MSLZZY's SparkPeople Blog MSLZZY's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Wonderful dance recital Since it was so wet and soggy today, I opted to do
as much laundry as I could, do chores early, fill
Molly with gas and meet DH to eat lunch.
The recital hall was filled and we had seats in the
second row. All of the dance students did fantastic.
I had to wear boots to get around in the lots but
the goats were happy to see me at milking time.
We met some friends for dinner and now it is
time to call it a day. Sleep well and have a super
Sunday. HUG... Sat, 28 May 2016 23:37:52 EST Getting ready for the farmers market We have 45 bags of various types of lettuce,
9 bags of spinach and 4 pounds of extra asparagus
and DH pulled some rhubarb to take along with
the eggs. Hoping for a good day but the forecast
is calling for rain to start tonight and last all day
tomorrow. Could be a soggy day for shoppers.
I am glad the work week is done. So much going
on and I am too busy to take even a few minutes
to read email or Spark. What's a woman to do?
I had plans for my mor... Fri, 27 May 2016 23:22:12 EST Quick blog before the day gets away from me College DS and fiancé came for dinner last night and
we had a lovely time catching up on their lives while
they enjoyed pork steak, mashed potatoes and fresh
asparagus. The weather appeared to be turning so
they left as soon as they were down with their meeting
with the minister.
DH gave them the impression that the weather was
going to miss them but it changed paths and did drift
over their area. We had a tenth of an inch of rain but
lots of thund... Thu, 26 May 2016 16:52:56 EST In the middle of a thunderstorm The rain just started a few minutes ago and Molly
is parked behind the concrete bathrooms across the
street in the park. I parked as close as I could and
hope we don't get hail. The weather is keeping
us guessing.
We may lose power so I will add more tomorrow.
We are safe inside. DD is on her way home from
choir practice so all is well. HUGS! Wed, 25 May 2016 22:22:41 EST New mower-lovely lawn I went to the lumberyard to take possession of
our new lawn mower. I drove it home after work,
walked back to get my car and made serious plans
to mow before the rain moves in overnight.
DH didn't think he would like the mower because
it wasn't a zero turn radius. Well, I think a 6 inch
radius isn't so bad. I mowed half the yard and
he finished the other while I push mowed those
areas around the trees and the tight corners.
It looks just lovely and... Tue, 24 May 2016 23:08:39 EST I made progress No gardening today after 3/4 inch of rain early this morning.
That gave DH a break so he could catch up on washing and
candling eggs and freed my evening to tear into the old shed.
It is now officially down and off of the fence. I have part of the
back side left to take loose and about half of the roof. It went
quite well. All of the supports were off the front except the
left side. I walked around to the back and gave it one small
push and it fell forward a... Mon, 23 May 2016 20:51:59 EST My Saturday project-in the rain Before
After

Before

After

I moved 12 wheelbarrows full of feed
and dirt from the front of ... Sun, 22 May 2016 20:33:06 EST Just a few pictures For those who asked-these are my daisy beds.

My creeping flox

My Oriental peony

My poor old sh... Sat, 21 May 2016 11:34:54 EST A visit from DS and wife Our second son and his wife traveled down to
acquire a new puppy from a local farm family
who raises Welsh Corgis. Her name is Daphne
Sue and Cora Jean is their current older dog.
They make a cute pair so I guess I have a new
grandchild LOL!
They came for dinner and we treated them as
a late first anniversary meal. We caught up on
the latest news and when they were ready to
leave, we sent them home with meat from the
freezer and fresh lettuce ... Fri, 20 May 2016 23:38:06 EST Another night free DH took MIL to a memorial service for one of the
cousins that I met years ago and haven't seen since.
He had mental issues but died of a sudden heart
attack at age 58. It runs in the family, just as the
mental health issues. Poor guy.
We had a pickup load of grass clippings from the
guy who mows in town so I did that after DH left.
Next I started to take down an old shed at the farm.
It is leaning against the fence and is worthless.
I pulled the na... Thu, 19 May 2016 21:16:29 EST I gave up Sparking to watch the Survivor finale.
So I will not regale you with details of my day.
I will just tell you that it was so much fun
to immerse myself in a show that could teach
everyone that you can face incredible obstacles,
the cards are stacked against you, you are on the
bottom but you can win.
