As well, I became a member of the Lime Team for BLC. I did that for years but several years ago I began to have some physical health issued and dropped out.

This year has been a much better year. I began the year with physical therapy, moved on improving my diet, started back with a trainer (and the gym) and - of course - asked if I could come back to the Lime Team.

Being a member of the Lime Team has be... Wed, 16 Aug 2017 15:21:00 EST No - I can't eat kale!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6396726 Kale, kale everywhere and not a bit can I eat!

All of a sudden, kale is in everything and almost every recipe has kale. We love the chopped salads they have out now, but almost every one of them has kale in it. Either we go for something else or I pick out the kale as I eat.

Kale is just too hard on my digestive system - I guess it is too "tough" and I can't seem to digest it the way I should. No problem with lettuce or spinach -or even swiss chard, but kale is not a g... Sun, 6 Aug 2017 16:15:57 EST Trying again...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6375487 Wow - I had not realized how long I had been away until I saw the last blog.

I have been away from both exercising and sparkpeople for quite some time. I had some physical issues as a result of crossfit. Just way too much for a woman my age. I loved it but it caused issues. I ended up with bursitis (caused by stepups and squats - just too many) and aggravation of arthritis in my hip. This was about two and a half years ago. I just hurt and could not get the hip thing under control... Thu, 15 Jun 2017 11:07:55 EST Two Truths and a Dream http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5963327 Our challenge for the Biggest Loser Diamonds team, week six , is to post two truths and one dream. The challenge is to figure which is true and which is the dream.

Here goes!

1. I have been to Mt. Rushmore four times in my life.

2. I rented a cottage in Scotland for a week

3. I had a magazine article written about my kidney donation to my husband

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 17:44:27 EST A step back in time...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5959641 Years ago, I loved to sew, quilt and embroider - and I do mean years ago - probably 20 to 25. I kind of got out of the habit, as things in life heated up. Always too busy and always other things going on both with work and otherwise.

I have a pair of curtains that cover a small bedroom closet instead of a closet door. They have probably been there 30 years! Today, I decided I was going to get some fabric and sew some new curtains for that doorway.

What fun! I had forgo... Sun, 12 Jul 2015 16:29:21 EST Spring Activities http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5911810 I am feeling very positive regarding the spring of 2015 and hope to be able to do more for my health.

First, I have been very determined to do some things around the house. We have some painting to do, and some odds and ends to take care of. Besides providing needed activity, it will benefit that positive state of mind.

Also, I am hoping to get this arthritis in order once I see the doctor. That will help with physical activity and gym time in general.

My ... Wed, 15 Apr 2015 12:46:06 EST Arthritis http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5904789 Well, getting old sure stinks!

I went to the doctor yesterday for my annual physical. Everything okay other than I wanted to talk to her about my left leg. It has been bothering me off and on for over a year. Last year, she said it was trochanteric bursitis. Off an on it hurts and pains me to walk. It has really affected my gym time as I was never sure what would or would not set it off.

Well, this time she took and xray. I have a good amount of arthritis in that hip an... Fri, 3 Apr 2015 11:46:08 EST 2015 - Goals so Far http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5877955 I feel like I am well on my way to accomplishing my 2015 goals. So far, so good - I have been very conscious of what I am eating and, as a result, have begun to slowly drop the weight.
I can tell -clothes fit better and I feel better.
Now, if the weather would clear up and the snow would melt, I could accomplish the rest of my goal which is to spend more time outside!! Wed, 18 Feb 2015 08:59:19 EST 2015 - A Brand New Year http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5847853 For once, I am actually looking forward to the new year. I feel very positive about 2015 and am looking forward to meeting some goals. I have had some good success with moderation and clean eating in my diet, which I hope to continue. Last year, I did not get outside as much as I should have and I have plans in mind to remedy that. There are things to be done around the house, and I can hardly wait for the warm weather to get started!
Lets hope this positive feeling lasts for the entire... Tue, 6 Jan 2015 16:45:10 EST Outcome of Diamond Fall Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5819616 I am pleased - think I finally got two goals that were manageable and doable.

My two goals were to be conscious of the type and quality of food, and to watch portion sizes. I did make a good effort for this and actually have lost some weight.

Maybe I have found two of the keys I need to keep healthy and successfully manage my weight. Wed, 19 Nov 2014 15:25:31 EST Diamond Fall Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5781598 One very simple goal that seems to work. If I can follow this, I should see results:

Be conscious of the type and quality of food you are eating
Be conscious of the TRUE portion size of the food.

Nuff said! Wed, 17 Sep 2014 11:24:11 EST Diamond Summer Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5719234 My summer goals will be as follows:

1. Watch your eating - paying attention to what goes in my mouth has helped.

2. Minimum of two gym visits a week - getting a little lax in this area. I need to really concentrate on what was once a strength. I can do this.

