PENNYD's SparkPeople Blog PENNYD's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Feeling defeated So now I weigh 166 pounds and dr is concerned :(. I have 0 will power but I am not happy with me. I need to buckle down, find some self control somewhere, and avoid the sabotage I feel comes at me here.

I want to lose a little of this weight soon and I am putting a goal of 16 pounds lost by December. I can do it if I develop a backbone of some sort.

It is not just me here but seriously I think I am my own worst enemy. Tue, 10 May 2016 10:45:21 EST Trying I keep trying, or I keep thinking of trying. Long winter here and we have been so cooped up. I am eating too much and doing nothing. Putting weight on and I say I give up it doesn't matter but it does. I am becoming unhealthy. I do not feel good about myself. I am a failure.

I will try again. Fri, 27 Feb 2015 12:33:14 EST dr doctor today; we will see how much i actually weigh today :(
Thu, 25 Apr 2013 08:10:58 EST Shaky start I guess I didn't do too bad yesterday but I ate the meals and then entered for calculation after as yesterday was busy. I took in way too much fat but calories were not too bad. It was the extra little bit of ground beef minute steak that threw me over. Fri, 29 Mar 2013 08:36:15 EST Here we go..... My last blog entry was in November of 2009. I have fallen back way too much and I am now 151 pounds :( HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

I am finding myself again trying to lose weight and be healthier; not just for me but also for my husband who was told by the doctor to lose weight and get more iron as he is anemic ;(....

this is so hard to do again; I should have kept the good eating habits I had developed before.
Thu, 28 Mar 2013 08:45:18 EST Getting it all together..... Well it has taken some time but I have entered meal plans into the groupings section. The first problem I ran into was this:

In order to add my own recipes and ones I had saved from others to use, I had to enter each of their values into the Enter Manually section. That took considerable time and the only draw back is that I can't access the recipe from the nutrition page. I saved all in my Mastercook program so I can get to the recipes easily enough.

Now, the bulk of t... Sun, 15 Nov 2009 13:02:06 EST Just like Guilardi...... Here I go again. My goal weight was a wisp of the wind. Here today; gone tomorrow. I retired. I have been eating anything and almost everything nonstop it seems. I'm back to 140. My blood pressure 139/102.

I feel bad.
I feel like a blimp.
I feel like a failure.
I am unhealthy at this point.

Good side: I am remotivated. I have the tools I need. I am going to do better.

I kept a log of about 50 days worth of meal plans and I am working on a new ... Sun, 8 Nov 2009 07:56:10 EST Just like Gillardi...... here we go again.

I have gained six pounds----Yes, that is right; 6 POUNDS!

I think it is time to start journaling again. I hope I have the emotional stamina for it. It is like an illness that has to be kept in check all the time. Wed, 29 Jul 2009 11:01:54 EST I.... gained a pound but I think some of it is salt retention. I have eaten too many salty foods this week. And, entirely too much beef. Fri, 10 Jul 2009 08:02:31 EST Now comes.... the hard part: maintenance. I'm going to try to maintain without journaling (I know, not a smart idea). I want to see if I can make the right choices on a daily basis without recording. I am a firm believer of journaling but I think I have learned enough through the years of this battle to eat "right". I am armed with loads of wonderful recipes and the desire to stay "thin". I am planning to weigh in weekly so that I don't just wake up some morning with all the weight gained back.
<B... Sun, 5 Jul 2009 10:05:23 EST Lookin good... I'm calling in my final weigh today and tonight I will change my ticker. I gotta say I'm happy to see the end of the family challenge. I am also planning to maintain so my personal after diet challenge battle goes on. 32

Happy 4th everyone and eat healthy. It's all about food economics. Decide what you really really want to eat today and what you can live without. Yesterday I had to make that decision (our party was yesterday). I chose to eat macaroni salad and forego t... Sat, 4 Jul 2009 08:46:23 EST Back on track. I think part of my problem with regaining is salt retention which I have resolved.

Where is everyone these days? Wed, 1 Jul 2009 08:22:03 EST Well..... I had quite a "food" vacation this week. I let up for a few days and now I have gained 2 (TWO) pounds 2

I'm gonna have to get back on track and this underscores the idea of journaling and eating right for maintenance. Fri, 26 Jun 2009 06:51:31 EST Hubby...... made breakfast today. It was very good. I don't think I have to worry about any more fat today. I will try to stay closer to fat free for rest of the day lol. I will be working all afternoon so it should work out. Tue, 23 Jun 2009 10:16:00 EST OK..... I'm not even trying to enter what I ate yesterday. I spent soooo much energy at work with the Father's Day event and all. And, the activities director invited me to grab a plate. Sounded good to me at that time lol. Chicken, baked potato, sour cream, salad, ranch dressing, ended with a brownie with ice cream and chocolate syrup and I enjoyed every bite.