Yes, some of it is a little cheesy and you do not
see everything that goes on but we are stronger
than we think. Just ask the final 3.
So no matter what li... Wed, 18 May 2016 23:19:26 EST Dinner guests College DS and his fiancé arrived in town
about 5 and we all had dinner together.
They were off to see the minister for marriage
classes and counseling. This first session
was 2 hours long and they will be back
next week. I will be better prepared and
have a nice meal ready. A one hour notice
just doesn't do when the cook is still at work.
Have a wonderful Wednesday. HUGS! Tue, 17 May 2016 23:26:56 EST What to do when DH is gone All the things that I want to do and how I want to do it.
He left to take GD to children's choir while I was in the
barn milking. He had wanted to help corral the mother
goat who got out of the barn Saturday because he didn't
think the baby was getting fed. When I opened the door,
half of the herd ran in and she was inside the barn but
the baby was outside. I shut the bottom double doors
and proceeded to catch the kid and boost him inside.
Once I was in... Mon, 16 May 2016 20:37:18 EST Much needed rest day Sundays should always be a day of rest
and so it was today. Church, coffee time,
a light lunch (pizza-a treat we have maybe
2 times a year), nap time then out to the
garden and doing chores.
We will be sitting outside with the neighbors
if he starts a fire. It is a little cool to stay out
long. So far they are still inside eating dinner.
Hope everyone took time to recharge and
be ready for the new week. HUGS! Sun, 15 May 2016 21:17:57 EST Getting it all done today The day started with DH packing up the eggs
for the farmers market just before we went
to the café for breakfast, a once a month
ritual.
As soon as he was gone, I started cleaning
the front porch and swept off the dried mud
from last week and that encouraged me to
tidy up inside by sweeping the floors and
starting the washing machine. Four loads of
laundry later and the hamper is empty.
I did go over to DS's to finish a few odds and
ends ... Sat, 14 May 2016 23:14:41 EST Not much down time today Not much time to Spark this morning and
making up for lost time tonight. SIL and I
worked hard all day and it showed. I didn't
leave the office until 5:15 and then spent
an hour spreading grass clippings in the
garden and doing chores.
It was almost 7 until we were done and
could consider what to eat. We are looking
into buying a lawn mower with DH's money
from his retirement party with the company.
We have several choices and he wants one <B... Fri, 13 May 2016 23:17:34 EST Marathon harvesting I cut another 10-12 pounds of asparagus tonight
and cut the first bib lettuce. The lettuce will go to
the café and the asparagus will be shared with
my brother, both DD's and a few friends. I did
deliver some to a friend who works in the bar
and she always appreciates the fresh veggies.
SIL could not come today as the construction
crew who are redoing the street by his office
cut the internet connection so he stayed there
to answer the phone and do... Thu, 12 May 2016 21:07:15 EST My other agent kept me hopping SIL wasn't in the office but the other agent had
a stream of clients in and out, phone calls to
return and copies to be made. In between those
things, I worked on my list and made headway.
DH and I moved two boxes of chicks out to the
farm in a pen he had cleared just for them.
Now I only have the youngest ones in the basement
and they will need new boxes and more room soon.
DD had mowed her lawn and the garden was dry
enough to spread the clipping... Wed, 11 May 2016 22:14:23 EST Not so quiet today Lots to do but suddenly SIL's scanner is not
talking to my computer so I am not able to
do the things I need to do. He tried reinstalling
it but I think DD needs to tickle the keys again.
We'll make due for now.
I have to really get cracking tomorrow so I make
up for lost time from today. My list is getting
really long.
Surprise visit from DD tonight so I asked if he
was hungry. He was going to go home and make
something to eat-after 9 pm. So ... Tue, 10 May 2016 23:03:35 EST Merry Monday I had the office to myself all day and kept
ahead of the immediate items and did get
working on the new list of things to do before
SIL comes in tomorrow.
DH was weeding in the garden and is almost
finished with the fine seedlings. Wonder what
is going to do when he is done with that.
He needs to deliver eggs to the store in Freeman,
16 miles down the road. Then he wants to go
to MIL's house. His hometown is celebrating
the one year anniversar... Mon, 9 May 2016 23:07:12 EST A lovely Mother's Day Church and a quick coffee time, then off to meet MIL
for lunch. It was a buffet of ham, beef roast, mashed
potatoes, gravy, taco salad, macaroni salad and 3
desserts. A small portion of each but only 1 small
piece of lemon cake for dessert. We visited for some
time, gave her the hanging basket of flowers from
the grands and the great-grands.
