MSPLACEDAGAIN's SparkPeople Blog MSPLACEDAGAIN's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Progress so far, almost a year As we all start the new 2017 year I wanted to briefly reflect on 2016. I have been a spark member for 6? years. I have lost and gained. Last February, I was again at my high weight, after losing 25 pounds previously. After a doctor's visit, I am back on track. January 1, 2017 I am 20 pounds lighter than I was last year at this time!

I am ready for what 2017 holds! Tue, 3 Jan 2017 09:25:35 EST NSV Body Pump (and big birthday week) So, I have been doing Body Pump, a class with weights and music, for a few years. I enjoy the class, and when I go regularly I see and feel results. I recently gained back some weight, but I am still fitting in most of my clothes. A lot of that I attribute to exercise and especially weights.

Since I have been doing Body Pump, some things have totally, noticeably improved. I can do some good knee push-ups. I have increased my weights for squats and chest press. However, I have stru... Wed, 20 May 2015 11:34:26 EST Museum and Culinary Adventure This week I finally tracked, most days. I was in range, most days. I really enjoyed spring break with exercise outside (hiking, yard work, walking) and inside the gym with two daytime yoga classes at the YMCA. This week I had a weight loss!

I enjoyed the first two weeks of the Winter to Spring Challenge, and knew I wasn't faithful with tracking. But, I added drinking water (our first challenge) and stretching (our second). This week I added tracking and more exercise and am enjoyi... Sat, 16 Mar 2013 09:34:03 EST Spring Break

Today my family and I went out to hike Enchanted Rock. It was very cold, but clear and lovely. We got to the park early and made the hike up. It is a very steep climb. On the walk I discovered two things.
1. I want to be in better shape for our summer trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arches, etc. We want to do hiking, and I will enjoy it more if i am in better shape.
2. I like hiking/walking an... Mon, 11 Mar 2013 23:43:16 EST Goal this week: Tracking I find that I am better with tracking on routine days. Works for water and exercise too. So, now that I am back at work, I am getting into the tracking habit again. I do like the Sparkpeople phone app, and use that at home.

This weekend was my youngest dd's 13th birthday. A teen-ager! I did not track this weekend, but I also did not go CRAZY. And I walked once.

Today my youngest teenager and I brought our gym clothes, and will go right after our after school activity. <... Mon, 4 Mar 2013 14:44:10 EST Week One Firecracker Reflection Positive: I drank water. Back into the habit! I am also drinking hot tea and cut my diet coke consumption! I also exercised more regularly.

To be improved: I did not track, so, I did not lose weight.

Goal: Tracking.

Sat, 2 Mar 2013 12:08:09 EST Day One, Firecracker Winter Into Spring Challenge As I was introducing myself to my new team, I realized something. I described myself as "married, with two teen-aged daughters, two dogs, two cats, a full time job as a special education teacher, and finishing my dissertation."

I think I get so accustom to juggling that I underestimate how stressful all that can be. I do know that I have time in my day to exercise, most days, and that I have learned many healthy habits over my years at Sparkpeople and do really well eating healthil... Sat, 23 Feb 2013 09:32:03 EST Getting ready for Winter 5% Challenge The Good: I am drinking water, especially at work. I have an exercise schedule (dd and I go to the YMCA Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and I walk on the weekends.)

The Not Good Yet: Tracking. I need to Track, yes, on weekends too. Mon, 4 Feb 2013 22:20:20 EST New hair cut and time to recommit The girls and I got new hair cuts yesterday. I like them all! My oldest dd had thought about going really super short, but decided on losing about 7 inches and it is shoulder length and cute! My youngest dd went with a short and shaggy cut that really suits her.

We took pictures when we got back. And I wasn't thrilled with how I look. Part of it was the shirt and the other part is that I lost 20 pounds over a year ago. I felt much tinier and WAS much tinier. But, I have more to go... Thu, 11 Aug 2011 10:42:53 EST Running, then falling down Yesterday I was out running (actually it was feeling like a hard day so I was trudging through my run/walk) with one of my dogs, Gus. It was early in the morning, the sun was in my eyes and I was "just keep running, running, running" (like Dorie in Finding Nemo) and Gus sees another dog, I didn't. This little guy was by a large mailbox. Anyway Gus darts over and I don't see it coming. Tangled up in the leash I wipe out on the street.

