MS_PERCEPTION's SparkPeople Blog MS_PERCEPTION's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Snow Much Fun to be in NW Wisconsin!! LOL…I couldn't help myself. I've spent hours shoving the last couple days due to our first snow of the season deciding to be a downfall of over a foot! My back is not in love with me right now but the driveway is done! Hallelujah!
On the upside, the last 2 days have been snow days for the kids due to road conditions and snow, so we've had tons of fun (and not so fun while shoveling) family time!

My wonderful son is now getting around without his crutches which is mind boggl... Tue, 11 Nov 2014 12:04:01 EST A Broken Leg and More Well, I have little time so I'll type fast and tell what I can…

My son broke his tibia and fibula (both bones of the lower leg) at football practice almost 2 weeks ago and for the first week, it took over our lives. We spent the first few days in the hospital with him and then the the first few days at home were time consuming since he was unable to do much on his own. Now he's come a tremendous way toward resuming normal daily life, though still not using his leg much at all. O... Tue, 21 Oct 2014 09:34:20 EST Keeping Busy Adoption: There is literally NOTHING to tell on this front. We continue to submit our home study and have not heard back from any submissions recently.

Kids: My kids are often on the go. The oldest is still in football and, while I enjoy watching him play, he's not a starter, so it's not as fun to watch him ride the bench. Thankfully he disclosed to DH and I that he plans to switch back to cross country next fall. Otherwise, he's made a really decent transition back to public... Tue, 30 Sep 2014 14:39:41 EST Latest Adventures Well, some of you already know, but I decided to become an Independent Thirty-One Consultant. I'm pretty excited about it because I get to let people know about Thirty-One products who've never heard of it before and the more I get to share, the more I get to earn. It's a win-win!

I'm actually pretty new to the products, but I already love what I have and can't wait to earn more. They make it incredibly appealing to be a hostess or consultant, that's for sure! I'm having an o... Mon, 25 Aug 2014 23:52:28 EST Wish I Had Less to Tell I'm going to keep this relatively brief but want to vent and update a bit…

We were all ready to head to church this past Sunday. My DH goes out to the van and it's dead. Nothing, not even a click. We tried not to stress about it, pushed it out of the way and loaded into our other vehicle and went to church. We were supposed to take the van on our little camping trip this week but when we got home from church and tried to jump the van, it was DEAD. Long story short, we unpacked... Thu, 14 Aug 2014 11:38:59 EST We Shall See... We had our child presentation meeting for the 2 boys we're being considered for as adoptive parents and it went well. No word yet on whether it's gonna happen. The boys have a fair amount of needs and we want to make sure we are the right fit for them. We are feeling good about it but want to see how the boys feel about it and what their team thinks.

The meeting wasn't the smoothest thing in the world…first off the team coming on behalf of the boys had 6 PEOPLE come (not includi... Fri, 8 Aug 2014 09:27:18 EST Proud Mama of 2 Drama Queens My beautiful daughters were in a play at school this past weekend with a company that comes in and helps schools put together summer plays. My girls did an EXCELLENT job and made me laugh and enjoy the show. I couldn't be prouder of their talent! Now if we could keep their drama limited to the stage, I'd be in great shape! LOL

Sat, 19 Jul 2014 20:39:44 EST Looking Forward to... ..making progress.

I have gotten my food more under control most days but it is still not what it should be. I'm more maintaining than anything. That'd be great if that was my aim, but it's not. I'll keep plugging away and baby stepping back to more exercise and better food choices.

Also, we finally got the meeting scheduled for the Child Presentation for the 2 siblings we're being considered for. It's several weeks out still but at least we finally got a date on the... Thu, 10 Jul 2014 22:00:27 EST Impatient That's me. Mayor of Impatientville.

I've been battling a mild cough and lost voice for 2 1/2 weeks with no improvement in sight. Of course, I haven't exactly been resting and trying to recuperate like I know I should. I'm Soooooo done with this. It's now just wearing me down. I don't really feel sick so it's more annoying than anything, but my throat is actually starting to hurt from the strain of talking in a whisper and trying to be hearable. Oh sure, I could try not talk... Tue, 8 Jul 2014 17:18:52 EST Taking it All in Stride So long story short, we did NOT get placement of the little guy we met about last week. It turns out they went with the other family who has no kids in the home and they felt it would be better for the little guy to get all the attention for a while.

