NFSISTER's SparkPeople Blog NFSISTER's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community So Cofunsed Today I went for my first pulmonary function test. I was diagnosed with asthma 20 years ago and have been on various medications off and on since then. Two weeks ago I ended up on steroids to deal with the worse asthma flair I have ever had. Today I did these tests and amazingly I heard back from the doctor this afternoon. Anyway, the tests didn't show that I have asthma! The lady doing the tests said they pointed toward asthma, but that I might need to go back for another test to determ... Thu, 17 Mar 2016 22:38:57 EST Break's Over So I took break from SparkPeople and everything without even realizing it. Sure, I'd log in every day and get my fitness minutes in, but I wasn't really "here." I guess I just let life get to me.

Well, I'm back and focusing solely on SP. I had joined Weight Watchers and it is a fine program, but wasn't working for me with my technological impairments so to speak. So I quit that, but am ready to focus on tracking here.

I have learned the main problem though 41</... Thu, 21 Jan 2016 15:01:18 EST Success Story I am determined to be a success story with my weight. I got depressed dealing with infertility and needing to realign my dreams, but I will not give up!

My husband and I are on a waiting list for adoption. We expect to be on the waiting list for a year. In that time I will lose weight, get the home visits done, and get the classes we need.

I need to do this to make my dreams come true! Thu, 15 Oct 2015 14:46:48 EST I finally did it I finally went to the doctor to discuss fertility. She was wonderful and is wasting no time. All I can do now is wait to hear from them about blood work and maybe a few more tests to see where we are. My husband has had 4 baby dreams in the past week and is even discussing baby names with his mom. He's seeing signs all over the place!

I've been following Weight Watchers for a little over 2 weeks and have lost 6 pounds. I am following as best I can and tracking everything. See... Tue, 16 Jun 2015 20:32:33 EST I swore I never would, but... I swore I would never join any weightloss program that I had to pay for, but today I did. I have racked up more fitness points in May than any other single month. I have been exercising in the morning, taking a mile walk on my lunch break, and exercising again in the evening. I have lost NOTHING.

I know the problem is with food. I try to eat mainly fruit, veggies, and protein. Problem is with me eating so few carbs my blood sugar crashes. This leads me to over eat.
<B... Sat, 30 May 2015 22:18:45 EST fitness and travel Next weekend I am going to be in the car for 5-6 hours on Saturday and Monday. I plan on using my bike Saturday morning before we head out, which really shouldn't be a problem since my husband isn't known for being an early riser. I should be able to get an hour in and then an hour when we get back on Monday. We won't stop a lot, but I should still get my 10,000 steps those days.

Sunday is another story. We're planning on visiting Tahquamenon Falls if the weather is nice. I ch... Sun, 17 May 2015 22:10:32 EST Happy Mother's Day This is the first Mother's Day in a long time I felt happy. Even though I couldn't be with my mom today (I'll see her Memorial Day weekend), I was happy and peaceful. I still feel anxious wondering if I'll ever have a baby of my own and I stress out about seeing my in-laws every time we get together, but for some reason I was okay today.

I believe there is still hope for my having a baby and have picked a doctor I want to see, but more than that I feel healthier and more confid... Sun, 10 May 2015 21:35:58 EST Still hopeful (I think) Okay, so I have absolutely no problem getting my fitness minutes in. I almost always get 1000 minutes/month and have done so for the last 3 years. With my fitness tracker I am already at 647 minutes for the month of May - and it's only the 7th! I was hoping to start getting 2000 minutes/month and it is looking good.

The problem is instead of losing weight I keep gaining! I haven't eaten greasy junk food in a very long time - I've had french fries twice in the last year. I ta... Thu, 7 May 2015 22:00:09 EST Lessons I've learned a few things these past few days:

-if you don't take time to let your body rest, your body will force you to
-make sure you get enough carbohydrates, especially if prone to hypoglycemia
-wear appropriate shoes when doing a lot of walking
-compete with yourself, not another person
-eat what makes you feel good and soon that is what will taste good

I'm sure there are more, but this is a good start. Tue, 5 May 2015 21:44:36 EST The Energizer Bunny Today I outdid myself, but I feel good! I rode my exercise bike for 70 minutes waiting for my husband to get motivated to take his shower this morning. Then I did another 20 while he was in the shower. I can't just sit and relax so I decided to move since we were planning on being out today and I didn't know how much exercise I'd get in, or what food choices I would have.