Mostly it is an icky scrape on my right elbow. I... Tue, 2 Aug 2011 09:05:25 EST 60 Day Summer Challenge Personal Goals 60 Days of Summer Challenge
Goals

I have several goals that I will work my hardest on this summer. I am going to try writing them down and noting (for myself) how it is going, to keep myself accountable.

Track my food and exercise. This is the ONLY way I have made weight loss progress. At this point of my life, I am someone who is happy to lose weight slowly, if I don't feel obsessed over "dieting" or deprived, or even really hungry routinely. So, I hang out in the... Thu, 7 Jul 2011 12:08:06 EST Capitol 10,000 2011 I ran in the Capitol 10,000 last weekend and LOVED it! My daughter went too, and we both had a blast. This is a HUGE race with 23,000 people running. That had been enough to keep me from it for decades, (that and the fact I wasn't running ;)

I teach at a middle school and they were signing up students and teachers for half the regular cost. I didn't do it last year because I was early into my CT5K program and picked a 5 K in April. This year I was really just getting back into ru... Tue, 5 Apr 2011 22:34:44 EST Five month Sparkcation, mostly a success I have taken a break from Sparkpeople since July. It was going to be a break for the chaos of starting school again. But, it extended beyond that. Overall, I am pleased. I maintained all most all of my 25 pound weight loss. I have gained back 4 pounds, including any and all holiday madness.

I am calling this a success. I credit Sparkpeople for this success, even though I was on a break. All of the healthy lifestyle lessons I learned in my first year on Sparkpeople really stuck! ... Mon, 27 Dec 2010 12:19:33 EST First 5 K in 14 years (minus one running buddy) Today was the Girls on the Run 5K in Austin. My running buddy, my oldest dd Walden is still sick. She is getting better but has a lingering cough. We debated all week about the best thing to do. Should we run/walk? Should we walk? Should I go alone? Friday she stayed home from school and rested all day. She skipped her cousin's birthday part. Saturday she was still not well. We decided that she should sleep and not get up at 6 am for a walk. (Sad Face)

So, I went by mysel... Sun, 25 Apr 2010 19:33:23 EST I am anxious about my 5K on Sunday for no reason, but I am. My oldest daughter, Walden is my running buddy. We have completed the Ct5K training and have been running 3 miles for a while. I didn't pick out a plan following the Ct5K, and we haven't really been training, just running. Three miles, three times a week, most weeks. We signed up for a 5K race this Sunday.

Now, I am feeling anxious. I am really a slow runner. Both dd and I have been sick on and off. She isn't feeling well since last weekend. Before that it was a few days ... Tue, 20 Apr 2010 17:15:56 EST Running? I think I actually LIKE running! The last two three mile runs my daughter, Walden, and I have taken have really been nice. I have found myself realizing that the first hill that I have hated isn't so bad. The long slow incline at about 2 1/2 miles in, really is managable. The stretch by the elementary school isn't fun, but last run I kept up my pace. Last night as we did the last stretch I picked up speed on the last big down hill and kept it up for the last big hill. I am a runner!

The Middle-School-PE-Reje... Sat, 10 Apr 2010 14:41:08 EST Two Milestones in March! This Thursday I put on my *new* pants from Christmas break sales and a cute t-shirt and jacket. During the day I notice that my pants were loose. These pants are size 12! I started SparkPeople barely fitting in my 14 generously-cut-largest pants and shorts. Now the standard 12s are getting big. I noticed that I am overall looking smaller. I am feeling really happy. As I am struggling with describing what I am feeling; I realize it is accomplishment!

It has been years sin... Sat, 27 Mar 2010 09:33:25 EST Finally, I ran THREE miles Yesterday was the completion of a goal I set in December. To be able to run 3 miles. Walden and I started running for 60 or 90 seconds in December. It was cold and so very challenging. But, I enjoyed the time together, and it was fun to jog and walk different routes and see the Christmas lights. Slowly we CT5Ked our way through the weeks. We made it through week five where you jog 20 minutes! Every week we improved. We completed the CT5K program base on time, running 30 or 33 minutes, ... Thu, 18 Mar 2010 11:50:54 EST Exercise with Help: Trying to balance exercise with family I am starting to look forward to my jogs and feel very satisfied when they are completed. Enjoying the actual jog is close, I hope. But, I am motivated and consistent, and that is a good start.