We were disappointed but not too much so since we're ultimately confident God has this all in hand. When our worker called with the news, she also had some potentially good news. The set of 2 boys we had been interested in previou... Mon, 30 Jun 2014 15:02:42 EST Presentation Meeting Today was the meeting between us, our worker and the child's worker. It went well. We got additional information, asked our questions and they said they'll let us know which family they're going to go with by Monday afternoon.

DH and I decided we would accept the placement if they choose us. The child's "stuff" is stuff we feel we can deal with within our home. So now we wait. Only a few more days, though. I'll definitely keep everyone posted. Thu, 26 Jun 2014 22:31:11 EST Never Simple So this is a quick update to my most recent update…

Turns out there is one other family also meeting with the child's worker for the individual child. We suspected that, but now have it confirmed from our worker. Regardless, our worker has cautioned us to not submit our home study for any other children until we see how this one plays out. She also recommended we not set up the meeting with the other childrens' worker until this first meeting has taken place also.

Thi... Wed, 11 Jun 2014 09:06:45 EST When it Rains, it Pours Just a quick, but exciting update…

Our worker informed us today through a few different messages that we are being seriously considered for 2 different children/siblings. One is a boy who's from our same region of the state and one is a sibling group of 2 boys who live in the southern part of the state. We set up our meeting with the worker for the single boy first (since she contacted our worker first) and then we'll go forward from there.

This is pretty huge since ... Mon, 9 Jun 2014 17:32:47 EST Take Me Out to the Ballgame! My sweet hubby took DS and I to a MLB game last night. Our team, the Milwaukee Brewers were playing at the MN Twins and since we live MUCH closer to the Twins ball field, we didn't have to make it into an overnight trip or anything. Here are my DS and DH after the game. Still smiling despite the Brewer loss.

I'm so blessed to have these 2 handsome men in my life! We had a really good time and as we drove in... Thu, 5 Jun 2014 09:44:08 EST Almost (Unofficially) Summer! First a quick update: The Ladies' Night went very well. 4 other leaders and myself were there and had great food and conversation, lots of laughs and some serious time to know each other better. I was blessed. No new news in the adoption realm. Same stuff and all is well. My weight has stabilized and while I'm up from where I was, I am feeling much less stress and ready to focus more attention on food planning and other healthy habits after this weekend. Now...

I love spring... Thu, 22 May 2014 09:44:35 EST Lady Leaders Night Tonight I'm hosting a Ladies Night for the female Youth Group Small Group Leaders from church. It's a dessert and fellowship time. I'm excited because I've never done anything like this before and think it will be fun and a good way to get to know the ladies better.

I'm pulling out the good china and crystal too! I hope it's a blessing to the women who diligently serve the sometimes challenging teens in our church and community with such grace and perseverance.

I am... Fri, 16 May 2014 09:07:05 EST Trying to Keep it Together Man, you know that feeling like you can't keep up or that you don't have enough hours in your day to get everything done you want or need to?

That's all me right now!

I have been totally failing at keeping my food under control. I have NO desire to exercise (though I'm still doing it most days). If I get one area of my house clean, the rest looks like a mess. I'm tired and usually sore. I'm sick of my job and my boss being so high strung. BLAH!

Just had ... Wed, 14 May 2014 14:42:00 EST The Results Are In The MA tournament yesterday went alright. Both DS and I got two 2nd place finishes and had a good time. It was an interesting combination of women I faced for both competitions. There were 2 other ladies doing forms…both yellow/gold belts but very good with their forms, so I was fine with my 2nd place finish there.
With sparring, there were 3 brown belts and 1 lady who was actually in the 20-29 age group who was a blue belt but she sparred with us since she was the only one in her ... Mon, 28 Apr 2014 10:30:31 EST My First Tournament (in a LONG time) I'm kinda excited. Tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon is a karate tournament that DS and I are participating in. I have to say, doing this as a 37 year old woman has a bit of an intimidation factor for me. Thankfully, that doesn't scare me away from it, but I see as something to conquer. Maybe I'm not that young anymore and I have more aches and bruises preparing for this tournament than younger people might, but I'm proud of myself for taking on the challenge.

My son and I are both c... Sat, 26 Apr 2014 19:42:11 EST All in His Hands Okay, well I have an update on our possible adoption match sooner than expected. Apparently, all our prayer warrior friends did their job. God answered and we are thankful.

