NORASPAT's SparkPeople Blog NORASPAT's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community DH had a good report from the eye Dr. His eyes are no worse. We take that as a positive.
DH takes his medication and he phones in his prescriptions and I am so proud of him taking care of himself'.

We had three appointments one with the optometrist, next the retinal specialist and he had 3 scans of his eyes.

We were surprised in the morning our eldest son was driving over to see us.

MUSIC to our ears for sure. 335

Those appointment took most of the day and then I had to make a family dinner... Fri, 27 Mar 2015 22:52:02 EST A quick blog. Yesterday arrived after midnight. Three days in a row, Walked with our son, walked with my friend and today I walked the dogs individually.

3 days and my SAT confirms for me over 6,000 steps each time. I wonder how long I can do that.
I can put my SAT on DH lap top and go to my computer, open the SURFACE2 and now I can have it on my own machine.
I tried several times to get to it. My first SAT almost a year ago as sent back I could not use it.
Then I kept using DH laptop for a while.

I j... Thu, 26 Mar 2015 23:30:38 EST Another day and another walk, tomorrow I will be walking in the rain. Today I walked with my friend but tomorrow I will do it alone.

The snow was a hindrance and I have fallen too many times but if there is no ice I am planning to do another walk.
Today was great with company and my numbers are motivating me. I like the SAT I do not understand the process but if it tells me I walked three miles and 7044 steps I will take it.

These are MY statistics and in a way I wish I could just do it alone with my numbers. Sometimes I worry about... Thu, 26 Mar 2015 00:02:16 EST Today was the first time I could walk this year in our neighborhood. I looked out the windows to blue sky and bright sun.
The city had removed the snow to widen the roads and they went back to the sidewalks. We still have to walk in the road but the ice is receding so I asked our son if I could walk his dogs. He decided to take a walk with me. That was a surprise and delight. We chatted and the dogs were wearing those long leash and I have never used them. I gave it a try but the dogs were so happy they kept tangling the leashes. I surrendered the leashes... Tue, 24 Mar 2015 23:07:26 EST Putting out posters for the next concert. Today was a really cold day. The garage door would not open so we had to mess with that in the cold wind.

At noon time I went to my Walking friends Birthday lunch. I alas was late and the waiter was waiting for orders. They always eat Crab cakes so I did not look at the menu and ordered the same.
I did not want potato so I subbed Green beans. I wanted coleslaw instead of Asparagus.
The three other meals were right but the Asparagus was on my plate. I asked for the coles... Mon, 23 Mar 2015 23:30:50 EST On a very cold windy Sunday we went to an afternoon play. JUST what we needed! We were thinking about not going but by noon we wanted to go. It was just the right play it was an Irish setting and listening to the actors talk and argue about absolutely nothing it was just the laughter we needed.
There were 5 of our friends in the audience so we all went to a diner where we love their food. DH and I were not hungry he chose French toast with bacon and I had a bagel with egg and cheese and it just hit the spot and then some. We had a good time and on the way home I s... Mon, 23 Mar 2015 00:00:21 EST Getting better but still a bit confused.I walked 4.4 miles ---First time this year Woo Hoo!! I had an e-mail last night.
One of my walking buddies wanted to walk at her Y and she had a pass for me to go with her so I was delighted to do a long fast walk.

I walked over an hour I saw the green ring going around several times but I had no numbers.

I kept my pedometer in my pocket and my SAT on my Bras under my left arm. I do not want to lose it.

After walking we went to a church luncheon and I had a whole wheat grilled cheese sandwich and lots of ... Sat, 21 Mar 2015 00:01:26 EST I am not alone. There are lots of Sparkers who had the same feeling. How does it work? I had a hard time with the tracker but so many others have had difficulty too. I am still in a fog about what I am seeing on my page but I am putting it behind me and I am looking forward to getting it right.

In the meantime there is a team for the tracker so I have read a lot about it so I fell less inadequate now. I decided I will still wear my LifeTrak. it is also not set up right but there is too little time to get to it right now.

