NOSUGARADDED87's SparkPeople Blog NOSUGARADDED87's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Recent motivation I had a colleague on Monday tell me that I'm starting to get heavy. Thanks? I know she meant it kindly but it really stung. That's the first time that I can recall someone actually coming out and saying I look overweight. I'm not...but I'm close enough to the category to warrant being told so.

It hurt to hear, but it really got me back on track. I've worked out every night since Sunday. I plan on continuing to do so (although Friday may be shot, since I have to be at school from ... Wed, 20 Mar 2013 16:45:39 EST My wedding!

Axel and I are now married! July 21 was the date of our official marriage and French celebration. We will be having an American reception later so that I can celebrate wiht my family and friends. It was a gorgeous day, everything turned out perfectly, and the red wine I spilled on my dress came out quickly with some cold water and salt *whew!*

I awoke and weighed myself (just curious) and the scale sho... Mon, 23 Jul 2012 02:51:12 EST Feeling better Since my mini-breakdown the other day (see previous blog -- "Self-Consciousness"), I have been quite on the up-and-up. I really believe that a good portion of my negative feelings were due to hormones. However, there is still a part of me that is not comfortable with where I am. I'm working on that, and that's all anyone can ask for.

It certainly helps that while watching models on the catwalk on TV, Axel said, "They're way too thin."

I got a new bike during the massiv... Tue, 3 Jul 2012 03:53:29 EST Self-Consciousness Let me begin with this: Perhaps I'm insecure. It's possible. Perhaps I'm suffering from the time-of-the-month side effects. Also possible. Regardless of the cause, I know what the effect was ---

Yesterday, I felt ugly for the first time in a while.

I was wearing my most flattering pair of jeans. I was also wearing one of my least flattering shirts. I could wear a t-shirt from college and look better than I did in this shirt. I have a very small chest and wide hips (in re... Fri, 29 Jun 2012 03:44:35 EST Today is a great day ...and yesterday was, too!

I went on two walks yesterday because I couldn't stand to be cooped up inside a cold house on such a warm (YES WARM!), clear, sunny day. My first walk was 2.5 miles and took me in a circle around the southwest side of my village. I did a bit of jogging while I was on the dirt road where no one can see me. I've gotten a little jiggly lately, and I didn't want to share that with the world 246

I got home, made lunch, and was sitting aro... Mon, 18 Jun 2012 08:04:26 EST Today's Goals If I share my goals, I'm more likely to do them!

Today's goals:

1) Get through at least 50% of my freelance work (I'm at about 25% now). More if possible!
2) Walk to Marat la Petite and back (huge hill, about 60 minutes round trip).

I'm going on a surprise trip (sorry, can't disclose!) next week, so I have to get my work done in advance.

Thu, 10 May 2012 02:50:15 EST Pizza Day I've noted before that every Wednesday is Taco Day. I may have to change that to Mexican Day, since we had quesadillas instead of tacos this Wednesday. They were homemade and amazing!

In addition to Mexican Day on Wednesdays, we have Pizza Day every Friday. We always have two Sodebo pizzas, and we eat both of them...and sometimes more.

At least, we *did* eat both of them...until today.

Today, I tracked my food. There was no way to make that second half-pizz... Fri, 4 May 2012 14:40:36 EST A Wednesday Weigh-in Generally, I weigh in on Mondays like the much of the rest of the world. However, since I tend to gain a good bit of weight leading up to my time of the month (horrible time), then immediately lose it once the time of the month comes, I figured I'd wait until it gets here to do a weigh in. I know that's TMI, but it's true.

Anywho, I weighed myself this morning, and the scale said 61.5 kg. That's 135.5 lbs!

I am, therefore, OFFICIALLY at my college weight!!! 244</e... Wed, 2 May 2012 05:21:14 EST My Workout I dislike doing things for an extended amount of time. I don't have ADD or anything like that; rather, I just get bored easily. Therefore, exercising is kind of difficult for me. However, yesterday I decided that I wanted a full-body workout with cardio, but that didn't FEEL like a full body workout with cardio. Therefore, I made up my own circuit to do.

1 min jumping jacks
15 crunches
1 min jump roping
15 modified pushups
1 min jumping jacks
15 bicycle ... Fri, 27 Apr 2012 09:03:29 EST Another Taco Day We have fallen into the routine of having tacos every Wednesday night and pizza every Friday night. I definitely need to make up for these meals on the other days of the week. Last night, however, I had tartiflette, which is a glorious French concoction consisting of potatoes, bacon, cream, and tons of cheese. Although I ate less than I normally do, it was still a lot of food. I plan on going for a walk today in order to offset that meal a bit.