I got a message from our social worker today that we are no longer being considered for placement for the kids I'd mentioned earlier this week. Our worker, Stephanie, wanted to know if we wanted her to follow up with it and see how things go at the matching meeting next week and we confidently told her it's... Thu, 24 Apr 2014 13:44:58 EST Finally…a Response Yesterday we got some cool news. We're being considered as a possible match for some kids for adoption. They sent us additional info and wanted to know if we we're still interested. We are, but have some questions/reservations since the kids have been through a lot (all the kids in foster care have, though). The matching meeting is the beginning of May, so we'll find out after that if we were chosen for the kids. That's when we can ask all of our questions and decide if we want to proceed... Tue, 22 Apr 2014 13:20:32 EST Not Much to Tell - Adoption Update I've had a couple friends ask, so here's a quick update on the adoption stuff.

We've submitted our home study 13 times in the past couple months. Nothing has come as a result yet. We've found out that a few of them now have pending placements which makes me very happy that those kids have prospective homes. With some kids, we ended up finding out that they were likely not a good fit for our family due to their extensive needs. So, we just keep looking and trusting that in God's... Mon, 31 Mar 2014 14:48:28 EST Paying for Gymnastics Okay, so, my daughters were both in gymnastics for a while. Then my older daughter decided it wasn't going to be her thing, but my younger daughter stuck with it. That was over a year ago. In the meantime my youngest has made some real progress with her skills and all. At the beginning of this year, she was invited to join pre-team. As the name implies, it's the level before they are invited to join the competition team.
Pre-team is a little more expensive than all the levels pri... Sat, 22 Mar 2014 00:05:20 EST Scrapbook Weekend Highlights Over the weekend, I went to another scrapbooking retreat. It was wonderful even though I didn't really know anyone there very well. There were a couple gals I know a bit from other retreats, so I visited some with them throughout the weekend. I got some good pages done and was able to get more photos organized as well, but my one of my highlights came when I WASN'T scrapbooking.

I had signed up for a 15 minute massage from a lady who comes and does them throughout the day on Sat... Mon, 17 Mar 2014 13:25:04 EST Cold...Go AWAY!!! Thought this was a funny title because it means 2 different things to me, both of which I mean WHOLE-heartedly!

First I have this annoying cold that is so weird. I don't think I've ever sneezed this much with a cold before. It's crazy. My poor son that I homeschool has pretty much grown tired of the "bless you"s since they been so over used. I've tried a couple OTC medicines but have come to the conclusion that this will just have to play out. That's just as well. I'm not a f... Thu, 6 Mar 2014 11:47:31 EST Patience The Bible study I'm hosting in my home this winter is one focused on the fruit of the Spirit. In other words, what our lives look like when we allow God's Holy Spirit to rule in our lives.
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22
This week were looking at patience; the difference between patience with people and patience with circumstances.

... Tue, 4 Mar 2014 14:59:37 EST Learning and Preparing Today I was blessed to have a great sit down chat with my friend from church. She's kind of my adoption resource since she and her husband adopted a sibling group from foster care 10 years ago and they are raising those kids and dealing with the challenges that come with children with a trauma background.
She's such a precious and HONEST woman who has spoken really frankly with me about what the future holds being an adoptive parent. She's shared with me great wisdom that she's gained ... Sun, 23 Feb 2014 16:09:29 EST Another Update Just another quick update on the adoption stuff...

While on vacation, we got an e-mail from our social worker that she's taken a new position in the agency so she will not be dealing directly with families anymore. We've been assigned a new social worker. We were bummed since we really liked our worker, but we're praying this new one is as good or better (hard to imagine). I think Jason and I met her once before at a training and she seemed fine (if we're even thinking of the ri... Thu, 13 Feb 2014 13:45:51 EST New Trophy Just had to take a moment and point out that I'm FINALLY at a new trophy. I hated the trophy at the previous level, so I'm happy to see a pretty new one on my page!

It's the simple things that bring me joy! LOL Wed, 12 Feb 2014 22:20:09 EST Most Successful (improved) Vacation Award goes to... me on our trip to Mexico!!! Yay!!!