Then hubby requested chicken and dressing for supper. I figure calories in calories out I was about even yesterday.
Mon, 22 Jun 2009 09:50:28 EST I don't know how..... I lost 2 1/2 pounds this week except that I'm being worked to death these days. 24 Sun, 21 Jun 2009 19:48:30 EST I don't know about you...... but I'm about ready to call it quits. I didn't weigh in today and I'm afraid to lol. Things are not going well. But I guess I am happy where I am. Fri, 19 Jun 2009 20:59:43 EST Potato Salad. To make a good potato salad:
1) Cook the potatoes with skins on in low boiling water until done. Drain, refrigerate overnight.
2) Peel and cube potatoes to desired size; I like them a little smaller.
3) Add your chopped hard-boiled eggs and diced vegetables as desired.
4) Mix together the mayonaisse (I like Hellman's Light) and some hot dog type relish.
5) Stir the sauce gently into the vegetables until well coated.
6) Sprinkle with paprika and refrigerate, cove... Wed, 17 Jun 2009 09:39:00 EST Working..... hard to get back on track. I have four pounds left to goal weight. I let up lately but today I feel like I can do it. My plan is to get to 120 and stay there. I did not lose this week but I have high hopes for the coming weigh in.

I'm so happy for boopie that she is losing weight by journaling and hanging in there. Better health is the real goal here.

I love that we can do this together and reaching our goals is only the beginning. I will continue to check in and journ... Mon, 15 Jun 2009 10:10:50 EST Ok, so.... as I was rounding a corner and walking to the work entrance, I noticed my boss and a co-worker taking a break. I overheard my boss say that if I got any thinner, I would blow away 30 . And then they noticed me coming toward them. They said "We were just talking about you." I can't tell you how good that made me feel to see my hard work that noticeable.

I couldn't have done it without Sparkpeople. Tracking and planning has been a great tool.

Especially, I coul... Wed, 10 Jun 2009 19:16:39 EST I'm finding..... it really hard to continue on. Sun, 7 Jun 2009 16:32:04 EST It's true..... I'm guilty of not checking my emails very often. But, every now and then I will go in and "clean" them out a little. While doing that today, I ran into the picture of our group which I posted as well as this lovely verse (both sent to me by boopie):

THIS SAYS IT ALL:

Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do. <B... Sat, 6 Jun 2009 10:46:46 EST Why is it.... when you get close to goal, everyone wants to push you to eat? I'm trying soooo hard and everyone is ganging up--or at least that is how I feel about it.

It is so maddening. I'm not where I want to be yet. And, after a while, it is so easy to go off track. I really don't need any encouragement in this direction.

We went for dinner last night. I thought we would go to McDonald's where I could have a "safe" fish sandwich and we went to local restaurant. I had a fine meal... Sat, 6 Jun 2009 07:48:08 EST HELP!!!!! I am sooooo frustrated. I was hoping to change my weight ticker goals and getting ready to plan for maintainance. Sparkpeople articles say this:

Action Steps:
Go to your Start Page.
Locate your my Tools column (on the left side), and scroll down to the My Goals section.
Locate your weight goal (“Go from X to X by this date”) and click “Change” next to it.
On the next page, simply plug in your new weight as both your “current weight” and your “target weight.”... Thu, 4 Jun 2009 10:42:49 EST I tried...... a new recipe: Ham & Cheese Frittata submitted by SLEMON45. It was delicious! I posted a review but forgot to add that I left out the Garlic & Herb Seasoning. YUM! YUM! You gotta try this one. 4 Thu, 4 Jun 2009 09:20:04 EST I tried...... a new snack today: Clover Valley Woven Wheats Crackers. They are pretty good 30

Clover Valley is a brand sold at Dollar General Stores.

I am also trying Total Whole Grain Cereal. It has much vitamins and minerals. In fact, it is like taking a vitamine pill without taking it. Wed, 3 Jun 2009 14:06:42 EST My recipe book..... now contains 88 yummy delicious recipes. Check it out!! I add new ones every now and then 190

Also, I'm not seeing any trying and reviewing of Sparkrecipes 46 Let's go girls, a challenge is a challenge. 15

P.S. If you try one of mine and you think it could use a change or two, go for it. I'm a big girl and I can take constructive criticism. 2 Wed, 3 Jun 2009 09:14:44 EST A friend sent this to me: Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my shape to keep.
Please no wrinkles, Please no bags
And please lift my butt before it sags.
Please no age spots, Please no gray
And as for my belly, Please take it away.
Please keep me healthy, Please keep me young,
And thank you Dear Lord, For all that you've done.

