Mon, 31 Dec 2012 01:13:36 EST Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5176228 I want to wish all my spark friends and team leaders a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2013! Tue, 25 Dec 2012 23:50:35 EST Happy Thanksgiving! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5142070 I just wanted to wish all of my Spark friends, Team Leaders and colleagues a Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the holiday! Tue, 20 Nov 2012 23:48:27 EST My First External Curling Bonspiel http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5137809 I just finished curling in the TCA curling bonspiel and really enjoyed the experience! I was asked to skip a team of ladies from my club and over a 3-day period we curled a total of 5 games at 3 different clubs across the city. All of the games were close which was all we were hoping for! We did lose the first 2 games, the last in an extra end, which set us up in the fifth event and meant we needed to win all ensuing games, which we did! I think the 4th game was the biggest shocker for us... Fri, 16 Nov 2012 20:03:56 EST Still Maintaining & Even Dropping a Few Pounds http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5114051 I'm now 7 months into my maintenance and have managed to drop a further couple of pounds since the end of March. I still faithfully enter my food on a daily basis into the nutrition tracker as I find the discipline necessary to keep within my suggested calorie range. I've also maintained my level of exercise as I shift from spring / summer activities into fall /winter ones. I played golf for the first time in years and liked it enough to go three more times before curling started. I think... Fri, 26 Oct 2012 19:49:22 EST Closing the Cottage http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5089490 Despite a rainy day, it was quite a busy day outside at the cottage. We cleaned all the chairs and they're put away, the boats are out of the water and under the cottage, the canoes and windsurfers are in the rafters and the toys are removed from the sandpile. Although there are still lots of things to do, Sunday will be dedicated to getting the cottage ready to host 43 people! The turkeys have been cooked and carved but the rest of the food needs to be prepared and desserts cooked and the... Sat, 6 Oct 2012 23:09:15 EST Canadian Thanksgiving http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5087279 Wow, where did the year go? It's already Thanksgiving weekend! We're heading up to the cottage tomorrow and having our turkey dinner on Sunday with my husband's relatives. Although we only had 35 people in 2011 we're looking at high 40's this year. One of my husband's rules is we all have to eat in the same room which should be a challenge this year! Regardless, it's a great time to catch up with everyone before closing the cottage for another year. My husband and I were baking tonight... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 23:57:57 EST Golf is over for the year...sigh http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5084557 I played golf, albeit only best ball, for the first time in many years in Sept. The occasion was a dragon boat team outing and it was very successful. The weather cooperated and we had a great turnout, not to mention a lot of laughs. I picked up some instruction and everyone was very helpful.

I had decided to buy some used clubs online so I could easily continue to play a few more times before curling season began. Of course there's a Tuesday morning group that plays from earl... Tue, 2 Oct 2012 23:56:07 EST End of September - 6 Months of Maintenance! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5081357 I reached my goal weight in late March 2012 and have maintained it through the next six months. Of course there have been increases in weight following vacations as I've gained 10+ lbs but have managed in each case to drop the lbs soon after getting back into my regular eating and exercising routines. Woo hoo!