Two simple goals - should be easy to do!! Mon, 16 Jun 2014 15:47:14 EST Darn Leg! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5692524 Well, finally found out what has been causing off and on problems with my left leg. It would hurt, it would stiffen up - and this has been going on since last fall. I thought it was sciatica, but it was isolated in one spot. Walking too much or standing on concrete bothered me, but rowing, bicycling did not. I was so frustrated! I was beginning to think I was going to have to live with this forever!

Finally asked the doctor this week when I went for my annual physical. I should h... Sun, 11 May 2014 09:59:59 EST Diamond Team Spring Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5651421 I am going to do two important, but attainable, goals. When I get too lengthy or try to set goals I know I won't be able to commit to, it really doesn't work.

1. Complete the Diamond Team weekly challenges.
The challenges are important and I kind of got out of the habit of making sure I participated in them for the winter challenge.

2. Practice Mindful Eating
Tracking is the best way, but with time committments, I start out great and then the tracking falls b... Wed, 19 Mar 2014 09:37:00 EST Floor Presses - A great way to end October http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5531081 October was a month of change for me - I changed my workouts and schedule, time changed, my eating habits changed - and all seem to be for the better.

My eating in October was much better, and the scale has started to slowly move downward. Makes me wonder if I wasn't pushing my body so hard physically that it held on to its nourishment for dear life. I feel pretty comfortable that I can keep my eating habits regular and healthy.

Workout -wise, I added in yoga once a we... Sun, 3 Nov 2013 16:30:27 EST October Reset- I need to do something different http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5511750 Well, I knew it was coming - and I finally got the guts to pick October as the month.

I decided for the month of October to stop Crossfit and go back to the standard "meat & potatoes" free weight strength training with my beloved trainer of 6 years, supplemented with cardio, and, hopefully yoga when the class starts up . I need to do this - I honestly think I am overtraining. For about the past four or five months, in particular, I have just been so sore, so tight - no matter ho... Sat, 12 Oct 2013 19:05:42 EST My first Yoga Class http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5502933 I have wanted to take a real yoga class for a long time. I have kind of played around with moves that I have found in magazine articles, but I know it is not the same thing. Age, Crossfit, and sitting a lot for work have played havoc with making my muscles and tendons tight so I really wanted to do this in an effort to help my flexibility and mobility.

My husband works for a small private training gym, and they were hosting a free yoga class as a test to see if they had enough cl... Wed, 2 Oct 2013 21:56:18 EST Diamond Team BLC Fall Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5486389 My summer goals were very minimal and geared more towards fun and enjoying my summer. Fall is the time to get serious. I need tangible and achievable goals, yet I want to push myself a little.

1. Eat at least one more vegetable a day than I have been.

2. Lose some amount of weight - I don't care how much - just "some". If I tie myself to an actual number, I know I will get discouraged and want to give up. At this time, any loss is a good loss.

3. Take a yog... Sun, 15 Sep 2013 16:57:56 EST Fun (or is it work?!) in the Sun http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5406652 I think my fun in the sun was more work than play, but it was so good to be outside in the fresh air!

Over the last two days, we did a lot of work outside mulching flower beds, pulling weeds, repotting and tending to the orchids, etc.

One thing we did do was something I always wanted - an outdoor fountain! We always would look, but never buy. Much as I love the fountains, I just couldn't justify to myself spending money for something that just recirculates water. But ... When you work out, give it your best effort.

2. Don't forget me - I always am doing or thinking of others. I need to pamper myself and make sure to do something just for me.

3. Thu, 13 Jun 2013 19:50:00 EST What I learned about myself from the Crossfit Open http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5313553 I have been doing Crossfit for a couple years, but never participated in the Open - just didn't think I was good enough. I had never in my life participated in an athletic contest of any type, so it was just a bit daunting to even think of doing so at 56 years of age.

However, I really wanted to do it - just for me. After talking with Coach, I was greatly encouraged to sign up, give my best, and do it as a competition against myself, not others.

Now that all five worko... Sat, 6 Apr 2013 11:09:34 EST BL Spring Challenge - Focus goal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5292737 I usually start out the challenge with big plans and several goals. I think at times I lose my way and forget some of the goals I set.
For that reason I have one goal and one goal only:

1. LOG MY FOOD DAILY

Of all the slip ups and trip ups I have along the way, this is the major reason for failing to meet my goals. If I don't log my food, I have a tendency to either make inappropriate choices, or overdo the portion size.

If I can remember and accomplis... I was clumsy and very unathletic.

I made up my mind that I wanted to participate in the Crossfit open. I didn't want to "win" - heck I didn't even care if I came in last! I just wanted to, at some point in my life, participate in an athletic competition - even if it had taken me until the advanced age of 56 to do it!

I went in Friday night, very nervous and stressed. The workout was a progression of 40 burpees (ending w... Sat, 9 Mar 2013 16:30:52 EST Stress Relief http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5170339 This is always a stressful time of year for me. Nothing in my personal life - but work is a bear. I work in business insurance and it seems like everyone has a policy coming up on 12/31 or 1/1. I always say I look forward to retirement so I can actually enjoy the month of December!

