One take-away here is that we can give our brain a similar rewarding feeling by eating lots of food variety. Our brain is wired to enjoy different or novel foods.

So my problem is that I eat healthy choices and I've got potion control under control. But sometimes I just reeeeeally want some sugar! I'm trying to eat 200 different foods this year (see my list in my last blog). It seems to help! I still desire sugar but apparen... We all tend to eat the same things over and over. It thinks it's OK to have some go-to meals like my 3 vegetable, 2 egg lunch that I just ate. Or my breakfast smoothies with kale, cocoa and strawberries. But in an effort to get more nutrients from real food rather than supplements I am going to push myself to choose foods from this list throughout the year. The list is fairly Paleo-ish altho... If I walk more than five minutes, I have pain. I can't lift anything more than 10 pounds.

Yesterday I had a follow up with my surgeon. She frowned and made that ominous hmmmmmm noise. That's not realistic or even what I want in life.

So here are some ideas for restaurant eating:

1. I'm usually in need of extra protein so that's what I've been drinking.

[edit] I got to worrying about the extra stuff that gets added to make skim milk taste creamier. Is it safe? Fri, 10 Feb 2012 16:28:28 EST love note to pre-packaged broccoli slaw http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4705431 Dear pre-packaged broccoli slaw,
I'll admit that the first time I saw you, all I could think was "don't need this" and "I can shred my OWN broccoli, thank you very much." But then I gave you chance and I'm so glad I did.

Sure, you can do the traditional slaw, but I like to pretend...you know that. I like to pretend you are noodles and cook you a little bit and add my favorite pasta sauce. You even let me pretend you are rice and let me dump chinese take-out on you. That was ... Thu, 26 Jan 2012 14:56:49 EST Happy MLK day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4684590 There are so many inspiring quotes by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, it was hard to choose one.

“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

This is so true for my journey here at SP. I can't always do things perfectly but as long as I am in here swinging, there is progress. I can't always say exactly the right words to my daughter, and I ca... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 14:18:34 EST I CAN have some great party food - some of my favorites are A-OK http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4643173 Who says party food has to make you feel awful? After two years of losing weight, I just don't enjoy greasy food anymore. It makes me feel bad when I eat it. I've learned to love some healthier fare and I really love how I feel at the end of the day. I don't miss the bloating, diarrhea, and sluggish feeling when the sugar crash comes. (Sorry for the TMI, folks!). So here are my seven favorite party foods:

1. Shrimp with cocktail sauce. They have those cute little tail handles. So e... Thu, 29 Dec 2011 11:30:11 EST One cookie http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4634070 So this is what moderation feels like. It feels good.

Last night I got back from the gym with my daughter (who is home for a visit). She said..."uh oh. Somebody gave Dad some cookies." No problem. After making a nice cup of tea, we settled in and I ate...

how many cookies?

Did I eat every cookie? No. Did I eat most of the cookies? No. Did I run upstairs yelling "get that away from me I can't look at the cookies?" No.

I checked my nutrition plan for ... This might sound strange, but I have been working on self esteem issues. So...I sometimes sing love songs to myself while I am walking/running. This has become one of my favorites so I thought I'd share it.

You are amazing! Yes, you. You are amazing just the way you are.
