I made friends, stayed motivated and hit my goal weight. We moved, I started working again and as my daughter got older her activities increased. I was working and doing everyday things. By the time I got home and done with everything the last thing I wanted to do was exercise. I wanted to sit down, watch some TV and have a snack. So that is exactly what I did!

Fast forward 4 years and an additional 20 pounds! I signed onto S... My 19 year old son went to Parris Island, S.C. for 13 weeks of Marine Boot Camp. He's been gone for 3 1/2 weeks. I'm missing him more than I thought possible. I wait for the mailman everyday. I wait for the truck and then I run to the mailbox like it's Christmas. I've been writing to him every other day. He was called to leave 2 weeks earlier than planned so we never had a going away party :(

Shortly before he left I rejoined weight watchers and he would always ask me how I was do... Thu, 1 Jul 2010 14:54:47 EST Weight Watchers! I've rejoined weight watchers. We moved and I was able to find a meeting close to me with my old leader that truly motivated me. I love how I feel when I'm eating healthier and really enjoy her meetings. I actually look forward to thursday nights to get on the scale and get motivated to face a new week! So far I'm down 12 lbs. I'm still struggling with exercising regularly but am hoping to get back on track. i'm running my 2nd 5K on July 10th. My goal is to finish a little faster than last ... Mon, 28 Jun 2010 21:38:46 EST No excuse will work! I started to write this blog with a long drawn out explanation about how we moved and blah , blah, blah but then I realized that it didn't matter. The facts are for the past 3 months I have not exercised of watched what I ate and the outcome was a 12 pound weight gain. Today is the day I will get my life back on track. I'll count calories and exercise everyday. I know I'll need support from others who are going through the same thing and that's where my spark friends have always helped me. I'... Mon, 4 Jan 2010 08:32:36 EST Frustrated and not sure what to do I'm on W7D2 of C25k and that is going great. If you told me 7 weeks ago I would be running 25 minutes straight hills and all I would have said I don't think so. But I'm doing it and loving the feeling of accomplishment I get.

My weight on the other hand is a whole different story. Since I started the program I have gained 5 lbs. As most of you know I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (a form of hypothyroidism). I'm sure that's the reason for my gains and has nothing to do with my run... Tue, 14 Jul 2009 19:00:28 EST W7D1 - WOW I went out this morning for an early morning run. I'm on week 7 Day 1 which is a 25 minute run. I'm amazed that I'm running 25 minutes straight. I can remember 7 weeks ago when 60 seconds felt like an eternity. I'm loving this program and the feeling of accomplishment I get every time I finish a run!! Sat, 11 Jul 2009 19:28:35 EST How W6D1 became W6D2

Yesterday we went to a picnic at my in laws house. Emily had no nap for the second day in a row. So when we were getting ready to come home (40 minute drive) I put Emily in her night gown . She asked if she could sleep at nana's and without hesitation Nana said yes. Emily has not slept at their house in about 6 months. I was super excited because I knew I could get my run in in the morning. I've come to learn th... Mon, 6 Jul 2009 10:17:24 EST C25k Week 5 and the dreaded 20 minute run Done!!! I ran W5D3 this morning and completed the whole 20 minute run and finished strong. I'm really enjoying this program and looking forward to running longer and longer. I'll be doing W6D1 in the morning. I can't believe it's been 5 weeks and I've been consistent with the program, never giving up, pushing through and finishing strong.

Sun, 5 Jul 2009 20:32:52 EST I owned W5D2!! DH had today off from work which was a pleasant surprise. I got up early and got on my new running shorts and sneakers. I was on my way out for a little me time with my friend Robert Ullrey. For the last 5 weeks I've come to know his voice so well and almost crave it. I was a little skeptical about jumping from 5 minutes to 8 minutes but with a little encouragement from my friends I decided to go for it. My first run went very smoothly and I felt like the brisk walk was much to long, I patien... Fri, 3 Jul 2009 15:10:50 EST W5D1 and a tornado

I was scheduled to run W5D1 on Friday. I completed W4D3 last night. I'll be starting week 5 on Friday, looking ahead to day 3 really scares me, I 'm not sure how I'll do with the jump from 8 minutes running to 20 minutes. Hopefully with 2 more runs and I'll be ready, If not I'll repeat week 5 day 2 until I can make the full 20 minute run.