I have two main stress relievers:

1. Go to the gym!
Even if I feel worn out and don't want to go, I make an effort to get there. I always feel energized and rejuvenated.

2. L... When I was going to my old gym, I could do them on my knees, but never the "real ones". In fact, I was never anywhere close to the real ones! I would start at the top and drop like a sack of moldy potatoes to the ground!

But they are getting better and growing on me. I started Crossfit not quite two years ago, and while I love it, I never have thought of myself as "good enough" to do any kind of competition. I have never participated in any of the challenges or competitions because I am afraid to fail.

When they had the open workouts earlier this year, I, as with last year, did not sign up - alt... Fri, 7 Sep 2012 20:37:00 EST The end of summer..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5022436 I entered the BLC Limes summer challenge with the best of intentions. It's summer, right? Lots of fresh fruits and veggies, lots of activity and reasons to be outdoors.

While my activity and exercise levels have been great, my eating habits have been horrific.

My weight loss has either been minimal or non existant. I made two mistakes - I stopped tracking food, and I then let my eating habits get out of hand. The five chocolate chip cookies yesterday were the drive hom... Sun, 19 Aug 2012 22:02:33 EST Status - Mid summer goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4970925 I began summer with some rather unusual goals related more to the quality of life rather than focusing on food and weight. So far, I have done good, and I think my outlook and attitude have improved as a result.

1. "Have a wonderful and festive 4th of July" - very definitely! Family picnic at my brothers with lots of fireworks and fun!

2. Get outside more - Would give this a so-so. Sun, 15 Jul 2012 08:35:13 EST Summer http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4933497 I always do season goals and they are always related to exercise, eating, weight, etc. I am trying something a little different. Those things should be lifestyle, not goals, and I feel like I am just recycling from season to season. So here are my summer goals:

1. Have a wonderful and festive 4th of July
2. Get outside more
3. Go swimming more often while the weather is warm
4. Spend more time with friends and family
5. Ain't nobody else gonna know the way she feels...!)?

Last night's workout was "Helen" - 3 rounds for time - run 400m, 21 kettlebell swings, 12pull ups.

Due to my SI joint problems, I have not run since early April. While not what I want, it has truly been an eye opener that there is always a scale and always a substitution that can be made in Crossf... Tue, 5 Jun 2012 07:23:01 EST Spring Recap http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4893376 I began spring with the best of intentions. I think a lot of things went right. I also had setbacks, but not anything I can't deal with.

What went right:
First, I think I finally got the food tracking and diet in hand. I tried so hard to do paleo and it just wasn't working - I just could not get it right. I found I bruised easier (not sure where that was coming from) and seemed to have nagging injuries (like tendonitis in my elbow) that just wouldn't go away. Once I just went... I think the 2 minutes rest in between is what throws you off when you look at it. "Two minutes rest! - this will be eeeaaasy!"
Even though we all concentrated on t... Tue, 10 Apr 2012 17:08:19 EST Sprints (Revisited) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4822129 Last time we did sprints was the beginning of February in the dark and with light swirling snow. I had not done sprints before - what fun we had! I am not the best of runners, but I loved the sprints! The distance is short enough and there is that slight rest that is enough to keep me going. In February, coach scaled me to 50M sprints instead of 100M.

This time, it was EMOM for 10 minutes. Do 10 air squats and sprint 100M. I admit it- I am slow. I have been working with him for almost 5 years, but, stubborn me, have blown off any talk of nutrition. He knew I would come to him when I was ready, and I did. Sat, 21 Jan 2012 20:08:40 EST 2012 - Let the year begin http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4648926 I am not normally one to make New Year's resolutions. But we went to dinner last night with my niece, her husband and my brother, and she asked what everyone's resolutions were. With that, and the Lime Challenge, it made me a little more thoughtful of what I would like to get out of the coming year.

1. Don't feel guilty.
No matter whether it is food, time, exercise.....don't weigh yourself down with guilt. Life is what it is - make the best of it and enjoy what is given to y... Sun, 18 Dec 2011 14:41:20 EST Back Squats and Pull ups - A good week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4611718 Last week was a good week at Crossfit. Sometimes I underestimate myself, and for that reason, maybe I don't see progress the way I should. Thank goodness for the help and encouragement of others and the help they offer!

One night, we did max rep back squats. I did look up my last one a number of months back - 73 #. For some reason, I always look up the weight ones, because I do want to try to do better. I never look up the number of rounds or rep ones - always afraid I will eithe... Sun, 4 Dec 2011 11:22:10 EST Thoughts on the Fall Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4585836 I am not sure what I expected going into the challenge - not having done this before. But thinking about it at the end of the 10 weeks, I must say I am overwhelmed by the support and encouragement from my teammates. I came into this wanting to lose weight, and lost 7 pounds- pretty close to what I expected - about a pound a week.

But I don't think I could have done it without the team. The support and accountability to my fellow team members are what made this the success it is... Tue, 15 Nov 2011 17:16:34 EST
