NOTSOFLUFFYDAD's SparkPeople Blog NOTSOFLUFFYDAD's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Life is good! I did not realize that it has been 5 months since my last blog!

They say life can be like a roller coaster. I say that is somewhat of an understatement! So I wanted to write today to tell you how I am doing. I. Reached my first weight loss goal 151 days ago.... I couldn’t believe it either, but yes it has been 5 months! If anybody had told me I could lose all this weight and feel this much better 2 years ago, I would have laughed my butt off. Thinking back at where I was then, the... Tue, 31 Oct 2017 17:15:53 EST GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLL!!!!!! I haven't blogged for a few weeks because I have been so busy!!!

I reached my high end goal weight and beyond on May 25th. which was our 15 year wedding anniversary. This week I have maintained that weight and hope to continue to do so from here on out. I can not believe the progress I was abler to make. I never would have believed that having bariatric surgery would have been so successful for me. But, in 47 weeks, I have lost 183 pounds, 18 pant sizes from a 50-52 to a 34 and I f... Fri, 2 Jun 2017 11:06:07 EST ONEDERLAND!!!!!!!!! I AM ON TOP OF THE WORLD!!!

I can not believe it!! I had my weight loss surgery just 2 days short of 10 months ago. The day I met with the surgeon was exactly one year ago today. I was living my life in a bed or wheelchair, in immense amounts of pain constantly, unable to dress myself and needing assistance with basically just about everything. My dear wife had lived through 14 years of my health problems and something had to change. I had already been told by the surgeon that with... Thu, 4 May 2017 19:05:48 EST Week 42 Another 2 weeks has gone by and I am inching ever closer to Onederland!

Right now, though, I am having a major struggle with my mental state. I have some pretty bad depression going on and yesterday I think I almost hit rock bottom. It's the worst it has been in over 10 years. I have no idea why really. It's probably a combination of things including the horrible weather we have had this year in Washington State. As of today, we have had almost 50 inches of rain since October plus ... Thu, 27 Apr 2017 13:06:04 EST Week 40 It has been just over 9 months since I had my Gastric Sleeve surgery. I can not even begin to describe the rush of emotions I feel on a daily basis. I never knew I could feel this good or look so good. When you live in a body of over 300 pounds for 38 years, it's impossible to know what you would look like as a thinner, healthier person. I am still taken back every time I see myself in the mirror. I still have to look twice some days. I have never known what it was like to weigh in the 200's,... Thu, 13 Apr 2017 14:09:31 EST Week 39 Time is flying by!!!

We are so busy!! It seems as if we are always on the go, doing something with the kids, keeping up with our spiritual routine.... there truly is not enough time in a day, week or month.

I am feeling so great now!! I never knew that I could or would ever feel this good in my life, especially approaching 50. This is the healthiest I have ever been in my life and I plan on staying that way. Getting regular exercise, eating right with an occasional trea... Thu, 6 Apr 2017 19:57:40 EST Week 37 Things are continually busy around here! I am still doing very well and losing weight. I am down over 150 pounds now!! I am still getting plenty of exercise, but I really need to do some serious muscle building. Thu, 23 Mar 2017 14:42:53 EST Week 35 I have been battling depression for the past couple of days. With all the snow that continues to fall here in our area, it has been a struggle for me. We have now eclipsed 4 feet of snow for the year, the worst winter we have had in 10 years. I said I wanted to see some snow this year, but this is ridiculous. Spring can't come soon enough for me, better yet bring on summer.

Somehow, I have manged to continue to lose weight. I have raised my calorie level just a bit to slow down th... Thu, 9 Mar 2017 11:14:28 EST Week 34 What a roller coaster we have been on the last week. But all things have worked out for the best.