While I was trying to set my standards high for the trip and may have fallen a bit short, I can still say proudly that I went on a 6 day cruise plus travel to and from New Orleans by car and only gained about 2 pounds. For me, that is simply remarkable.
First of all, I never ate to the point of feeling stuffed. That is a BIG deal with all the food constantly available.
Secondly, I ate very thoughtfully for the first half of the trip... Tue, 11 Feb 2014 17:17:58 EST We're Approved!! I don't have a lot of time for a lengthy blog here but I just got word this afternoon from our social worker that our Home Study was approved today! PRAISE GOD!
334 244

She's going to be getting us more info about how to respond to any profiles we're interested in when they come through, but now we'll actually GET info about kids who are coming into the system. It's SO exciting even though nothing actually happens yet. LOL Fri, 24 Jan 2014 18:43:10 EST I Meant to Blog More Often I had some cool stuff to share, but just forgot or didn't have sufficient time to blog about it, but I've got time now...

On Thursday of last week, I tested for and earned my green belt in Bushido (the style of martial arts I do). I felt good about how I did and hope to work it into my schedule to go to the dojo twice a week instead of just once now. It'll start taking longer to earn belts, so I could use the extra practice, plus it's good, fun exercise!

Also, I measur... Wed, 22 Jan 2014 15:25:01 EST Success One Day at a Time It's funny how each day I approach it as if it was the only day. I do my workout and eat each meal to end up with the desired macro nutrient ratios within my target calorie range. Once I make it through the day with all those goals met, I feel an incredible sense of satisfaction. And then every few days, I look back and realize (like today)..."hey, I just made it 12 days on plan!"

What do I have to show for it? Good habits developing, FAR fewer sugar cravings, 6 lbs gone, and... Mon, 13 Jan 2014 22:57:29 EST Winter Family Camp So, I'm still rocking my streak of Staying in my Calorie Range! It's day 8 and I'm going strong with food and exercise.

This weekend is our church's Winter Family Camp and we're all looking forward to it. The camp is about 2.5 hours away. We go and there are all kinds of indoor and outdoor activities in addition to the time to spend with some of our good friends from church. There are like 10 families going and many of them are good friends of ours and they're all people we k... Thu, 9 Jan 2014 18:50:26 EST Moving Forward Yesterday we got an exciting e-mail. Our social worker FINALLY e-mailed us our home study to review so she can get our corrections and then submit it to her supervisor for approval. We made the corrections and sent it back to her today.

Sure, we thought we'd be done with all this by now, but there were delays due to the holidays and our social worker's family being ill for an extended period. So, we waited as patiently as possible to get this "rough" draft so we could move one ... Wed, 8 Jan 2014 14:16:17 EST My New Enemy - The Polar Vortex I am never overly fond of cold weather. I frequently comment that I was not bred for Wisconsin. I deal with it admirably but much prefer the other 3 seasons to winter, summer being my favorite, of course. I have already firmly stated to my husband that we need to find a warm place to spend winters once he retires.

This crazy Polar Vortex going through the upper Midwest right now is just putting an exclamation point on my dislike of cold. Not only do I not want to be outside, n... Mon, 6 Jan 2014 16:21:57 EST Sore Again So, I'm 3 days in to my streak of eating within my calorie range. Yay!

Another moment of victory is this evening after a full day of errands, a birthday party (including bowling) and hanging out with friends I got up from my relaxing on the couch watching the NFL playoffs and my feet and legs were a little sore.
Maybe this seems insignificant to some, but I've gone a bit too long without the "good" pain of a healthy and consistent exercise routine. It kinda made me smile t... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 20:49:27 EST Streaking - in a G Rated Way The streak I'm going to try for is to see how many days I can stay within my calorie range.

Today was Day #1

My longest streak of this was last January when I got to 21 days, I believe. Then I sorta went nuts for the Super Bowl. This year I'm hoping to reach 28 days and then NOT go too overboard once I do eventually decide to have a higher calorie day. Thu, 2 Jan 2014 21:20:55 EST Goals and Plans "The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray."

So, I have some things in mind I'd like to see for myself in 2014. I wouldn't call them resolutions as much as lifestyle updates. I know it's easy to dream big but I've put an action plan in place to see that I start to develop these things into habits.

-I will start each day in the WORD of God.

-I will start eating like I care about fueling my body for great things, cutting WAY back on sugar and process... Time got away from me and that's all there is to it.

I did drop my gym membership and have been working out from home. I miss the gym some, but overall I'm very happy with my decision...less guilt. I might sign up for the gym's BL program that they run from time to time as a non-member, but it simply does NOT fit into our schedule right now.

