MYAKAYAH's SparkPeople Blog MYAKAYAH's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Let's be real The Roosevelts on PBS! I have seen parts 1-4 and 5-7 are coming tonight through Saturday. I am so loving it more than anything. I may have mentioned TR and Lincoln are the reasons I became a Republican. They would not be elected today on their party's ticket, just no way I can see it happening. (Okay I went off on a sidebar there.) I am no longer a registered republicant. Independent is what I registered as, no other way to do it for me. You can watch the series at through 9/28 :)~

I knew/know mo... Thu, 18 Sep 2014 10:14:20 EST Today in football everyone lost except for the Broncos and Patriots it seems like! Its still only week 2 but to start 0-2 (I'm looking at you Saints) is not good at all. I mean the Bears defeated the 49'ers seriously now. Seattle & Denver play next Sunday during an afternoon game so I am going to try and see that one.

I haven't walked for a few days, gotta get back to the grind. I was seriously tired today and that didn't help but I am going to try quite hard and do Monday-Friday so I have my 5 days... Mon, 15 Sep 2014 00:57:59 EST Laundry, football, dinner, this heat do I need to say anymore than what I just typed above? No, okay, see you later lol!

Laundry, did 2 loads today and just finished up. Needed to do a load for me and one for the SO. If he did his own laundry his whites would be grey, his blacks would be almost grey and whites would be pink or grungy, enough said there! SO I completed that chore. Laundry is my most disliked chore so I get in and get out with that one. Git 'er done cowboy!

Football is college today and I do... Sun, 14 Sep 2014 01:50:23 EST I haven't had a lot to say it seems... I did watch some football earlier but the Ravens were manhandling the Steelers, I got bored came over here and there you are...

Today is 9/11 and while I was having breakfast this morning, it was round 4am, I was watching MSNBC and Mayor Giuliani came on and they were talking about 2001. A most horrible day indeed.

Football is really annoying me, defensive players can't really do their jobs anymore its almost pointless. Its a hard, somewhat violent sport, it is what it ... Fri, 12 Sep 2014 00:39:31 EST A few things! Getting ready to take my evening walk in a few minutes so this is a shorty!

My parents went to go look at cars since my dad's Highlander is on its last legs it seems. Looking at another Toyota like a RAV4 perhaps. I'd be surprised if they bought anything but another Toyota. I have seen the 2015 Camry and if I didn't love my BMW I might get too happy enough to buy that. I don't dig car payments at all so it stays where it is. All of our cars are paid for so the only serious payment ... Wed, 10 Sep 2014 22:44:36 EST I watched the movie... The Vow the other night, I wasn't sure who the actor was at first then figured out its Channing Tatum. (Great name btw) I guess I don't get the allure of these younger actors for the most part in a lot of movies these past few years. I saw no chemistry between him and the lady (Rachel McAdams) who played his wife. I prefer stronger males I think it is lol.

These Nicholas Sparks type Lifetime movies just don't cut it for me at all. I guess I have to stick with Denzel, Antonio, Wesl... Mon, 8 Sep 2014 07:42:56 EST Football, Rain and headaches~ Hola mi amigos!

Its been a few days, de nada! First off it rained hard earlier for a long while. It was coming in sideways and there was thunder and lightning. The cat loved it (sarcasm) probably won't make much of a dent in the water shortage but anything helps now.

The pressure changes gave me one heck of a splitting headache so coffee, sleep and a good shower helped abate the worst of it. I'll tell you before I lived here I really never had issues with migraines or h... Mon, 8 Sep 2014 01:34:42 EST Watched the first game football~ The Seahawks defeated The Packers 36-16! Looking forward to Sunday Night with Denver and Indy honestly. Basically Collinsworth and most of the color guys talk way too much during the games, if they cut out half of their comments then I would take them a little more serious. I am not looking forward to Joe Buck when he comes back from baseball. The days of Chick Hearn and Vin Scully like commentary are over I get that but really now less is more!

