PATTIMET's SparkPeople Blog PATTIMET's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community New Year - time to stop with the excuses I'm a runner, I started in 2012 and in November of 2014 I ran my first marathon. Last January I signed up for another half for this January. Well last year, I had so many set backs it wasn't funny. I took a nasty fall and busted up my knee in February. I was going through some nasty legal battles with my deadbeat ex who decided not to pay child support, the financial difficulties sent me spiraling. When I run my brain goes on auto pilot, with all the stress going on I would start to have... Sat, 2 Jan 2016 11:23:38 EST Sad Puppy So I am very sad. I have a german sheppard mix dog named Blue. He has been a running partner and a snuggle bud for my oldest son. He is only 6 years old and a couple of months ago his toe nail cracked - a month later it became infected and I took him to the vet who cut the nail and gave us antiboitics - it started to heal but then stopped. It now has a mass growing out of the toe and I have seen it more than double in size in the last week. He is scheduled to have surgery to remove the t... Wed, 17 Jun 2015 09:57:44 EST Stress Sucks I feel like my life is spinning out of control. I am a single mom with 2 boys. My ex husband started becoming very irratic paying his child support obligations which started causing financial issues. In August I filed a motion for contempt and enforcement of the original child support order. He in turn became more irratic in payments and filed a motion to reduce support, claiming that he makes 60% less now than he did. But he hasn't changed jobs. I can't afford an attorney, so I am conc... Mon, 6 Oct 2014 14:18:11 EST Dylan's Triathlon

So today my son did his 4th triathlon, well kids triathlon. The last one he did in June, he place 2nd out of 3 boys in his age group. So he was convinced that he was going to place, but we knew that there were going to be more kids, and as much as my son would like to be "athletic" he's not the best athlete, but he gives it 120% most days and I think today he gave 150%. He came in 4th out of 6 boys in his age g... Sun, 27 Jul 2014 21:38:25 EST Running I did an 8.5 mile run this morning. We ran down by the beach it is so peaceful to run down by the ocean. However, this morning when we started our run, there were lots of members of a run club out doing their training runs. I don't run with them because my schedule generally does not work with their schedule. But I felt so intimated by all of these runners, they can run so much faster than me. I can't just run - I do a 6 minute run and 1 min walk pattern - my overall pace was 12:36 this... Sat, 26 Jul 2014 17:17:20 EST Family Time Part 2 Last night I ran with the boys down by the beach, there is a beautiful path that runs along A1A. We did our 3+ miles of run walk combo. Then we headed for the beach. I had packed sandwiches so we ate, then went down and hit the water and the sand. I did a little bit of actual swimming and more standing and floating around enjoying the calm. The boys loved it, they like it when I come down and play with them. I wish I could manage to make time like this more often. 298 Thu, 24 Jul 2014 12:36:55 EST Family Time A few years ago I started running, but I'm a single mom and as my runs got longer I faced the delema of what to do with my kids while I run. I don't have any family support in the area. Last winter I signed them up for a run club that formed for kids. In the last 7 months, my kids have been running once a week with me (it's my easy day), but it serves as double duty as fitness for all of us and some quality time for us to spend together.