Today is Wednesday, and therefore, i... Wed, 25 Apr 2012 04:06:35 EST Diesel I am terribly out of shape. I'm thin, certainly, but I get winded very quickly. While on the bike today, I thought of something:

My body is like a manual transmission diesel car.

Don't worry, I have an explanation.

A car with a manual transmission cannot start in 4th gear and run. It just doesn't work. You must start a manual in 1st and work your way up. As for the second part of that, anyone who has been around cars knows that a diesel takes longer t... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 15:12:45 EST Positivity There are times in life when one just feels lucky. These are the times when things seem to fall into place, to "click," to be entirely in one's favor. This week is one of those times for me. Financially speaking, things are looking up for me. I have student loans that I have to repay, and I am 2 months ahead on those. I just sent a payoff for one of them, because it was under $100 and I had the money. My freelance writing and editing career seems to be taking off, and I love every bit o... Fri, 13 Apr 2012 00:41:16 EST Taco Day Once every week or so, we have "Taco Day." I am from Florida, so I grew up amidst a good bit of Latin American cuisine, not the least of all were Mexican and Tex-Mex. I absolutely adore tacos however I can get them (except fish tacos...ew). I am even known to frequent Taco Bell just to get my fix.

However, I much prefer to make them at home, even if they come from a kit. In France, tacos are not as accessible as they are in Florida, making them one heck of a treat for me when I... Wed, 11 Apr 2012 22:51:24 EST "The Second Avenue Hill," or "What I Regret Most" I just read a DailySpark blog post that had this quote:

"I have never regretted going out for a run, but I have always regretted the time when I could have run but I didn't"~Anonymous

Ain't that the truth? That regret does not always come quickly, but sooner or later, it will arrive.

I went to Seminole Community College and the University of Florida for my undergraduate education. The former school was four miles from my house on perfectly flat Florida ter... Tue, 10 Apr 2012 23:18:00 EST My little visit to Bar le Duc I live in northeast France, smack dab in the middle of the Voie Sacree between Verdun and Bar le Duc. I'm steeping in WWI history, here. Everything is absolutely lovely, despite being a major battleground.

I went to Bar le Duc on Tuesday with my fiancé because he works just south of there. I had an English lesson that evening, and since we only have one functioning car, and since it was going to rain later that evening (hence preventing him from taking his motorcycle), we deci... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 08:03:49 EST Thursday I'm proud of myself for sticking with walking/running and actually wanting to do it more often. The intervals are stressful, but I know that my body needs a bit of a shock (just a bit!). Today instead of doing prescribed intervals, I just have a basic plan. If I take the main road and the farm route, I can make a 1.5 mile circle. I'm going to combine walking and jogging to see if I can complete this route twice in 30 minutes, which would put me at a walk/jog pace of ~6mph. I don't know if... Thu, 29 Mar 2012 06:22:34 EST Well, that was quick! Yesterday's blog post listed my goals for the week. I have already met half of Goal #1!!!

To recap, my goals were:
1) Run on Tuesday and Thursday. Goal: Run for 4 minutes straight at least twice.
2) Drink at least 6 cups of water each day, but more if possible.
3) Measure portions and try to stick to them.

Well, I certainly ran today! I ended up running twice for four minutes straight each time. Therefore, goal met! I intended to do it twice more, b... Tue, 27 Mar 2012 08:13:02 EST Goals for the Week Hello, Sparkfriends! I certainly hope you all are enjoying spring as it's coming to you. It's gradually getting warmer here in NE France, which is great, because this Florida native was starting to get sick of being cold.

I am happy to report that I weighed myself yesterday at the end of the day, and realized that I lost 1 lb. I weighed myself again this morning (unfortunately, after consuming breakfast), and the 1 lb weight loss still showed, so I can safely assume that it's tr... Mon, 26 Mar 2012 23:56:07 EST Why did I run today?! Good question.

Did I do it because I like running? Heck no! I don't even like walking around the house.

Did I do it so I could show off? Ha! I'd rather do anything than have someone see me working out.

Did I do it because I like the feeling of my heart racing after a workout? No. Actually, when that happens, I feel like I'm on death's doorstep. I'd rather not take that vacation, thanks.

So why did I go running today?

1) When I ... Tue, 20 Mar 2012 11:43:37 EST What I love to buy...

I love the grocery store. I could honestly spend hours there. Lately, though, I've been enjoying it more. Why? The fruits and veggies are on sale! We have been buying kiwi pretty regularly since I discovered their amazing taste, and last week I bought some oranges because they were inexpensive as well.