Joan Rivers passed away today, that ... Fri, 5 Sep 2014 00:34:58 EST Quiet restful day until tonight~ The fire alarm in my room was chirping since the battery needed to be changed! Crisis averted and all is well again!

Today I did a lot more walking but not so much my legs will cry so much. I did a fair amount of stretching, walking with Leslie, walking outdoors, stretching, biking and other assorted activity. I'm on the roll for September.

Earlier went to Sam's and stocked up for the month with food stuffs like bagels, rolls for sandwiches and all of that. Came home and... Tue, 2 Sep 2014 01:46:31 EST Struggling a little bit but perserverance~ Its left over from this last "episode" but I am pushing onward. This last week I had my female issues so there was that as well. I looked over my FitBit numbers for the past few weeks and I feel I need to do better with activity and things will improve for me even more!

I wasn't in the mood to read the paper today but I read the ads, its time for a Target excursion. I think I will go Tuesday since I have holiday continuance tomorrow. I try to avoid stores on holidays since I dislik... Sun, 31 Aug 2014 23:00:27 EST I am thinking Spark Tracker Gone! I don't use it, don't like it, BAD IDEA. Its okay though. Its perfectly functional & has an extra battery but I prefer my FitBit deluxe now!

I've been watching old Robin Williams videos on YouTube lol, funny times. I also watched a few press conferences the Expendables cast did. I never bother with that but I am an action movie junky, always have been since the 80's. I don't watch Vampire movies though, except BLADE. Love that one. Sorry Twilight, Interview with the Vampire not wa... Sat, 30 Aug 2014 02:34:17 EST I am burned out of Pre-Season Football Next Thursday night is the first week beginning :)~ I'm very ready honestly.

Its still quite warm here but cooling down. This weekend is Labour Day Weekend which should prove to be interesting. Baseball season has a few weeks to go before the playoffs start and my Dodgers and Angels may make it to the end and hit the playoffs. I'm not into hockey and basketball so much. I have to watch hockey and soccer in person to feel the excitement and want to watch it.

I'm doing muc... Fri, 29 Aug 2014 02:17:46 EST I like the new Spark Points page its more streamlined and easier to see at a glance. I'm not always resistant to change.

Didn't watch The Emmy's since I'm not much for awards shows so much anymore. You can look at the Emmy Fashions online, don't have to watch the show. Lena Dunham, there are no words sista lol! There were a few ladies who understood fashion. Octavia Spencer, Halle Berry, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Christine Baranski and a few others knocked it out of the park.

Changing up the exercise routin... Tue, 26 Aug 2014 02:30:42 EST Saturday its 95 today! That's like a cooling trend really! It is still pretty warm especially when you turn on the oven since on that side of the house is where the sun sets. Where I sleep in my bedroom office its where the sun rises and it can get pretty warm. September means cooler but still in the 90's-high 80's. October usually means fall by the middle of the month but we never get drastically cold weather which I prefer honestly.

Last night made chicken and a very huge pot of beans and rice for my b... Sat, 23 Aug 2014 17:11:46 EST An eventful day~ Just finished watching the Seahawks beat up on the Bears. Good game and week 3 shows cohesion better than weeks1-2 in the preseason most of the time. The starters play a half usually and the backups and second string are trying to earn their jobs. Looking for the Saints this weekend to see how they fare. I saw the Patriots result and I have no doubt The Patriots are pretty much ready for the season to begin.

Had red beans and rice with chicken for dinner and a salad. I skipped the... Sat, 23 Aug 2014 01:37:00 EST Just read a short article in Good Housekeeping! Mix it up for Max Results~ It was about adding variety to your workouts, it can double your weight loss, even if you don't diet. If your weekly workout includes cardio (steady and intense paced, interval style versions) strength training and yoga, you can lose twice as much weight as people who only do one type of exercise. So combining movement types seems to maximise calorie burn!!!