Well, we went to the zoo for the second time this Spring and decided to buy a year membership. It's a good ... Sat, 2 May 2015 21:24:18 EST The downside to my fitness tracker I have had my Spark Fitness Tracker for a week now and already have a love/hate relationship with it. I'm getting used to the fact that when we take the kids for a walk at work I have to keep my feet moving. We walked for about 1/2 hour and due to stopping to switch kids around it didn't track it as a workout. Grocery shopping no longer counts either because it is too much stop and go no matter how much I try to keep moving. Ok, I can accept that. In fact I'm ok with that because shoppin... Fri, 1 May 2015 22:51:20 EST This time will be different How many times do we try to lose weight and fail, only to try again saying "this time will be different?" Too many in my case. I always start strong, believing this will be the time I finally reach my goals, only to hit a bump and give up.

I used to be really good at losing weight. I had so much willpower! Or was I just that shy and afraid of people? In high school and college I was borderline anorexic and at times I look back and wonder how I did it. Then I remember the tim... Sat, 25 Apr 2015 14:20:23 EST Has it really been 5 months?! I knew I hadn't been keeping up with making blog entries, but wow! Anyway, a lot has happened since October.
I have a new computer so I feel connected to the world again 30
I had a good holiday season with my parents visiting from Michigan. My Mother in law is acting like she likes me - sometimes more than my husband. For awhile she would talk to me more than him, which I found amusing.
I had my first positive pregnancy test 251 , but it didn't tak... Sun, 22 Mar 2015 21:49:19 EST Hope in times of stress My husband has finally realized that he's the only one of his group of friends without kids and is ready to try. I have been ready forever it seems. This month I really thought I was pregnant and even had 4 of my co-workers ask if I was. I was told I had "that" glow. Unfortunately, I'm not.

I am trying very hard to stay positive. It's giving me a chance to get back into real exercise and give me time to get away from sugar. Plus, I'd much rather have my current weight be my b... Thu, 2 Oct 2014 20:55:16 EST Improvements and downfalls I know I am getting stronger. A few months ago I struggled with any amount of jogging. I couldn't handle 30 seconds at 4 mph. Since then I have completed the walking 5k your way program. I have done the elliptical for 20 straight minutes - first time on it I struggled to last 5. This week I started the couch to 5k program. The first week involves walking for 4 minutes then jogging for 1. This is done 4 times for a total of 20 minutes. Granted, I've only completed 2 out of the three da... Sat, 19 Jul 2014 00:12:13 EST Pedometers and treadmills I was so excited to get a new pedometer so I could walk outside while training for the 5k your way I just finished. Well, the pedometer doesn't match my estimates or my car when I drove around to see what it said. My estimate and the car were a lot closer to each other than the pedometer. So I wore it on the treadmill when I walked the 5k and it didn't even match up with the minutes of activity. A bit disappointing, but oh well.

Had to update my workout clothes. Needed new sho... Mon, 23 Jun 2014 22:34:53 EST Eggplant, the Return I tried eggplant pizza a year or two ago. The first time was ok, but the second time just depressed me. This was early in my gluten free days and I was looking for pizza and it just didn't cut it. Last week I found an eggplant for $1 and decided to try again. Am I glad I did!

I've gotten used to being GF and have stopped comparing things like GF pizza to the regular kind. Now I appreciate it for what it is. I didn't want the eggplant to be pizza, I wanted to try eggplant. ... Wed, 14 May 2014 23:28:04 EST Two years I just realized that Friday was my 2 year sparkiversary. Wow, two years and I'm still here. Have I met my goals? Nope, not even close. Is that ok? It sure is!

I may not have reached my goal weight, in fact I think I am currently at pretty much the same weight I was when I started. I guess it's good that I haven't gained. Sure, I wish I weighed less, but that doesn't mean I haven't improved.

When I first started I was afraid of vegetables. Not all, but most. Esp... Sun, 27 Apr 2014 20:10:32 EST Why?! Why do I do this to myself? I figured out that I feel better eating mainly grain free. Or at least when I don't eat the GF breads and pasta and such. Well, at work my lunch is provided and often that means plain chicken breast and veggies - perfect. This week they decided to give me GF pizza one day and GF spaghetti today. I ate some each time, not a lot, but some. My brain apparently took that to mean it's ok to eat the junk in the break room. I could have done worse - much worse, but... Wed, 16 Apr 2014 21:29:03 EST Determination I am officially registered to use the equipment at work. They have three bikes, two treadmills, two ellipticals, a rowing machine, and a stepper. Plus weights and such. I will go tonight as soon as I get finished at work. I decided to go after work instead of on my break because I was told my break time is a busy time and when I finish for the day it is empty. I would rather figure out how to use the machines without other people around, plus I don't want to feel rushed like I would on m... Tue, 15 Apr 2014 14:44:05 EST I'm doing it Tomorrow I meet with a health coach at work to get cleared to use the equipment at the hospital. I hear they have treadmills, stationary bikes, and an elliptical (yay!). Now when I can't walk on my break I can use the equipment. No more excuses when I'm too tired after work to hit the treadmill at the apartment.

