EST Day 39: Progress! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5403412 My husband and I are both watching what we eat, tracking, exercising, etc. Combined, we are trying to lose something like 170 pounds. Yikes! That's a whole person!

9

I managed to lose 4 pounds this week, which was surprising to me because I ate terribly and it's that special time of the month that we women enjoy. It makes me wonder if next week is going to be a gain.

So out of our 170 pounds to lose, we have lost 23 pounds: 13 for me and 10 fo... Thu, 27 Jun 2013 10:36:30 EST Day 36: The No-Tracking Weekend http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5399997 As it usually goes every weekend in the summer, this past weekend was really busy. Friday night, we went to a trivia night (got third place!). Saturday was my brother-in-law's birthday party. Sunday was game night.

Each day was full of unhealthy foods. And I indulged in them all. I ignored my tracker because I didn't know what was in half of what I ate, and I just ... ate. Not to excess, mind you, but none of it was healthy or nutritious so even a minimal amount of food would... Mon, 24 Jun 2013 09:39:38 EST Day 33: And the diagnosis is... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5397358 I had my podiatry appointment today, almost a month after my sudden onset of heel pain. The diagnosis is what I ultimately suspected: plantar fasciitis. I got a cortisone injection and some exercises to perform three times a day, and I'll go back in a month.

I'm actually pretty happy with this. (Especially the fact that, including driving time, I only lost 1 hour from work. Efficiency!) It's not something that is going to necessarily affect me for the rest of my life. I can r... Fri, 21 Jun 2013 12:33:59 EST Day 31: It's date night! Time to really plan my meals. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5395242 A few months ago, my husband and I decided to have a date night each month, where our son stays with my mom and we can relax and destress without a screaming toddler nearby. We've only gotten to do it once because last month my in-laws were in town, but that's okay.

Tonight we are going to Texas Roadhouse. For those not familiar, it's a chain steakhouse that refuses to provide nutritional information. Their excuse is that everybody cooks differently, ingredients are different, b... Wed, 19 Jun 2013 13:13:59 EST Day 26: Grocery List of Kitchen Staples http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5389139 How fortuitous! Two days ago, I blog about how I want to organize the kitchen, and part of this weekend's BLC challenge is to come up with a list of staples for my kitchen!

So here is my list of things I like to keep around the house so that I can have some decent food if I'm hungry!

- Laughing Cow cheese spreads, especially the cream cheeses (strawberry or cinnamon)!
- whole wheat bread
- whole wheat pasta
- 90% lean beef (if we buy beef, we always get t... Fri, 14 Jun 2013 13:58:54 EST Day 24: Ready for a kitchen makeover! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5386836 I am really excited to go grocery shopping and buy healthier options to what I already own - like cheese. I love cheese! I do not love the calories in cheese.

My husband is on board and supportive, as he always is. But he doesn't want to throw out food that we have (understandable). I am going to see if my relatives want my cheese.

My get-healthy makeover has extended into my house. I really, really want to clean and organize and declutter. I am the clutter queen, ... Wed, 12 Jun 2013 10:51:59 EST Day 22: S.M.A.R.T. Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5384414 For BLC22, we need to list our S.M.A.R.T. goals for this 12 week challenge.

1. Lose 20 pounds by the end of the challenge (8/28/13).

2. Fit into one size smaller by the end of the challenge (8/28/13). This means to fit into the clothing in my closet which is one size smaller than what I am wearing currently.

3. Log every BLT 6/7 days a week and do not exceed my maximum calorie range more than twice a week!

4. Be a 12 Week Streaker! (20 minutes of ... Mon, 10 Jun 2013 11:06:36 EST Day 18: Fitness test http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5380836 85 BLC22 Fitness Test! 85

Pushups: 23 (wall)
Crunches: 29
Lunges: 0 (my heel was hurting too much after everything else)
Bicep curls: 51 (no weight but holding a plastic golf club, lol)
Squats: 26

I figured I'd save these here so I could remember them and see how far I come. I want to do modified floor pushups (on my knees) and use some weight with curls, but this is what I was able to do today with my bum heel and my out of sha... Thu, 6 Jun 2013 22:34:35 EST Day 17: Finally got to exercise! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5379549 332 332 332

We went for a bike ride after dinner tonight, and the worst part was my butt when I was done! 246 Despite it being a slow ride, we went for 24 minutes around the neighborhood. My husband pulled our son in a bike trailer. It was a nice evening, and I felt SO much better about everything afterward.

I will be getting a podiatry referral for my foot. It actually feels better today than it has since the pain sta... Wed, 5 Jun 2013 20:39:27 EST Day 15: Let's do this! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5376842 I am really excited to participate in BLC22! I am going to be on the Mighty Mocha Hunters team. 224 I also signed up for the 12 Week Streak, which means I need to get in 20 minutes of exercise 5x a week for the whole challenge! I know I can do it on a normal day, but with my heel still bothering me, I'm going to have to be creative.

I am going to see my doctor tomorrow, so hopefully he'll have some words of wisdom for me. The pain is still terrible when I get up f... Mon, 3 Jun 2013 13:59:43 EST Day 12: Tasty Food! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5373745 Lean Cuisine has a new item in the freezer section called Salad Additions. It's basically a salad in a box, minus the lettuce (you provide that). Microwave it and voila - your very own salad.

I had the Asian-Style Chicken, and it's pretty tasty. The box is 260 calories for everything, and when you add a heaping pile of lettuce to it, you've got a pretty healthy veggie-fied meal to enjoy. I am not a fan of hot toppings on a cold salad, but I went for it anyway. Glad I did!
... Fri, 31 May 2013 14:17:15 EST Day 10: Skipping Meals and the Temporary Pain Solution http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5371513 Good and bad, I have been faithfully tracking my food. Due to napping (no lie - I nap more than my son!), I have inadvertently skipped a few meals. Only one time did I end up below my calorie range; mostly I've been - ahem - making up the difference. That won't last forever!

I am quite pleased with how easy it was for me to get back into this. I don't feel hungry or deprived. It's been working out for me. The structure is helpful too. It does, however, take up a LOT of time ... Wed, 29 May 2013 13:02:05 EST BLC22: The Beginning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5369799 Time for the before photos! I even pulled my hair back so I can see facial comparisons, whoo hoo.

It's interesting to see these photos because that is NOT what I see when I look in the mirror. I have incredible self-esteem, which is a good thing and a bad thing.

Measurements:

Chest: 52" (bust line)
Wai... Mon, 27 May 2013 22:26:13 EST