<img src=" Sun, 13 Jul 2014 15:02:31 EST First 10k under my belt
It was a beautiful morning, temps right around 60. I followed my 8 minute run 1 min walk schedule. I use Mapmyfitness to track my runs and my pace. At the first quarter I was running in the low 10's. I suspected that I couldn't keep in up, but went with it, I felt good and wanted to see what I could do. After all I was going to walk in 8 minutes. So I stayed with a large pack of people until about mile 3.5, then I... Sat, 15 Feb 2014 13:34:54 EST First 10k under my belt
It was a beautiful morning, temps right around 60. I haven't been nervous all week, but now that I'm less than 12 hours away, for that matter in 12 hours I should be done and my first 10k will be be find me. I'm getting nervous, when I've trained I've done a run walk pattern when doing the full 6.2 miles or more. But I've run a solid 5.5 miles so do I follow the run wak or do I try to run the full thing. I know I should do the run walk, that's what I planned but I'm the competitive type and I just want to ru... Fri, 14 Feb 2014 20:47:59 EST First 10k tomorrow. Well tomorrow is my first 10k. Fri, 14 Feb 2014 20:47:35 EST Working with a Trainer Again I met with my new trainer last night. The workout wasn't as tough as I expect, 1. I'm nursing a recovery a sprained wrist; 2. he doesn't know my limits and boundries. It was very good to work with someone that pushes me though. He kept me moving for the full hour and that is what I need. I am super excited to work with a trainer again. 224 Thu, 6 Feb 2014 13:31:45 EST 10k - Will I be ready Saturday, I did a run/walk of 6.3 as part of my training for my 10k. I am very excited, I did very well - 11:44 minute mile pace. I am very happy with anything under a 12 minute mile, it was a better pace than my 12 min mile pace from my 5 mile run on Thursday. I'm hoping to improve more by the 15th. I hope this isn't some type of fluke. Tomorrow I will do a workout with my kids need to pick up the distance and the pace with them. Hoping for a good workout. Mon, 20 Jan 2014 22:54:29 EST Running So I am training to run a 10K on February 15th. On Thursday nights I do my midlength run - 3.5 miles of running and .5 to a mile of walking and cool down. I live in South Florida and last night it was cold by our standards - it was in the upper 40's (sorry to all of you northerns - that are calling me a whimp.) The goal was to get the 3.5 miles done and go home. My girlfriend and I started with a half mile warm up walk - but as I said it was cold by our standards, after that we start to ... Fri, 17 Jan 2014 10:53:55 EST Skinny People Yesterday at lunch - 2 of my coworkers started talking about weight. These woman are thin. One of them was talking about being a sugar addict and complaining about dieting and how bad it was that she was no longer a size 0. She's now up to a 4 - she is only 31. The other, who is in her early 50's and is a size 6. She was talking about how her and her husband just did this crash diet for 14 days and she lost 6 pounds by eating only 500 calories a day. First that isn't even healthy and wh... Thu, 9 Jan 2014 14:39:41 EST First 5 Miler This morning I got up and ran in my first 5 miler as a pre-run to my 10k next month. I've been running with a girlfriend and we've been doing 5 mile to 5.5 mile runs for a month or so now. I'm happy to say that putting me running with a bunch of people my fear of coming in last place kicks in and I am much faster. During our training runs I think the best we did was an hour and 6 minutes for 5 miles. Today my girlfriend did 58 minutes and I was an hour and 27 seconds. I'm slightly disapp... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 12:02:03 EST Happy New Year Wow! 2013 is over already. It seems like it was just the beginning of the year and now it's gone. Some of the things that I had hoped to accomplish I have. Other things - such as that PR have elluded me. I did complete a triathlon and a fitness challenge this year - I will look to next year to get PR's on those events as well. I'd like to get my weight down more I think it would do me a lot of good in a lot of ways. My boys are starting to run with me - hopefully by the end of the new ... Tue, 31 Dec 2013 23:46:37 EST 5k Fitness Challenge Well - I didn't set a pr on the 5k portion of the run this morning, well - I don't really know because the course didn't complete the 5k at the finish before the fitness challenge began. But I now definitely have a new respect for firefighters the course was taken from some of their training techniques. Also those hoses are heavy!!! Made dragging the 40 pound kettle ball in the sand seem light. I finished the course, it was rough - it probably didn't help I started feeling sick last nigh... Sun, 29 Dec 2013 12:26:10 EST Proud Mom So this last Sunday I signed my kids up for a running club. After the 2 - 1 milers. I thought it would help them and they seem very into it right now. The goal of the club is to help the kids build endurance to complete a 5k. They did a obstacle course last week with them. They did some other exercises as well. So last night we went to the park and we did our own workout, I think they will need more than once a week to build enough endurance to do a 5k. We did burpees, hip flexors, ge... Wed, 11 Dec 2013 09:01:48 EST Turkey Trot 2013 Well I just looked at my blogs - I see that I finished the Turkey Trot 2012 in 35:08... I finished in 2013 at 35:03... Funny the Turkey Trot 2012 was the last 5k I had done. I hurt my leg in December before the 5k that I was supposed to run the entire thing - wasn't back to running until February of 2013. Then I started to train for a triathlon which I finished in June. Due to life and being lazy I haven't signed up or managed to get my but to a 5K until this year's Turkey Trot. I must s... Wed, 4 Dec 2013 13:14:51 EST First Triathlon Down and Behind Me. Well, I did it. This morning I got up at 5 am at my breakfast - drank some water and was off to the park for my first triathlon. Or I guess technically it was a mini - quarter mile swim, 11 mile bike and 3.1 mile run.

I've been training for the last 2-3 months. I have struggled with the biking, I'm a fairly decent swimmer so I wasn't too concerned about the swimming. I've been running for a year now and know that I can run 3.5 miles without issue.