I'll still eat as healthy as I can thank you very much. I have been holding steady between 128-12... Thu, 21 Aug 2014 17:17:41 EST Its mid morning, feeling better! Working at making positive changes here. Its all you can do and have a lovely attitude. I joined a few teams this morning that may help me. I liked the Spark Teams better when you checked in that day and it noted you had checked in with that team on the main page. I don't mind change too much when its positive but that one was a bit rough since I liked being able to see where I had been at a glance. The articles are throwing me for a bit of a loop so far as well but I'll get on top of that on... Wed, 20 Aug 2014 14:41:09 EST Thanks for the support & comments~ I had a busy day today and I was at the store here, running an errand over there, picking up a library book I had on hold, coming home and putting away groceries and paper goods. I cooked dinner, cleaned up from dinner and sat down to watch The Redskins and Browns. A few days rest from football will be nice I must say. I love football but the preseason can be a bit nutty with games from Thursdays-Mondays. Who can get it all in I don't know. After week 2 it gets better but still game times var... Tue, 19 Aug 2014 00:30:02 EST Thought I'd give it one more...on depression~ I saw this on a website and forgot promptly what site it was! I'll give credit when I recall it. This is so true and this almost says it better than I explained depression the other day.

"I see a lot of comments everywhere, from people who don't understand how unrelenting depression is. I don't think I can do a better job of explaining it than the author of Hyperbole and Half: but I'll try anyway.

It's not something you can power th... Mon, 18 Aug 2014 01:53:00 EST Pink, really now! Robin Williams Yes, I've never done up my page in pink but it was called for since seeing the news about Robin Williams has me in a bit of a tailspin. You see he was one of my favourite people in the world, not just an exceptional actor, humanitarian, comedian and entertainer. I will always remember his appearances on Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show, so frakkin wonderful. He was the only person who could make me laugh down to my soul. He was such a good friend to Christopher Reeve. I've always felt comedian... Tue, 12 Aug 2014 14:14:54 EST A Very Quick One I feel a bit under the weather tonight, my stomach is a bit off but tomorrow is another day, I'm sure I'll feel better. I think it was dinner, pepper gets my system every time!

Watched football, Seattle & Denver and 49'ers & Ravens, love August~ Fri, 8 Aug 2014 02:26:13 EST I took a quiz at results lol~ NOTE-so basically I could live to round 82 years, but make some changes and add 16 years and live to be 98 just about lol~My great grandmother (mother's side) lived into her mid 90's and my dad's parents lived into their 80's. So barring any serious health issues I'm on track here! I wouldn't bother with this unless you take it with a grain of salt (or not) since the quiz basically confines the questions and answers to what you did in the last 7 days! If you are a creature of habit and never ... Mon, 4 Aug 2014 13:40:16 EST A montage of things~ Check this article out, a customer went to Best Buy and had a heck of a time just getting out the door with her merchandise. I would of returned my $700 purchase and they would have lost a customer definitely from that location, inexcusable. At the least the employee should be fired, NOW! Never ignore the customer, ever!

8705/my-receipt-was-not-good-enough

Its raining right now steadily. No thunder and lightning which is nice. ... Mon, 4 Aug 2014 08:31:39 EST Saturday evening, a little down but I'm alright! Well, settling in after a week back was nice! I tried to ease back in without overextending myself. I kept up here as best as I could but other things took priority which makes sense. I'm a bit tired tonight because I slept poorly earlier but I may take a nap in a little while. Last night my mouse was acting funny and I figured out I needed to change the batteries so now its acting correctly again.

My dad came back after being over in California and he was very rude coming in. Bla... Sun, 3 Aug 2014 00:15:36 EST Getting back into the swing of things~ Today was pretty decent & my cat woke me a few times but I wasn't mad at him. Most days he sleeps the day away but he woke me to let him out twice. Tonight it acted like it was going to rain with thunder and lightning but it never rained. Such is life in monsoon season. We had enough rain from the weekend that in the front a few of the plants look droopy so we'll see how it turns out. I did forget the mail yesterday which I rarely do but I'll get it in the morning when I pick up the newspaper... Thu, 31 Jul 2014 04:30:50 EST HI, I'm easing back into life~ Its Monday evening and I have time for a little bit of writing and carrying on! Had a nice dinner earlier and trying to eat healthy and proper, less meat definitely!