I was supposed to be leaving for California tomorrow to move my mom. I was not really looking forward to it at all, and I thought that it was not a good idea and not in her best interests. I kept that to myself though. When I went to see her last week, she was literally shaking. We talked and come to find out, she was having major anxiety and doubts about the move. So, I did a little m... Thu, 2 Mar 2017 09:30:14 EST Week 33 I can tell that my body is slowing down on weight loss. I'm pretty sure my stress level has something to do with it. I'm supposed to move my mom to California next weekend. I am not sure that it's a good idea, but it's what she wants. I don't have much else to say this week. I did manage a very small loss, not what I have become accustomed to. Thu, 23 Feb 2017 22:57:34 EST Week 32 It's hard to believe how fast this year is going by!! We are already half way through February!! Lots of changes since the first of the year in our home have made for some very interesting challenges but also some wonderful blessings.

Since the first of the year, our family has been quite busy. We have being growing closer as a family. We have added a wonderful spiritual routine which has resulted in many blessings. Our daughter decided she wanted to go back to brick and mortar sch... Thu, 16 Feb 2017 10:18:08 EST 6 month checkup and beyond I can not believe how busy we are now! It seems as if we never stop being on the move lately, literally. This last few days has slowed us down though with the nasty crud going around.

In the last two weeks, I have had 3 doctors and one nutritionist appointment. Almost all of my blood tests are phenominal, just a couple of vitamins a little bit low, but we will get that fixed. All followups were stellar, so I am on cloud nine. This decision has literally saved my life in more ways t... Thu, 9 Feb 2017 12:30:40 EST Weeks 27-29 Oh My Goodness, Where in the world has time gone already?!?!?!?????!!!! It's almost February!! I have been so unbelievably busy since the first of the year.

We have made so many wonderful changes within our little family since the first of the year. Tami and I are now getting up each morning and starting our day off by reading and discussing the Bible together, we have individual studies with kids from the Bible and then every Saturday we are doing a family worship night. We have i... Thu, 26 Jan 2017 10:04:46 EST Weeks 24-26 I can't believe that I haven't blogged in three weeks, but since week 23, we have endured another family tragedy and bad revelations. Let's just say that it has not been very easy.

The holiday season was rough for my wife because of losing her mom in July. I have done everything I can to be there for her. Add to that, her sister has been in and out of the hospital several times. She has Pancreatitis and a blockage between her Pancreas and her Liver. They put a stint in to see if th... Thu, 5 Jan 2017 10:55:54 EST Week 23 Wow has the time flown by! It's hard to believe that the year is almost gone. But the last half of this year has been the most amazing journey I have ever been on!

It's amazing that one simple change could make this much difference in a persons life. Add to that life changing surgery and your whole world is turned upside down and inside out. I have finally come to terms with the new person I am becoming on the outside. I just have to remind myself everyday when I look in the mirror... Thu, 15 Dec 2016 10:27:27 EST Week 22 Well, we still have 2 1/2 inches of snow on the ground, bitter temps, icy roads and another 2-6 inches of snow forecast for the next couple of days. I love the snow! But, it does kinda hinder the exercise program, so we have had to get creative. Trying to stay as busy as possible. I write letters daily right now in my service to God which I thoroughly enjoy. In this day of electronics, nobody writes personal letters very often. I like the personal touch a hand written letter gives.

... Thu, 8 Dec 2016 10:13:44 EST Week 21 This week has been a mixed bag of nuts. With the weather in the Pacific Northwest, it is very hard to get our exercise in. Walking is hard without rain gear and it has been pretty chilly. We have snow in the forecast this coming weekend, so that will complicate things a little bit more. We did manage to get our walking in 2 days, but our goal is 4 days. We also did some physical work around the house yesterday which helped a bit.

My image issues have calmed down some. I know this i... Thu, 1 Dec 2016 10:16:09 EST Week 20 - WOW This has been a rough week mentally for me. I have been having feelings that I am getting too skinny. My wife assures me that I'm not and I know she is right. You see, I have been over 300 pounds most of my life since the age of 12. I am now WAY below that and it feels strange! I almost feel as if a part of me has died, as weird as that might sound. I look at myself in the mirror and can't help but wonder who that person is. I don't know him, I don't know where he came from and I don't know w... Thu, 24 Nov 2016 10:45:18 EST Week 19 Holy Cow! It's hard to believe how fast time has gone since this whole process started! It has been one heck of a ride!

