I had been off the meds for a few months to see if my levels would remain low, or if I would need to go back on them permanently. Unfortunately, my cholesterol levels bounced back up, so I am once again on a very small dosage of the medication. My doctor stressed to me that she believes it is my genetics, not a result of anything I have, or have not done. After drowning my sorrows in... Thu, 17 May 2012 15:05:48 EST Tidbits http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4884310 I've been tired this week, but am continuing to go for my one hour brisk walks. No new personal best times this week, but still improved over a month ago. Today I have an appointment with my doctor to see if I can stay off my cholesterol meds. I am optimistic that the lifestyle changes I have made will have dropped my cholesterol numbers enough to make the difference. Wish me luck! :)
Wed, 16 May 2012 14:25:22 EST Focus on Healthy! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4877211 In the last 3 weeks or so I have been closely watching the scale. It has been downright discouraging! I've been having a hard time making the numbers go down even though I have been walking a lot more now than 2 months ago, and logging every morsel I eat. I had been walking about 25 minutes in March, and have increased to about an hour per evening. It's amazing how on evenings when I think I'm too tired for cardio my energy level grows as I walk! I love that! I've been shooting for better lap... Fri, 11 May 2012 14:44:03 EST It's Working! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4872869 Yesterday was a great day! My massage therapist gave me some super news, I had some relaxing shopping time with my sister, and enjoyed an hour long walk with the dog in the evening. But I need to give you some history before I tell you what my massage therapist told me that was so great.

3 months ago I had a massage. My massage therapist gave me some shocking news: in my mid 40's I was developing a hunched back with accompanying scoliosis. Although I knew my back was stiff and tigh... Tue, 8 May 2012 19:42:05 EST I'm Making Progress http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4855110 It feels so great to shed some unwanted/ un-needed pounds! Last night I was feeling like I needed to eat more food. Not a craving, I just thought I felt hungry. Then I remembered how great it feels to eat lighter and feel lighter. That pesky "hunger" left & did not return until breakfast today.

I have been staying within my calorie range most days, rarely (if ever) staying under, and keeping my nutrients within range or close. The result? I have lost a pound per week for the past ... Fri, 27 Apr 2012 15:10:11 EST Slow Progress, But Progress! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4809076 Yesterday was a busy day without much activity. Work in the morning followed by a business lunch meeting, more work in the afternoon (desk work), quick salad & multigrain toast for supper, then off to my daughter's concert followed by coffee at Tim Horton's. Whew! The good news is that even with eating lunch at a restaurant and coffee in the evening, I still stayed on track with my calories. I finally remembered to use my pedometer :) which only had about 5500 steps on it, but I managed to r... Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:32:16 EST I Get Down, I Get Back Up... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4800030 This reminds me that when I have a bad day it's not the end of my world. I can get back up, knowing that at some point I WILL get down again. But every time we get down we need to get back up.
Yesterday I was doing great... until my teenage son offered me the last of his bag of Cheesies. :( Cheesies are a great weekness of mine and soon the bag was empty and I was full! Full of cheesies? Gross. But I got back up and went for a walk. I walked further and faster than usual, and did my ... Thu, 22 Mar 2012 15:43:41 EST The Road to Better Health http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4763716 I know this is not much of a streak, but every streak starts somewhere, right?

Okay, here is my streak. For four days I have done a 20-25 minute walk (hike) followed by 30-40 minutes of yoga! Like I said, it's not much of a streak, but I am feeling the results already. No more achey muscles keeping me awake at night, no more dragging myself out of bed at night to stretch so I can sleep. Also, the elbow that's been bothering me is feeling less achey and less stiff. It is a good fee... Wed, 29 Feb 2012 15:50:25 EST A Dog Named Zeuss http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4755610 Although I've been on SparkPeople since the summer of 2008, this is my first blog entry. I often read other people's blog entries and find them to be very encouraging, but I have never had success with journaling or blogging. Thanks to Cassie Johnston's blog entry from Feb.22, which I read today, I'm going to give it a shot. Who knows, maybe it will become a helpful habit. If not, there will be no harm done, but I will be able to say I tried.

I have been thinking for awhile what I ... Fri, 24 Feb 2012 19:57:13 EST