DH worked in the garden today and I worked in the
yard until chore time. Then I was in the garden,
picking... Sun, 8 May 2016 22:53:47 EST Whew! I am ready for a break. I did all the laundry today after helping DH load
up all the eggs for the farmers market.
A young dad came to buy some chickens for
his sons to show in 4-H.
I picked eggs about noon and then spent a
good amount of time shoveling a space in
front of one of the chicken barns to place
a wooden pallet to step on. It is in a lower
spot and the rain collects there and it is always
a sea of mud, wet feed and it smells awful.
I got a call from DH tha... Sat, 7 May 2016 22:15:47 EST DS is much better DS went to his part-time job this morning and
then went home. I don't think he went to sleep
right away but did sleep most of the day. He
will go with DH tomorrow to retrieve his car.
I had the office to myself today but had plenty
to do and also, plenty left undone.
Tonight DH and I finished the mowing, spread
the grass clippings in the garden and then
ate a quiet but late dinner.
DH is going to a farmers market tomorrow
and is taking 144 doz... Fri, 6 May 2016 23:58:27 EST Not the kind of day I was expecting The morning was moving along quite nicely and
I was down to ONE task on my new program and
intended to finish right after lunch.
At 12:21, I had two phone calls through the
interpreter relay service. The first was alerting
me the oldest DS was going to the hospital
but she didn't know why. Then the GF called
and went on and on about so many things that
even the interpreter had no idea what she was
saying. Finally I said I was coming as soon as <BR... Thu, 5 May 2016 22:53:13 EST Time to clear out the basement Guess that won't happen for some time.
The neighbor hatched some of our eggs
and we have 42 new baby chicks with more
to come. He had too many eggs to leave
in one hatching tray so he brought some
of the eggs here to finish. He brought 24
over tonight and I had 18 in the incubator
myself. We may have another 12-24 by
tomorrow night. I asked DH which barn
had room for them when they need to
be moved. He has no idea. Time to stop
hatching e... Wed, 4 May 2016 22:50:45 EST Tip Top Tuesday I was at the top of my game today. SIL was
at an all day meeting but texted me and called
twice so we stayed in touch just fine.
I attacked my to-do list and cut it in half.
The other half will come tomorrow as I
had other duties mixed in with a very full day.
I took the IMP to get new windshield wipers
before I give her to Tammy. I said I would also
vacuum her and wash a couple layers of mud
and dirt off in the process. Not a perfect job
but... Tue, 3 May 2016 22:52:49 EST Having a Senior Moment I knew the café would be closed today so the owners
could go to a family funeral. But I headed uptown
at 6 am, realized what day it was and proceeded to
go to the office instead of returning home.
What does a person do that early in the morning
but Spark? After a short time, I just dug into what
I knew I could do before the agents arrived.
SIL did not come in until my lunch hour but
I had lots of information on his desk. I had dug
into the old file... Mon, 2 May 2016 23:08:03 EST Happy May Day! The rain finally moved away late this morning
and we are all ready for sunshine and drier
conditions.
The goat lot is a very muddy mess and we
had a fair amount of cardio and expended
energy trying to convince the younger goat
to stop running around and get into the barn.
Sorry, no video. DH handled it better but
was still frustrated. Glad she finally complied.
Back to work again and I have a few projects
that I want to start before SIL arrive... Sun, 1 May 2016 22:23:30 EST "Jam" session with the GC All the GC arrived about 10 am and we
got into making jelly and jam. First was
grape jelly made with juice from our own
Concorde grapes. After walking and talking
through the process, each GC has 2 jars of
jelly to show for 4-H, the youngest GS will
only get a participation ribbon on his.
Next was strawberry jam, made with the
strawberries I froze from our garden last year.
Last was plum jam, from plums picked at a
friend's orchard, cooked and... Sat, 30 Apr 2016 18:41:47 EST Preparing for another rainy day If the forecast is to be believed, we are in for another
1-2 inches of rain. Much luckier than our neighbors
to the south in Nebraska and even Iowa, who may
see 3+ inches of rain and some even getting a late
winter snowstorm. I have heard predictions of 3-5
or even 4-8 inches of snow. Not a great forecast.