Any suggestions or tips from anyone who has already done the program?

I'll be blogging Friday to let you know how W5D1 went. I can't believe it's been 4 weeks already and... Thu, 25 Jun 2009 08:22:22 EST W4D2 , one more day until the dreaded W5 Went out tonight at about 6:30 and completed W4D2. The last few minutes of the last 5 minute run are trying to bring me down, but I won't let them. I found it very hard but I pushed through and completed the run!!! One more day and then on to week 5. Week 5 looks pretty scary..... Sun, 21 Jun 2009 21:10:27 EST W4D1 - Oh My!! As most of you know I don't mince words, I'm a say it like it is kind a girl. I just finished W4D1 and the last 5 minute run almost (almost I said) got me. Wow was it hard. I pushed through and kicked A$$ again. My dear friend D says to watch out because week 5 it starts to kick back, LOL

I must say I am so proud of myself. I always have good intentions of starting a good exercise program, but never follow through. When it starts to get tuff I find every excuse to give up. Not thi... Fri, 19 Jun 2009 10:27:27 EST Best $100 I ever spent! I just got back doing W3D2 of C25K in my new Adidas Response running sneakers. OMG they are awesome, if you don't have a good pair of running sneakers get them. What a difference they make, I felt like I was running on air.

W3D2 done, one more day and then on to week 4! I did notice that the more I run the less calories I seem to burn. I guess it's because I'm in better shape so I'm not working as hard, I'm not sure. As for weight loss, none. I've actually gained a pound. I'm hopi... Mon, 15 Jun 2009 10:23:39 EST My New Running Sneakers

I did it, I splurged and bought some new running sneakers. I asked a few friends who are avid runners and they said they loved Soucony running sneakers. I went to the store they recommended (The Run IN). I was told that I had a slightly flat feet. I found it to be easier than last week. I actually wished there was more running. I'll finish up the next 2 days of the week but can't wait to move on to Week 4 and have more of a challenge! Sat, 13 Jun 2009 10:07:38 EST C25K week 2 Done, bring on week 3!! I just finished W2D3 halfway through when he said time for a 2 minute brisk walk I wanted to keep jogging so I did. I jogged the 90 seconds, straight through the 2 minute brisk walk and kept going for the next 90 second jog. I just jogged 5 minutes straight!!! I took the last 2 minute cool down and my final 90 second run. I am so ready for week 3, I'll take tomorrow off and start on Saturday. I can't believe I'm excited about running, but I am. I'm going to splurge and buy myself a new pair o... Thu, 11 Jun 2009 17:33:08 EST I felt like a kid again! Last Sunday DH was outside playing with Emily while I got dinner ready. I called them in and saw all the chalk on the driveway. Emily reported that they were playing Hopscotch. She had a ton of fun and I was able to make dinner by myself.

Monday morning I left to go grocery shopping and promised Emily we would play a came of Hopscotch before we left. As I walked towards the Hopscotch Board (as Emily calls it) I saw this heart with DH and My initials in it. I instantly got a huge s... Thu, 11 Jun 2009 07:13:46 EST Another day off the couch and on the pavement! W2D2 Done and for some crazy reason I can't wait to do W2D3. I've really been enjoying this program. I've found this week to be very doable. I feel like I could run farther if I had to. I think I'll do fine next week. Mind you I've never run before and always wondered why people enjoyed it so much. I think I get it now. Tue, 9 Jun 2009 18:05:40 EST Is Sunday a day of rest? I've heard that Sunday is a day of rest, not for me it wasn't. DH was home this morning so I decided to get out there and do C25K this morning. It was warm and sunny with a nice breeze, big change from the last 2 days that were raining. I found it to be very doable. A bit harder than last week but not to hard. W2D1 done and I feel so good, can't wait for day 2!