To think just 6 months ago I had been confined to a wheelchair for almost a year. My health was in the toilet, my wife had to dress me and sometimes help me bathe, she was literally lifting me in and out of my wheelchair and bed and my kids were watching their dad slowly die physically and mentally. Life was hopeless, i had no desire to do anything and I couldn't ... Thu, 17 Nov 2016 10:19:00 EST Week 18 It's been a very busy week with my ministry work. Struggling a little with protein this week, still getting enough, but not the amount I'm used to getting. I managed another loss of 2 pounds this week, so i won't complain too much. Thu, 10 Nov 2016 09:50:04 EST Almost 6 months to the date! May 4, 2016 is a date I will not soon forget. That is the day that my wife and I attended the weight loss seminar given by my surgeon. I was in a wheelchair, depressed, with no real hope that i would ever walk again. The doctor gave his presentation and then personally took time to talk to anyone who had any questions. I asked him to come talk to me, not knowing that my life was about to change right then and there. As we were talking about my conditions, he asked what I saw 5 years from then... Thu, 3 Nov 2016 10:11:49 EST Week 16 Back on track and feeling good!!!

I have been given a new lease on life by our Heavenly Father. The doctors told me just a few months ago that at the rate I was going, I would be dead within 5 years from a massive heart attack. I was wheelchair and bed bound, was eating whatever I felt like and extremely depressed with my situation. Then my PCP talked to me about going to a seminar just to see if it is something I would consider doing. I was ready for a change! I did not want to d... Thu, 27 Oct 2016 10:33:41 EST Week 15 This week has been like a plateau week. Things really slowed down this week for me in weight loss and exercise. The nasty weather here in Washington state is not very conducive to our daily walks, so it's time to get creative to kick my metabolism back into gear. yesterday was grocery shopping day, so we got in our steps,, which is probably why i was able to eek out a little loss.

Saw my primary care physician yesterday for my annual preventative exam. She has not seen me since rig... Thu, 20 Oct 2016 10:07:27 EST 3 month post-op appointment I am utterly amazed at my progress!

Today, I had my 3 month post surgery appointment with my gastric surgeon. He is in complete amazement at my progress so far (as am I), so much so that he has named me his poster child for weight loss surgery 104 . I don't know about poster child, but My wife and I are very pleased with the results and the effect it has had on our whole family. She has lost 58 pounds since May 4th and I have now lost 91.4 pounds! Our daughter has lost... Thu, 13 Oct 2016 16:53:12 EST Week 13 I am happy to say that things have calmed down quit a bit, still dealing with moms health issues, but her doctor is on top of it now. Apparently, she hasnt been telling him everything, so I MUST go with her to ALL her appointments now.

