MYTHMYTH's SparkPeople Blog MYTHMYTH's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Small Steps As this round of BLC is ending we are challenged to “Blog about the round and your next steps. What do you need now to get healthier?”
I have been gaining and losing the same 5 lbs over the last 12 weeks. And I haven't really been successful in sustaining my fitness efforts since June. I have been doing quite a lot of thinking and reading about what I need to do to get healthier. There are so many things that I want to change - I could quite a long list of them. But I think the mo... Sun, 9 Aug 2015 14:37:14 EST Pine Needle Baskets Spark Friends here are some photos of the Pine Needle Baskets that I am making for family members for Christmas. The first basket is one that I made for DD for bracelets,,earrings and other small things . So far that is the only one that is finished.

The hardest part of the basket is the center start. DDs is started with a fossil snail.
Since DS is a geophysicist, his is started with a slice of rock.
... Sun, 7 Dec 2014 09:28:29 EST Expectations for BLC26
(Sorry but I can't seem to get this photo uploaded in the correct orientation)
Fall is a time of change and new beginnings. Summer fades and the quiet cool days of autumn slip in - with clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine. We pack up the lawn chairs, bring in the remainder of the garden and enjoy the last few glorious tomatoes of the season. As I think about the next 12 weeks, I'm kind of like those two ter... Sun, 21 Sep 2014 13:10:54 EST FAT and Hungry This week my Spark Friend Katie got me thinking about obesity and will power. Am I fat because I lack will power? If I just had more will power, would I no longer be fat?? There’s an interesting article in today’s NY Times titled “Always Hungry? Here’s why”. The authors pose the question “ Are we fat because we overeat or do we over eat because we’re fat?” and suggest that the simple solution is to not overeat by exerting more willpower. The problem, they point out is that this advic... Sun, 18 May 2014 09:50:36 EST Gratitude Gratitude Journal

There are so many things to be grateful for:

1. For all those in the healing professions – especially the Dr. who kindly stayed late yesterday to see me and who gave me a cortisone shot to relieve the terrible pain in my shoulder.

2. For general good health so that I can laugh and play and enjoy life.

3. Wed, 19 Feb 2014 17:49:02 EST 2014 Goals - February Check in I have been reading the blogs of two spark friend MALAMI518 and TRAVELGRRL, who have been doing monthly updates on their progress toward their goals. That monthly review seems like a really good idea to me - especially in regard to making changes. So I've taken a close look at my goals and revised them (and I invite your suggestions for improving them). I've revised my step count since my fitbit doesn't count my workout if I am on the elliptical or the bike. Plus our cold weather makes... Fri, 22 Nov 2013 09:39:56 EST What XL means to me Spark friends, I have to share a NSV with you - my tops that are plus size 1X or 2X aren't fitting me very well anymore. The pile for donation is getting bigger and bigger. I went shopping for a sweater this week - to dress barn (where plus size clothes are on one side of the shop and regular sizes are on the other side. AND the XLs all fit! If the fabric was thin they did show a muffin top, but lots of them actually fit! It made my day! I can shop in regular sizes again!!!!!!!
I ca... Wed, 10 Jul 2013 10:29:51 EST Straw Bale GardenUpdate - end of June
The garden in straw bales is doing better than the garden planted in the ground (for beans, lettuce and tomatoes and basil). However some of the plants didnt do well - the snow peas were doing very well and then just as they flowered, I noticed a white powdery film on some of the leaves (I think some kind of fungus). So I pulled all fo them out. Two of... Sun, 30 Jun 2013 15:05:03 EST BLC 22 Goals - is this boring or what???? Sat, 4 May 2013 12:55:33 EST Back on Track The reason I am overweight and out of shape is because I have allowed myself to believe ( and to act like) that my weight is out of my control. But it really isn't. I have two neighbors (same age) who have lost large amounts of weight and vastly improved their fitness over the winter. They look great and I want to look and feel as good as they do. I am tired of being tired. I am tired of starting over. My weight is a result of the decisions I make everyday - and I need to make better d... I had done one a bit ago, so I took a look at it again to see what I would change and decided that I really had captured the important things about the future - the importance of faith, of doing more things actively with my husband and family- but also the importance of capturing this moment, each moment, and ding the things that I alone must do in order to... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 08:33:21 EST MORE than just numbers on a scale Next Wednesday, when I reflect on the last week, I am going to make sure that I consider MORE than just the numbers on the scale. Although I really want to get my BMI down from 38.9, I realize that I need to consider MORE each week. I can’t have such a narrow view. So I am going to make sure that I consider three other things this week:
1. Energy level – How am I feeling? Do I have more energy than I did last Wednesday?
2. Healthy Habits – When I look at my food tracker, have... Sun, 20 Jan 2013 15:02:21 EST BLC 21 Fitness test 185