I also have made a little bag for ... Thu, 19 Mar 2015 22:50:25 EST OH BOY my steps were not any where near the other pedometers numbers. It has taken me a lot of time to come to grips with the notion my pedometers are off. I will take all of them on the rail trail so I can find out where it is not correct.
My pedometers have been accurate as I walk the Quarter miles Granite markers. I did the gazelle 50 minutes and it had to go in manually with the others but the math or my inexperience has me less happy than I was yesterday.

I have been reading so much about the SAT I am really ready for bed.

Tomo... Wed, 18 Mar 2015 23:44:03 EST Took me a long time to get to this point. I keep telling my Spark friends I would love a tracker but my SURFACE would not cooperate.

At Christmas my family bought me a Life- trak fitness tracker even sleep but I could never make it work. I kept getting 3 hours sleep when I slept every night almost always 6 -very rarely 8. I know it is me messing up. I feel too old to be messing with computers so late in life.

I ordered the Spark fitness tracker about as soon as it came out but the tablet would not download. I ha... Tue, 17 Mar 2015 23:21:08 EST We had our CONCERT Despite the snow. When we awoke there was snow on the ground but it had stopped.
At 9a.m. we were called to ask if we would come to the concert and bring refreshments.
We had no problem but I did decide to carry less juice and half the cookies we carry.
We went in the door and there were 2 people there.
There was a shortage of volunteers so DH offered to take tickets and hand our programs.
He helped me in with my totes and juices and I decided we needed just 2 tables instead of three... Sun, 15 Mar 2015 23:28:34 EST We have snow through the night. We might need to cancel St Paddy's concert. These ladies are just wonderful performers and they give us a good laugh and some education. I hope the snow will not cancel this concert because it has no snow date they are so busy.

I bought Valentines and we used them later it did not feel right.

I bought Green and white and shamrocks and we do not have a snow date. I will have to hoard them for another year I expect.

Thanks for the Girl Guides Blog I never expected there were so many of us who participate... Sat, 14 Mar 2015 23:47:37 EST My Girl Guide years made me who I am. Short Blog but I had to make sure you all know the Girl Guides did so much for me.
I was always there and I knew every inch of the Scout/Guide hut that the townspeople built in the church yard.
My Uncle had taught me to help him build chicken coops. We used Tongue and Groove boards I hammered in the nails. If any Scout or Guide wanted to do a badge that involved wood work they came to the allotment where my widowed Gran had been loaned to grow food.
So we grew flowers and mos... Fri, 13 Mar 2015 23:58:50 EST U.S.Girl Scouts Birthday is today. I was a Girl Guide in U.K. I was a Girl Guide in UK, I had been a Brownie before then and the little girls were Sunbeams.
On another message board we are checking out the month of March.
Another Spark friend posted the Anniversary of the Girl Scouts March 12th.

Lord Baden Powell was doing great things with the Boy Scouts and after a very short time the girls wanted to be Girl scouts. Baden Powell asked his sister to give the girls opportunities like the Boy's had. They decided the girls would be Gi... Thu, 12 Mar 2015 22:52:46 EST MY Spark fitness tracker arrived. For the past few days I have had my Life-trak pedometer on my wrist. It tells me how long I sleep but How can I rely on it. It does not track my gazelle and now I have discovered it does not track on stairs or plush rugs. I like the pulse thing so I keep it on my wrist.
I made a Velcro pocket for my OMRON that I cannot buy again it is obsolete but it tracked well all week. I also have been using my simple pedometer and it comes very close to the Omron. I am hoping to walk the trail tomor... Wed, 11 Mar 2015 23:26:53 EST We went out and bought the living room carpet. Our house was built by amateurs and since we had just come to US from UK we were not in the least bit savvy to asking the right questions.
It is just a small ranch nothing really surprising but it was ours and we have lived in it for over 40 years.
We were told it was built by the man who built the entire development. There are some big houses and in the beginning it was strictly overseen until 1976, you had to have permission to sell before checking with the builder.

Our... Tue, 10 Mar 2015 23:34:03 EST This has been a very short day. Got up on time but it was a good looking day. The carpet installer arrived and he got to work. Our son was trying to sleep and the Chihuahua insisted on Yapping not barking and it was an awful racket.

Our son came upstairs and took both dog in to our GD room and they were all sleeping despite the hammering.