I am still doing well with my weight loss, down another 3 pounds this week! I am now half way to my goal weight! Thu, 6 Oct 2016 10:25:01 EST Week 12 Wowzers, What a week! Things have sure been hectic but at the same time productive.Took my mom to the doctor because her depression and pain are off the charts. She is having major trouble with her left knee and hip on top of everything else we are dealing with. I am so thankful that she is living in an adult care facility because I am not sure we could do this all on our own. At least her doctor is getting things done, waiting for the xrays and blood tests to come back. I found out something... Thu, 29 Sep 2016 10:09:11 EST Week 11 The last few days have been very stressful. My aging mothers health seems to be on a steady decline, and it's worrying me very much. When I saw her walking the other night, I was sure that with every step, she was going to fall and hurt herself badly or break a hip. Add to that, she is starting to have stomach issues again. And her memory has dropped immensely just over the past couple of months. my grandmother passed away recently from Alzheimers, and I am beginning to think it has passed on... Thu, 22 Sep 2016 09:59:38 EST Week 10 Have any of you seen the movie "The incredible shrinking woman" with Lily Tomlin? Well. I kind of feel like that. Instead of shrinking in height, I am shrinking in weight! HOLY COW! There are no words to describe my gratitude for my Bariatric surgeon. Just 5 months ago, I was on 4 different heart medications, acid reflux medication, 2 sleep medications and 2 psychiatric medications: not to mention all the pain meds I have been taking for years. I no longer take ANY heart meds! I no longer tak... Thu, 15 Sep 2016 09:54:39 EST Week 9 It has been a very busy but productive week. All the drywall is up downstairs, and all but one room has been mudded and taped. Met with the nutritionist last week, and things are still amazing me. In one month, I lost 3.75 inches from my waist. That was great to see! I keep forgetting that I am losing more than weight, the inches count just as much. While I was there, I saw my surgeon for a brief moment. I hugged him and thanked hi for helping to save my life, because i was going down fast. S... Thu, 8 Sep 2016 09:42:47 EST Week 8 This has been a very interesting week. Although I did lose, I was frustrated with the amount of loss. At this stage of the game, 2-3 pounds a week is normal. However, with all the exercise we got this week, I expected more. You see, we are still in the middle of renovation of the house. We drywalled our living room, laid down the subfloor in our laundry room, plus other exercise. But, as I sat here this morning afterward, it dawned on me that I have built a lot of muscle this week with the wo... Thu, 1 Sep 2016 10:15:16 EST Latest pics
Thought i would post pics -66 pounds Thu, 25 Aug 2016 15:36:04 EST Week 7 This journey has been amazing! Not only do i feel better, butt now I am seeing some of the changes for myself and i can't believe it sometimes.I have to say without the support of my wife and kids, the best team of bariatric doctors and nurses and my loving God Jehovah, I couldn't have done this. My body seems to be settling into my long term weekly weight loss pattern now, which is just fine. I lost 2/8 pounds this week and the doctor said 2-3 pounds after the first six weeks. So, if that ho... Thu, 25 Aug 2016 10:12:12 EST Week 6 - I am on top of the world!!! I am feeling better and better everyday!!! I start aqua therapy tomorrow to see if we can get my back to mobilize a little more. But, the real reason I am on top of the world is I reached a milestone today!! I have been with Spark off and on for years. It has helped some, but the best decision I ever made was to have Bariatric Gastric Sleeve surgery!! It is saving my life one day at a time!! My clothes all look like tents on me!! Best of all, I weighed in today....... Thu, 18 Aug 2016 10:26:49 EST Week 5 I am so happy with my continued progress since surgery. I feel like I could move mountains! My wife and I have been working hard on our house renovations, but most of all we have been working on me learning how to walk again. Baby steps, i use my walker around the house, but when we go out somewhere, to the store, to my congregation meetings, I am still using my wheelchair. It's not easy for me, I am a driven person who likes to push the limits and in the past it has cost me. So, This time, ... Thu, 11 Aug 2016 09:53:39 EST One month post surgery Met with my nutritionist today. I am down almost another 5 pounds? Choosing to have this surgery was a great decision! I feel better, I have tons of energy and am able to start seeing some changes physically! If you have struggled with morbid obesity for many years or your whole life, go to a bariatric weight loss seminar. It's free and there is no obligation. The results to me are far worth it. 59 pounds gone