Now DH and I are off to mow the lawn and do some yard work. As always we'll have Emily right there to help (LOL) Have a gr... Sun, 7 Jun 2009 11:06:16 EST Week one of C25K DONE, now on to week two!! I just finished W1D3 of the C25K program. Just wanted to add that it was raining again and as I've been told I did not melt. LOL I'm so excited to start week two on Sunday. Today was definitely easier than the first 2 days. I wasn't as out of breath and was surprised when it was time to walk. I found a good route that works for me it's some up hill and some down hill and also some straight a ways. Takes me 30 minutes to get back home. I figure as my speed increases I'll have to increase my ro... Fri, 5 Jun 2009 13:02:05 EST W1D2 of C25K Completed!! Woot Woot I wanted to get up early and run before DH went to work, but when I woke up at 5 am my stomach was killing me. It bothered me on and off all morning. I decided to put Emily in for a nap and have my 18 year old son watch her when he got home from school. That didn't happen, he got a call from his Petty officer for the NAVY and had to go in for some training, so there goes that idea. I'd have to wait for DH to get home from work and go then. DH got home about 5 PM and it was raining out. I sai... Wed, 3 Jun 2009 18:03:35 EST I survived my 1st day of C25K My 1st day of C25K

Today I started the couch to 5K program. I'm using the pod casts by Robert Ullrey. The program and pod casts were recommended to me by my spark buddy DMUNOZ. Thank you D , you've been a great support to me :)

Let me start out by saying I'm 41 and can't remember the last time I ran. I love the pod casts, the music is up beat and Robert is very motivating. I was in mid pod cast running down the street and I thought OMG look at me I'm a 41 year old mot... Mon, 1 Jun 2009 10:08:35 EST Thyroid, House , Deployment = Stress? As most of you know I have Hashimoto's Disease and have been struggling to find a happy medium with my thyroid medication and weight gain/loss has been a roller coaster ride for me the past 2 years. Despite doing everything right my thyroid refuses to behave and unfortunately I'm gaining again.

I wish I could at lease maintain instead of gain. I went from 135 to 144 in 4 weeks. Funny how I went from wanting to see a low number on the scale to just wanting to feel good. My hair has... Mon, 18 May 2009 08:20:30 EST Happy Mother's Day???? I always have such mixed feelings on Mother's Day. I love to celebrate the fact that I'm a mother and enjoy spending time with my kids. But the fact that my mother is no longer with me and she passed away right after Mother's Day makes it a very hard time for me.

My mother in law seems to take it for granted that she's able to celebrate Mother's Day and complains about the gifts her sons get her. This year I told my husband he was in charge of getting his Mother's gift himself.... Fri, 8 May 2009 15:07:33 EST Why can't I see what others see?

Yesterday DH told me I looked really good and he said he could definitely tell I'm losing weight. Of course I think he's just saying it so I asked him to take a full length picture of me (something I rarely let happen). I keep looking at it and honestly I know it's me, but that's not what I see when I look in the mirror. Why do I look different in the mirror? I posted the picture last night and am amazed at the respo... Mon, 2 Feb 2009 11:28:45 EST Does it really matter how much we have to lose? When I started my weight loss journey I had 25 lbs to lose. I know that may not seem like a lot to some people but honestly does it really matter how much weight we have to lose? Whether you have 100 lbs to lose or 10 lbs to lose it's hard. I know that we all face the same struggles no matter how far we've come or how far we still have to go. Why should it matter anyways, we're all headed in the same direction and looking for the same end result.

I just want to say that I don't d... Fri, 30 Jan 2009 14:00:07 EST Weight Watchers Again! I decided to rejoin Weight Watchers. I felt that going to the meetings and having an official weigh in would help keep me on track. The only time I can go is at night or I would have my 2 year old daughter and not be able to stay and enjoy the meetings. I dreaded weighing in at night and with clothes on ( I always weigh 1st thing in the AM in my birthday suit). Maybe that's TMI, but oh well. LOL I joined Tuesday Jan 13th with my sister and a good friend. I weighed in at 145. I almost cried w... Thu, 22 Jan 2009 14:11:57 EST New Year, New Week, New start! It's a new year and today is the start of a new week so what better time for a new start than now? I haven't been good with eating or exercise for the past two weeks and as a result I've gained 2 1/2 pounds back. UGH! Time to get back on track and get moving.