We were folding laundry when I remembered the meeting. By now it was too late to go, so we had some lunch and watched another episode of our "Paradise" Masterpiece. ... Mon, 9 Mar 2015 23:54:59 EST I made a big decision after a long time procrastinating. I have a number of pedometers. I also have a life-trak and it keeps track of sleep and calories and I can put my finger on the button and I will get my pulse rate BUT It does not count steps very well.

I am sure if it ever gets set up right it might make me happy.

I look at the Spark site with Spark friends showing me what exercises they are doing, I feel quite inadequate.

I did buy a Spark tracker and my Surface 2 did not sync to anything. It was a lo... Sun, 8 Mar 2015 23:37:50 EST A FAVORITE CHAIR I bought DH a recliner at Christmas 3 months ago and the springs in the chair back gave way.
DH loves this chair. It is a rocker recliner. He uses it at every chance he can get.
We were watching a movie both of us in our recliners and there was a sudden noise, I thought something had fallen. Stopped the movie and checked. Went back to the movie and almost at the end a similar noise was heard.
Stopped movie again and I looked at the chair where DH was still sitting in. The back ... Sat, 7 Mar 2015 00:08:34 EST I am trying to get back to my usual pursuits. Remove CLUTTER!!!!. It has been a long time since I have been able to do some of my favorite pursuits.
DH and I mostly cook for ourselves so I have been cooking more vegetables and I have made certain we get dark leafy greens as often as I can get them fresh. I used frozen spinach the most since there have been days when I do not want to be out in the cold and icy roads.
DH is enjoying eating more vegetables and his Dr. is impressed with his learning to love vegetables. His new Dr. sent him to a specia... Thu, 5 Mar 2015 22:43:11 EST Trying to Share a blog about Michigan it is so beautiful. I have tried for along time. Tue, 3 Mar 2015 23:31:50 EST Today a longer than usual E-mail arrived this morning from my brother. I went to my computer this morning and it has over 800 E-mails but I found them all in the delete box.
I was so frustrated I decided to use web-mail. There were three "returned to sender" and 2 "Mailer Daemons" in there.

Then I saw the subject of my own e-mail. with the good old Re. before my subject.

I had 5 returned e-mails and for a minute I thought the e-mail was another return to sender.

I had deleted three when I thought it was looking odd with t... THANK YOU SPARK FRIENDS.
Thanks for your comments, I feel I am over it and sharing from yesterday was difficult. I had anticipated joy instead of confusion and memories.

I adore my brother always have done. I thought I had this day all planned out but it was not to be.
I had so many letters and photograph it was a bit overwhelming.
By the time DH was up I had read way too much about the past, I realized I have only seen my brother once in the last 50 years.
I had an e-mail address he never gave out his home address. I tried to e-mail him but the e-mail address was no longer in use.
My brother and I were very close till my mother re-married and he went in to the air force. He ... Fri, 27 Feb 2015 23:20:58 EST I am ready I have all the right numbers from Mum's Passport, I found her purse where I left it in my keepsake drawer.
I rarely go in there but I had to be sure that my mother was born in 1919 she would have been 96 on Saturday

Her tickets were in her purse and she was flying to see us in July 1975 so this is the 40th year October 6th.

I still have not opened her letters. Thu, 26 Feb 2015 22:54:18 EST I have a much better idea. MOTHERS Birthday was FEBRUARY 28. WE had along visit with DH Dr. today. We also put the Concert flyers to all the big stores in Waterville where DH New Dr. has his office. That is over for a few weeks.
We were out till 2:00pm and I had dishes in the sink and things to be done.

On the way home I had an epiphany 189 my Darling Mothers birthday is Friday this week. Tue, 24 Feb 2015 23:43:50 EST I have a very special find from the past. My Darling Mothers words-for tomorrow. I am now in the bedroom and it is beginning to look like a lot of stuff is going out the door.

I got in to a box of hoarded cards. I thought that was all it was. It turned out to be a place where my mothers letters were put and forgotten.

