As my husband says about most of my kitchen creations, "This is a repeat!"

This morning, I put a whole chicken in the crockpot and sprinkled it with a package of dry Italian dressing mix. Tonight, I threw some some frozen vegetables (the mix I had on hand was carrots, corn, peas, and green beans) in a bowl, poured in some of the chicken broth from the crockpot, and used the breast meat of the chicken for a really good soup creation. There was a death in the family and yesterday I had to have my 15-year-old cat put to sleep.

Somehow all the stress hasn't showed on the scale, so I am thankful for that.

I'm back on track. I usually run Mon Wed Fri, but Monday I had a terrible headache and this week has turned into a Tue Thurs Sat schedule. So, today I must run.

I've signed up for a 5k on April 20th. I had to walk for one minute in the middle of this 25-minute run. I had a pain in my side that just wouldn't stop. Walking for just one minute made it go away. So, I guess I had two 12-minute runs...I will try again on Wednesday. Maybe I'm still recovering from my wild weekend. I will eat a little better before the next run. Wish me luck! Mon, 18 Feb 2013 22:37:06 EST Fun Weekend and a not much of a gain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5254489 I had a blast this weekend! A friend and I went to see The Who in concert in a nearby city. They still put on an AWESOME show:) The Who is always a great band, but I fell head over heels in love with the opening act, Vintage Trouble. Here's a beautiful song of theirs if you want to listen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pDr7cQgT
Hk

That's a slower paced song I heard at the concert. Mon, 18 Feb 2013 08:23:31 EST update on running http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5249743 I haven't had a lot of time to blog lately, so I thought I would do a short update tonight. The Couch to 5k program is going great! I will finish week 7 on Friday night. I thought I had 2 more weeks to go, but it's just one! Tonight's 20-minute run went great! I'm not looking at the clock counting down quite so much, and I didn't have that pain in my side. I may not run the full 5k distance upon graduation (graduation being accomplishing 30 minutes of running, all at once), since I jog ... It was an 8-minute jog, 2-minute walk, and then a 10-minute jog. All day I kept thinking, "I don't know if I can do it...what if I fail? I'll have to repeat a week..." All that STINKIN' THINKIN', but when it came down to it, I DID IT...and it wasn't really a struggle.

I did it....I'm feeling more confident about finishing this program!

I'm amazed....I really am. 315 Fri, 1 Feb 2013 22:47:53 EST running, water, and healthy eating http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5227867 As I'm progressing through the weeks in the Couch to 5K program, I've found that drinking lots of water (I try for 8 8-ounce glasses a day) and eating good healthy food really does make the running easier. I think that's the reason I failed the program 3 times before. I wasn't changing my eating habits. I was still drinking a can of Coke for breakfast, along with whatever looked good in the snack machine...I thought the running would undo the bad food. NOT SO! No wonder I failed! You ha... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 21:55:59 EST C25K Week 4 DONE! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5223727 I did it! I'm halfway through the Couch to 5K program! (that's what the iPhone app tells me, anyway) I did look at the clock counting down during the run portions, quite a few times, I admit....but I finished!

I still don't know what that "Runner's High" is....maybe I have it now, since it feels REALLY good to have accomplished it. Fri, 25 Jan 2013 22:27:13 EST Nervous about tomorrow's C25K fun. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5222345 Yes, I'm a little nervous about the run tomorrow. It requires a 6-minute run. About a year ago, I actually ran a whole mile at once....it took me over 14 minutes, but I did it. So...I know I can do it again. Just a little nervous.

I'll eat good food and drink lots of water that day and do the run in the early evening.

I want it to go well, but I understand that I may have to repeat a week to condition myself.

Next week has a 10-minute run! Thu, 24 Jan 2013 22:45:57 EST W4D1 of C25K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5217651 I just finished Week 4, Day 1 on the Couch to 5K program. Not too bad....the 5-minute run was a little difficult, but I did it.