I joined SparkPeople's bootcamp challenge. My thyroid seems to be at a good level with the meds I'm taking and my BP is good so all my medical excuses are gone. If I eat right (low carb), stay within my calorie range and exer... Sun, 4 Jan 2009 12:40:39 EST Emily's Ginger Bread House

I planned on having my family and my husbands family over for dinner and to make ginger bread houses. Fri, 19 Dec 2008 22:17:12 EST Getting my groove back! For some reason I've lost my exercise groove. I was on a role and was exercising 6 days a week, taking Sundays off. I wasn't feeling so well last week and didn't exercise for a few days. When I started feeling better I found an excuse everyday not to exercise. I looked back last night and realized it's been 11 days since I rode my spin bike.

Luckily I've been really good watching my calories and carb intake and have maintained my weight at 142 lbs. My goal for 2008 was to get back ... Fri, 19 Dec 2008 09:56:26 EST North Pole Express

Tonight DH and I took Emily on the North Pole Express. We got on the steam train at the station and went to the North pole to pick up Santa & Mrs Claus. On the way we were told the story of the night before Christmas. Mrs Claus had cookies and hot coco for everyone and Santa gave all the children a bell. After we took a little ride we dropped them off at home and headed back to the train station. On the way we sang Ch... Wed, 3 Dec 2008 22:46:21 EST I will NOT give up! I haven't been on Spark as much as I usually am. I've been trying to spend less time online. I'm the president of my local Moms club and also a moderator for Freecycle. So between the two I tend to be on the computer more than I like. I don't want to take time away from my daughter to be online and since I exercise during her nap I don't have that time either. I'd like to thank all my spark friends for the support they give me. I also want to say that just because I'm not on as much as I ... Wed, 19 Nov 2008 07:49:24 EST Update on me & my new Spin Bike! I have been totally off track all week. I guess I'm tired of doing everything right and nothing changing. I'm one of those people who judge myself on what the scale says. I got up this morning and for the first time since I can remember I did Not weigh myself. I recently had an increase in my thyroid meds and still haven't seen any change, it's getting very frustrating to me. I haven't been able to lose weight since March and since being on the Thyroid meds I have gained 6 lbs.

... Thu, 23 Oct 2008 14:05:45 EST Another Spin Class! Last night I had my 3rd spinning class and all I can say is I kicked Butt!! I was able to keep up for the entire hour! There is definitely something to be said for mind over matter. What a difference when your body is at 100% and your not sick. I have 5 more classes left and I'm looking forward to them. I have never done any type of exercise that I felt so good about when I was finished.

I have had several people email me and say that they have always wanted to try spinning, bu... Fri, 10 Oct 2008 12:44:33 EST My Second Spin Class Let me start out by saying I've been sick since Saturday. I've had a bad cold that seems to be settling in my chest. I've always been the push through it type so even though I was feeling really weak and had no energy I threw on my sneakers and headed out the door.....

I get to the Spin class and I'm really feeling yucky, but I figure it's and hour class we probably spin for 45 minutes. I can handle it, I'll just push through the tuff spots. Positive thought can help you through a... Fri, 3 Oct 2008 21:13:35 EST My first Spinning class. I took my first Spinning class tonight and all I can say is Holy S*%T! It was really really hard. There were a few times that I thought I couldn't take it any longer. When my mind started to wander I told myself to focus. All I could hear was Jillian Michaels in my mind saying you can do this don't give up and I hung in there. Finally I hear the instructor say "back on the seat". My heart was pounding and my legs were shaking. I though thank god we get to sit and before I knew it she sa... Thu, 25 Sep 2008 20:50:00 EST 4 more weeks - UGH! Nothing new really to report. I'm still struggling to maintain my weight. Although I feel a bit less tired since starting Levothyroxine (it's been 4 weeks). I still have hair loss , dry skin and mood swings (poor Hubby). I can tell that this dose is not going to be strong enough for me. My doctor is insistent on waiting 8 weeks so I have another 4 weeks before I get my levels tested and go back for a recheck.. Although I feel like it's a wasted month there is nothing I can do except wait.... Fri, 19 Sep 2008 13:15:32 EST Doctors Visit Update I went to the Doctors today and good news is that after my blood pressure medication was lowered 3 weeks ago my Blood pressure is still good, actually she said great. I go back in 6 weeks and if it's still good she may lower my dose again.