Five tips for a woman....
1. It is important that a man helps you around the house and has a job.
2. It is important tha... Tue, 2 Jun 2009 08:30:26 EST Ok, Ok..... I have been eating too much. I should be keeping to around 1300 calories but I have been expending soooo much energy at work that I am just plain hungry in the evening. It is not emotional eating. I need to do better. I have a couple days off (worked six in a row) to reevaluate and regroup.

THIS IS THE CRITICAL MONTH LADIES 15 Tue, 2 Jun 2009 08:04:34 EST I tried.... a new recipe today. It is Mexican Chicken Rice submitted by ROBINSON5055. I used 1 cup chopped up cooked chicken breast instead of the two breasts called for. I also added 1/4 teaspoon cumin. I found it a little dry as is so I added an extra 1/2 cup broth. It is pretty good and I will make it again. Sun, 31 May 2009 17:54:15 EST I did good.... with the blood pressure check today. I guess the lower salt thing is really working. 43 And to tell ya the truth, I hardly miss the extra salt. The low caffeine is a real struggle though.

Also, I'm really struggling with the diet (keeping my calories down) right now. I have six more pounds to go before July 1. I WILL MAKE IT. I am determined even though I have been on a little bit of a calorie holiday last few days. This is sooooo hard. Tue, 26 May 2009 12:01:35 EST Ok.... I'll have to start that 1300 to 1400 NO EXCEPTIONS limits today. It didn't work out yesterday 198 Sun, 24 May 2009 08:20:12 EST It has been.... a rough week at work. But, now I have the entire weekend off and I'm going to relax a little bit. May is a hub of activity at our workplace and always some event going on. Yesterday was the cookout. I was on good behavior and ate only a hamburger with mustard and a half deviled egg (I couldn't resist that).

I'm planning my strategy for the final leg of our weight loss challenge (family thing). 1200 to 1400 calories. NO EXCEPTIONS! That is the main thing.

I gotta tell y... Sat, 23 May 2009 07:50:53 EST I have come to realize...... that it is not necessary to turn my world upside down in order to reduce sodium. At first, I thought I would have to develop an entirely new routine and change all my recipes. Well, that is simply not so. I have come to plan my meals to include treasured recipes changing only things like salt and broth:

I use salt sense now which is 1/3 less sodium
I use low sodium broth now.

This is for recipes that are clearly high in sodium. Many of my recipes need no adjustment ... Sun, 17 May 2009 10:18:53 EST Today.... I tried and reviewed a recipe for Tomato Basil Soup submitted by PESCETARIAN. It was pretty good. In fact, it has two servings vegetables per serving and I'm getting tired of raw veggies. I think 1/2 teaspoon sugar per four servings enhances it a little. I will add it to my Sparkrecipes Favorites scaled down to the four servings. The nutritional figures were a little different between Sparkrecipes and Mastercook. And, I did use 1% milk instead of cream as well as white vinegar in place of the... Sat, 16 May 2009 20:45:54 EST Well... I gained a pound this week. I expected I didn't lose anything but I didn't think it was so bad that I gained. 15

UPDATE: Looking back at the week, I don't know why I am surprised I gained. I had two days up close to 2000 calories 24 and no low days except yesterday when I was starting to worry about today's weigh in lol.

My goal this week is to keep closer to 1300 and stay pretty far away from 2000. I think I can do that lol. I work the 12:30 to 8:... Fri, 15 May 2009 07:44:32 EST I feel like..... I'm losing focus. I have to get back on track and fast lol.

I'm trying to put together a decent potato soup recipe but I don't know. Hubby makes the best potato soup but it is loaded with salt, fat, all that good stuff. He might think I'm invading his "territory" . 30 However, I don't think he has anything to worry about because so far this one I put together is mediocre and still too high in sodium.

Well, that's what we are eating for lunch because that is ... Tue, 12 May 2009 12:08:50 EST I found something out.... today: a small orange juice at McDonald's is 16 ounces 40

UPDATE: I went to enter the oj in my meal plan and the 16 ounce is a medium. That dingy girl at McDonald's wasn't listening when I said small.