Instead of fretting while I'm away, I know I have the tools, support and willpower to refocus when I return and I can enjoy my vacation! It's quite reassuring to me tha... Sun, 30 Sep 2012 22:57:27 EST Nephew's Wedding Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5079592 We're off to my husband's nephew's wedding shortly and we couldn't be happier for the bride and groom. My nephew had spina bifida and was one of the lucky ones as he's very fit, mobile and a physed teacher. His bride-to-be is lovely and they're such a good match! The sun is shining, on a beautiful fall day and we're looking forward to a great family day! Sat, 29 Sep 2012 13:32:29 EST Haven't Blogged for a While... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5076512 For some reason haven't felt like blogging in a couple of weeks as have been pretty busy. Now in between exercise seasons with dragon boat paddling finished and curling about to begin in about 10 days. Gradually switching over to a few new exercise classes and getting busier with the 3 curling committees I volunteered for. Choir practice started up after labour day as well which I'm quite enjoying. Hopefully I haven't committed to too many things but we'll see over the next month. Here's... Thu, 27 Sep 2012 00:00:09 EST Golfing Today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5051836 Our dragon boat team had its first annual best ball golf tournament today which I attended. The weather cooperated and the sun came out for about an hour. We were only playing 9 holes thank goodness since I haven't had a club in my hand for about 10 years. But I've decided it's a sport I want to try and I bought some used clubs on line which worked out just perfectly today. It was a great day for walking around a very pretty course and I enjoyed it so much I'm going back on Tuesday mornin... Sun, 9 Sep 2012 23:58:37 EST Shout Sister Choir http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5044858 A good friend and I signed up for the above choir and the first practice was tonight. It's for women who can't read music, don't have to audition, in other words, everyone can join regardless of their singing ability. The music selections are generally pop songs which I really enjoyed. Who knew that your voice was a muscle that also needs to be trained to reach certain notes and to sing without drawing a breath! I think I'm really going to enjoy this new challenge! The Choir Director is ... Tue, 4 Sep 2012 23:51:18 EST Another week goes by http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5036800 Wow what a busy week and it's not over yet! I've been maintaining my daily walking so far regardless of how the rest of my day is shaking out. Tomorrow I have a two hour return trip to buy some used golf clubs/bag/cart as I'm hoping to get at least one or two games in before the end of the season. There's a Tuesday morning league that I'm eyeing for next year although the clubs and few games give me a head start. It's just one other sport I want to try and many of the paddlers and curlers... Wed, 29 Aug 2012 23:44:07 EST One Pound Away http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5029435 I gained about 12 pounds in July while away on a 3 week vacation, 2 weeks of which were a cruise. I refocused when I returned and have gradually been shedding the weight I gained. This morning when I stepped on the scale I was only one pound away from my goal or starting weight! Thank goodness for the spark tools (especially the nutrition tracker!) and online support which make it easy to get back down to it! Woo hoo! Fri, 24 Aug 2012 14:17:04 EST Bad Night for Treats http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5023680 Last night we sat down for a couple of games of cards after dinner. Jujubes and chips were brought out and instead of only having a few of each, I overdid it! I seem to have little resistance where treats are concerned! Since I had also had dessert I felt really stuffed by the time I went to bed. All I could do was refocus and hope that today would be a better nutrition day which it has been. It's amazing how the next day the slate is wiped clean and you get to try all over again, partic... Mon, 20 Aug 2012 16:43:01 EST Trying to Start Running http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5020888 While up at the cottage I try to walk for about 2 hours a day. In order to add some variety to my routine, I've started to add some running to my program. I've never been a runner probably because I've had extra weight to carry around. But today out of the 2 hours I managed to run for 60 minutes (not fast mind you!). The length of time I ran ranged from 5 to 17 minutes in between the walking. I'm starting to think about possibly walking / running a 5k, we'll see. I'm very pround of what... Sat, 18 Aug 2012 17:20:46 EST Dragon Boat Regatta http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5014351 I participated in my second regatta of the year yesterday and we managed to win our division and 'the spirit award'! Not bad! The weather even held out for us which was an added bonus. There is great teamwork involved in getting 20 people to paddle together and we were definitely in sync by our third race. We went from a time of 2:33 (min) to 2:22, the first time we've beaten 2:30 in a 500 metre race. All in all it was a great day and worth getting up at 5:45 am! Mon, 13 Aug 2012 22:40:46 EST Internet at the Cottage http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5005947 Just found out yesterday that I can get wireless at the cottage by using a relative's network. Needless to say I've been on the SP website yesterday and today. Don't want to spend too much time on the site while I'm up here but nice to