Since we've been home the weather has been overcast almost continuously and rainy at points. Rain is a good thing out here in the desert. Its a good thing to have a monsoon season because even in winter we don't accumulate much rain. It was trying to rain earlier but it could never get past the sprinkling stage. It rai... Tue, 29 Jul 2014 02:54:30 EST Yes, I made it home sucessfully~ We came in about 8am to Sin City & picked up the 2 young ones and made it home round 10am. Spent the day dealing with unpacking, taking a nap, dealing with the cat, getting some groceries and all that catch up work to being at home. Paolo said that was a fabulous trip but he's glad to be back home lol. Yes, it does seem like the back end of the trip was more hectic and busy than at the start.

So just a quick update on my brother. His operation was yesterday and he lost his kidney,... Sun, 27 Jul 2014 04:58:58 EST Leaving Lisbon later, coming home! Its going to be an interesting trip home but I'm ready to get back I do believe. Its been a lovely trip abroad full of fun, learning, a birthday and other interesting musings.

I think my favourite place on this trip was Milan and then Madrid. Paris I could leave alone but it was fun for a few days. Lisbon I could use more time in but I like it a lot here as well. Its round 730 Friday morning which means its 1130pm Thursday in Sin City. My brother is having his operation sometime Fr... Fri, 25 Jul 2014 03:09:15 EST So its about 1pm in Madrid right now and it means its 4am where I live! I'm pretty good with keeping up with World Times on this holiday so far! I just had lunch because breakfast was at 730am with Paolo. He's free until next Tuesday for work now which is nice. He's mostly had a holiday but at some points on this journey there has been work for him which didn't bother him all that much.

Its been a nice birthday so far. (Technically I can avoid my birthday until round 630pm Pacific Standard Time because that was when I... Tue, 22 Jul 2014 07:49:19 EST Borrowed from another blog, felt like a Q&A & trip notes! What is your go to chewing gum flavour? I don't chew gum!

For you, what is the best time of the year? Summer is the best time for me. However, fall is great as well!

What color toe nail polish are you wearing? I don't wear nail or toenail polish!

What is your favorite pie? I don't like pie!

What was the 1st record you ever bought? The first cassette I bought was Duran Duran I do believe!

What current perfume do you use? I use Body Spray... Thu, 17 Jul 2014 22:00:20 EST A blog entry, yes! Milan has been a blast of wonderful. We will be in France Wednesday evening so I figured I would get in a blog entry now.

Paolo feels he has gained 5 pounds from the Aunt's great cooking. She has been stunning with the meals. We've only gone out twice for meals. Once was to get away from the family for a few hours and buy Paolo's new suits. The man and his suits, he loves to look good. I love to look at him in his suits, like I said before win-win all round. Yes, it looks like from... Mon, 14 Jul 2014 02:06:02 EST Ciao, como stai? I said Hi, how are you in Italian. Its what I have been hearing for 2 days now frequently. Paolo says his family speaks crazy Italian so just go with the flow! I figured its the same with my strange hybrid English/Spanish/Russian/Portuguese so its fine. Its round 7pm Tuesday evening and I haven't suffered jet lag which is quite lovely. I really have only suffered the lag when I flew from Seattle to Asia since that was basically a 24 hour flight.