I have not read them. I have to take care of this appointment so it is better I should not start on them

DH has an Dr. appointment very early and 26 miles away. Sun, 22 Feb 2015 23:44:34 EST It was too easy to take the books to the accountant and have it done right.
Yesterday DH and I took our tax documents to our accountant.
We started with her when I had my business and business was complicated since it was all new to us and we came from UK and we had no clue how to do it.

Before I opened m y alterations business DH did the taxes using his calculator but DH wanted it done right for the business, they get audited more.
After I closed the business we stayed with her and it took 20 minutes to put it all on the computer and pri... Sat, 21 Feb 2015 23:46:22 EST HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY-TAXES ARE DONE ELECTRONICALLY. This morning there was more snow to deal with. Not too much but hard to get it out of the way. The roads are narrowed and the snow banks are too high to see over.

It used to be everyone put a flag or an orange tennis ball on the antennae. Most cars do not have them high enough these days.

For the final time I have re-arranged my sewing room and now it is ready to roll . At 3am there was no snow and at 7am it was deep and "white outs" = Blinding snow flakes. That lasted for at least an hour.

The plow came by and plugged the driveway. DH began to tackle it but I went in and cancelled. They gave me another next Thursday.

I went back out and scraped and shoveled for an hour. We all worked together-Looking better. I have been helping DH and our son to get the house sorted. DH wanted his books upstairs so I filled crates and carried them upstairs. I never would have been able to do it on the old stairs.
DS wanted some place to put some linens away. I gave him my ancient cabin trunk. I helped him carry it downstairs and moved other pieces of furniture.
DH and I moved his filing cabinet to the side of the stairs. Then we moved his desk and carried his book case to our bedroom upstairs.
DH ... Tue, 17 Feb 2015 23:58:19 EST I have a new high fiber lunch, it just evolved in my head and I love it. Today our DIL brought home popcorn from the movie house. I have just decided I am going back to some of the alternate grains I was eating around 15 years ago when I was living wheat free but even health food stores did not sell Gluten and Yeast free loaves.

I bought a book written by a New Zealander. I had great success with many of their recipes and so I am trying to eat not for allergies but for the healthier grains.

DH does not like popcorn and it took me a while to... Mon, 16 Feb 2015 22:53:24 EST So sorry the forecast was absolutely wrong. All day yesterday the forecast was a blizzard and 12 to 18 inches of snow.
I said in my blog there were so many people in the stores it was as bad as Christmas.
This morning I looked out and there were tiny snowflakes and just a few inches deep. There were just little gusts of wind. We thought they would be the beginning of the blizzard but it never happened.. Our son called in and did not go to work, when he looked out this morning he was not a happy camper.

Today in t... Sun, 15 Feb 2015 22:20:00 EST Today was a busy day. Everyone else was in the store too. There were notices in store windows saying they have no Snow blowers, some say no snow shovels and no snow scoops.
Generators were up in price and ice melt as going out of the door too.

I just had to get some lamp oil and a few groceries. The store were packed and outdoors in the huge car park, there was a lot of ROAD RAGE about. Sat, 14 Feb 2015 23:18:48 EST Thanks for the support, I am not looking forward to an M.R.I. I have had them before but I am just feeling very worried about this one.

I was given my appointment and the many questions they ask. The woman asked about the blood work. I told her I have not been told about the blood work. This was this afternoon so I hope to call the hospital lab and ask if the orders were sent to them.
We are looking at 12 to 18 inches of snow and a Blizzard. Last week it was predicted 12 to 18 and it was less than a foot and no really bad winds.
<B... Fri, 13 Feb 2015 23:24:51 EST The day went well but I did not. I was thinking the MRI is a week away and yesterday I felt a whole lot better.
Today it has been a headache day.
I am off to bed, early for me. Long Day but a very nice day. This morning I wiped all of the sand dust after the construction. It was vacuumed but since we are sealing the wood I wanted it to show the wood grain. I love NICE wood.

The carpenter rounded every corner so it adheres to the smooth edge. A 90 degree edge gets chipped and the paint or sealer will not take the seal well

I was wiping it down and it was as smooth as silk. I loved it.

