One way might be great anticipation and excitement and another might be dread and fear.

The latter reminds me of a time some years ago when my sister and I and our (then) little kids got in a big inner tube to sled down a steep, snowy slope through an area of trees. Before we took off we asked how we could slow down or stop and someone sai... Mon, 7 Sep 2015 23:43:18 EST Day 4 On A Roll Another day of healthy eating and feeling good about it.

Today I helped with Good News club for kindergarten, first and second graders. Some of these kids like to snuggle up next to you and I look forward to being lighter and moving about more easily.

Losing weight means it's easier to work in the garden as well as just cleaning house.

My clothes have been getting snug and it will feel good to have them loosening up again.

Then there's better lab... Wed, 2 Apr 2014 00:19:45 EST Day two - on a roll Day two was easier because I had one day of success behind me.

Sundays can be challenging for staying on track because I need to bring a snack for between Sunday School and church to keep my blood sugar stable and then often we are later than usual for lunch. I bought one of those wonderful Costco chickens yesterday so I knew something good was there for lunch.

There's a clear glass cookie jar about 3/4 full of homemade ginger cookies that I've had more than my share o... Sun, 30 Mar 2014 22:40:04 EST One meal at a time, one day at a time... An "aha" moment. I knew I was out of my groove and then I remembered how it was when I was motivated, planning, succeeding. When I started I didn't know it would roll into days, weeks and months. All I need to do is START and keep my eye on the prize Sat, 29 Mar 2014 18:04:45 EST Adventures in my Weight Loss Journey Last week on our vacation I had a big victory. I am the lady who hates exercise. I've been walking regularly for the last 7 months because it does wonderful things for my blood sugar and health. Walking outside in the neighborhood (up and down hills) or on the river walk or other hikes is great fun. Walking inside - not as exciting but same health benefits. So last week we were at Steelhead Falls which is only a mile round trip but down a very steep slope and, of course, back up again. My hus... Tue, 25 Jun 2013 18:14:01 EST Changing my Workout I have been mainly walking mostly on level surfaces. I will begin to add more hills (easy where I live!) and strength training with exercise bands. I'm feeling stronger and know I can do this! Wish me luck. Sun, 23 Jun 2013 00:14:31 EST Moderation I am so glad common sense plans for better health allow moderation and not perfection. I'm not good at perfection. In years past I've been on diets where I did it "perfectly" until I reached my goal - which lasted about 2 minutes! because so many goodies were on the "no" list so I'd indulge and not know where to stop until I realized I was gaining weight and losing ground fast. Even on this FODMAP (high allergen foods not allowed for 6 weeks and then I add them back in to see how my system to... Thu, 23 May 2013 21:49:07 EST FODMAP Diet For the past week I've been on the FODMAP Diet (eliminating common food allergens to determine which ones are my problem) - one week down and five to go before I can slowly add back in dairy then wheat, onions, garlic, beans, stone fruit, etc. It's a challenge but I am doing it. No processed foods on this diet. I will say I feel well and I've been losing weight well. Also my blood sugar has been very good. I think it's also good I am blasted out of my food comfort zones. I was using A LOT of... Fri, 10 May 2013 22:48:22 EST Non-scale Ways I See Healthy Changes Here are some non-scale ways I see an improvement in my health:
I am wearing a smaller size
I can walk long distances without aches or pains
My blood sugar levels are good
I feel good
I feel positive about this journey & continuing it
I am eating healthier Mon, 18 Mar 2013 18:49:42 EST Quick & Easy Meals Quick & Easy Meals:
Corn tortillas, black beans & salsa, grated cheese
Meatloaf Stuffin' Muffins
Salad with leftover chicken, shrimp or beans
tilapia & veggies
Grilled chicken & veggies
Tuna sandwich, carrot sticks, apple
Hard boiled egg, toast, spinach salad, blueberries Sat, 9 Mar 2013 23:14:57 EST I'm On A Roll This week was my fifth consecutive week with a weight loss. It started when I decided I'd better check out the food exchange cards TOPS provided thinking I should know how to explain them to others. I realized this was something I could use. It was a surprise how well they work for me. I've lost 8.25 lb. in those five weeks and got my focus and determination back. I'm looking forward to ending this month with a good net loss. Fri, 21 Sep 2012 11:45:38 EST June in the Black In TOPS when we are "in the black" it means we have lost or stayed the same weight at our weigh-ins. This is my goal for the month of June (and July, August, September, October, November & December). Tracking my nutrition and exercise motivate me to keep going. It feels good to be in control. It's freedom. I'm free to eat what I want within my plan (calorie & nutrition range). It feels good to see my energy increase with my regular exercise. I plan to add strength training this week. I WILL ... Mon, 14 Jun 2010 23:28:43 EST Getting back on track Today is day 3 of renewing my efforts to journal my food intake, exercise, and water consumption. How did I forget how good it feels to be in healthy control?! How did I forget how good it feels to be making good choices? How did I forget how it feels to have courage and believe in my ability to reach my weight loss goal? Each day flows into the next with great hope and a smile on my face. Wed, 12 May 2010 22:31:36 EST Decluttering, cleaning up Today my husband and I had to go through his brother's multiple boxes of knick knacks - probably prizes in bingo games - because he won't be able to take them with him when he moves to a nursing home which will be his permanent home. It's hard to make decisions like this for someone who must pare down and who is unable to do this for themselves.

Mom has gone through the same thing. She lived in a retirement apartment for 15 years, then an assisted living and now an adult foster ca... Mon, 15 Oct 2007 22:25:32 EST October 13, 2007 This plan is very helpful. I have been playing around with points or portions for so long, I haven't really looked at the cold, hard numbers of what I'm eating. This motivates me to do better with planning and with targeting those healthy numbers.
Went to Cranberrian Fair today. Did a moderate amount of walking. Need to increase the walking but it was good getting out and just having fun. Bruce and I have been too locked in to obligations. Sat, 13 Oct 2007 21:43:39 EST