We had a fairly decent flight to New... Tue, 8 Jul 2014 15:10:55 EST I'm waiting for a while to go to bed~ It is because I want to sleep most of the flight to NYC away honestly. If I get 5 hours in in a little while then that can occur. If I get 2-3 hours on the flight then I will do well. We are staying near JFK so we can jump over quickly for our flight. We leave at 7am Monday morning so we want to be there by 430am since its an international flight. Paolo knows about flying overseas more than I do so 430 is fine. Fine by me I'm not stressing out over that one and I'll do some walking in the ter... Sun, 6 Jul 2014 05:03:11 EST Hope you had a Happy 4th~ I was fine watching my movies and I DVR'd one from the TV to watch later on. It was blazing hot but overcast and it actually rained late. Actual rain not mist or pretend rain. It is the monsoon season though so it makes sense. Its overcast again today but no rain and it is blazing hot. I had to look up the trash and recycle schedule online last night and they came today so I am glad I looked things up otherwise holding 2 more weeks of recycle would suck because of the small garage we have. <... Sat, 5 Jul 2014 19:23:17 EST Its still hotter than you know where~ 107 today and sunny! A little easier to breathe but its better to be indoors. Its monsoon season but nothing viable yet in terms of precipitation. Yes, tomorrow is the 4th and it should be round 107 but I'm not dealing with the heat or possibly dealing with a sunburn.

I'm going to watch "Original Sin" and a few other Antonio movies tomorrow and Paolo wants to see his girl Angelina Jolie lol. He digs her lips and she is pretty in that movie. I would dig wearing those types of fashio... Fri, 4 Jul 2014 02:27:22 EST The temperatures this week are insane 105-112 degrees, morning walking is in full effect! Like I said before anything above 105 degrees means no outdoor walking as to avoid heat stroke this summer!

Yes, its been busy hence the few blog entries these past few weeks and I've been occupied with other tasks so we can leave next week with no worries.

I have not been paying attention to football (soccer) but I hear the USA is still in it. Its July almost so that means camp for NFL football. Preseason is August a... Mon, 30 Jun 2014 00:36:32 EST Vacation plans~ So we are leaving July 6th and coming back on the 26th! Italy, France, Spain and Portugal are the itinerary. Basically I will be in Spain on my birthday, Kool Times. Paolo says it will be a birthday to remember. He said this with a mercenary glint to his eyes so I'll brace myself for the surprise. I don't care to be surprised honestly but I'll be a good sport about it. So it will be nice to have an extended break from everyday life, but that is what going on holiday entails.

The ki... Fri, 27 Jun 2014 01:44:51 EST Hi all~ I'm feeling much better now thankfully. That was tough to get through for a week~

It looks like the revised temps for the week are closer to 100-102 degrees which doesn't seem like that much but there is quite the difference between 107 and 100, especially with a breeze!

I reset my articles and the calories in my account preferences so there is that for now. I was getting tired of trying to eat too much for my activity level lol. I wasn't really but honestly my weight i... Tue, 24 Jun 2014 02:17:57 EST So update! Happy Summer time~ This morning the brother called up and said the 25th of July is when the surgery is scheduled for. We'll be back on the 26th so we'll be in range if anything goes wonky. No complications are expected but life being an uncertain thing....

I'm still a cranky thing but its getting better. I've felt funky all week but 2-3 times a year the PMS is pretty intense so I just have to maintain until it stops for me. I did exercise today but its getting even warmer now so I am switching the wa... Sat, 21 Jun 2014 02:56:06 EST I know I've been a bit silent, moody. aloof... I'm an old cranky pants this week, you know why lol. I swear I'm almost looking forward to menopause. Its more emotional than physical this time so I'm hiding for a few days I'm just too moody and aloof.

Anyhow, I didn't realise a few weeks before a trip I would be uber busy with the mundane but better to deal with things now so I'm not playing tear my hair out a few days before the trip comes round.

I'm eating on the lower end of my calorie range because I feel nasty b... Fri, 20 Jun 2014 02:35:05 EST Windy Monday Its quite windy here (of course it is) my allergies came up a bit so no walking outdoors tonight its just too dusty!

Been doing fine with the liquids, food and sodium reduction! Sleep and exercise are suffering slightly but its to be expected in a sense when you have insomnia creep in sometimes. I'm a permanent member of the sleep challenged club it seems. I go along for a good spell and then I get a few insomnia days sprinkled in.

Smokey tries to go out but the hard win... Tue, 17 Jun 2014 00:15:01 EST I'm just not chatty lately! What's up with that, I don't know! Its been very warm this week here as you know so maybe it has something to do with it ha?