I have made time to do DVDs at home 3-4 days a week and am putting together a workout pl... Thu, 19 Dec 2013 11:58:27 EST Gym Membership vs. Home Workouts This month is the last one of my 1-yr. gym membership. At first, when I got my membership life was very different. I was working part-time and needed an outlet. The gym is fantastic. I loved the classes I went to and it gave me additional motivation to get there and get my exercise in. I was even getting up for the early class so I could go before work. I was going at least 12 times per month, so we were getting our health insurance reimbursement which made it very affordable.
<BR... Wed, 9 Oct 2013 10:16:39 EST Surprisingly Productive Day I stayed up late last night ('til about 12:30 a.m.) finishing a good book, but I was a bit concerned it would cause me to be dragging today. I'm thrilled to say that was not the case.

My prayer partner came over and we prayed for awhile while DS rested...he's fighting off a cold. After that, DS and I were able to get his schooling done as well as my (job) work. I also got some bits done around the house and got our supper in the crockpot.

Then in the afternoon, I wa... Mon, 7 Oct 2013 21:13:47 EST Catching Up... Met with Stacy yesterday. It went really well and she said we basically have 2 meetings remaining. One to get fingerprinted and then the one to actually get licensed (the final meeting). I can't believe how smoothly this has all gone. I try to remind myself:
#1 God has been guiding us and we have peace
#2 This is the "easy" part
#3 Enjoy this time because very real challenges are ahead

The joys right now are many. The kids are all doing really well in their ... Wed, 2 Oct 2013 23:05:27 EST Homecoming Week Stuff has been hopping at school this week for the kids and DH since it's Homecoming Week. Tomorrow is the parade and then Saturday it wraps up with a community picnic with fun activities followed by the homecoming game in the afternoon. Always a fun and busy week!

Boy Scouts has started their annual popcorn sales and DS has been busy selling! It's their major fundraiser for the year and it's how he earns money to participate in activities and such. I'm so proud of him for se... Thu, 26 Sep 2013 23:26:11 EST More Meetings and Stuff Today DH is meeting with Stacy (our adoption social worker) and I meet with her next week. Check and Check..and the list goes on. We are working down the list of requirements with relative ease. We're in no particular rush, but I like the feeling of being able to check things off the list, so we can start looking at kids' profiles. Please continue to pray for wisdom for us when we get to that point (and even up 'til then 211 ).

Food and exercise have been mostly goo... Tue, 24 Sep 2013 15:25:26 EST Love Getting Stuff FREE A few days ago a message came through our homeschool e-mail group that a fellow homeschooler was giving away a FREE pool table. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to be the first to respond, but I tried to remain optimistic and responded saying we were interested.

Let me back up and say DH and I dreamed we'd one day be able to get a pool table and have it in our "Rec Room" in our basement but knew this day was a LONG way off. So, this e-mail was particularly interesting to me. <B... Fri, 20 Sep 2013 10:16:11 EST Trying Some New Recipes So, my mom insisted we take some produce from her house as she was out of town. I took oodles of tomatoes and made my usual chili and spaghetti sauce and then just plain cooked down tomatoes and froze all that.

Then I had half a head of green cabbage leftover after making cole slaw and decided to try that Weight Watchers Zero point stew/soup I'd heard about but never tried. So, yesterday I made a batch of it and DS and I both agreed it was entirely edible and incredibly filling... Tue, 17 Sep 2013 23:29:28 EST PR for 2013 5Ks Yesterday DS and I ran our 6th 5K of the year and we both got PRs (personal records). It was pretty cool since I was sore from doing kettle bells at the gym on Friday morning. My glutes were killing me and I was concerned it was gonna be a literal pain in the butt the whole run.

The other reason it was surprising I did well is because about 1/4 to 1/2 mile in to the race which was on a trail, I rolled my ankle on a rock about the size of a golf ball. I kinda limped a bit immed... Sun, 15 Sep 2013 17:19:48 EST The Talk So after some questions about "personal" things, DD let me know last month she thought she was ready for "the talk." I told her we'd find some time and make a mom-daughter date of it. Well, unintentionally it got put off due to busy schedules and all. Today is the day, though.

We're going golfing and then out to eat and then possibly to a jewelry party at a friend's house. I'm glad she feels comfortable telling when she is ready to hear this kinda stuff because, with her, I was... Fri, 13 Sep 2013 16:07:59 EST
