NANCYMOORE4's SparkPeople Blog NANCYMOORE4's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community How do I get my mojo back? I am so frustrated with myself. Last year I started on my healthy lifestyle change and was very successful until about December. Then I started slipping back into some of my bad habits (like eating too much sugar) and I stagnated for several months. But over the last 2 months, I have gained 10 pounds back of the 90+ I lost last year.

I give myself a pep talk every morning and say that yesterday is done and gone and today is a new day to get back on track, and every day by mid-af... Thu, 30 May 2013 22:16:32 EST Water Solutions I'm lucky in that I have always enjoyed drinking water. I always keep a three-cup water bottle on my desk at work and I fill up two pitchers with ice and keep those on my desk, too. I tend to crunch ice all day (almost feels like I'm eating something if I'm chewing ice), and add the melted ice water to my water bottle as I drink that down.

At least something about this journey is easy! Fri, 8 Feb 2013 12:23:23 EST Thank you, SparkPeople! I have spent the last two months gaining and losing the same 3 pounds over and over again. While I am happy that I have lost 85 pounds so far and at least didn't actually gain anything over the holidays, this yo-yo thing is never going to get the last 45 pounds off. And I have a cruise to go on in 7 months, so I NEED TO GET IT OFF!

I am under no delusions about why I haven't been able to keep losing. My calories have crept up and crept up and while I was pretty good about sweets... Fri, 18 Jan 2013 19:50:31 EST Losing Muscle In the past two months that I have been working with a personal trainer at the gym, I have lost 3 pounds of muscle! I've also lost 7 pounds of fat, but that 3 pounds of muscle is annoying. When I told her that I thought the point of strength training was to ADD muscle, not lose it, she agreed and said I needed to change the way I eat.

I have trouble getting enough protein everyday and she recommends eating 5 or 6 smaller meals rather than the three regular size ones I am eating n... Thu, 6 Dec 2012 10:31:13 EST Frustrating Day I admit it. I am one of those people who lets the scale dictate my mood, and today, I was NOT in a good mood. One week ago, I was down another 5 pounds to a net loss of 85 pounds. This was very exciting for me. I had done well through Thanksgiving and I was freezing cookies for Christmas so as not to overeat during the month of December.

Then today, I was up those same 5 pounds. This is incredibly frustriating for me. I subscribe to Spark Coach, so today I changed programs to... Sat, 1 Dec 2012 22:09:38 EST The Cookie Dilemma Last year between Thanksgiving and Christmas I made (and consumed) about 100 pounds of caramels, cookies, toffee crunch candy, etc. And the scale showed it. I gained about 7 pounds that month.

My problem is that I LOVE baking. I own more cookie cookbooks and magazines than probably anybody else on the planet. But I know that if I make all those goodies, I won't have the willpower to not eat them all. What to do.....

I've decided that the way to have my cake (cookies... Sun, 25 Nov 2012 11:42:43 EST A New Milestone Yesterday, I reached 80 pounds in weight loss. You would not believe how happy I was ALL DAY. It seemed like I had been stuck at 77 pounds for a month. (Possibly that was because it HAD been almost a month.) I have Mondays off from work, but I went in for 10 minutes just so I could put a new sticker up on the group weight loss chart we are keeping for every 5 pounds we lose. (Our little team of 8 people have now lost 230 pounds in the last year.)

My happiness carried over to m... Tue, 6 Nov 2012 10:35:37 EST That Ridiculous Scale So, I've been going to the gym daily since I joined 10 days ago. Magically the pounds started dropping off again after having hit a mini plateau. Talk about inspiring! How great to know that exercising for 60 minutes a day (instead of none, which had been my norm for the last bazillion years) could jump start my metabolism and get the scale moving in the right direction again. Down 4 pounds in those 10 days, and my nutrition tracker was telling me to eat 200 extra calories a day to keep ... Tue, 9 Oct 2012 10:49:39 EST FitBit Ultra I bought a FitBit Ultra pedometer and got it on Wednesday. Even though I am going to the gym 5 days a week, I wanted to know how many steps I was actually taking.

One of the neat things this pedometer does is track how many flights of stairs you went up each day. Today we drove to Mt. Rainier and went on a short hike (since I am just starting to really exercise). The hike down was slightly downhill all the way, so of course the hike back was slightly uphill all the way. When ... Sat, 6 Oct 2012 19:26:32 EST I have a Personal Trainer! I went to the gym for my complimentary 1 hour session with a personal trainer and walked out with a personal trainer meeting with me weekly for a year. Am I a sucker? I actually liked this guy, and even though he is young and very fit, he had lost 110 pounds in the last 2 years so I felt he could understand my situation pretty well. He has also had knee injuries, so will understand that, too.