I also may very well be getting my elliptical. I talked to my parents and it came up that my exercise bike is falling apart and the new one I want. My stepdad asked ho... Mon, 14 Apr 2014 21:14:27 EST Rethinking things I need a dietician or nutritionist. Eating grain free helps my stomach, but not my blood sugar. Hopefully meeting with a health coach at work will help. Planning on calling tomorrow to set up an orientation for the exercise equipment and maybe get a health coach.

My husband and I spent yesterday at the mall. First time since we moved to Appleton that we made it to the mall. It was great! Found new shoes I love for $20. Had sorbet while my husband had a chocolate covered moun... Sun, 13 Apr 2014 19:29:46 EST The highs and lows So today is day one of the "Drop a Ton" challenge at work. The goal is to have us lose 2,000 pounds combined. So many of us signed up it works out to 4-5 pounds each. No way will I be happy with that! Two months and I plan on losing more than 5 pounds.

For the initial weigh-in I was beyond depressed - my heaviest ever. Too much GF specialty food and not getting my heartrate up enough I'm sure. So today I officially started being grain free, not just gluten free. May try goin... Mon, 7 Apr 2014 23:53:43 EST Plan D? E? Who's counting? Not me. Since I am having a hard time with my great idea of going on the treadmill for 30 minutes after work it's time to move on to the next plan. I was doing ok until I ended up with a stomach bug that took me awhile to get over. I did learn that it's not worth it to drink 3 servings of grape juice to protect yourself from the stomach flu. That's a crock!

Anyway, I've been trying to get back on track. The main problem is that when I get home my husband is ea... Sat, 8 Mar 2014 20:50:01 EST Four years I can't believe it's been four years since my brother died. There is so much about that day that I will never forget. Then again, that day marks the day my life changed forever.

Willie was my big brother, my partner in crime, my mother's favorite, and the one person I never thought I'd have to live without. We shared a unique history and always counted on each other. Of course we fought, but we still loved each other.

My husband has many characteristics that remind m... Tue, 28 Jan 2014 21:41:43 EST In shock So apparently you really an win from the Publisher's Clearing House. My mom has been notified of winning a nice prize. Not the big prize, but still good. Anyway, it seems legit and my mom wants to use the money to buy a snowblower and then help me get fertility treatments if I need them. I haven't told my husband because think the issue is something else.

Anyway, I am continuing to focus on getting my body healthy to better support a pregnancy, and if nothing happens by June I ... Mon, 20 Jan 2014 20:56:24 EST Now that's different A few changes going on. Yesterday went down to work on the treadmill and there was someone in there waiting for the football game. The treadmills are in the community lounge with a big screen tv, couch, chairs, etc that is open to anyone living here. Anyway I saw the lady sitting there and still went on the treadmill. I was considerate and didn't turn the tv on, but normally I would have just not gone in. I would have used it as an excuse to not workout. Not anymore.

Tonight ... Mon, 13 Jan 2014 20:53:44 EST Lessons Learned It is not a good idea to work out after eating only cotton candy. Don't ask. It is also not a good idea to workout without your inhaler (if you have asthma and it's cooooooold outside). I didn't exercise outside, but just being outside fo any period of time is a trigger when it's cold.

Anyway, that said, I did a good job this weekend getting my minutes in. I am determined to be down 27 pounds by May 31st. My cousin is getting married and I'll be seeing relatives I haven't seen... Mon, 6 Jan 2014 16:07:34 EST A New Year, A New Idea So I have been living my new life for over 2 months now. The holidays are over and it is time to get back to business. Since I get home right in time to start supper I haven't been spending a lot of time sparking. The lightbulb finally came on! I am on a computer on my lunch break so why not get on here to log my food and make a blog entry.

I found an idea on pinterest (I think) to make a visual reminder of the weight I want to lose. I have two glasses (or vases), with aquariu... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 14:13:28 EST The holidays are upon us Ready or not, the holidays are here. I have my lists of what I plan to make. Treat and gift-wise. My husband wants my usual candy, but my recipes are lost in the great abyss caused by our move. I'll have to see if I can find the recipes online. The treat list is shorter than normal and the cookies all have shortcuts. I never get it all done and stress myself out about it.

