NYX_2013's SparkPeople Blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal.asp?id=NYX%5F2013 NYX_2013's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community SparkPeople.com http://assets2.sparkpeople.com/assets/nav/logo_spark.gif http://www.sparkpeople.com/ I should QUIT http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5594869 I don't make New Years Resolutions, but if I were going to make one, it would be to quit the gym that I pay for every month and never go to. Hundreds of dollars down the drain every year and yet I can't seem to make myself walk in there and QUIT.

I have a desk job, so I do make the effort to exercise everyday, or at least I try to .. a 2 mile walk most mornings and a least a few RAE's every day (I just learned that acronym, Random Acts of Exercise.. I like it, and I do them!! ... Wed, 15 Jan 2014 14:53:53 EST Day 106: 42 days since my last confession, I mean blog. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5533991 Okay... blogging is not really my thing, but I can concede it's value if only because it makes you 'think' about what you are trying to achieve.

I reached my first weight loss goal of 25 lbs in my goal time frame.. whoo hoo!! I feel GREAT!! But..

I set a new goal of another 10 lbs, and I lost 4, then gained 2 back in the past month. Maybe I've been celebrating my first goal more than I should have. Ugg. 24

Also, I just realized that I need to... Wed, 6 Nov 2013 13:52:28 EST Day 63: Bought a FitBit Flex http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5494913 I often don't have time to go to the gym, so my goal this month is to get those '10,000 steps' in consistently. I had a little clip on pedometer, but I bought the FitBit hoping for more consistency and more accuracy. I'm finding the 'sleep' info is VERY interesting.. lol. Plus it gives me more credit than I gave myself on my fitness tracker.. but I suppose it doesn't matter as long as my method of recording is consistent. I only have 3 lbs to go to reach my first goal. Wish me luck.
... Tue, 24 Sep 2013 13:15:51 EST Day 47: Spark Ap Disappointment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5480025 I was camping this past weekend and was prepared to use the Spark Ap on my Galaxy 3 phone for the first time.. I was disappointed. I found it cumbersome and could not access my "Groupings" that I use constantly. Guess I have to do some research on it's use.
However.. on a positive note, I had a GREAT weekend and even managed to stick with my eating plan.. whoot! Sun, 8 Sep 2013 23:05:22 EST Day 40: Plateau already?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5473113 Rather than set a long-term weight loss goal which I figured would seem to large to ever reach, I set a short-term and hopefully attainable one. That was 40 days ago.

First few weeks were incredibly successful ... I was excited and motivated... but to be honest, I was depriving myself of things that I knew I'd not give up forever.. ie: my Happy Hour beverage. I decided this was unrealistic, so I started having the odd one, still watching to stay within my calorie allowance. ... Mon, 2 Sep 2013 01:53:15 EST Day 32: Empty Nester http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5465207 My daughter moved into her dorm at the university today. I'm incredibly excited for her, but I'm feeling the "empty nest" blues already. I almost wish I were an emotional eater as I want an outlet, but I guess an Advil will have to do.
46 Sat, 24 Aug 2013 21:22:46 EST Day 29: I got caught!! LOL http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5462098 Everyone was out of the office.. my chance to get in a little exercise!
I turned on the 10 minute Kick Boxing Video.. was half way through when the guys returned!! Caught in the act... just a WEE bit embarrassing! LOL Wed, 21 Aug 2013 14:16:51 EST Day26: Softball Umpire http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5459308 I play softball which barely qualifies as a ''fitness activity", but I'm also a softball umpire where I am almost constantly on the move for 80 minutes/game. I umped 4 games on Saturday and 3 today, Sunday. Every muscle in my body is protesting.
How do I put THAT in my fitness tracker?? 24 Sun, 18 Aug 2013 22:28:34 EST Day 18: Can exercise be addicting? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5451216 When I came down the stairs this morning, I went back up 3 times before coming back down to start the coffee. Thought that was a cool idea, so I did that several times today. I also found myself marching in place for 10 minutes during a work break, and did not beg off taking the dog for a longer walk. Stoked and feeling more energized ... what else can I do today without throwing my schedule off totally?? Hmmmm.... lol Sat, 10 Aug 2013 22:02:08 EST Day 16: Back to the Gym.. really?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5449093 I joined a gym over two years ago.. never walked through the front door since the day I joined. It's been an expensive impulse.

So, last week I went in for the first time... needless to say they were a little shocked to see me. I booked and attended my 'evaluation', a requirement for which I'd had to pay when I joined (2 years ago), which was basically a tour around the gym and showing me how to use a few of the machines. Hmmm..

Anyway.. this morning I went to try it... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 17:21:59 EST Day 12: On the Road http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5444197 Dinner party last night... food intake was monitored and reasonably successful... but my biggest calorie intake for the day was alcohol... not that much, but it adds up quick.

As of this afternoon we are on the road for a few days, visiting friends at Mt. Baker WA, and then to a Mariners/Blue Jays game in Seattle Monday.

My Challenges::

How can I monitor what I'm doing?
ANS: I purchased the Spark People App for my phone.

What can I take ac... Sun, 4 Aug 2013 13:30:33 EST Day 10: Pasta Love http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5442353 Pasta .. I love pasta and have not had any for several weeks.
Last night I made some with a Pesto and Prawns.. and it was SO GOOD. It was terribly difficult to resist eating the whole bowl! Fortunately my daughter ate the leftovers and took the temptation away.
I know that pasta is going to be my biggest hurtle.. I love it. I'm a good cook and I can make reasonably 'healthy' pasta recipes, but I don't like whole wheat pasta and I always want to eat more than one serving. <BR... Fri, 2 Aug 2013 13:34:51 EST Day 6: Survived the Weekend! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5437454 Even with a house party on Saturday and a family dinner on Sunday, I managed to stay on track with my food choices. Limited fat intake, and gall bladder is staying quiet. Whoot!

I'm still recovering slightly from my hospital stay so exercise has been limited to gardening etc, but it's PROGRESS!!

B. Mon, 29 Jul 2013 13:49:08 EST Day 1: Time to get serious about my health http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5432638 July 24, 2013

Just returned home from 5 days in hospital due to Gall Bladder complications. First time in my LIFE that I've been in hospital for a 'medical' reason. (I've had accidents and broken countless bones, but never ever had any health issues.)

Although I've been overweight now for 20 years, I'm very active and pretty healthy for my age..... but this has brought me to my knees. Obviously I'm not healthy 'enough', not active 'enough' and not fit 'enough'. Obes... Thu, 25 Jul 2013 03:22:32 EST