I will be working harder at the gym than I originally anticipated, but at this point I ... Tue, 2 Oct 2012 10:37:53 EST I joined a gym! For the last week, I have been walking around the block (1/2 mile) every day to ease myself back into exercise after my knee replacement surgery. I have enjoyed it and I'm getting ready to expand the distance, but it is almost October, so the rainy season of Seattle is almost upon us. And since the rainy season lasts from October - May, I probably won't be doing a lot of outdoor walking. So I bit the bullet and joined LA Fitness yesterday.

I have a friend/co-worker who also join... Sun, 30 Sep 2012 12:31:00 EST Why I want to lose weight - Part 2 I have always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise. I live near Seattle, so an Alaskan cruise doesn't involve having to pay to fly anywhere first. Last year I thought we might actually be able to afford to go, so I was looking into the cost and also the excursions available at the ports of call.

I was talking to a co-worker who has cruised many times and she was talking about all of the photos the cruise photographers take of you while on the ship and then post in a prominent place,... Sat, 29 Sep 2012 12:13:18 EST Why do I want to lose weight? - Part 1 I work at my church and therefore I have experienced more funerals in the last few years than ever before in my lifetime. What does that have to do with wanting to lose weight? Well, I decided several years ago that I wanted to be cremated when I die, for the sole and simple reason that I didn't want people looking at my fat body at my funeral. I could just imagine the embarassment I would feel (even though dead) of it taking 27 people to carry my coffin, or not being able to fit inside it... Fri, 28 Sep 2012 10:48:50 EST Out for a Fitness Walk Today I went for my first fitness walk since having my knee replaced less than 7 weeks ago. It was also my first fitness walk in about 15 years. I used to walk 3-4 miles per day 5 days per weeks way back when, and when I didn't work. I had a buddy to walk with, so the time passed fairly quickly as we always had something to talk about.

Over the last 15 years I have put weight on, taken some of it off, put more on and had numerous health issues over the last 6 years. Lots of exc... Sun, 23 Sep 2012 16:27:19 EST Bottling motivation I am fortunate in that seven of my co-workers are working on healthier life styles with me. In fact we have a chart up in the office and anytime any of us loses 5 pounds, we put a sticker on the chart. When we got to 100 pounds lost as a group, we had a fun outing. We have now lost over 200 pounds and need to agree on our next reward.

But we were talking last time about how we wish we could bottle the days when following our plan is almost effortless so we could tap into that on... Wed, 19 Sep 2012 21:28:13 EST Sickness & Motivation I have had a fairly bad cold for the last 5 days and have found my willpower sadly lacking during that time. It seems much harder for me to stick with healthy food choices during this time as all I want to eat are sweets, and since I am avoiding those, I just want to eat anything constantly.

I know this too shall pass, but I am surprised at how hard it is to stay motivated during this sick time.

Does this happen to anyone else? Tue, 18 Sep 2012 13:15:07 EST Am I healthier? Six weeks ago I had knee replacement surgery on my right knee. Today I am completely pain free and have complete range of motion with that knee. That's to be expected, right? Well, 20 months ago I had that same knee replaced and I was in pain for the entire 20 months, unable to walk more than about fifty feet at a time. What was the difference? This time I weighed 60 pounds less than I did the first time. Did that 60 pounds make a difference? Well, that is about 180 less pounds of pres... Tue, 18 Sep 2012 09:53:37 EST Fell off the wagon today... I woke up with a terrible cold, and have felt awful all day. My day started off all right. I had a glass of milk in the morning and an egg and english muffin at lunch. Then I made popcorn. It was airpopped, and I always intend to spray it with a little PAM and popcorn flavoring, but it is so bland that way that I ended up melting butter and adding it. Then I ate the whole thing. 9 billion calories. (OK. Not quite. But WAY more than I needed.) Then I made my favorite dinner and ate 2... Sat, 15 Sep 2012 22:37:05 EST Meal Planning Making a list of quick to fix meals has been on my list of things to do for months, but I haven't done it yet.

During the work week, I usually have the same breakfast every day: a glass of milk, a toasted English muffin and a scrambled egg with a tablespoon of cheese to put on the muffin. It is about 350 calories.

Lunch is a difficult meal for me as I don't like a lot of traditional lunch foods. I don't eat salads, or fruits (at all), so lunch will frequently be a pa... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 10:45:32 EST Done with PT! Tomorrow will be 5 weeks since my knee replacement surgery and today was my last physical therapy session. I am so happy with the way this one turned out. I have my list of excerises to do at home to keep strengthening my leg muscles.

Last time I had this knee replaced I went to PT for 4 months without very good results. Everything about this time has been so much better.

Now if I could just sleep! Mon, 10 Sep 2012 15:24:03 EST Birthday Celebration We celebrated my 30 year-old son's birthday last night. I made a chocolate mascarpone pound cake with about 250 calories per slice. I knew I would be having some, so as usual on a weekend, I just stayed upstairs puttering around until noon, so I didn't eat breakfast. (I eat breakfast every day during the week.) That lowered my calorie intake until dinner, but I did go over my allotment of calories at dinner. My daughter had made luscious mac and cheese, and we had sourdough bread with ol...