I found a neat idea to make single-use or travel Christmas soaps that I was actually going to start today... Sun, 1 Dec 2013 16:10:08 EST Shopping with my husband My husband is trying to be more helpful. With the move he finally saw how he wasn't being fair to me by expecting me to do everything. However, I don't know how helpful he is when it comes to grocery shopping.

I have my list with salmon, turkey burgers, veggies, apples, etc. My husband adds wine, chips, and pop. He's trying to be nice because we learned these are what I crave when stressed. The last few weeks before the move and new job the only way I could sleep was to have a... Sun, 3 Nov 2013 20:41:36 EST Swimming I finally made it to the pool tonight. I am a terrible swimmer, but still had fun. It's shallow so I did a little swimming and then walked in the water.

Now that I am done running to the old place after work I think I have a plan. After work I can go on the treadmill for 1/2 an hour or so. That will give me time to unwind, get some exercise, and then start supper. My husband claims he can help cook since he gets home before me. I don't see that happening since his idea of c... Thu, 31 Oct 2013 22:14:44 EST Everything Changes I'm into my second week at the new apartment and new job. The apartment is ok, especially now that the cats have settled in. They're still a little spooked, but much better than the first night.

My new job is interesting. The people are very nice and positive. I have not heard one negative thing from anyone. It's actually hard for me to get used to. I have gotten so paranoid dealing with my mother-in-law that I don't trust anyone. I was so nervous last night and this morni... Mon, 28 Oct 2013 23:25:01 EST One more week I have one more week at my job. I've been there just under 4 years. The center has gone through several changes and I have personally been through 5 co-teachers. Yet, these women are my family. They were there for me when I got married, when my brother died, and everything in between. I am moving on to a better job with better benefits, but I will miss the old place.

One more week living in Green Bay. I will mourn for the wildlife sanctuary, but my husband promises we'll stil... Sun, 13 Oct 2013 18:36:32 EST Where did September go? I took this week off to pack so I wouldn't be all stressed out for the move. Too bad that didn't happen. I spent the week driving back and forth to Appleton instead. I applied for 4 jobs and all 4 places interviewed me. There went my week. The good news is I was offered 4 positions. I officially have a new job starting October 21st. Still with kids, but with better pay and full benefits.

Today I took a break and went to say goodbye to the wildlife sanctuary. It is so depr... Fri, 27 Sep 2013 22:08:44 EST Busy, Busy, Busy So we are moving the last weekend of October. I have next week off to start packing, fun, fun, fun.

Since we are moving 45 minutes from my job I am looking for a new job closer to the new apartment. I've had a few interviews, including one I was convinced I had inn the bag. I gave up on that one after a 3 day game of telephone tag. I emailed her, but she never replied. Oh well.

This weekend I sent out four resumes. I had one quasi-interview today. I have an inte... Mon, 16 Sep 2013 20:49:51 EST Wow! So we are officially moving. My husband gave notice that we will be vacating our apartment by October 31st at the latest. We found a really nice place that has a pool, hot tub, sauna, and fitness equipment. It's a mile from where my husband works. The only problem he sees is that it has community washing machines. For me it's a little more complicated because it's 45 minutes from where I work.

I have had a couple of interviews in the area that would be 10 - 15 minutes away ins... Sun, 25 Aug 2013 18:07:17 EST To be or not to be; fit, that is. My husband and I went walking at the wildlife sanctuary this afternoon and ran into one of my kids and his parents. This was their first time there and I was telling them where the otters and other animals where. They went toward the animals and my husband and I went in the other direction. A little while later we met up withbthem again and they had given up and were headed back to their car because it seemed so far away. I couldn't believe it. I may not be in the best shape, but I am ma... Sun, 4 Aug 2013 20:17:40 EST Gluten free vs grain free I've been having problems with my stomach again lately and was looking at some gluten free forums this weekend. Different people mentioned going grain free, not just gluten free. Seems like that might be the next step. Knowing that some of the GF specialty foods cause stomach pain I have decided to try this for awhile.

My aunt posted a recipe for Oopsies bread on Facebook and I tried them this weekend. Not bad as a burger bun. Simply eggs, cream cheese, and baking powder or ... Thu, 1 Aug 2013 21:52:13 EST Where has the month gone? I survived the month of July, well almost. Tough for me due to the 4th and my brother's birthday. He would have been 39 last Monday. I called my mom and we talked about some interesting things, but neither of us mentioned him.