Once this system moves away, we look to have a
week of much nicer weather with highs in the 60's
or even 70's. That will dry us out and make everythi... Fri, 29 Apr 2016 21:17:12 EST Another missed blog Not sure where my mind was last night but I
must have been really tired because I did not
think to blog.
SIL and I have really been working hard with
the new program. It is getting better but he
is also teaching me more new things to remember
to do each day.
DH made swiss steak for dinner tonight and I
made the garlic mashed potatoes. Then he had
decided he wanted fresh rhubarb pie so there are
2 in the oven. It is always the best when the se... Thu, 28 Apr 2016 21:49:57 EST All the young talent came out tonight I am very partial to trombone players and tonight's
first selection by the young band members would
have made DS so proud. The very first selection
featured the trombone players and GD is one of
the 6 who performed "Trombones on the Run".
They played so well together and the rest of the
band filled in so nicely. So cool.
The kindergarteners were so cute and then the
musical of "Cinderella-if the Shoe Fits" was a
real treat. All of the songs were do... Tue, 26 Apr 2016 22:07:28 EST A splendid spring concert for the GC It was fun to watch the young children sing
and play their band instruments with such
enthusiasm. Aaron was a handful but even
he got into the music.
We will listen to the other 2 GC tomorrow
night and are sure to be equally entertained.
Spring brings out the best in everyone.
Looking ahead to a week of rain coming in
waves-2 days on and 1 day off. We could
expect 2 plus inches in the first event, starting
tomorrow. The farmers have been tryi... Mon, 25 Apr 2016 22:54:46 EST Band concerts are officially over The symphonic and concert bands put on a
rousing concert this afternoon. DS is relieved
and in celebration, we went out for ice cream.
As we drove home, we encountered bouts
of heavy rain and some lightning but it has
all moved away.
Tomorrow will be a fairly nice day but another
front comes through and will linger until late
Wednesday. The farmers here are doing as
much field work as they can in advance of the
potential to have some really ... Sun, 24 Apr 2016 21:57:12 EST Awesome day! DD and I put our heads together with the help
of GD and off to shopping we went. We stopped
at the bridal shop to get color swatches and went
off in search of a dress for DS's wedding in August.
A little hard to find something attractive in coral
or charcoal but we gave it a try. The dresses I
tried on were okay but just not what I wanted.
I told the saleslady what I was looking for as
far as style was concerned and there was one
dress that might h... Sat, 23 Apr 2016 23:35:54 EST And now to bed Since neither of my agents were in the office
until later this afternoon, I was able to work on
a few projects so when they did arrive, it would
look like I was getting something done. They
already know but it is nice to have things laying
out where they can see them.
DD and the family were here this afternoon as
well and we attempted to get my printer to listen
to commands from the computer. Windows 10
does not have an update that helps so it will... Fri, 22 Apr 2016 22:42:26 EST The rain has moved away Since the weatherman had indicated only
a few hundredths of rain, it was very odd to
check out the rain gauge to find well over
an inch of rain this morning. Granted, it came
down slowly but lasted all day and well into
the night. The sun came out today and the
wind was blowing so some areas dried out
nicely.
We went to an auction sale late this afternoon
and purchased a dresser for DD. I was very
pleased that no one else bid it up too high. <... Thu, 21 Apr 2016 23:21:04 EST Forging ahead My agent has changed a bit of the workflow this
morning so I have to be very focused on my to-do
list. Some of the items are fairly easy-if I do it right.
Some are getting more complicated and require
lots of research before I "finish" my task or
activity. Both are very different in this system.
The concert was very nice. DS has only one more
performance left on Sunday and then 2 major
projects to complete and his senior year is over.
It rained mos... Wed, 20 Apr 2016 22:22:13 EST Symphonic Concert tonight DS has another concert tonight and MIL will
be traveling with us. Those hour long trips to
the U will be fading fast with the end of the
school year so we will enjoy them while we can.
SIL took Molly home with him or should I say,
Molly was driving SIL home. His pickup needs
repairs and the IMP is much too small for his
long body. He was worried that he is taking
my wheels from me but I do have something
else to drive for the next day or so.