Today we went shopping again, and it was the bananas and tomatoes that were on sale. We stocked... Tue, 13 Mar 2012 14:50:50 EST Staying busy to stave off snacking Neither my fiancé nor I awoke feeling well this morning. I think we stayed up too late last night and had a blood sugar spike due to late-night snacking. Yesterday afternoon, though, I held off one of my many snack attacks by sewing.

I *just* got my sewing machine in November as an early Christmas gift from Axel (fiancé). His mother gave me a thorough beginner's lesson, but since she lives an hour away, I have to do a lot of self-teaching and practice.

As my statu... Thu, 1 Mar 2012 06:03:56 EST Adding more stuff to like I hate to make this blog sound like a Facebook newsfeed ("Emily likes chicken nuggets" or "Emily went for a walk") but these are really the only updates I have. There aren't any mind-blowing revelations occurring here.

I like kiwi.

Let's see if I can make this a little more interesting.

When I was a kid, I was in the Girl Scouts. My troop did absolutely NOTHING outside of selling cookies and watching "7th Heaven," which is a television show that I have al... Sun, 26 Feb 2012 14:55:45 EST Upping the Fitness I've been trying to move a little bit more. Living in a rather isolated small town, not having many friends, and working on the Internet all contribute to a life lived from my couch. Unfortunately for me, the couch makes my butt get bigger. I think it's secretly moving its stuffing into my thighs via osmosis or something.

Thus, I've been trying to fit in some movement when I can. I have purposely made myself restless, though not ADD restless, because I still have work to do. I... Sat, 25 Feb 2012 13:09:38 EST News, and hopefully new motivation I have soooo not been keeping up with my water intake. It really is torture for me to drink liquids. However, I've been increasing my vegetable intake and making soup whenever possible to increase the amount of liquid that I consume. Drinking water is still uncomfortable for me.

My portion sizes are gradually decreasing. Instead of taking half of what I make for my boyfriend and me, I've recently been taking a third or even a quarter. I eat more slowly and I try to force myse... Thu, 16 Feb 2012 07:43:27 EST H2Observations I still don't like water. I think that the tide will change with that eventually, but I don't drink water because I like it. I drink it because I need it. I still have to jazz it up with Crystal Light to choke down my last two cups, but I'm pleased with the semi-reguliarity of my hydration.

Story time! I have been in the hospital twice for dehydration. I have had a UTI (ew) that spread to my kidneys because I didn't drink enough water to keep both systems functioning properly... Tue, 24 Jan 2012 08:54:36 EST Chores! I'm home alone this week due to my boyfriend being in the Army. Since we're going on vacation soon, I need to clean the whole house. I mean, SERIOUSLY clean it. I hope I get a good workout! I have to dust all the furniture, dust the walls, vacuum, mop, clean the windows, clean the fridge, take out the glass recycling...

So much to do! I hope it counts as exercise!

Have a wonderful day, SparkFriends! Wed, 26 Oct 2011 03:42:12 EST Today's goals + Weekend I am happy to report that, as of 3:00pm today, I have officially met all four of the goals I set out to accomplish yesterday. They were as follows:

1) Start the day with a glass of water. (*done* at 6:30am)
2) Drink at least 5 glasses of water tomorrow. (Baby steps, y'all). (*done* at 2:30pm)
3) Stick to proper portion sizes for all three meals. Measure it if I have to! (*done* at 2:30pm)
4) Leave the house (it's sad that this is a goal, but it's true). (*done* a... Thu, 20 Oct 2011 09:24:06 EST Tomorrow's goals I think that perhaps if I share my goals with the Sparkpeople community, I may be more apt to work toward them. I was rather proud of myself this evening. I always make four servings of supper for my boyfriend and me: 1.5 servings for myself, and 2.5 servings for him. He's unbelievably skinny and never stops moving, so he needs the energy. I, on the other hand, could use a downgrade to one single serving. Tonight, I prepared three servings, and only had one. I left the remainder to my bo... Wed, 19 Oct 2011 17:30:54 EST Wacky Weather! I suppose I was not completely informed before I moved to Lorraine. It is July, and this Florida girl is accustomed to some shorts and a bit of sweat, not to mention the careless sunburn or two. But no, Lorraine obviously does not have summer. It is July, I am huddled in my hoodie, jeans, and socks, and it is 62 degrees Fahrenheit. It is cold, wet, and miserable!