Ok, this is like a bad joke and that girl wasn't even blonde:

My husband ordered a breakfast burrito meal. Girl asked him what he wanted to drink with it. Hubby said orange juice. She said "what size" he said whatever comes with it. She gave him a larg... Sat, 9 May 2009 09:06:27 EST Today..... I go back to see my doctor. We will see if reducing my sodium and caffeine intake has helped in reducing my bp. I hope so. Wish me luck 52

Update: back from doctor. My bp was way higher than last time 29 She said maybe because I was nervous about the tests I was getting (routine stuff). She is giving me two more weeks. 39 before prescribing bp meds. Tue, 5 May 2009 09:39:51 EST I think..... I lose the most weight in weeks I keep around 1300 with small fluctuations here and there. At 1200, I am just way too hungry and past 1500 I am suffering guilt as well as little weight loss.

I found a booklet at the local flea market and this is what I found in it:

For moderately active women having a medium frame (and I am using this because the booklet is older and newer data will often say there is no such thing as different body frames) and having a height of 5'3": ... Mon, 4 May 2009 08:49:52 EST I tried.... and reviewed Mom's Famous Beef Barley Soup that was submitted by SHYTEETEE. I made a couple changes in attempt to reduce sodium (which for most is not that high to begin with). I left out the salt and butter altogether. I sauteed the beef in a little cooking spray; added the broth and simmered for about 45 minutes. Then I added the remaining ingredients to pot and cooked for about an hour. My attempt to reduce sodium was somewhat foiled because I halved everything but mistakenly added the ful... Sat, 2 May 2009 08:20:46 EST This week.... has been pretty iffy. I was pleased as punch to have lost 1/2 pound. It was up and down but not too far up and not too far down lol.

I was pretty lax with the fruits and veggies, I had too much sodium a couple days, and my water bottle (which I totally depended on) disappeared from the kitchen at work. 24

I'm going shopping today and restock on veggies/fruits. I am also going to try to find a replacement for my water bottle. 194 Fri, 1 May 2009 08:56:56 EST This is a day... I could not win. We had to go to store so of course we had to eat somewhere 24

"We" chose Taco Bell and "we" ate Soft Taco Supremes (1 1/2). Hubby decided that. Well, the calories were not out of the ballpark but the sodium content was half my daily limit. Also, we discovered that for the rest of the day we were starving.

I ate most of my snack foods waiting for dinnertime. I promised hubby we could eat pizza. Well, it never got cool enough to bake pizza. ... Mon, 27 Apr 2009 18:18:27 EST Adding a recipe..... to your nutrition page:
1) Get a recipe from Sparkrecipes. Search their site. Click on the recipe you like.
A. You can save to your recipe box or print.
B. Under the nutritional values box are a couple important buttons:
1. Add recipe to meal planner; this will add the recipe to your nutrition page for the current day.
2. choose another day; click this and a little calendar will pop up. You can choose the day you want to work on.
... Mon, 27 Apr 2009 10:08:12 EST Makin it personal...... Using the nutrition page can be a learning experience 40

For those who want to customize their page and not follow the choices Sparkpeople have for you, here are some pointers:

First, on the nutrition page and below the fruit/veggies/ water area there are two buttons:
1) Add a food
2) Don't show meal plan

If you want to combine the meal plan prechosen items with your own items, check mark what you want in the plan. Then, click the Don't sh... Mon, 27 Apr 2009 09:49:40 EST Here's a challenge...... for my friends: I challenge all my friends to try and review one Sparkpeople recipe per week. This will be fun 30 Sat, 25 Apr 2009 10:13:04 EST Ouch..... my leg hurts today. It is like a tootheache and has been hurting all night. I don't know why but I do know it is going to be a long day at work today. Sat, 25 Apr 2009 08:17:19 EST Well...... I pulled this week's weight loss out of my hat I think.

I hate to say this because I have always feared the day the dr would put me on low sodium and low caffeine but, I really think it is a good thing. I am feeling good and I think it is helping me in my weight loss battle.

You have heard of the "blue period"? Well, I think yesterday was my "cheese period" and that is another story. 246 I didn't plan for lunch thinking I would improvise at work. They serve... Fri, 24 Apr 2009 08:37:37 EST eek..... I am sooo hungry today and I thought I had a really good plan. I didn' space the calories out good enough: too many at dinner and not enough earlier. I think that is why I'm so hungry. Tue, 21 Apr 2009 17:28:25 EST OK, I'm callin foul....... There is an article on dailyspark about "cheat days". In the article is a paragraph about "calorie cycling". I just read this fine article today and I have my range set to between 1200 and 1500 so that I have some "breathing room". I thought this was my great idea and now I find it has a name 30 and is not even MY idea. 100

Well, all I'm saying now is it is a good idea. 15 Tue, 21 Apr 2009 08:30:41 EST