Thanks for all the recommendations on TV shows (see my previous blog)! I went with "How I Met Your Mother". I decided a comedy was the right route for me, AND it's a half hour show, which fits the running program well. I walked a little more and almost finished a second episode. I like it so far. I've always liked Neil Patrick Harris:) Mon, 21 Jan 2013 21:03:24 EST TV shows? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5216938 I don't watch a lot of current TV...I usually watch TV shows later thru netflix DVDs and streaming. Due to poor planning, I don't have a movie to watch while I do my Couch to 5K program on the treadmill. So, I'm going to move my Roku player to the treadmill TV and find something there. Anyone want to recommend a TV show that is streaming on netflix right now? There just isn't enough time in the day to get things done. I did Week 3, Day 2 on the C25K program. It went really well. The jogging portions are 2-minute and 3-minute jogs. Next week bumps up to 4- and 5-minute jogs, and a 6-minute jog on the last day of the week. At that point, I will be halfway to my goal. (Or so the training app on my phone says.) I'm staying on schedule so far, I haven't had to repeat a week. I'm fine with the idea of having to ... A 35-minute walk was all I had in me....I've been so tired the last few days. I'm almost finished with my water goal for the day. A short leg/squat workout (it's amazing how a 5 minute workout can do so much for a muscle group) and a short pilates workout before bed, and I feel successful about today. Fri, 7 Sep 2012 22:07:39 EST Back to it:) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5047749 I had to get back to it today. I think I'll do some pilates before bed and I will feel really positive about today. It was easy. I didn't expect that after going nearly a week with no exercise. Why is it that some days are easy and some are tough? Maybe diet, weather, mood? Whatever it is, I did it right today. Fri, 17 Aug 2012 22:10:18 EST a not-so-good weight loss http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5016960 Nothing like a little food poisoning to 'help' you lose 4 pounds! Wed, 25 Jul 2012 06:47:05 EST Squats are easier now! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4983632 Big moment yesterday! I was putting myself down, just a bit, for not doing the squats I used to do rather regularly. So...I did 2 sets. And THEY WERE EASY! Before, they always left me a little winded and I would feel the burn after only a few. I guess, after all the bicycling I've done, I have better muscles now. I feel like I can step it up and do more, maybe work some dumbbells into it...and add more lunges. I love seeing and feeling results. They're such great motivators. I also managed to drink 64 ounces of water. I'm not sure if 8 8-ounce glasses is right for me, but I'll do it for the 5 SparkPoints:) It helped that it was a hot day and I had to work in it, somewhat.

Maybe that scale will move. It's been +5 or so lately. I think I have gained some muscle from the walking/biking/running, but not 5 pounds worth. Tue, 17 Jul 2012 20:47:09 EST I may have a biking friend! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4975090 I hope so! Somewhere in the conversation, I mentioned I was having a few cramps. He surprised me and brought me home a treat from Starbucks. He knows cold things help my stomach feel better. I can bike to the library, the nearest Redbox machine, several restaurants, and search for books at Goodwill. A little Pandora radio station of my favorite music, and I can go for miles. I just wanted to write it down somewhere that I felt pretty confident in my teeny-bikini:)

250 224 243 Fri, 8 Jul 2011 23:47:02 EST Week 1 is Done! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4336448 Week One is Done, I like how that rhymes. I finished the first week of C25K tonight. I hope next week goes as well. I feel like I've accomplished something:)
208 Sat, 2 Jul 2011 00:11:19 EST Running! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4333665 I've decided that I WILL become a runner. I started the C25K program, and last night I completed W1D2. It went really well. I'm hoping to be a solid runner by the end of summer. Wish me luck!
Thu, 30 Jun 2011 19:12:23 EST No more soda... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4191511 Yesterday I did not drink a soda. I didn't even miss it. I hope to continue on...the habit of ordering them with a meal is the hardest thing to break. I'm going out to dinner tonight and will not order one:) Tue, 26 Apr 2011 10:58:43 EST