We were challenged to begin with a fitness test! Ugh! One of my challenges today was to blog about visualization. And as I thought about the future and where I wanted to be, it reminded me of the Action Plans that I use with my student teachers (regardless of how good they are) as a tool for continuous improvement. I know a lot about Action Plans and use them very, very successfully with novice teachers. Time to take some of that knowledge and apply it to make my future more... Wed, 16 Jan 2013 10:34:29 EST Goal - To Do just ONE pushup Push ups have always been something that I couldn't do - lack of arm strength plus my weight ( now compounded by knee replacements and fused toes). But today - the program challenge on Spark Coach included changing my fitness goals and I began reading about push ups.. Spark suggested several training programs for getting to the point of actually doing a real push up and I was surprised to find that there were suggestions that didn't involve getting down on the floor. I can train by doing... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 11:29:36 EST Remember What's Important Last Sunday in church we prayed for the family of a 10 year old child who died......... an apparently healthy child before he contracted the flu.. I have been thinking about him and about his family a lot this week. And felt compelled to write this shotr post as a reminder to all of us to remember what's important and to make the most of each day we have. Tue, 8 Jan 2013 19:09:09 EST Any advice on moderation ? Today my challenge is to blog about an area that needs moderation. In my case that could be either food (definitely an excess in that area) or exercise ( definitely not enough). One of the most difficult thing for me to recognize that the primary problem isn’t what I eat, or even how much I eat, but rather how and why I eat. Now I love to cook and I really, really like good food and good wine. So part of the issue is that I truly enjoy the tastes. But I have to admit that it's the first fe... Sat, 8 Dec 2012 12:15:48 EST Lessons from Geese Autumn has come to northeastern New York. Although we have not had a frost yet, we expect it soon. Last weekend was the time to bring in the last of our garden – lovely leaf lettuce and armfuls of fragrant rosemary and sage. I sat on the deck enjoying the last warm rays of the day, listening to the echoing honks of the geese far overhead on their way south. They are amazing creatures and harbingers of the other amazing changes all around me – from the bounty of the summer garden that wo... Thu, 11 Oct 2012 15:17:42 EST Do you know what it feels like to be the biggest person in an exercise class? Do you know what it’s like to be the biggest person in an exercise class?
I have attended exercise classes at the Y before, but usually I haven’t been up front – close to those mirrors. Also the other classes that I have taken have been faster paced, so I never really got a good look at myself in action. But this class was different – it was designed for older folks ( Forever Young is the name of the class – you get the idea)….So the pacing gave me time to notice myself in the mirror. ... Mon, 24 Sep 2012 10:04:23 EST Day 1 BLC20 Today I am starting BLC 20 with lots of enthusiasm and goals for the day:

Pack a gym bag for the car.- swimsuit, flip flops, towel, shorts , top, sneakers, lotion/makeup for after shower.

At least 10 min of exercise every day ( hopefully more but at least 10 not matter what)

Drink water!

3 fruits and veggies everyday

Tracking
Thu, 13 Sep 2012 10:09:22 EST I need a new beginning! I started today focusing on what hadn't happened in the past few weeks...the things I had eaten over the long weekend, the exercise I hadn't done, the weight I hadn't lost, the activities that would be harder for me to do this fall because of that. Ever thought was what hadn't been done. Do you ever find yourself there in that negative mode where all you can see is what you haven't done? I'm not sure why I started the day that way because I tend to view the glass as half full rather than e... Fri, 7 Sep 2012 14:25:06 EST