I am hoping Tomorrow our son and I will do it together-I HOPE! Snow might get i... Wed, 11 Feb 2015 23:43:53 EST We both slept and had a good nights sleep. The loaner Bi-Pap machine was whisper quiet, I wish we could have one of those but it is an older model.
When DH got the machine that "FRIED" as the tech put it, that machine was one for Medicare people. This machine has a place at the back where a Micro chip is put in and after using the machine diligently for a month they will pay a portion of the bill. DH had to do three months and it was his.

WHY?

We were told it was to stop Medicare fraud. People would get the... Tue, 10 Feb 2015 23:37:17 EST Tonight DH has a working machine, we are hoping for a good nights sleep. I called the pharmacy just to check they were open. Our streets were not plowed but the schools were open. GD walked to the bus stop I watch her walk up the street till she goes round the corner. I always used to watch the boys walk the length of the street. They had a mile to walk to school and they liked doing it. Good exercise.

We went to the pharmacy and the technician had already set up a loaner machine with DH's pressures in there. He checked out DH hoses and I told DH to te... Mon, 9 Feb 2015 23:47:43 EST The concert was postponed to the snow date and DH and I are happy it was. DH sleep Apnea machine decided to quit on Friday.
There was no place open so he had to sleep without it.
He tossed and turned and stopped breathing and so!! I am as tired as he is.

I called the pharmacy and got the answering service. I explained the situation it has a numeric code. He looked it up and said it was "fried". That was not what I wanted to hear.
DH has had several C-Pap and Bi-Pap machines over 20 years.

A couple of years ago we went in with... Sun, 8 Feb 2015 23:29:02 EST More snow tomorrow. We expect this concert will be done in two weeks time. All of our winter concerts are backed up with a snow date. Sometimes it is not used but tomorrow it will very likely be the 22nd.
I am prepared but it will all keep.
DIL had to go to the urgent care her shoulder was almost frozen it was so painful.
Our son took her and then I went to pick her up.

She has medication for the pain and she has to do some Physical therapy.
Tomorrow is her birthday but we will celebrate it on Tuesday if this long storm actually shows ... Sat, 7 Feb 2015 23:19:11 EST We had a family birthday dinner for our Grand daughter this afternoon. It has been a lot of years since we had a birthday dinner with either of our sons families.

Our DIL and our GD came at the end of February so we missed their birthdays.
383
Today, Friday is GD 12th Birthday it's the first time I and DH had a birthday with her. 44

DIL Birthday is on Sunday, it will have to be lunch time or when our son wakes up. He was so thorough. He had a very big surprise when he took the stairs down. I asked him to make the tread wider so I can get more of my foot on the tread. He also made the riser perfect for the drop.
I had thought it would be just barely to go under for the average person. When i hit my head on it I asked him to take out the bottom of the closet that was right above the stairs.

I had drawn what I hoped to get and I got it and so much more.
I showed him the sketch. Dh was... Thu, 5 Feb 2015 23:34:54 EST No snow today.Tomorrow it will happen again. I hope for less this time. The carpenter came to raise the ceiling above the basement stairs.
He got quite a shock. Our house was built by amateurs and once again this has to be corrected. Our Carpenter brought his 8 week puppy to show to or DIL and our son.
He is such a lovely Chocolate lab. He looks healthy with huge paws he has to grow into, I guess.
They had a dog bed in his truck cab and the truck was in the sunshine.
His tools were outside and they were cold and less powerful. He did not exp... Wed, 4 Feb 2015 22:19:35 EST A lot of work and family bonding. Oh JOY-It sure made me feel better. Hi there I had my usual headache again so I downed a couple of Ibuprofen because DH and I had to go out to clear the back driveway. DH and our son were talking about snow removal. 425
The plow went by just as our son was about to drive his wife to work and our GD to school since there was a 2 hour delayed start for her school. 425

He just picked up the shovel and dug out the snow bank and he went as soon as they could get out. 425
I ... Tue, 3 Feb 2015 20:59:24 EST Not another blizzard just 16 hours of non-stop SNOW again. Our schools have closed for the fourth time in a week. 425

They expect this to stop by 3 am it started at 6 am 425

We have to shovel the little deck outside the kitchen patio door every time the dogs go out.
425 425
It is very difficult to shovel it but sometimes the blower is not the best choice either. 425

All most of the snow banks are higher than the cars and very few people will slow d...
