I was looking back at some previous posts and saw one from the day my nephew was born and how scary it was. It's been more than a year later, and he's still on a feeding tube, but otherwise a healthy and happy baby.

Thu, 21 Feb 2013 12:29:06 EST Weight Loss Update January 4, 2013:
Weight: 186
Waist: 32.5
Hips: 43.5
Thigh: 24
Upper Arm: 13

February 21, 2013:
Weight: 168.6
Waist: 31
Hips: 41.5
Thigh: 24
Upper Arm: 12.5

<img src=" Thu, 21 Feb 2013 12:21:10 EST It's a terrible reality... Tue, 29 May 2012 11:41:06 EST Now I remember... What it feels like after not exercising for a long time and then kicking back into gear. I'm going to exercise today because getting over the hump is part of the journey, but man oh man am I sore! Mon, 19 Dec 2011 11:13:03 EST Come on Jamie... come on... I've gained 11 pounds since August. Yuck. I feel heavy, and I feel like I've lost all that I've worked up towards.

I need to set out a goal that is reasonable. Before school started I was spending hours at the gym, and I think I need to scale it back to 30 minutes. I need 30 - 45 minutes of a workout that is going to leave me drenched.

It's research time. Sun, 18 Dec 2011 12:59:01 EST It's hard to exercise when you're world's in a shambles... I said I was back. I put in an hour of work out on Monday. Then I found out my sister was admitted to the hospital for high blood pressure.

On Tuesday, my off day for exercise, I travelled to Lincoln with the football team to watch the state championships. My sister called upset because she said that they were going to keep her until Thursday for observation. With high blood pressure, she could have pre-eclampsia, which could harm her and her baby.

On Wednesday, I'd pl... Fri, 25 Nov 2011 15:38:03 EST It's been months...but I'm back. I've gained eight pounds. It's ridiculous, but I know it's all because of the choices I have made.

Since school started, I've been stressed. I've been working over time and not seeing the outside world until 5:30, sometimes even 7 p.m.

My classes are more difficult this year. I'm facing more concentrated behavior issues. Last week I showed my weight loss video to one of my classes (because the students like when I connect with them), and many of the students laughed at... Sat, 19 Nov 2011 13:04:33 EST I can have my apple pie and eat it too... Everything in moderation. I've had so many compliments this week, it's amazing! I have been reflecting on my body a lot this week, too. On Wednesday I went to the BodyCombat class again and this time noticed how small my legs were looking. I'm talking about my calves and shins. In the parking lot I was thinking that I can't really call myself fat anymore because I'm 10 pounds away from my goal and now I'm classified as "overweight". A trainer recently told me that my body fat percentage is st... Thu, 4 Aug 2011 21:17:34 EST Progress update (with Pics) I ran into people I haven't seen all summer, including my principal. She told me that I'm disappearing and my weight loss has removed years from my appearance. At first I was thinking - Gee, what did I look like before? I must've looked awful - but I know it was a genuine compliment. I love Dr. F. She's awesome.

I also ran into a former student from three years ago, and she said I look amazing, too. So, compliments all around.

The scale said 160.6 today, which is great... Tue, 2 Aug 2011 22:27:00 EST I'm in love with black cherries ...and pretty much all the food I've eaten today! I was so hungry after I left the gym today, and it didn't help that I needed to pick up a few things from the store. On the bright side, I bought a bunch of super fresh cherries and realllllly delicious grapes. I ended up making a salad of romaine lettuce and grapes topped with tuna and cottage cheese. It was fantastic!

I am really liking Blue Moon fitness. Their trainers aren't pushy, they have a women's only facility, and they ha... My breasts have shrunk considerably.

Yesterday I went to the gym with my sister! I did the BodyCombat class, burned 760 calories, and am definitely feeling the effects today. My whole upper body is aching. I found this website that structures the... Sun, 31 Jul 2011 12:51:40 EST Back on my feet and back on my game... Met with one of the trainers at Blue Moon Fitness today. Although it is her main goal to sell me fitness training, she was MUCH better than 24 Hour Fitness... no pressure to sign, but I might sign on for the once a month training where they lay out a plan, I do it, and then we talk about how to modify it four weeks later.