On a more positive, optimistic note: I have to exercise just to keep warm. I guess that's a good thing! Mon, 25 Jul 2011 03:06:46 EST Back to Fast Break... I'm restarting SP by going back to Stage 1. I just tracked my food today (yikes) and I'm planning on actively working toward checking off my fast break goals daily.

I weighed in again at 60 kilos (132.2), so I'm maintaining. However, I can see that I need a lot of motivation to keep this up and to change my habits. I'm going back to Stage 1 to do this slowly.

I have noticed that I have some fat accumulating along my midsection and my thighs. I selected "go for a wa... Tue, 12 Jul 2011 07:54:28 EST Maintenance I weighed in this morning before breakfast (finally, I remembered!). I maintained my 132.2 lb weight, and I'm not disappointed. I know that I haven't been exercising much, and I know that my eating habits aren't entirely great. I eat a lot of vegetables, but we like creme fraiche, bacon, and butter. I will not give up any of those. However, I have been practicing a bit of restraint when it comes to food. We went to a soirée at a friend's house this weekend, and while there were lots of ... Mon, 4 Jul 2011 06:47:40 EST Ow and Ew Today I awoke terribly early due to my dear, sweet boyfriend's work schedule. He left at 3:15am, and that's when I got out of bed. I decided to be productive, and I certainly was. The benefits were that I completed a good number of household tasks, including the laundry and the dishes. The laundry is now drying on racks in the living room next to the open window. My whole living room smells like Savon de Marseille. I also drank over half of my water requirement before 9:00am. As I've be... Thu, 30 Jun 2011 02:50:09 EST Fears I am afraid of many things. Spiders (KILL IT, KILL IT!), death, know, the usuals.

I am also terribly afraid of what people think of me. I try so hard not to care. I really do. Inevitably, the harsh critic within will begin to imagine what the absolute worst is that they could think, and then I begin to believe it as the truth. Oh, what a vicious cycle it is. It is painful. I shut myself out of society because I am afraid of what society may think. But this i... Thu, 23 Jun 2011 12:05:09 EST Accuracies I didn't weigh in on Monday because I was so rushed that I simply did not have time to do it before breakfast. I don't like to weigh myself after breakfast because I consider that weight to be inaccurate. It is my weight + food. Thus, I resolved to weigh myself before breakfast today, but that also did not happen.

After a solitary mojito last night, I slept for ten hours. I was not completely coherent until I was already halfway through my bowl of cereal and heating my coffee. ... Tue, 21 Jun 2011 05:44:29 EST Vacations This weekend, my boyfriend and I went on an unplanned excursion to three different countries. We started out by going to IKEA in Metz, France. That part was planned. We had the whole afternoon open, so he suggested that we go to Luxembourg, 45 minutes away. Of course I want to go! After we visited there for a while, he said that we should head to Belgium and see Bastogne. We stayed the night in the car, and got to Bastogne the next morning. After Bastogne, we went to Liege (*huge* cit... Tue, 14 Jun 2011 01:51:21 EST Scale! Update!

I bought a scale today and weighed myself for the first time since moving to France at the beginning of February. I estimated my weight as being 150lbs when I left America. It was probably more like 146. I weighed in this evening at 136.6lbs! Go me!

I plan on doing a more official weigh-in Monday morning. Regardless, I'm *stoked* about the progress!!!!! Sat, 28 May 2011 18:07:43 EST Fitness and Scales I don't have a scale. I have no way of measuring myself. I could go buy one, but I'm trying to save my money for bills and such. At the moment, I have no idea what I weigh. None. I lost a bit of weight when I came here in February, but right now, I couldn't tell you if I'm in the 140s or 130s (I hope the 130s!). And for goodness sake, please don't ask me for my metric weight! I'm still trying to wrap my head around grams and kilograms.

However, my fitness has gone to pot. I... Fri, 27 May 2011 03:27:42 EST France So, I moved to France in February. I'm living in northeastern France, in Lorraine, which is right next to Alsace--a large Riesling-making region. France is wonderful, and my boyfriend is wonderfully active, so I'm getting tons of exercise. I don't have a scale here, so I have no idea how much I weigh. I got spoiled having a Publix near my house because I could check my weight there. Now, the stores are open such short hours that I have little chance of getting there, and there are no sca... Wed, 4 May 2011 05:35:18 EST Great. I hit the big 150 today.

I'm now at my heaviest weight ever.

I could just cry.

Thu, 27 Jan 2011 08:47:30 EST Candy Salad I made a salad at lunch today that was really good. I'm not a huge fan of salads because they're generally bland and I don't like crunching on tons of lettuce; however, this one was great!

