Life has gotten in the way again. My doctor keeps telling me I need to start putting myself ahead of others. That's just not the way I was raised so it's very difficult putting myself first.

Two weeks ago last Sunday, my daughter gave birth to a sweet little boy - our miracle baby - since she wasn't suppose to be able to carry to full term after having cervical cancer. Ryder is so much fun! Ryder was born 3 days after Mackenzie's (his ... Tue, 15 Oct 2013 02:58:40 EST Doctor's Appointment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5109876 I had my annual physical this morning I didn't anticipate it going very well since my Hgb A1C has risen to 10.3 and cholesterol to 105. 39

I have the most amazing doctor - we worked together on what might be the cause of my high morning blood sugars. His theory is that I may be going way too low and my liver is compensating my throwing more sugar. He suggested that I wear a permanent CGM (continuous glucose monitor) which will show when I am going hypoglycemic. I wo... Tue, 23 Oct 2012 12:03:20 EST Scale http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5108012 Just finished watching the Spark Coach video on how to tell you're on the right track without the scale as a guide. I have noticed that I am making better choices when it comes to food. I am choosing fruit over a sugary snack. I am also noticing my clothes becoming loose. It' s a GREAT feeling! It is hard, though, not seeing the scale move. I need to stop depending so much on the scale and focus on how I'm feeling, how my clothes are fitting better and my overall energy level. Mon, 22 Oct 2012 07:30:43 EST Uphill Battle http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5105939 Yesterday was NOT a good day!!! After struggling for a week of getting my blood sugar back in the acceptable range my 6 month hemoglobin A1C came back a tenth of a point higher at 10.3. It really depressed me! My co-worker is awesome!!!! She reminded me that I've only been exercising for less than a month and really watching and logging what I've been eating. She's right - if I keep exercising and logging what I eat it will come down. I was really hoping that it would be below 10.
... Sat, 20 Oct 2012 11:43:12 EST Virtual 5K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5088819 Never thought I would be doing a blog entry on a 5K race, but here it is. After attending the TCOYD conference on Sept. 22, I logged back into SparkPeople the following Tuesday. In the middle of the spin wheel there was an ad for a Halloween Trick or Treat Virtual 5K race. After reading that you could walk or run I decided to take the plunge. Boy, have I been surprised with myself. I am now in the second week of the challenge and am feeling motivated and invigorated! I walk with my dog,... Sat, 6 Oct 2012 09:59:15 EST TCOYD Conference http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5071630 Yesterday, I attended a Taking Control of Your Diabetes conference. It was wonderful!! I learned some new things and old things were reinforced. I really needed this kick in the tush to get me motivated to try to control my diabetes and lose some weight. It doesn't take much for me to fall off the wagon - but it's quite a challenge to get back on. Sun, 23 Sep 2012 15:34:03 EST Fell Off the Wagon, AGAIN!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4605484 I've fallen off the weight loss/diabetes control wagon AGAIN!! I get so disgusted and down on myself when I can't control my blood sugar. Today - I am going to check my blood sugar before meals like I am suppose to, take my insulin before meals and write down everything that goes into my mouth.

Lots of things have been going on since my last blog over a month ago.

The craft show went well. Nadine and I found out that a small town near Alta has a craft show on Sunday. ... Wed, 30 Nov 2011 07:36:03 EST Autumn Stroll http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4552811 Today is so beautiful. Temperature is 75 degrees - warm for late October in Iowa. I decided that Kira and I would walk out to where Roger works and meet him. It is a 2 mile walk, but only took us 46 minutes. There is a hill a little over a mile into the walk which was a little challenging to go up since we were tired. We made it and it was a refreshing walk. We sat at the picnic table and waited for Roger to get off. There was a wonderful breeze. I thoroughly enjoyed relaxing there. <... Tue, 25 Oct 2011 15:51:52 EST Monday, Monday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4550257 I didn't get out to walk yesterday, but overall, it was a good day. Picked up my father-in-law for worship service and potluck. We went to the cemetery to visit my mother-in-law's grave. Dad broke down, but he did remember what she died of. It is so difficult to see him having to relive being told Mom died almost 2 years ago. He has a mental block to her death. I picked up some pink roses for Dad to put on her grave. Mom loved pink roses.

Roger took his Dad back to the care ... Mon, 24 Oct 2011 07:42:15 EST 22 October Continued http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4547699 Kira and I went on a 35 min walk. It felt great! Both of us enjoyed the walk - me for the beautiful, cool fall weather and Kira for all the squirrels. We walked through the city cemetery. It is so serene and peaceful. Sat, 22 Oct 2011 11:16:24 EST 2:15AM, Saturday, 22 October http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4547405 Here I sit after waking up with a blood sugar of 66. A little shaky, but not too bad. It's crazy - a Subway sandwich always raises my blood sugar - never drops it. Well - I guess NEVER goes out the window. I guess the exercise is helping.

While I'm sitting waiting for the blood sugar to raise, I've been thinking about a lot of things going on. . .

My oldest daughter had 2 phone interviews and an on-site interview at a Hospice in Rockford, IL. If she gets it, she w... Sat, 22 Oct 2011 04:51:16 EST Another Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4546950 I missed my 10 min walk with the dog yesterday. So much going on. I'm trying to get ready for a craft show in 3 weeks. I WILL walk with my dog, Kira, today - she's a miniature cocker spaniel with lots of energy and personality, even though she's 10 years old. Since we missed yesterday, we will walk an additional 10 min to make up for it.

Stepped on the scale at work today and have lost 4 pounds and my fasting blood sugar was 92. An extremely positive way to start the day. Hop... Fri, 21 Oct 2011 18:34:50 EST Thursday, 20 Oct http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4544421 This is my first personal blog. I really don't know what to write - so I guess I'll just ramble this time. Today is my 3rd day (again) since starting over.

I saw my doctor for my annual physical on Tuesday and my hemoglobin A1C (3 month average of blood glucose) was 10.5. Normal range is 4.0 - 6.0. As you can tell, I am an uncontrolled diabetic. I have an awesome doctor who wants to find the root of the problem. We discussed things going on with my father-in-law and one of m... Thu, 20 Oct 2011 06:30:33 EST