Well, I learned a... Sun, 30 Jun 2013 17:44:13 EST Home Stretch I'm in the home stretch - Less than 48 hours until my triathlon. I have taken it easy this week - run walks and short bike rides. I'm still nerveous about it - I know I can finish - but I don't want to be the last one. I've had a lot stress going on lately and it has definately taken its toll as well. I haven't slept well. I'm hoping to get some good sleep tomorrow night. I know I need to so that I can do my best. I think I've gotten things under control, I at least have a date for reso... Fri, 28 Jun 2013 22:41:39 EST Approaching the first attempt at a triathlon Well I am less than 2 weeks away from my first triathlon. I know that I can complete it (barring any mishaps)... I am concerned about how well I will do though - I thought it would be enough just to do it and complete one, but now I want to be somewhat competitive. My biking time is killing me - I am a good 10-15 minutes slower than most of the competitors on the bike. Part of it is that I have a 15 year old mountain bike that I am using - I can't afford a new bike right now so I am going... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 12:59:57 EST Holiday Parade 1 mile Run Last night I completed the 1 mile run before the local parade with my 2 sons. The boys were excited they decorated their red tshirts with Christmas stickers to be festive for the parade. Everyone has had the sniffles this week so I was a little concerned, but for nothing. Joey my littlest - 6 years old took off at the start - he stayed ahead for the first quarter mile, then stayed with me for the second quarter. My oldest said he just wanted to stay the course like the turtle - he usual... Thu, 6 Dec 2012 10:25:36 EST Turkey trot Well this morning I got up predawn, not to cook a turkey but to take my 3rd attempt to run a 5k. I still was not able run the entire thing. This is very frustrating to me. I think it's that I jet don't have the ability to push myself. I do definitely run more than I have in the past. I wish I could get my diet under control ... Maybe if I wasn't carrying around the extra 15 pounds it would be easier. I finished in 35:08, so I have taken a minute off my time. Next run is a one mile fun ... Thu, 22 Nov 2012 13:21:41 EST 5K So I ran a 5K - well I ran and walked. I started out with a bunch of college kids and my ego got the best of me - the first mile was at a 10 minute pace - of course I couldn't keep that up. But I did finish in 36:17. Not too bad... need to work on pacing myself and endurance. Going to try again on the 10th of November. Since my goal is to run an entire 5k by then end of the year - I must lear to pace myself or find someone to run with me to push me more. My friend Suzan is great for kee... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 22:55:29 EST Patriot Dash Well after many obstacles I ran a 1 mile run on the 4th with my 2 sons... Yes both of them ran. We ran with another mom and her 2 sons. I was very happy with my 11.05 finish - I was even happier with Dylan's 11.53 finish and ecstatic with Joey's 12.44 finish. Our friends did not fair as well, but I think everyone had a good time.

This was the first time Joey had run, and he didn't complain he just di... Fri, 6 Jul 2012 12:52:41 EST OMG - REALLY?!?!?!? I am a junk food junky, my sweet tooth is my worst enemy. I have been trying very hard to defeat it without total luck, however, I have made amazing strides in the last few years coming down from over 200 pound to 166 with a waist of 33 inches. I was in a size 18 for clothing - now it's any where from a 6 to 10 depending on manufacturer. I feel like I'm healthy, my blood pressure is 110/70, my cholestrol was 170. I exercise regularly. My weight is 16 pounds higher than the top end of th... Tue, 17 Apr 2012 15:54:26 EST Day 1 without the gym This week my son is taking the FCAT - a standardized test that he must pass to pass to the 4th grade, so I am giving up the gym this week to make sure we are home and settled and he can get some more sleep this week. I'm concerned because my workouts suffer when I don't go to the gym. Well - I walked - very slowly for 27 minutes while the kids rode their scooters when we first came home. I have also done some lunges and squats, crunches and a plank. Not the best workout, but at least I wa... Mon, 16 Apr 2012 22:05:08 EST Life Sometimes, I really hate my life, I feel like everything is going against me. I have financial problems that I still haven't resolved from 4 years ago when my marriage ended. An ex-husband that doesn't pay child support and I have to figure out what bills are going to get paid some months when child care is higher. I haven't been on a date in nearly a year, and it seems that all the men I meet are real loosers. I work super hard at the gym and don't seem to be able to get the weight off. ... Sun, 15 Apr 2012 10:36:18 EST Running Running is always been a challenge for me. I want to do it, I just seem to have soo many troubles keeping it up. In the last few months, I've been building up running on the treadmill at the gym and there are days where I think I'm going to DIE after only 7 or 8 minutes. I walk for a few then run for a couple walk for one run for 2 and so on. Well - I've learned that if I don't give up at that 7 or 8 minute "going to die" moment and move past it continuing for the 30-35 minutes seems much... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 10:07:11 EST Tea So I've been yoyoing in my weight loss journey. Finding constant excuses to make proper eating habits... wishing for a quick fix (I know there's not one,) So for the last 2 weeks I've been very good about tracking food and I've incorporated a green/black tea mix into my diet (based on that green tea is supposed to help boost metabolism - but I don't like green tea) - I don't know about boosting my metobolism... but I am seeing a huge difference in my complexion. I was good about water in t... Wed, 7 Mar 2012 14:16:33 EST A new commitment Last winter I worked with a trainer. I reached my goal of fitting into a size six. I learned what worked for me and what didn't I learned some good eating habits. Most of the healthy meals I still follow - but the junk food junkie in me has come out. I've been eating more and more junk and at times just totally skipping healthy food and eating chips and candy instead. I have gained 10 pounds since June - and my size 6 is no longer comfortable and I hve a severe muffin top if I wear them.... Sun, 13 Nov 2011 11:12:55 EST Still Going Well outdoor runs have been missing but there was exercise at the gym this week. Went outside for a walk/run at the nature preserve again tonight. But other than the concrete walkway the roots on the paths made it difficult for any running.

I did go 3 miles - crappy time - partly due to terraine - took almost an hour. But I think I will be able to do better on the actual run. no routes and lots of other people ... Fri, 23 Sep 2011 21:44:23 EST Training Day 6 Well today was more of a day of play. We went to the playground and I walked around as the boys played, then we all walked a half mile together. I would say this would be considered more of a day of rest. Nothing with goal. We will go back to running our laps tomorrow. Dylan was upset tonight that we haven't been doing them - well part of it was he just was looking for excuses not to go to bed. But we will go back to our laps tomorrow. Sun, 18 Sep 2011 23:02:13 EST Training Day 5 Well today we went and walked on a nature trail. It was not conducive to running, but we walked 2.38 miles, lots of roots in the path. Dylan was concerned about getting lost. Part of the trail was a concrete side walk and he was convinced we were going to get lost there too. Because we were look at stuff we walked for over an hour. Not at all a good pace, but we had fun and it kept him on his feet for over an hour. <img... Sat, 17 Sep 2011 21:29:55 EST Training Day 4? Well - there was no running outside tonight. I went to the gym after work and did the elliptical and treadmill. I had full intention of coming home and running after dinner. We came home - we had dinner and I became sore while sitting around. I know bad excuse, Dylan was disappointed that we didn't go. I think tomorrow we may do a walk run for the 3.1 miles. Just so Dylan gets an idea of how long we will go for. We will have to see. I need to find a place to mark the distance so that ... Fri, 16 Sep 2011 22:56:11 EST Training Day 3 Well I ran another 1/2 mile tonight, about the same time as yesterday. Dylan didn't run with me, I took one of my dogs blue - I hoped that he would pull me a little bit, but he didn't don't know that he hurt my time. I feel so out of shape - I'm only running 1/2 a mile, but it seems like an eternity. I wonder how I'm going to make it 3.1 in 2 weeks. I've done it so I know that I can, but I definately am not getting any younger to do this. I down loaded some cadence tunes tonight, I will... Thu, 15 Sep 2011 22:50:56 EST Training Day 2 Well we did our same half mile run tonight. We or I did much better, just under 6 minutes. Dylan slacked off a little, said he got a stitch in his side. So no training tomorrow for Dylan will. Wed, 14 Sep 2011 21:04:25 EST Training Day 1 Okay, so tonight after dinner, Dylan and I went out for our first training session. We only ran 1/2 a mile to start with, neither of us has run since last spring. It took us 6.5 minutes. That's over a 13 minute mile - man I'm getting old and slow. Two years ago I could do a 10 minute mile, last year it was an 11 minute mile - now down to 13. Dylan still wants to sprint. Then he has to walk to recoup - he really needs to learn to listen. A marine I dated once said if you listen to taps... Tue, 13 Sep 2011 22:22:20 EST Lawyer's have a heart 5k Well my boss signed me up today for this 5k heart run. I told him a month ago I would do it but he didn't know if he wanted to have a team. Well