I really like the feel of Blue Moon Fitness. There's a women's only room, and everyone is nice but not too gimmicky. Fri, 29 Jul 2011 20:40:00 EST Soon I will jump back in the saddle My back is feeling MUCH better than on Sunday, but it's still sore. For that reason, I am going to take one more day of not exercising and get back to business tomorrow. I've gained weight since Sunday, which is bumming me out... but I haven't been the most motivated to eat well this week.

I cancelled my membership at 24 Hour Fitness. It cost me $34 a month. I went to Blue Moon (My sister and brother-in-law go there) and it was $1 to sign up and then I got the VIP membership for $... Thu, 28 Jul 2011 17:23:20 EST I think I'll be out of commission for a little bit... Let me start by saying, I have been known to be melodramatic at times but my description of the following events are all true:

I convinced Donald to go out for a walk with me, something that I haven't been able to do in MONTHS because, for some reason, he doesn't like taking walks anymore.

On the way, I thought I'd drop off my fitness notebook, earbuds, and cell phone off at the apartment gym so I wouldn't have to carry them around while we walked. On the way back, I p... Sun, 24 Jul 2011 18:39:29 EST Almost a good food day... I woke up with the idea that I wanted to make an omelet. I have an omelet mold that I pop in the microwave. For filling, all I had was cheese, so I used two Laughing Cow Creamy Swiss wedges and a slice of fat free Kraft cheddar.

It was probably the most delicious omelet I have ever made myself.

I ate random things here and there for lunch, including roast beef slices and more cheese and Quaker Kettle Rice cakes.

I bought coconut milk for the first time. It ... Thu, 21 Jul 2011 22:17:47 EST I burned over 700 calories and I feel GREAT! I'm hoping that what I'm doing in the summer doesn't go away, although I know I'll be busy with school here shortly. I've been increasing the amount of time I'm in the gym...

To think that in December, when I started, I was exercising for 30 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week. Now I exercise an HOUR and 30 minutes a day for 5-6 days a week, and I'm more knowledgeable than I was before. For instance, I know how to make exercises work more than just the muscle group they are supposed to... Wed, 20 Jul 2011 20:26:32 EST Food addict laments Let me start by saying I love my family and friends. I do have to say I feel like people are trying to be understanding about things they don't really understand.

I know that I should live my life at 80/20 and I'm completely responsible for my own decisions. It's just starting to bug me when I go to hang out with people and they say "Oh, just start again tomorrow". It's hard... when I want to be responsible but there's a lot of temptation.

That being said, I went to lu... Sun, 17 Jul 2011 22:19:21 EST What should I do? Tomorrow I wanted to run, but 1) there's chance of thunderstorms; 2) High of 95 degrees and 3) the heat and humidity index is going to make it feel like 115. I tried running on the treadmill today and was sooo bored I barely finished a mile. I went outside and walked half a mile, ran a quarter, and then walked the rest of the way home.

That mixed with my scheduled strength workout, I burned almost 600 calories today.

I need ideas for tomorrow, though. Should I just do ... Fri, 15 Jul 2011 20:07:00 EST I was supposed to run today, but I took a nap instead... I think my body is thanking me for the nap, so I'll let it slide.

This week I ran 5 miles on Monday, did a full lower body workout on Tuesday (with at least 8 sets), and a full upper body workout on Wednesday (with at least 8 sets) - not to mention two core workouts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Today I was going to just do cardio - run 3 miles. When I got home from working, though, I was exhausted... my brain was fried.

I also had stopped by the grocery store (my favorite... Thu, 14 Jul 2011 20:59:07 EST Since I've Started...Progress update I took my measurements last week. Here's what a week's worth of weights and differentiated cardio has done:

163.8
Waist - 32.5
Hips - 39.5
Thigh - 23
Neck - 13
Calf - 15
Arm - 11.5
W/H - 0.82

Small differences, but it's only been a week. I lost a little off my arms, my chest (which I didn't include), and my waist. That's probably because last week's workouts were focused on the chest/arms/back and I added extra ab/core work. I nee... Tue, 12 Jul 2011 13:09:18 EST I'm a food addict... The first step to getting over your problem is admitting that you have one.

I am a food addict. If I am at a restaurant, I want to eat a lot of food. I want a combo meal. If I buy the buffet, I want to eat two or three plates of food. I don't need any of it. I don't want it some times. I just feel like that's what I should be doing.