know I can now pick up emails and get my SP fix too! Tue, 7 Aug 2012 23:30:49 EST Off to the Cottage Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4997300 It hardly seems like we've returned from vacation and August is here. I haven't fully caught up yet from being away and we're heading off to the cottage for another week. It's been a hectic summer and I don't feel like I'm on top of things as I've been away so much. I'm definitely a person who likes routine but I am starting to get back in sync at the cottage which is quite helpful. I have some weight to lose from the cruise and find it easiest to do it at home where I can control everyth... Thu, 2 Aug 2012 00:02:44 EST Off to Norway today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4957982 The limo is coming at 2:00 pm then we're off to the airport for a 6:00 pm flight. Woo hoo!! We're both looking forward to chilling out (literally!) on our 2 week cruise to Norway as we're heading up past the arctic circle where the temperatures are only 6 degrees celsius. Lots of cruising days and excursions planned and of course lots of food temptations. Hopefully I'll get some walking in to offset the temptations! Can't wait! Fri, 6 Jul 2012 12:50:48 EST Upcoming Cruise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4954415 We're leaving on Friday for a 2-week cruise and just starting to pack, pick up last minute items, etc. Can't wait! Wed, 4 Jul 2012 00:00:38 EST Happy Canada Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4950474 Just relaxing at the cottage, reading, walking later, eating, and maybe a little cayaking. It's a lovely, sunny, breezy day and it doesn't get much better than that! Sun, 1 Jul 2012 14:41:32 EST Off to Cottage Country http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4945175 I'm running out of time to 'spark' today, ah! We decided to go up to the cottage tonight so must quickly get dinner ready, pack and head off! I'll reconnect next week when I'm back. Wed, 27 Jun 2012 18:40:38 EST Short One Tonight http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4943982 Went to dragon boat paddle tonight and there were only 7 of us rather than a full boat of 20. We still went out for the hour session and had more individual focus from the coach than we would in a full boat. The water was also quite choppy which made for difficult paddling. I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow morning when I'm off to paddle again! So getting quite sleepy and will cut this blog short. Sweet dreams everyone! Tue, 26 Jun 2012 23:52:04 EST I'm Bushed! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4940906 Held a bridal shower today and all the planning, shopping etc it entailed. Went off without a hitch (ha ha!). But I'm tired from three days of events and looking forward to sleeping in and getting a long walk in Monday. Mon, 25 Jun 2012 00:00:46 EST My First Timed 5k & 10k http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4939213 I just came back from a long walk and decided to time when I'd walked both a 5 and 10k. My 5k time was 36 minutes while my 10k was 81 minutes - woo hoo! That's probably faster than I could run the distances as I haven't become a runner yet, although I'm toying with the idea. In total I walked 14.3 km in just under 2 hours! No wonder my legs are sore! Pretty proud of myself...I'm a walking fool! Sat, 23 Jun 2012 17:06:36 EST Snack Attack http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4938014 Last night I watched the last 10 minutes of the basketball game and ate over 50 almonds...yikes! I've been pretty good about no longer having out of control snack attacks but last night was an exception. I guess I was hungry and just started eated mindlessly which happens. Oh well, I didn't beat myself up over it, just recorded it in my nutrition tracker and moved on. Today is a much better day and I just got back from a 1 hr 45 min walk. I'm tired but must run to get ready for dinner an... Fri, 22 Jun 2012 17:25:31 EST Volunteering http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4935517 I've volunteered to be on two curling committees next year, the drawmaster for my daytime group, and the bonspiel committee for the business ladies. On Sunday this week I was approached by one of my team mates about assuming her Secretary position on the curling club's Board of Directors (BoD). It doesn't appear that the most recent request will take an inordinate amount of time given that the BoD only meets once a month. As I approach my one year anniversary of being retired, I think I c... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 23:21:32 EST Exercising in the Heat http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4934011 Had a great indoor Zumba class this morning to get my heart pumping. Good thing it was early before the studio got hot. Also walked for over an hour in the heat of the day and came home dripping! Thank goodness I drank plenty of water before and after the walk to rehydrate. Temperature is scheduled to remain in the low 90's until Friday so I'll have to get my outdoor exercise in early before it gets too steamy. It's still way better than rain or snow! Tue, 19 Jun 2012 23:39:47 EST My First Kayak Paddle http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4930810 As the summer cottage season approaches in a couple of weeks, I'd like to take advantage of the kayaks at the cottage as another means of exercise while up there. I bought a 2-hour intro to kayaking deal at one of our park lakes and scheduled the lesson and paddle this morning. Although a thunderstorm was in the forecast, it held off for the 2 hours and I got my paddling in! It's a totally different stroke from dragon boat paddling but pretty easy to pick up. The current on the water was ... Sun, 17 Jun 2012 23:50:06 EST Great Summery Weekend with Friends! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4920903 Just got back from a great weekend up north with friends and their significant others. Boat rides, great meals & wine, campfires, games, long walks, shopping and lots and lots of laughter were all on the schedule! We've volunteered to host next year's gathering and can't wait! Sun, 10 Jun 2012 23:58:53 EST Cruise Reunion at the Cottage with the Hubbies http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4917041 Heading up to cottage country Friday morning for a weekend with my cruising mates and their significant others. Hoping the rain and thunderstorms stay away for the three days but might be asking too much. Oh well whatever the weather I'm sure much laughter and "memories from the cruise" will be rehashed. The rain might even encourage some euchre playing. Looking forward to getting back together one last time before the fall and enjoying the great outdoors! Thu, 7 Jun 2012 23:23:23 EST First Bridal Shower of the Season http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4910802 We just held our first of two bridal showers this afternoon and it was a great success. Last night and this morning kept me pretty busy organizing my assigned food list but got it all done on time. Everyone showed up and we were able to buy many accessories for the patio set that the bride-to-be wasn't aware of, which was a nice surprise! We played some fun games with prizes and of course had made enough food to feed an army. A few of the younger set brought their babies so we could catch... Mon, 4 Jun 2012 00:01:32 EST First Dragon Boat Regatta of the Season http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4896919 My first dragon boat regatta of the season happens this Saturday and I've had two great practices this week! I think I'm starting to get the hang of the swivel this season and I've got a great big bruise on my hip to prove it! The weather has been fantastic this week and it's been great to get out on the bay for our hour long paddles - almonst 1.5 hours tonight. If I didn't have to get up at 4:30 am on Saturday I'd really be looking forward to it...oh well you can't have everything...but i... Thu, 24 May 2012 23:50:51 EST I'm back & rejuvenated http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4892271 I had a lovely long weekend at the cottage and the weather was spectacular! It was sunny and warm for the whole weekend, July-like weather. Had some lovely long walks in the sunshine...it was very quiet which allowed me to contemplate nature and enjoy the solitude. We also played dominoes and other card games at night which provided lots of laughs and good company so it was a nice balance. I'm rejuvenated for the week ahead! Mon, 21 May 2012 23:59:55 EST Off to the Cottage http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4887384 I'm packing and heading up to the cottage for the Victoria Day long weekend. Looking forward to catching up with my husband's family. Have a great weekend. Fri, 18 May 2012 14:23:58 EST Energized but Need Refocusing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4881837 Had a great vacation with the ladies but overindulged big time! Started to refocus today and kept on track. More exercise planned for Tuesday and getting back into good healthy routines. Tue, 15 May 2012 00:01:25 EST Ship Ahoy! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4868283 I'm heading off on my 7-day Caribbean cruise Sunday morning - Woo Hoo! Sat, 5 May 2012 23:00:28 EST Getting Excited! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4865588 Well the cruise is only 3 more sleeps away! I've been out buying new summer clothes which is always fun since I've dropped 4-5 sizes since my 50 pound weight loss! Somehow during the winter I made do with wearing oversized clothes perhaps not believing that I would keep the weight off...HA! Now this would never do on a cruise thus the purchasing frenzy all at once. Can't wait to model all the new clothes. I've even bought dresses and I can't remember the last time I actually wore one...y... Thu, 3 May 2012 23:42:54 EST A Much More Active Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4862283 Was up bright and early today after a fitful sleep to attend my Zumba class. 45 minutes of at times high impact Zumba got my heart going and my sweat glands working! Home for a quick lunch then walked to my pedicure appt and back, 2 hours in total. This was my first pedicure but certainly won't be my last! A nutritious dinner followed by a movie and getting ready for my first dragon boat paddling session of the season Wed morning. I'm getting psyched! Wed, 2 May 2012 00:00:18 EST Lazy Few Days http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4860354 There was a death in the family last week and my husband and I attended the wake on Sunday and funeral today. We spent a long time with his family each day including the reception after the service. I find these quite events quite draining and found that I couldn't muster the energy when I got home to exercise. At least today I forced myself to grocery shop and got a light walk out of it but that's all I could motivate myself to do. Well some days are just like that and I can't beat mysel... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 23:41:46 EST Cruise with the Euchre Ladies One Week Away! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4856948 Next Sunday morning I'll be jetting off to Miami to board our cruise ship with my 5 euchre lady friends! The longest I've been away with them is over a weekend so hopefully we're all still friends at the end of the week - lol!