Exercise, food, water, sleep, lower stress, being kind to myself is all good. I've been writing a lot so maybe that is why I am less chatty. That's usually the culprit when I feel less chatty. I had red beans and brown rice for dinner, pretty good!

I haven't been walking as much but I have been working the exercise videos because I'm trying to buil... Sat, 14 Jun 2014 02:56:36 EST Wednesday~ Hello and I just came back in from my walk. It was a nice breeze and round 100 today, which is a lot nicer than 107-108 which is was a few days back. So Thursday is hair day and every 4 weeks is too much. I am going to switch it to every 6 weeks starting in August when I get back home.

I'm having pineapple and tea right now to cool off some and then I'll clean up. I didn't mean to make such a short entry last night but the Spark People were doing maintenance so I didn't bother fin... Thu, 12 Jun 2014 00:52:13 EST Happy Tuesday It was 105 today, a good breeze though. I'm so busy lately with work!

I did well with water, food, stress reduction, sleep and walking!

Off I go to work~ Wed, 11 Jun 2014 02:58:13 EST It was another scorcher today, way too much fun~ So it was about that 107 I was saying it would be, thank goodness for the breeze outside otherwise I would have been tired a lot faster than I was. Yesterday I had a rest day since there was no breeze and I wasn't doing a walk in that crazy. Tonight I made over 11,000. I wanted to do better but in this heat that will have to do lol.

I did a Leslie Sansone video, yoga and stretching today so that was good. I'll do ST (strength training) tomorrow since I switched to T/Th/Sat for that... Tue, 10 Jun 2014 02:34:25 EST Sunday, not walking outside tonight, just no! Its blazing out there with no breeze so I'm not doing it. I will do a Leslie Sansone video in a while and do a mile on the treadmill. It'll be an easy day for me in terms of the exercise. I've had tons of liquid already and I just finished the dishes from dinner and doing some sweeping and taking out the trash. I let the cat out twice already and I just don't know how he can hack the heat even when he is in the shade. He is shedding right now though big time so I am brushing and getting as mu... Sun, 8 Jun 2014 23:07:03 EST Saturday night I did my exercise, slept well, ate pretty well, drank a lot of liquids because its danged hot here.

Still need 1200 steps to get to 70,000 but I'll hop the treadmill in a few minutes and reach the goal steps lol. I only took Tuesday as a rest day this last week so I got in 6 days of exercise and I feel good about that. In this heat it may be better to do an hour walk every day and do other forms of exercise to supplement and I'll still get to 70K.

Its going to be hotter... Sun, 8 Jun 2014 01:38:34 EST Its Friday evening & I just... finished eating after coming in from my exercise. May I just thank the wind & breeze for blowing tonight. Last night was more than rough without one!

Here's one for the "I don't think so" pile I was listening to Ozzy Osbourne "Crazy Train" and I clicked over to the Osborne's cd on Spotify and Pat Boone was singing a lounge version of "Crazy Train" it was so wrong lol!

So I need to get in just over 11,000 steps tomorrow to make 70K for this week! No worries there. Tomorr... Sat, 7 Jun 2014 02:13:29 EST You have to write an entry on the best day... of the week, of course, it only makes sense!

I had a pretty good day even though it was blazing hot like hell, no joke! I wanted to walk this morning but I had no energy for it. I finished work and did a little housework and I went to bed. At 130pm the cat woke me so he could go out for a while. So I stayed up and watched Monte Carlo with Selena Gomez which was not so bad but that's desperation TV right there!

I couldn't eat much today for it being as hot & humid as it w... Fri, 6 Jun 2014 02:39:57 EST Just a quick note! I'm swamped with work tonight so not much time to chat!

My parents are going to drive over to Los Angeles in the early evening tomorrow with my brother for his consultation with the Doctors at USC on Thursday. I think all possible questions have been written down. I'm keeping it positive in terms of thoughts until we know different.

It was a scorcher today and my leg was bothering me so I gave it a rest from my power walking but I did exercise and the leg is fine. It ju... Wed, 4 Jun 2014 02:27:17 EST