Food is like a drug that is all around you and isn't illegal. So today I went to KFC with my boyfriend. I ordered the buffet because it se... Thu, 7 Jul 2011 17:18:45 EST Supreme 90 Day - Take 2 - Day 2 You definitely feel the chest/back workout the NEXT day when you're trying to lift stuff or even put your seatbelt on.

Today's DVD was the Ultimate Ball. I remember this one being one of my favorites, although super challenging. Good news: I was able to do FIVE pikes each set this time!

This is a pike:

I was very happy with that ;) I also did treadmill work for about 20 minutes and carr... Wed, 6 Jul 2011 21:50:20 EST Supreme 90 Day - Take 2 - Day 1 Starting Measurements:

Weight: 164.6
Neck: 13
Arms: 12
Chest above: 37
Bust: 40
Chest Below: 35.5
Waist: 33.5
Hips: 39.5
Thighs: 23.5
Calf: 14.5 Tue, 5 Jul 2011 13:17:14 EST I'm back! ~Long post I know it's been a few days. Let me update you on what happened. On Wednesday, I proposed to my boyfriend of five years and he turned me down. I was very upset, but he explained to me that since his divorce six years ago, he hasn't felt like his life was going anywhere, and that we were waiting for me to be done with school (which I am), but that he still feels like he needs a plan. Why marrying me isn't a good start to a great plan, I don't know, but yeah. So, I've spent every day this week ... Tue, 5 Jul 2011 12:43:01 EST Last day of personal training Christina was cool, but I just can't see myself spending $400 on the next batch of personal training. In fact, I'm still debating whether I should keep my gym membership. I really like the Zumba class there, and I think if I go to a couple classes I can justify $30 a month - at least when I told it to Donald that way, he agreed.

Today we did a circuit, which was more like what I'm used to. I actually did modified pushups on a Bogu board, which was reeeeeally weird and challenging,... Tue, 28 Jun 2011 22:30:08 EST Weekend scavenging, met a new friend, future plans... This has been a buuuusy four days!

On Friday I went to a friend's wedding and ran into my ex's parents. It was nice seeing them, and I was also able to wear my new grey dress, the size 4 - and I didn't even feel like it was going to split open or anything!

Saturday my sister and I competed in the Scavenger Dash. We got all 12 clues solved and completed in 2 hours and 50 minutes. Next year we'll train harder and try to cut our time. Overall it was fun, and I liked the i... Mon, 27 Jun 2011 21:42:07 EST Someone stop me before I spend all my money! After lunch today, I hit up another Goodwill to see if there were any interesting school clothes I could find. My school clothes from last year are being held together by belts that don't help and binder clips. It's one of my summer goals to sort through all my clothes and get rid of the ones I don't fit into anymore.

So, I went to another Goodwill - clothes for school. This time, I can't put pictures of everything because my camera is broken, so only a couple pictures came out. I... Wed, 22 Jun 2011 20:40:49 EST Had a GREAT day! 1) I had breakfast with my family. My brother and his family left for Louisiana today, which didn't make me happy, but I was able to see all of them one more time before they went. We had a good breakfast full of laughs, hugs, and kisses. I was also able to get nutrition information on my food - I had Florentine Benedict from Perkins - which is basically eggs benedict but with spinach and tomatoes and no hollandaise.

Here's a picture of my family:

<img src="http://pho... Wed, 22 Jun 2011 00:45:24 EST Love my new trainer! It's not Avery after all. Her name is Christina and she's a professional runner for Nike. She is super nice, not demanding (like I described with the previous trainer) and treats me like I know what I'm doing. She also took my interests and told me she'd incorporate them into personal training (i.e. running and building my strength around running and not around what everyone else does, and using a LOT of stability ball because I told her I love mine).

I was so happy by the end of ... Mon, 20 Jun 2011 22:02:27 EST So I've hired a personal trainer... I'm hoping I made a good investment.

I got to the gym today after having a not so good morning (I went to lunch with my boyfriend only to find that there wasn't really anything good and healthy I could eat). Then, my plans for friends fell flat and I'll be home tonight browsing the internet and probably watching Grey's Anatomy episodes.