On past cruises I've been able to keep my weight gain to about 5 lbs and hopefully I'll be successful again this time around. I think the activity on the excursions definitely helped and I tried to walk the track as many days as possible.

Wha... Sat, 28 Apr 2012 23:47:47 EST Final Curling Bonspiel http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4843085 Well it seems like we've been curling all week....wait a minute we have curled every night except for Monday! After tonight's late game we only have one game left Saturday morning then a break before our wrap up dinner and dance that evening. What a great way to end the season, lots of new teams to meet then dance your feet off. Thank goodness dragon boating is starting May 1...something to look forward to. Thu, 19 Apr 2012 19:15:54 EST A Good Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4838404 Sunday night after getting home I was starving and couldn't stop snacking. I hadn't done that in months but I guess these things happen. I just knew that Monday would be a better day. It was sunny and warm so I went out for what turned out to be a 2 hour walk, about double the time I usually go for. A few hours later since the sun was still shining, I gardened for over an hour before dinner. I wanted to take advantage of the great weather and it felt good to be so active after the 'night... Mon, 16 Apr 2012 21:51:35 EST Progress Not Perfection http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4835475 I use the above saying to keep me balanced when I've put weight back on like I have in the last week. With Easter indulgences and a euchre night out with the ladies I'm up about 5 pounds from my goal weight. Today was a good day with an hour-long walk and gardening to perk me up after a late night out. Hopefully getting back on track. Remember progress not perfection! Sun, 15 Apr 2012 00:00:48 EST Reached My Goal Weight Today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4812731 Well it's been quite a day as I finally got down to 126 pounds, a drop of 51 pounds since mid-July 2011! WOO-HOO.! Even though my weight has fluctuated upwards during vacations, family events & holidays, I know I now have the tools at my disposal on SP to get my weight back down to target. I'm feeling much more energetic and try to do 60 minutes of some kind of exercise daily. I still track my food and exercise daily as much as possible as a discipline and check that I'm still on track. ... Fri, 30 Mar 2012 20:00:04 EST Daylight Savings Time Change http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4788207 I don't know why I have such trouble with this one hour time change but I do! It was sleepless in Toronto on Sunday night but Monday was much better because I was exhausted. I was hopeful on Tuesday night but it was 3 am before I finally started to fall asleep. Guess tonight should be a good one as I've gone for a 1-hour walk, done some light gardening and curled tonight. Here's hoping! Wed, 14 Mar 2012 23:01:16 EST Getting Back to Normal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4770985 Getting caught up on email, grocery shopping and other tasks after the funeral and arrangements last week. Nice to sleep in a bit on the weekend and get some of my energy back. Starting to get back into my weekly exercise routines which should help keep me on track. Heading off to bed shortly as still catching up on my sleep. Sun, 4 Mar 2012 23:52:54 EST