since May 4th, 26+ just since Surgery a month ago! Thu, 4 Aug 2016 20:57:21 EST Disappointed My weight loss this week was much lower than I anticipated. But, I have to remember I already lost 46 pounds in six weeks, so my body will hit these "wait a minute, what's going on" moments. Today we worked on texturing some walls, as our renovation continues slowly but surely. Thu, 28 Jul 2016 19:22:47 EST Post surgery My friends, I have been trying to lose weight alll my life. Let me tell you, having the gastric sleeve is the answer to my prayers. When I came back, I was at 358 pounds. I am very happy to say that since may 4th, I have lost a total of 46 pounds, 18 of those since surgery on July 6th. I feel SSSOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER! I have energy! I have less pain! I am starting to feel like a different person! I would DEFINITELY recommend this surgery to anybody who is continuing to struggle to lose weight... Fri, 22 Jul 2016 20:05:28 EST What a great day! We have been sticking to a strict diet with lots of protein and veggies. As I prepare for surgery, The doctors want me on a quick downward trend as i head toward the surgery date on July 6th. Today we went in to the wellness center for a meeting with the head of nutrition, to go over exactly what our diet needs to be from now until the day of surgery, Our convention is July 1-3, and then i have to be on a liquid diet the 2 days after that before surgery. when we were done, I asked if I could u... Thu, 23 Jun 2016 23:02:36 EST I am a bad boy today Well..... Not really......maybe. As I prepare for surgery, which by the way is scheduled for July 6th, I have been doing very well adjusting my diet to the schedule I will have after surgery. We had a breakfast today, one last time, that we haven't had in months, Tami's homemade cinnamon rolls. Now that isn't a bad thing, in moderation, but today I went hog wild and ate 3 throughout the day. (The voices in my head have been screaming at me all day). We had homemade vegetarian pizza last night... Sun, 12 Jun 2016 22:45:59 EST Moving forward Preparing for surgery has gone really well. All approvals are in and i am down a total of 12 pounds since the seminar. I feel like we are ready for surgery and post-op. Sun, 5 Jun 2016 18:19:42 EST On track for weight loss Had a doctor appointment today, so I got my official weigh in for the week. I am happy to say I am sticking to my pre-surgery program and i am down 4 Lbs! 104 Fri, 3 Jun 2016 21:18:58 EST Getting closer Bought paint and a few other things to add to the stuff for our home renovation. Thu, 2 Jun 2016 21:50:47 EST Meds I am so tired of taking medications. Always sleepy or in a stupor, digestive issues etc. I will be very interested to see how many meds i will still be on after surgery and I have met my goal weight Wed, 1 Jun 2016 21:20:32 EST More changes My wife and I decided that since our bedroom is downstairs and we are going to make a permanent bedroom downstairs, that we would let our teenage daughter move into our old bedroom upstairs and our son the choice of which room he wanted upstairs. so today we spent our time going through our stuff to make room for her to start moving some stuff to the bedroom. all of our clothes are now in our make shift closet downstairs and we got rid of a lot of stuff. Mon, 30 May 2016 23:57:38 EST Update I know I have been gone for a while, so I want to tell you why. Over 9 years ago, doctors told me because of the degenerative disc and bone disease in my back, that i would be confined to a wheel chair in 3 years. Most of you know that I beat that mark. Unfortunately, about 6 months ago, that diagnosis came to be a reality. I have no feeling in my right leg up to my hip and i have no feeling in my left left leg from the knee down. I am now confined to a wheelchair. Not to worry, Determined_me... Sat, 28 May 2016 16:23:18 EST Day 4 Still going strong on preparing myself for surgery in mid June. Next thing on my list is to delete coffee from my diet. Fri, 27 May 2016 18:29:36 EST A new beginning It was so great to meet my nutritionist yesterday. Kari is a great person with a wonderful personality. I know she will be an iintegral part of my weight loss success after my surgery. Tue, 24 May 2016 13:58:57 EST International Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses PIctures Here are some pictures I have from our International Convention in Seattle, Wa. USA from July 4-6, 2014. Some are just delegates, some have my daughter with delegates, one has my oldest son and my youngest daughter and then there is one of me with a hat I borrowed from my friend Johnathon who is a spanish brother. I hope you enjoy them!

<img src="... We are absolutely THRILLED with the decision! Our new house that we are buying is for the most part great. There have been a few minor things that have had to be fixed so far, but that's what you expect when ... Fri, 20 Sep 2013 00:35:28 EST