This month I also perfected the cauliflower pizza crust, thanks in great part to parchment paper. I never knew how much I liked cauliflower until this year. I've always liked it raw, but now I crave it roasted or in the pizza crust. Tomorrow I plan on t... Wed, 31 Jul 2013 21:11:07 EST Withdrawal I haven't been to the wildlife sanctuary in almost a week and it's starting to get to me. It's horrible when you walk outside and it feels like you walk into a wall, the air is so heavy. I had the day off and was planning on heading over there to listen to the program on the porcupine, but just couldn't bring myself to go since the heat index was already in the 90's. Friday is looking like the next chance I'll get. Too bad breathing is so important.

Anyway I decided to check ou... Wed, 17 Jul 2013 22:22:11 EST Moving on My supervisor called all of us in one by one to tell us she is putting in her two weeks. She is a great person and it won't be the same without her. Things have been going on at work so it isn't too surprising that she is leaving. I'd do the same in her position. Thankfully I can now use her as a reference for my job search.

The commute for my husband is killing us and we want to buy a house so I have slowly been working to find a job closer to his. This new development has ... Tue, 16 Jul 2013 22:10:51 EST New plan It is waaaaaay too hot to even attempt to run, let alone walk outside. Heat index is near 100 for most of the week, so I dusted off my Leslie Sansone "Walk and Jog." I don't know if I ever did this one before, but it was a challenge. It's intervals of walking and jogging (makes sense, now doesn't it?) Anyway, it was tough. I figured it would be a good substitute for walking and jogging outside, besides I'm trying to figure out how to time the intervals. You're supposed to walk for so lo... Mon, 15 Jul 2013 20:23:21 EST If a man with CF can run a marathon, what's my excuse? I read an article about a man running a marathon even though he has cystic fibrosis. I kept thinking about this and my sprouting interest in running. I couldn't remember much about the article so I did a search and found there are quite a few runners and athletes with CF. Lisa Bentley is an ironman triathlete with CF. Her story is a bit different though as she was diagnosed as an adult. Still, the point is, if a person with Cystic Fibrosis can run a marathon, what's my excuse?

... Fri, 12 Jul 2013 21:54:33 EST Veggie frustration Last year I made the cauliflower pizza crust and it turned out great. I made it last weekend and while it tasted good, it was stuck to the pan. Thought I'd try again tonight to make "breadsticks". Once again it stuck to the pan. I know I used different cheese with these last two batches. I researched the recipe again and found one that recommends parchment paper so I think I'll try that tomorrow.

My husband is so excited to know how to use his grill ow that we're grilling ch... Fri, 5 Jul 2013 21:38:46 EST Finally a man My husband stated today that he is finally a man. His parents gave him a travel grill for his birthday 4 years ago. Today we used it. He got it going and put it away so he was very helpful. I think he should be able to handle the actual cooking soon.

We had a pretty good day. We went to a little amusement park here in Green Bay that is pretty cheap and rods a few rides. Would have ridden more, but I decided to wear a dress, which limited the rides I was willing to go on. I... Thu, 4 Jul 2013 23:04:10 EST Focus on the positive Weighed myself this week. Not a happy time, but I decided to pick myself up and get back to eating mostly fruit and veggies. I don't need the gluten free versions of popular items. They just aren't the same and do not satisfy.

Can't believe it's almost the 4th of July. I need to figure out a way to make it special because once again the in-law's aren't doing anything and I know that bothers my husband. They used to have a party, but last year went camping instead and this ye... Sun, 30 Jun 2013 14:24:55 EST Father's Day 2013 For the first time in forever, Father's Day wasn't so bad. Spent a couple of hours with the in-law's. It's nice now that my husband keeps the visits short.

This year I focused on the kids at work making something cute for their dads instead of focusing on my dad being gone. I even called home and wished my stepdad a happy Father's Day.

Tomorrow begins my lunchtime walks. I have plenty of time to get a mile in on my break and then will do a leisurely stroll around... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 21:16:51 EST Let down So I found out I will not be getting the intern after all. The professor messed up and the girl needs to be placed with a group of older children so she'll be with the three year old room instead. At least now I can continue my search for a new job. Of course I think that is absolutely pointless at this point.

I decided to do my little bit to help the wildlife sanctuary and picked up a few things at the store that they have on their wish list. I tried remembering the items that... Sat, 15 Jun 2013 15:28:49 EST A review and an opportunity Had my work review today. Not bad, nothing I didn't already know. I need to speak up more and keep the clutter down. They love how I am with the kids, I'm generally a positive personality who gets along with everyone.

Shortly after my review I was asked if I would be willing to take on the added responsibility of having an intern. Funny thing is my director who asked me to have the intern didn't know the assistant director wanted me to work on my communication. When she found ... Thu, 13 Jun 2013 21:11:50 EST