So, I got to the gym and ran for 15 minutes on the treadmill but wasn't feeling it. I got on the stair climber and was dripping sweat ... Fri, 17 Jun 2011 18:26:23 EST One of my moods... I feel fat... super fat.

On Sunday my sister had her graduation party. I ate and ate and ate. I have been blowing it all week this week, and when I stepped on the scale last, I'd gained 5 pounds because of it. I thought to myself, "it's okay, you'll just work it off", but I'm kind of getting sick of it. I pretend like this is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and in some ways it is, but I also feel like a drug addict. Don't eat that slice of pie because you'll get fat aga... Mon, 13 Jun 2011 19:03:44 EST A few things... My sister and I went to Wicked tonight at the Orpheum. I was trying to downplay how excited I was. It was freaking amazing. On my drive home I was thinking about the experience and how to describe it in words.

Remember when you were a kid and you saw something spectacular? It could have been a fireworks show or a really awesome movie. Maybe it was the circus. When you get home at night and you're about to close your eyes for sleep you instantly squeeze them really tight, hoping th... Sun, 12 Jun 2011 02:02:03 EST So unsure. I feel like I am starting to get a cold, and I totally used it as an excuse to get out of exercising on a Saturday morning :(

I think a little later I will look up a Spark workout and do it in my office just to make up a little bit of fitness.

Yesterday I went to Zumba, although I didn't feel well. It was a lot of fun, except that when I walked in, the personal trainer I met with a couple weeks ago flagged me down. Don't get me wrong, she's super nice, and I enjoyed tal... Sat, 11 Jun 2011 12:48:14 EST Jellifying my legs... I spent another day learning about art history. This time wasn't so bad because I made a weight-loss collage (which I will scan when I am able to get it back) and I was able to walk around the Joslyn Art Museum. I haven't been there since high school.

When I went to Spain, one of my absolute favorite memories was walking around the Museo de Prado and looking at the artwork I'd been studying for years.

I'm a Spanish teacher, and not an art history major, so a lot of the... Thu, 9 Jun 2011 23:03:42 EST Gonna try to mix it up Although I haven't taken any extra time off from exercising since I started the gym, I have found myself a tad unfocused. I think it's because the gym has SOOOO much to offer that I'm having trouble honing in on what I want to do.

I want to run. I don't want to be bored with running on the treadmill, but I want to make good use of the gym. I also really like the classes, but I can't do them all the time and still fit in everything I want to do.

Here is my proposed sche... Wed, 8 Jun 2011 22:30:07 EST I've found a new way to buy clothing... Go as fast as you possibly can! No time for judgment or getting a second opinion.

This morning I was headed to a workshop on how to incorporate artwork into my classroom and noticed that the attire was listed as "professional". Jeans and flipflops aren't considered professional where I work (although I saw people wearing them ONCE I got there), but I'd already gotten dressed and started driving towards school when I read the bulletin. I had a FEW extra minutes; I could at least bu... Wed, 8 Jun 2011 00:29:28 EST Advice about summer goals... Couple things first. My sister graduated with her Master's today. I'm super proud of her!

Afterwards we went to eat at Fuddruckers. I was nervous because I've been working super hard to avoid beef, but they have OSTRICH burgers! I've never eaten ostrich before. It was quite tasty and surprised me in terms of how filling it was and the calories in it. I think if I go back there again, I will not order a side (I ordered a side salad, which I ruined for myself as soon as I put the dr... Sun, 5 Jun 2011 00:59:33 EST First time in a "steam room"... wow... I've been working away at school stuff, although it's summer and I should be relaxing by the pool or something. I really want to make sure I'm set up really well for next year.

So, today I rushed to my Body Pump class, got there exactly at 5:30 only to find a completely packed gym (way more this time than last time) and the lowest plates I could put on my barbell was 10 lbs on each side... so needless to say I lifted more this time than I did last time.

For my triceps ... Fri, 3 Jun 2011 00:49:50 EST Water Aerobics... fun and full of wonderful people I got to the gym with the idea in mind that I would do my strength exercises on a stability ball and then swim for 20-30 minutes for cardio. When I got there, I found out they were actually preparing the pool for water aerobics so I tried that out.

The calorie counter says I burned about 300 calories doing an hour of water aerobics, so I didn't meet my goal, but I met a lot of really nice women and I do feel like I got a pretty decent workout.