What is so very hard is fitting it in. Yesterday my jogging partner, my oldest daughter, is sick. She is ending a week long cold/allergies funk. She didn't feel up to jogging, but wanted to do *something*. So she decided to bike with my youngest. This started a 20 minute debate, no ki... Thu, 18 Feb 2010 14:26:05 EST I wish I could bottle this week So many weeks I struggle and flounder. In fact, my weight has really only been maintaining for over a month now. But, for some reason, this week I have hit my stride again. I have been in my eating zone for 4 days in a row! That is really remarkable for me. I haven't been *overdoing* it really, just eating a little too much all the time. I have discovered I have a fairly big range for maintaining. Which is good to know for the future. But recently I have been eating just enough routin... Tue, 2 Feb 2010 20:52:23 EST "Have you lost weight?" My new and improved reaction. Finally. Someone noticed that I have lost weight.

Let me say that, I am first and foremost losing weight for myself.

Since starting Spark People in July 2009, I have made several lasting improvements to my life. I am losing weight for my health, and the way I feel better, stronger and more able. I have more energy to share with my family.

One adventure I am excited about is that I have started Couch to 5 K, and am on week four, WITH my 14 year old dau... Tue, 12 Jan 2010 11:50:53 EST Resolutions for 2010! Continue with SparkPeople.
* Track my food. Complete at least 5 days a week, without falling off in the afternoons as I often do.
* I will blog at least once a month about my progress on my goals. I fell like I am not a writer and I am not a "sharer", but SparkPeople has been such a safe place so far, I am ready!
*Continue to drink water and leave encouragement for fellow Sparkers.

Exercise
* Complete my first 5K with my dd in February. It is my fi... Fri, 1 Jan 2010 11:19:33 EST Happiness: shopping in the skinny part of my closet Once upon a time, three years ago to be exact, I lost weight. My dh was diagnosed with the start of Type 2 diabetes. He needed to lose weight and the doctor recommended counting carbs. It wasn't low like and Atkins plan. I joined in. We both lost weight. I dropped a size, from 14's to 12's and felt good. At the end of that summer I got my current job teaching at a middle school. At first I really watched what I ate and maintained. Then I began to eat a little more, and maintained, th... Sun, 13 Dec 2009 18:13:40 EST I'm Feeling it Now! This last week has been a turn for the better, in a lot of ways. The weather has turned beautiful. Here in Texas we were one day away from tying the most days over one hundred degrees record, from sometime in the 1920s! That must have been really draining and exhausting in the decades before air conditioning!

Last week I really enjoyed the fact that some of my clothes that used to be snug, the roomier 14s were hanging off me! Then I tried a few "no way" 14s that I had hung on t... Sun, 20 Sep 2009 19:05:51 EST Things are going well, why don't I feel it? I am mystified. I am successfully losing weight. In fact I am within a pound of 10 pounds! When I look at my weightloss tracker I am a little below the "on track line". And yet I really don't feel it.

That isn't always the case. I do feel "lighter". I am happy to put on my clothes and have them fit nicely. I have more energy, and some days I can see the progress.

Yet, other time I just can't see it at all. I feel the same. And not one person, outside of my cl... Sun, 6 Sep 2009 19:36:55 EST My daughter said she was having a bad day.... I have been on SparkPeople for less than a month now, and what a positive change it has been for me. I am losing weight, but enjoying myself more. Which is what is important for any long term change.

My family joined the YMCA at the start of the summer. We have enjoyed going to classes occasionally, but using the aerobic machines and weights. My oldest daughter is 13, and has begun to really take to the exercise. She has not been big into sports and my husband and I have been ... Sun, 16 Aug 2009 19:18:17 EST Role Model Concerns I have two daughters, 13 and 9. they are wonderful kids and very supportive. My Spark People journey has only recently begun, I am on week three. I am loving the community, support and tools!

As a family we are moving toward eating more healthy and being more active. Prior to joining SP I was *going it on my own* and trying to eat well and exercise. We joined the local YMCA and have all liked it, except DH, who will, maybe, later.

Something is beginning to weigh on ... Thu, 6 Aug 2009 16:02:54 EST Real Life makes an appearance I have started SparkPeople over summer vacation. The first two weeks were pretty easy relatively. Realistic portion control began to set in over those two weeks. I enjoyed tracking my aerobic activity and have begun to slowly work in more resistance. I am enjoying SP, finding my way around and building a community. All of that is great!

I also realize that I do not see myself as the size I actually am. I see myself as smaller, my old self. I really don't feel different, or m... Wed, 5 Aug 2009 19:25:34 EST Day Two I am really in love with this web site. It is a good thing that I am off work for the summer. When I go back to work in mid August, I will be rolling. I am optimistic, for the first time in a while. This is my first blog, ever.
