MUGSYMOM's SparkPeople Blog MUGSYMOM's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community WW Week #2 Yippee...another 2 pounds lost! I really like tracking my food now and am holding myself accountable for every bite I put in my mouth!

Have a great week! Thu, 28 Feb 2013 16:14:26 EST WW Week One is History After looking at the scale last month and realizing that I have gained what I had worked so hard to lose - I succumbed to the last resort to lose weight. I joined Weight Watchers. WW had helped my mom and sister lose weight in the past but I always said NO to joining. I always convinced myself that I knew how to eat and didn't need to go weekly to hear some women talk about their "Success Stories" and get weighed in. Well, I joined last week and in one week on WW I lost 4 whopping pounds!... Fri, 22 Feb 2013 09:04:45 EST Letting go...or not Okay, I could really use some advice here. My son is 18 and in his senior year of high school. He is a great kid, a kind soul, a good heart, you get my drift. For the past 2 years he has really started to get engrossed in history and world cultures. He just recently got accepted to Penn State University and will be majoring in Secondary Education - yes, he wants to teach History to high schoolers (God bless his heart!) He is especially fond of Eastern Asian cultures and is fascinated by ... Thu, 24 Jan 2013 14:59:58 EST A Rude Awakening...(to say the least!) Holy smokes! 40

Granted - ever since September my fitness routine has been on the "back burner." I know there should never be excuses but the last few months have been extremely hectic with my mother in the hospital from September up until this past weekend. Also, it was recruitment season at work and I was very stressed out and extremely busy with that. Needless to say, exercise diminished and the pounds packed on! And I mean PACKED ON! 15

F... Ever since my mom's hospital admission back in early September I have been "missing in action" from Spark People...or should I say "missing FROM action!?" Although I have been attentive to my mom and her recovery, I have neglected the one person I have control over...ME! Today is the day I am getting back to the gym and my usual weekday and weekend workouts. Wish me luck! I thank all of my wonderful Spark Friends who have continued to check in on me and of... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 10:51:17 EST My of today It's funny...being a parent one would think that we are our chidren's inspiration, but in my case my son is my inspiration. My "little boy" turns 18 next week and I have watched him blossom into a wonderful young man. Don't get me wrong - he's still that typical teenager who needs reminded to take out the trash cans each week and then needs reminded again to bring them in the following day!

I was blessed on one very hot and humid day back in July 1994 with this big - almost 10 ... Wed, 27 Jun 2012 11:04:35 EST Pump House Run 5K...Conquered! Well, my fingers were crossed that the rain would hold off until yesterday's 5K was over, but I wasn't so lucky. The race began at 9 AM and there was a fine mist around 8:30 or so and then 10 minutes before the race the rain came pouring down! 27 . This was my 3rd 5K race and the second time I challenged myself to the PHR 5K. This race is not for sissies, let me tell ya. Well it took 44 minutes 2 years ago and I am hoping this year's time will be least 5 minutes or so off. I am a bit nervous about it but I am in better shape than 2 years ago and I feel that I can do this! I will keep you posted...Saturday, April 21st 8:30 AM is the date and time... 244</e... Sat, 14 Apr 2012 20:59:05 EST Lord, Grant Me Patience, Please... Today is one of those much morning traffic! And it doesn't matter what time I leave my house! Usually things don't get to me...I take pride on being a fairly low-tempered individual but the recent road construction and traffic delays are getting the best of me. I don't like starting my workday in a foul mood - that just isn't me! I am such a positive person and this negativity is not good. I just ask the good Lord to give me the tolerance and patience I so desperately need. I ... Tue, 4 Oct 2011 09:26:04 EST Shoe Recommendations Needed! Well, I have been doing so well over the last month since joining the new LA Fitness nearby. I love the variety of equipment as well as the many different classes offered. Bad thing is - MY FEET ARE IN BAD SHAPE!! I typically wear Asics Gels running shoes - since my primary cardio in the past was jogging/running. Now that I do Zumba, Hip Hop, Cardio Kickboxing, etc. I need a more sturdy type shoe...maybe a crosstrainer?? Please I could really use some recommendations on a new shoe! <em... Sun, 2 Oct 2011 20:49:48 EST Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day? Ten years have past by so quickly and the vivid pictures in my head of 9/11/01 still are as vivid as ever. Ask me what I did last Tuesday and I would have to think about...not 9/11/01. I remember that gorgeous beautiful morning sipping my coffee watching the Today Show. I was happy because I had the day off work and I had so many things I wanted to do around the house...fall cleaning. The kids were back in elementary schoo... Sat, 10 Sep 2011 14:35:03 EST Am I the Only One Who Sweats??? Just a short blog today - I just finished my Zumba class at the gym I just joined and it was a fantastic workout!! My question of the day is.....after spending one full hour doing a high impact workout why is my hair the only wet head in the gym!??! I feel great but I wonder why I am the only one out of a class of about 50 women that is completely drenched?