I also found that I'm not... Wed, 1 Jun 2011 22:12:35 EST My little running lady has two people to pass up ...and then I'll be at my goal!

I weighed in this morning at 165. These last 15-20 pounds are a bitch to lose, but I'm plugging away at different things.

Today I was going to run 5 miles on the treadmill, but realized that the Zumba class was starting in 15 minutes. I ended up running 1.5 miles and then went to the Zumba class. Although it was fun and I kept up with most of it, I felt like I needed more instruction on the different moves. Most of the time I was just fl... Tue, 31 May 2011 20:42:51 EST First "bootcamp", meeting with a personal trainer, and weight update... Today I had my first "meeting" with a personal trainer. I had requested a guy (I don't know why... I just didn't want to sit with a girl), but they put me with a trainer named Jessica. She was nice, but at the same time I felt like it wasn't too positive of an experience. For starters, I made myself look as though I knew too much already when I told her I was suffering from residual DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). So, she started asking me about my diet as though I know a ton of informa... Sat, 28 May 2011 20:20:09 EST I really like my new gym ...but I'm aching from head to toe. I had my Body Pump class last night and it really kicked my butt.

Today I had another workshop. After 7 hours of hashing out curriculum and rubric writing, all I could think of was swimming.

I lasted 25 minutes in the pool (but I rested slightly after every lap because I was tired) and then I hit the hot tub... which was amazing after a hard swim with achy muscles.

I met this older woman named Sandy who used to be an aero... Sat, 28 May 2011 00:44:15 EST Hey Soul Sister... Wow, so today was productive!

I went to a Kagan workshop all day for work. I didn't workout in the morning like I have been the past two days and I really regretted it. It took me a lot to stay awake this morning. I felt like had I gone to the gym before going to school, I would have been more alert.

After work I went to Target and tried on some clothes. I fit into mediums! They're tight but I was able to get them over my body with absolutely no problems, which means t... Fri, 27 May 2011 00:22:27 EST 24 Hour Fitness, Swimming, and other things... So, I finally caved- I joined a gym.

What brought me to this? They opened the pool at my apartment, but the pool opens at 10 and I don't want to deal with kids in the pool... I want to swim laps. So, I joined the 24 Hour Fitness near my school.

Oddly enough, the woman who helped me with my registration is the sister of one of my former students. She congratulated me on my weight loss thus far and asked if I am with a program.

While SparkPeople technically ... Wed, 25 May 2011 19:16:49 EST No more excuses... Tomorrow I am working out.

I took a two-week break because it was the end of the year, my knees were hurting when I bent over, and I developed a cold.

But no more excuses. I'm going running, and I'm going to run IN THE MORNING... BEFORE I have to go to work and deal with the drama and stress of the day. I won't have any time to exercise after work, as I have to return for Stage Manager duty... so my ONLY time is in the morning, before I go to work...

I hope ... Mon, 23 May 2011 23:45:59 EST I love Spark People... and my stability ball. I honestly don't have much to say today except, I was able to do a core strength workout today:

3 sets of 15:
Lying Straight Leg Raises
Bicycle Crunches
Bridges
Reverse Crunch
Pendulum

30 back extensions on my stability ball
50 crunches on my stability ball

Goodnight! Mon, 9 May 2011 23:16:01 EST First day running in summer-like weather And I was about to drop. I went 3.1 miles in 30 minutes. I was supposed to go 4, but my head felt like it was going to explode from the heat. I ran to the treadmill and did another half a mile before I decided enough was enough. I was drenched in sweat when I got home, literally glistening.

Afterwards, I decided that rather than ruin the day by having heat exhaustion, I would calm down. The sun was baking me for most of my run, but there also was a pretty heavy breeze, so I figure... Sun, 8 May 2011 18:54:36 EST A few guidelines...and some insecurities... 1) It's ok to have a good time once in a while. It's okay to drink a little too much when you've been working so hard to be consistent for the past 6 months. It's not okay, however, to wear heels that are way too tall for you if you are going to have trouble walking straight WITHOUT the shoes on.

2) Have a little more faith in yoga and pilates. Especially when you sweat just by holding your legs in the air.

3) Don't get down on yourself about prepping for the half mara...