I haven't really noticed any change yet from my thyroid medication. I may be a tiny bit less tired. The Doctor told me it takes 6 - 8 weeks. I'll have blood work done in 6 weeks before I go back and then she will adjust my medication if need be... Thu, 11 Sep 2008 13:21:08 EST Dealing with my recent diagnosis of Hashimoto's Disease I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease which is the cause of my Hypothyroidism. I started taking a thyroid hormone (levothyroxine) last week. I was told that it takes about 2 months for the hormone to build up in your system. I patiently wait until I start to feel like my old self again. In the meantime I want to learn as much as I can about Hypothyroidism so I can help myself and others. Together with my friend Jen we have started a new Spark team called "Staying Positive with... Wed, 27 Aug 2008 14:05:04 EST Please help welcome my sister to Spark! My sister just joined Spark her screen name is NASCARGIRL48. Please help welcome her to Spark. I'm hoping that she will get the support that I have and make as many friends as I have here. I know that without the support of my spark friends I would not have made it this far. Thanks for your help!
247
~Wendy Fri, 22 Aug 2008 18:41:29 EST Finally an answer to my question! I have asked myself and anyone else who would listen this question "Why can't I lose weight?". I have tried everything possible and everything that works for everyone else never works for me. I have been stuck at what I thought was a plateau for about 5 months. I have also been extremely tired, so tired I feel like I can barely keep my eyes open by mid day. Come to find out I have a hypothyroidism. When I asked my doctor how low my thyroid was she explained it like this to me. If thyroid... Tue, 19 Aug 2008 13:39:13 EST My first reward!! I started my journey to a healthier lifestyle on January 2nd 2008. To date I have lost 16 lbs. Since I started I have never given myself a reward for reaching goals. A few weeks ago I decided to update my spark page and make some mini goals with rewards for myself. I hit my first mini goal last week and rewarded myself yesterday with a pedicure. I am always barefoot so let me tell you, I needed it bad! I was even daring and picked a bright pink polish.

Stay tuned, my next m... Fri, 15 Aug 2008 09:58:07 EST He's Back!! Last night we picked my son up from the airport. I haven't seen him in 3 weeks except for one night that he came home did laundry repacked and I dropped him off at the airport. After several delays in his flight and a few long hours spent at the airport with a 2 year old we were finally home. I couldn't wait to spend some time with him today. He left this morning around 9 am with a few friends. I'm sure he'll be home for dinner. Oh well I guess when I was a teenager I wasn't home much ei... Mon, 11 Aug 2008 13:52:08 EST The "Little" things. Sometimes I'm not sure what's harder, being a mom to a toddler who needs you all the time or a mom to a teenager who really doesn't need you as much as you think they should. My oldest son is 20 and no longer lives at home, although we remain very close and he comes over atleast once a week. My middle child, he is 17. He belongs to the NAVAL sea cadet's and has been a member for 3+ years now. Every summer he goes off to do a few different trainings. So i'm used to him flying on his own ... Thu, 31 Jul 2008 13:31:08 EST To walk or not to walk? Last night I was on Spark checking out some spark pages. I was looking at different sparkers and thinking WOW - she looks amazing, I can't believe the difference. Then I said to myself, I wish i could get in shape like that. I started feeling sorry for myself thinking how I have been stuck at this plateau for 4 months. So I asked myself "Are you doing everything you could be doing to make your weight loss successful" and the answer was no. I started thinking about my $400 jogging strolle... Wed, 30 Jul 2008 09:40:26 EST I'm back !! This is for those of you who were wondering where I have been for the last week. I had an intestinal virus and let me tell you it wasn't fun. i tried to get on a few times, but I could barely sit up without feeling faint. I'm feeling much better and plan on getting back to my normal routine on Monday. I'm sure that this could only happen to me, but with being sick all week and not exercising I gained 2 lbs.

Thankfully I am feeling better the last few days. My son's 20th birthda...
