OBIESMOM2's SparkPeople Blog OBIESMOM2's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community happy birthday, mom! Today is my mother's birthday. She went out to dinner with her DH & a friend of theirs who is staying with them for a few days.

My mom is pretty darn amazing. I know lots of people feel that way about their mom, but mine is REALLY special.

She can do ANYTHING. My parents divorced when I was in first grade. Mother worked full time and raised 2 kids. Part of that time, she also went to school.

When we were little, the woman mom paid to cut our hair cut it... Mon, 31 Aug 2015 23:18:44 EST 10 days in the hospital & counting my sister, Dyan, had her second surgery on Thursday. One week to the day after the initial surgery. The med teams were concerned because spinal fluid was leaking out her nose. Sounds much scarier than it is. Seems it's fairly common following the type of procedures she had.

Once again, it took longer than they expected. She may have a case for malpractice against at least one of the doctors she had seen prior to finally getting some answers and something that produced results.... Sat, 29 Aug 2015 23:00:28 EST what a difference a day makes (part 3) - where we learn the BLESSING of a sleepless night my sister asked me to spend Saturday night at the hospital with her.

I finished up a few things at the office and stopped by Kroger on my way home. Dyan loves fruit salad and I wanted to make some for her. She also wanted some bananas. The plums looked really good, so I grabbed a few of those.

When I got home, I finished the laundry I started before I left the house, made Dy's fruit salad, then took a shower. After I threw together everything I thought we might nee... Once that is done, I can go online and schedule spay/neuter appointments. They'll need a day or two of rest following surgery, then they are ready to go.

The boys (Murphy and Bernie Mac) will go to a rescue agency in Cartersville, GA. (part 1) where we learn it's okay to end a Spark streak my sister (Dyan) was in surgery for over 6 hours...and she didn't even get to the OR until after 1! Yesterday seemed like the longest day ever. Probably doesn't help when your day starts shortly after 1AM due to insomnia, huh?

I skipped spin class yesterday morning AND I drank Diet Coke. I don't feel bad abut either one.

When it was time to leave for spin class, I was fe... Fri, 21 Aug 2015 03:22:00 EST surgery day - FINALLY my sister (Dyan) will be having brain surgery today to remove a benign tumor on her pituitary gland. Minimum 4 days in the hospital. Tomorrow is her birthday.

the good news is they will NOT have to cut her skull; they will go in through the nasal passage.

I'll be doing my waiting at the office

how about a Throw Back Thursday pic?

that's Dyan on the left a... Tue, 18 Aug 2015 02:14:13 EST my Sunday run (including playlist) if you read my blog yesterday, you know I had a very busy day. One of those 'Army' mornings - "we do more before 6am than most people do all day".

I have been doing my Sunday morning run on a sidewalk that runs beside a state hwy near my house. I had been going to the park, but there are areas at the back of the track around the perimeter of the park that are rather isolated. NOT a good idea for anyone alone. A really BAD idea for a female alone. As the instructor told us in t... Sun, 16 Aug 2015 06:25:40 EST a low key Saturday...the best kind! the pups woke me up E A R L Y wanting to get out of the crate. Last night they all slept together in Jack's big crate. But they were apparently thirsty. I opened the back door so they could go out, and as soon as I unlatched the crate door they made a mad rush for the water bowls.

being puppies, they wanted to play instead of going back to sleep. Okay...I'll just let them play for a while, and they can get out if they need to.

But Omar started barking. He's the re... Sat, 15 Aug 2015 20:39:02 EST a change of plans the surprise addition of 3 puppies (bringing our total dog count to SIX!) meant that I didn't make it to Tabata class this morning.

I thought I would have to crate the pups all day, and I didn't want to add 2 1/2 - 3 hours to that time (I would leave the house at least 2 1/2 hours before my usual time to make it to the 6am class).

so I opened the backdoor and let them go in and out while I got ready for work. Kettle bell swings, squats, pull ups, burpees, push-ups, air bikes, and some jumping rope, running, and the rowing machine.

When I left I decided to go for a bike ride. Tue, 7 Jul 2015 22:44:13 EST something old...something new...something borrowed that describes my recent workouts -
something old: we had a break in the rain while I was off work on Friday, so I dug around and found my old inline skates. I managed to get in 40 minutes of skating. Now I need to get new wheels if I want to keep skating as part of my regimen. They were probably starting to dry rot, and after 40 minutes of asphalt, the wheels are shredded. I felt some new sore muscles from skating, so I would like to continue skating a few times a month.
<BR... Mon, 6 Jul 2015 22:39:35 EST things you wish you didn't know from time to time, we all find out things about people in our lives we wish we didn't know. Sometimes it involves a family member, sometimes a close friend, or maybe just an acquaintance or a co-worker.

one time I heard part of a phone call between my sister and this loser guy she was dating for about 3 weeks...concerning me. Sun, 5 Jul 2015 22:30:30 EST running in Germany and Utah (and a great way to lace your running shoes!) it's a rainy July 4th in Georgia. I had planned to go to the YMCA for a swim and then go for a bike ride...but that's not gonna happen today.

so, I could either get on the elliptical at home (my least favorite cardio machine ever), or use the treadmill at the Y. Sat, 4 Jul 2015 12:58:00 EST it all depends on your point of view... this one went around on Facebook a while back -

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash out. “That laundry is not very clean; she doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.”

Her husband looks on, but says nothing.

Every time her neighbor hangs her wash out to dry, the young woman makes the same comment.

A... Fri, 3 Jul 2015 23:02:19 EST Meemaw's Egg I'm going to share one of my favorite blogs by Jenny Lawson (The Bloggess). She is a blogger from TX. To me, it's one of the best stories I've read:

Meemaw died yesterday, at the age of 80.

If you've read here long enough, you already know Meemaw. Sat, 18 Apr 2015 04:19:30 EST I've got a secret about 7 or 8 years ago the company that I work for was working on a renovation of the training center at our main campus in St. Louis. As part of this project, they wanted to use photos of employees in the training center. I'm not sure why, or how, or even WHO chose the people, but for some reason I was one of the folks they picked.

so they sent a professional photographer around to the various offices (I'm in GA). Sat, 28 Mar 2015 21:38:49 EST weekly exercise recap it's been an EXCELLENT week.

Sunday morning I usually do a 5 mile run/walk (weather permitting), but I had done more running than usual the week before, so I opted for Pilates (see my March 18th blog for recommendations on Pilates DVDs). After church, I went to the office and got my bike ready for the season (making sure the tires were inflated, chain in good condition, etc.) and went for a bike ride. Beautiful day!

Monday morning I took the 6AM Functional Fitness cla... Sat, 21 Mar 2015 23:11:14 EST recommended Pilates DVDs I started doing Pilates at the YMCA several years ago. If you've never done Pilates, it's a good idea (if possible) to take a few instructor lead classes to get the form and breathing techniques right.

over the years, I've found 3 Pilates DVDs that I absolutely LOVE. Yes, I've bought a few others, but they go in the 'donate' box...just not for me.

my first 'find' was Dina Matty's PILATES WITH WORKOUT CIRCLE.
<img src=" Wed, 18 Mar 2015 04:53:22 EST combining Spark recipes

l.asp?recipe=871817

plus

l.asp?recipe=2636765

equals
4 30 4 30 4 30
Sunday we had a crock pot lunch at church. Tue, 24 Feb 2015 15:27:57 EST but...I don't want to! one of the quotes from a Spark email that I read today: "Find a workout partner. Tue, 6 May 2014 06:07:56 EST being a Team Leader is a learning process! at the end of last year I became a team leader.