It had a lot of flavors, textures, and tons of sweetness, so I'm going to call it "Candy Salad."

Candy Salad (1 serving)

1 cup iceberg
1 cup mixed greens
2 TBSP chopped walnuts, toasted
1/2 bag Cherry-Go-Round Peeled Snacks (Dried Cherries) (24g)
2 TBSP ... Wed, 26 Jan 2011 12:06:08 EST Cultures I'm moving to France on February 2nd.

As a collective culture, the French have great eating habits and are much more active than Americans---they prefer being pedestrians.

I wonder if I'll lose weight while I'm there. On my last visit, I lost 7lbs (it was vacation....VACATION!). Plus, every time my boyfriend (a French man) is with me, I tend to eat healthier, eat yummier food, and move around A LOT. I lose weight every time he's with me. Bizarre!

I won... Mon, 24 Jan 2011 12:03:36 EST Still proud I'm still within all my ranges today, and I just have to drink 2 more cups of water to meet all of my goals for the day. I played a little bit on the playground with my niece and nephew, moving around a lot while I pushed them on the swings, and tried to go across the monkey bars (FAIL!). Overall, I got a good arm and leg workout. I was up and walking around the grocery store, too.

Overall, a very good day! Thu, 20 Jan 2011 18:33:50 EST Trying again So, I went over my calories for today, but I'm not terribly bummed about it.

1) I knew I wasn't hungry, but ate anyway. At least I knew what I was doing!!!

2) I was pretty diligent about my nutrition until the Special K Chocolatey Delight. I even studied the McDonald's nutrition facts, knowing I would go there for lunch with my family. I knew it was more than a serving when I poured it. I just didn't do the math until I logged it.

3) My version of Poulet ... Tue, 18 Jan 2011 23:13:04 EST My New Years Resolution I'm a bit wary of making a New Year's resolution, mostly because I have trouble with sticking to anything.

But I'm going to try to stick with good portion control. We'll see how that works out :-)

Mon, 3 Jan 2011 21:26:41 EST More Financial Fitness (By the bye, we didn't win the Nivea New Year's Eve contest. Not even close!)

I have a good number of student loans to pay back for a couple of semesters in graduate school (the program ended up being VERY different than what I wanted, so I left). I work only part-time, and I'm moving to another country in February, so I'm trying to pay back my loans as quickly as possible before the move. Part of my loans were returned to the loan company by the university-- and this is where i... Fri, 31 Dec 2010 08:57:04 EST Help me see my long-distance boyfriend on New Year's Eve!
y/124

We entered the Nivea contest to win a trip to Times Square on New Year's Eve so we can have a New Year's kiss together! Please vote for us!!!!! I would LOVE to see him on New Year's Eve! Sun, 12 Dec 2010 18:15:48 EST Smarter and Savvier We have very little food in our house at the moment, so I had to run to the grocery store on the way home so I would have something healthy for lunch today. In the produce department, I saw these Snack Sensations Fruit and Cheese Bites, which consist of green apple slices, red apple slices, grapes, and a little bit of cheese. It sounded like a good, healthy thing to start off my lunch.

When I got home, though, I realized that there was actually more than one serving in the contai... Sat, 11 Dec 2010 13:29:08 EST Two days consistent! Two days may not seem like much to other people.

But to me, two days is a lot. One day is a lot, for that matter. I have never gone more than one day exercising and eating within my nutrition ranges. However, I have exercised 5 days this week, and have stayed within my nutrition ranges on SP for two days now.

I know this doesn't seem like much, but this is huge for me. I am finally starting to make the best choices of my life, and I feel WONDERFUL!!!!

<... Fri, 10 Dec 2010 20:51:58 EST It's interesting how things flip! Today, I actually had trouble getting ENOUGH calories! I really wanted to keep my fat intake low (but within range), and it seemed very difficult to do that today! However, I managed to get over 1200 and stayed within my range of fat and protein. My carbs are a little low, but since I'm normally a carbaholic, I think being a little low one day isn't bad.

I'm proud of myself! Thu, 9 Dec 2010 20:40:06 EST Trouble staying away from the fridge at night I have a good deal of trouble staying away from the fridge and pantry in the evening. It seems that once I've started eating, I just can't stop. I always end up going way over my calories, which is why I don't track them past lunch very often.

But today I wanted it to be different. I've been exercising pretty regularly (I took today off) but I have been eating way too much. Today I strove to stay within my calorie budget. I actually didn't do too poorly. I was definit...
