Tonight, I threw some some frozen vegetables (the mix I had on hand was carrots, corn, peas, and green beans) in a bowl, poured in some of the chicken broth from the crockpot, and used the breast meat of the chicken for a really good soup creation. I had to walk for one minute in the middle of this 25-minute run. I had a pain in my side that just wouldn't stop. Walking for just one minute made it go away. So, I guess I had two 12-minute runs...I will try again on Wednesday. Maybe I'm still recovering from my wild weekend. I will eat a little better before the next run. Wish me luck! They still put on an AWESOME show:) The Who is always a great band, but I fell head over heels in love with the opening act, Vintage Trouble. I think the lead singer burned about 25,00... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 08:23:31 EST update on running I haven't had a lot of time to blog lately, so I thought I would do a short update tonight. The Couch to 5k program is going great! I will finish week 7 on Friday night. I thought I had 2 more weeks to go, but it's just one! Tonight's 20-minute run went great! I'm not looking at the clock counting down quite so much, and I didn't have that pain in my side. I may not run the full 5k distance upon graduation (graduation being accomplishing 30 minutes of running, all at once), since I jog ... Wed, 13 Feb 2013 23:03:38 EST C25K, Confidence and Amazement I can't believe what I just did....I finished Week 5 of the C25K program! It was an 8-minute jog, 2-minute walk, and then a 10-minute jog. All day I kept thinking, "I don't know if I can do it...what if I fail? I'll have to repeat a week..." All that STINKIN' THINKIN', but when it came down to it, I DID IT...and it wasn't really a struggle. <BR> <BR> I did it....I'm feeling more confident about finishing this program! <BR> <BR> I'm amazed....I really am. <em>315</em> Fri, 1 Feb 2013 22:47:53 EST running, water, and healthy eating As I'm progressing through the weeks in the Couch to 5K program, I've found that drinking lots of water (I try for 8 8-ounce glasses a day) and eating good healthy food really does make the running easier. I think that's the reason I failed the program 3 times before. I wasn't changing my eating habits. I was still drinking a can of Coke for breakfast, along with whatever looked good in the snack machine...I thought the running would undo the bad food. NOT SO! No wonder I failed! You ha... About a year ago, I actually ran a whole mile at took me over 14 minutes, but I did it. So...I know I can do it again. I decided a comedy was the right route for me, AND it's a half hour show, which fits the running program well. I walked a little more and almost finished a second episode. I like it so far. Due to poor planning, I don't have a movie to watch while I do my Couch to 5K program on the treadmill. So, I'm going to move my Roku player to the treadmill TV and find something there. Mon, 21 Jan 2013 11:32:43 EST C25k Week 3, Day 2 Things have been so busy lately. There just isn't enough time in the day to get things done. I did Week 3, Day 2 on the C25K program. It went really well. The jogging portions are 2-minute and 3-minute jogs. Next week bumps up to 4- and 5-minute jogs, and a 6-minute jog on the last day of the week. It's still pretty easy, and I want to advance on, but I have to let my body get used to the program and follow the program the way it is recommended. Fri, 4 Jan 2013 22:26:53 EST Re-setting some goals In just a few minutes, I am re-starting my running program. I've re-started so many times, but I really want it to stick this time. I'll be doing the Couch to 5K program. I may have to repeat weeks, but as long as I stick with it, that's okay. <BR> The chin-up bar is assembled and installed. I lifted myself upward about 1 inch! A 35-minute walk was all I had in me....I've been so tired the last few days. I'm almost finished with my water goal for the day. Big moment yesterday! I was putting myself down, just a bit, for not doing the squats I used to do rather regularly. So...I did 2 sets. And THEY WERE EASY! Before, they always left me a little winded and I would feel the burn after only a few. I guess, after all the bicycling I've done, I have better muscles now. I feel like I can step it up and do more, maybe work some dumbbells into it...and add more lunges. I love seeing and feeling results. They're such great motivators. It's nothing fancy...just a run of the mill 15-speed K-Mart special I received for Christmas several years ago. I added a basket, and it's so handy. I can bike to the library, the nearest Redbox machine, several restaurants, and search for books at Goodwill. A little Pandora radio station of my favorite music, and I can go for miles.
