It is with both sadness and joy I tell you that my mom slipped peacefully away in her sleep at the same nursing home where my husband is a resident. Although I'm sad for the loss of this dear woman, there's a sense of joy in knowing she is out of the bed that's kept her confined for the last 15 years and is, again, up and walking -- no she's running. "I Can Only Imagine" what she's doing right now, but there is no doubt in my mind as to where she's doing it.

In the wee hours of t... Although I do have an excessive amount of arthritis in my knees, especially my left, the orthopedic doctor I saw regarding the numbness in my left knee due to a recent fall, ruled out my problem as being “joint” related, and thought it to be “vascular," and suggested I see a heart specialist. Well, I took his advice and made an appointment for November 10.

After examining me, he came to the conclusion, “there’s a lot of work to be done." Wed, 9 Nov 2011 16:22:07 EST "WANTED!" ... Your Prayers I went to an orthopedic doctor regarding the injury from a recent fall because after two weeks, my whole knee was still completely numb. He ruled out my knee cap being broken, but confirmed that I do have excessive arthritis in my knees, particularly the left and that it may take 5-6 months before I get the feeling back. He, however, said that the real problem with the tremendous pain in my legs, shortness of breath, and other symptoms I’ve been experiencing is not a joint problem, it’s a v... Wed, 2 Nov 2011 22:00:46 EST How are you celebrating Halloween? Every year at the nursing home where my husband and mom live, some of the staff and of some of the residents, like myself, bring their children and grand children in and the residents line the halls in their wheelchairs and pass out candy to the kids. My 92 year old mom loves to dress up, usually in a princess tiara and boa.

Several of the churches in our area have Fall Festivals that includes "Trunk 'R Treating" where people festively decorate the trunks of their cars and hand o... Sun, 30 Oct 2011 23:09:39 EST I've kept my guardian angels busy ... What Thomas Paine once said, “these are the times that try men’s souls,” has never been so evident as it has been in my life over the last couple of months. It sort of began in August when the nursing home notified me that my husband was “non-responsive” and was running a fever. He had a kidney infection and, although he was not hospitalized, he was on an IV and a strong anti-biotic for a week or so. The next week, I missed half a week’s work with some kind of virus that was going around t... Thu, 20 Oct 2011 18:34:44 EST MY STORY ... "When I Became a Christian" Being the daughter of an itinerate preacher, my mom saw to it from a very young age, that my brother and I attend church every Sunday. However, as I grew older, I drifted away from the teachings of my youth only to make a lot of mistakes.

But God wasn’t through with me yet. It was many years later as I waited for my daughter at a bus stop, a little old woman with a kindly face approached me. She asked, “If you died tonight, do you know where you would spend eternity?”
<B... Wed, 12 Oct 2011 23:54:38 EST An invitation to join me ... Ever since my husband, who is also my sweetheart and best friend, suffered his third stroke, I've felt a little sad. With each one, I feel more and more distanced from the relationship we once shared. We use to sit and, for hours, talk about absolutely nothing with nothing particularly on our minds but enjoying each others company. Sadly, his mind is now such that it is difficult for him to find answers to the most simple questions, and many times the answers he gives isn't even related to... Usually 3-4 glasses is all I can get down. I don't know if it's because I almost drowned a couple of times when I was younger, but I have trouble getting water down. Now, sweet ice tea ... that's a whole different story."

By the way, thank you so much for the prayers for my husband. They called me from the nursing home today and said they are going to have to plac... Fri, 12 Aug 2011 16:04:33 EST Your prayers are requested ... This has been a rough week. Last Wednesday I received a call at work from my husband's nursing home that he was "unresponsive" and was being transported to the hospital. They admitted him where he stayed until his release Sunday evening and I was with him his entire stay. His tests revealed he had a urinary tract infection, as well as a minor stroke. His first was at the age of 34 when a lady pulled out in front of his motorcycle where he landed on his head, was in a coma six weeks, and ... Tue, 9 Aug 2011 01:18:22 EST 1-2-3 Jump! I've stepped out of the box and committed myself to taking two of the 60+ teams goals for the month ... "drinking 8 glasses of water a day" and "cardio three times a week for 30 minutes."

I've been putting off making such commitments, but need to do something to re-motivate myself. Fri, 1 Apr 2011 18:25:03 EST My loss is Heaven's gain ...

This has been a bitter-sweet weekend for me—I lost one of my dearest friends unexpectedly. I’ve been crying ever since her husband called to tell me. I have also been replaying in my mind all of the things that we shared together that we'd never get to see or do again.

For the past 11+ years, and up until her retirement a little over a year ago, we sat next to each other at work—not to mention that we w... Sun, 27 Mar 2011 19:00:53 EST Don't get all emotional ... I out grew emotional eating a long time ago and it's a rare occasion when I do. My tendency is to not eat when I feel emotional stress. Of course, that can be just as detrimental to weight loss efforts as overeating as it throws the metabolism all out of whack! As momma always said, "if the right one don't getcha then the left one will," so it's a losing battle either way. But all is not lost and it can be turned into a winning battle if I just persevere and hang tuff, avoid the extremes on... Sat, 19 Mar 2011 21:23:18 EST You don't have because you don't ask ... After responding to someone's blog this morning, I got to thinking about the wonderful gift we've been given to communicate with God. His Word, the Holy Bible, gives us a blueprint of how we ought to live if we want to be successful, and in it He says, "you don't have because you don't ask!"

God is not looking for my perfection, He is looking for my willingness to be perfected, then, I am to leave it in His hands and watch Him work! Between the birth of a new great grand baby, visiting my husband in the nursing home, working a full time job and attending an all-day conference in another town, it's been a super busy week. This weekend I decided to stay home and do absolutely "nothing!" And that is exactly what I did.

102 ... I'm all rested and ready to meet this week's challenges. I take it one day at a time believing in the promise that God won't give me more than I can handle. Sun, 20 Feb 2011 21:48:37 EST My Birthday Surprise ... Well, today is my birthday ... and a very special one it is. As I sit in the lobby of the hospital, my granddaughter is on the 2nd floor giving birth as we speak. Kayden David should be arriving on the scene any moment now. Thank you David and Beth for the great birthday present! So it's "Happy Birthday to us," and may we share many, many more!"
187 Fri, 11 Feb 2011 16:34:54 EST Goals ... don't leave home without them! If you don't have goals, then how are you going to know when you get there! My first goal with SP is to aim for a healthy weight that is comfortable for me. When I get there, I can decide whether I need to lose more ... but for now, it's 175. I know, I know! For some of you, 175 would still be considered overweight. But, when you are coming from 267, it sounds so-o-o good! And, personally, I would rather carry a little extra weight than a bunch of saggy, baggy skin. Sounds terrible doe... Some opportunities inevitably pass us by, but we can take advantage of others. Many people feel powerless, but this is rarely the case--some opportunities just require a little thinking outside the box.