today I got the confirming email that he had entered me. Good heads up - the run is October 1st - short time to get ready. I think I'm going to get Dylan in shape with me and see how well he does running. We only have a couple of weeks to train. Hopefully he will learn to pace, maybe I'll let him use my ipod. So off to fast pace training. Mon, 12 Sep 2011 23:14:42 EST Moving backwards? I turned 40 in February. I dreaded that event and now that it has come and gone I still hate the fact that I am no longer in my 30's. I worked with a trainer to try to get to my goals before I turned 40 - I didn't make my weight goal but I did make it to the size goal. My sessions with the trainer ended in May. I still want to get to my weight goal of 150 pounds. Unfortunately - I am struggling so much with this goal. I have no will power. In March - I broke the 160-barrier. I promi... Sun, 14 Aug 2011 09:22:19 EST Frustration!!! So I've been kinda lax since working with my trainer, no one to scrutenize me.. but I've been watching the scale and I've pretty much yo-yoed in a 3 pound range below 160. Well last weekend I was 160.2 - went above the number I worked so hard to get below. So this week - I was extra dilligent with diet and stayed below 25% fat all week and most days below 20%..I worked out every day - I've drank all my water...and the scale did come down a little...1.4 pounds - I was hoping for at least 2.... Sat, 23 Jul 2011 15:17:25 EST My Little Runner My oldest son is doing a Fun Run Fundraiser at school tomorrow. I am kinda disappointed because of time and where I work I will not be able to watch him run. Each lap is 1/16 of a mile. I was required to get pledges for the laps that he was anticipated to complete. The maximum that they are allowed to do it 35 laps. Unfortunately I don't think he will complete them. We live in Florida and physical education is the bottom of the list of things - they have a required 30 minutes of activit... Tue, 17 May 2011 22:17:24 EST Motivation Needed! So I have been dragging lately.. I just can't seem to get out of this slump. I am down to the final 3 sessions with my trainer. And I want to kick some serious butt - but I just can't seem to stick to my diet - thankfully I've been pretty good with the exercise. But I really need to get my butt into gear on this food. I've been slacking on tracking - dessert has become a daily event. And that might not be bad if it was a not totally kill the day choice. Like one cookie or fruit... But o... Sat, 14 May 2011 23:10:56 EST Better run Well I practiced my one mile run again today, and am happy to report that I did a 10.53 that is good for me and a minute faster than last time. I was down a pound today and feeling good. Well I think part of it was the new guy I went out with last night too. Starting to feel more self confident. Ready to tackle the world. I can't believe how much my life has changed in the last 3 years. All for the better. Sun, 27 Mar 2011 22:07:31 EST 3 Weeks. Well Dylan and I will be doing out next 1 mile run on April 16th. Hopefully he can pace better this time and we can both do better than our 11:08 mile in December. I did a mile last week to only do 11:50 - but without any pressure - I'm slow to push myself. He will also have a swim meet that day - wow - it will be a busy day for him - Swimming is definately his stronger suit but I think he can run he just has to learn to pace. I was going to take him on a practice run this weekend but... Sun, 20 Mar 2011 22:56:25 EST Almost BDay Ok - it's Thursday night - Saturday is my BDay.. I did not reach my 150 goal, but I did reach my size 6. I have my dress - I got it from Victoria's Secret. It's very tight fitting and not forgiving on showing the flaws. I am a little nerveous about wearing it, my friends have supported me and tell me that it will be fine and I look great.

I have been working out extra hard trying to cut off as much as the belly flab as possible. I wish there was just a magic pill to make it al... Thu, 24 Feb 2011 23:16:03 EST One week. Well one week until my big 40. Well - I'm probably not going to reach my 150 goal but I don't know that I care - I did reach my size 6 goal. I am now officially under 160 - 159 - but hey it progress. I'm starting to feel better about me. One of my guy friends has really noticed the difference. Always feel good when the guys notice. I am have a night out on the town next week for my birthday next weekend. I ordered a dress online - the dress looked a little more forgiving on the model ... Sat, 19 Feb 2011 18:37:52 EST Still Sick Well I'm still sick and it's officially been a week since my last workout. I am feeling very guilty. I walked to get lunch today a whole .63 mile ans it wore me out. I hate this feeling, I am so frustrated and my eating is sufering too cause I don't have the energy to cook, and I am grabbing quick things to eat. I wish I lost my appetite with this illness but no such luck. Tue, 8 Feb 2011 20:22:28 EST