I also wonder why some women feel the need to put on a full face full of makeup to go to the gym and work out. It really baf... Sat, 10 Sep 2011 14:23:43 EST Finally Joined LA Fitness....Now What? Well I finally took the plunge and joined the new LA Fitness club near my house. I have always wanted to join a gym but none offered classes, cardio, weights, pool, etc. but this one does! Now I am faced with what to do when. Do I stick with cardio on certain days and then weight train on others? Or do I mix it up? They have a spinning class...anyone have any thoughts on that? Never did it but it looks intense and interesting! I can't wait for the Pilates and Yoga classes!

... Tue, 6 Sep 2011 21:28:28 EST Someone finally noticed! Since the end of April I have been on a new eating and activity program. After months/years of not getting anywhere with the scale moving downward, I decided to see a physician who specializes in nutrition and weight management. I gave in. I told myself that I can do it on my own, but I gave in...went to see the doc. He is a wonderful man who made me feel good about myself but also recognize where I needed help. At my heaviest weight - 216 pounds - I needed to do something! We meet mont... Wed, 29 Jun 2011 10:23:55 EST My Male Puppy Has a Female Part! I was so blessed to get Barnaby in November. He is now a 7 month old rambunctious little miniature schnauzer. I love him to bits!! He recently had a visit to the vet to get neutered and have a few stubborn baby teeth pulled. Well to our amazement the vet called us and explained that Barnaby is a pseudo-hermaphrodite...which means our little boy has a UTERUS! Has anyone heard of this before in dogs!? I've watched TV shows about this condition in humans but never considered it in animals.... Fri, 29 Apr 2011 13:46:59 EST Fear the Stink Bug!!

Over the past couple of years the news media has done numerous stories about the dreaded stink bug and how its prevalence is so much more noticeable now. I can tell you that we have noticed a lot more stink bugs each and every year here in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the fall we had a huge number of them on our screens - wanting to come inside for warmth for the winter. All winter long we have seen the occasional stin... Fri, 27 Aug 2010 09:41:27 EST *~My Memorial Garden~* Well I finally began the memorial garden for my dear Judy Rose and Beauregard who went to be with their maker this year. Although it's not quite finished or "in bloom" it is slowly coming along. I planted pink and white coneflower, ornamental grass, and various other perennials. Sat, 31 Jul 2010 11:25:59 EST Learning to Love My Big Legs! Well, I just came back from a great 5 mile walk/jog and feel terrific! The park was crowded and I was so envious of the beautiful bodies I saw running past me. I have always wanted that lean runner's type body but never quit got it. Even thinking back to junior high - I was very thin but not toned. In high school I did a LOT of dancing and marching in the high school band and the muscles and hormones kicked in. I became curvy but not heavy. But my legs were so darn big and muscular and ... He is now close to totally blind and deaf and has been having multiple seizures. He has a horrible time relieving himself outside and walks around aimlessly. Wed, 2 Jun 2010 22:09:32 EST How does my garden grow?? It is the end of April and I have been bitten by the "Gardening Bug!" I love to spend time in my yard and this year I have dedicated an area in the memory of my beloved pooch - my little lady, Judy Rose, who passed away on my birthday this year - March 17th. She was my faithful companion who spent a lot of time with me in the yard. So, I have cleared out an area in my yard for Judy's Garden. She was diagnosed with SARDS over the summer - it's a rapid vision loss syndrome. Since she went blind her "gusto" has diminished. She gets around fine - only at a slow slow pace. There's not a whole lot the vet can do...just wait it's course...nothing surgical to be done. She is my little lovey and I have noticed... Fri, 12 Mar 2010 09:13:18 EST Why be so negative....all the time???

I've noticed recently that there is a lot of negativity in our world. I mean we all get a tad negative here and there but there are some people who THRIVE on being negative. Yes, last week a young 21 y/o girl had a little too much to drink and drove straight into my yard. She ended up taking out 3 bushes and a gas lamp post. And to boot....she was driving a rental car....she wrecked her car 3 days prior to this incident. Such stupidity. Sat, 11 Jul 2009 13:38:54 EST My Heart Breaks for JudyRose Well, here's the update on my little lady.