... Tue, 19 Apr 2016 17:25:28 EST The Jazz Concert was great! Very Jazzy and featured guest performer,
Chris Vidala. DS was lucky enough to get
his autograph. And the man was very pleasant
and down to earth. He complimented all the
young talent that shared the stage with him.
A very wonderful evening! Mon, 18 Apr 2016 23:24:21 EST As the weekend comes to an end I look back at the last 7 days, everything that
has transpired and all the wonderful things
that surround me and I can say with a clear
and positive attitude.
Thank God for Mondays. When I think of
Roger and all the days we thought we had
with him in the future, those are not to be.
But we will have our Mondays until they are
no more. Others will continue to have their
Mondays and moan that they came too soon.
The weekend was too short. I did... Sun, 17 Apr 2016 22:40:59 EST The piano recital and more Up as early as usual, off to the café for my morning
coffee, then home to find DH just getting up. I spent
part of the morning picking up twigs in the yard,
tearing down the old vines on the back fence and
trimming the clematis vines.
Off to the recital. GS received a 1+ on his piece.
His teacher said she had never had a child play
that difficult a song in his first year of lessons.
GD played "The Hunters" and did an excellent
job. She received a 1... Sat, 16 Apr 2016 22:33:53 EST The 4th of July tradition Back in 1970, when our friend, Roger, returned home
from the service, he started the annual 4th of July
Parade, complete with patriotic themes every year.
Now that equates to 45 years of being in charge.
That changes this year but what a record he holds.
At times, we have over 70 floats and entries, and
sometimes as many as 100. Antique cars and
tractors, floats from the businesses and 4-H clubs,
the marching band and the Horse Club, usually
bringi... Fri, 15 Apr 2016 15:09:47 EST One big happy family I was unable to go to the funeral today but
DH did and he stayed for the lunch. The church
was absolutely packed-possible 500 people.
I don't think that church had even been that
full for any other funeral.
After chores, we decided to go uptown to eat
as it seemed the thing to do. Well, the whole
family was there and I had the chance to visit
with the son and his family. And for the rest
of the evening, we were one big happy family,
rememberin... Thu, 14 Apr 2016 21:44:13 EST The family visitation Our friend's family had a 4 hour visitation this
afternoon and evening at the funeral home just
down the block from us, really just one house
between ours and the home so we could walk
down as soon as we made ourselves presentable
after chores.
We talked and hugged all 3 daughters but the son
had gone back to the house with his wife and two
young daughters. We will see him tomorrow. He
was given 2 weeks leave from his military duties in
Kentuc... Wed, 13 Apr 2016 22:29:12 EST Tickled pink but again... Very productive day as I finished all the crop
reports, verified and faxed in before the deadline.
I downloaded a new program on the computer
with just a little hiccup but it is working so now
the fun begins.
The not-so-fun ending to the day was the meeting
with the Crisis Stress Intervention team to talk
over the accident on Saturday. It was a very
good meeting, lots of feeling aired but what
we say there stays there. Nuff said.
I will read ... Tue, 12 Apr 2016 23:21:52 EST I have a new toy Well, hardly a toy but a new computer in the office.
I am hoping to get all of my programs, links, usernames
and passwords transferred from the old computer
by week's end so we can get down to business. I
have retained the old one for a few programs that
are not work related so it is on a side desk for now.
I took a picture of it but will upload it tomorrow.
All in all, a very good day.
Reach for the stars! They are closer than you think! Mon, 11 Apr 2016 22:54:40 EST A fun family day After babysitting the GC last night, DD and SIL
traveled here for church and we had our first
grill out of the year. I made the potato salad
this morning and added honeydew melon, fresh
pineapple and strawberries instead of coleslaw.
SIL and DH grilled hamburgers and all beef
franks and we had a wonderful lunch.
Then the GC went with DH to see all the baby
goats at the farm and all the chickens in the
barn here by the house. By the time they left, ... Sun, 10 Apr 2016 22:19:55 EST Busy Saturday Not so unusual to dig into projects and get things done.
I swept the front porch, entry, living room and dining
room, washed the sheets and played catch up.
DH delivered eggs to the grocery store in the next
town. That left me to organize and set up the bean
in the backyard so I could take all the chicks out
of the basement-all 130+. It took over an hour
but I was glad to be done.
I was getting ready to go to the farm when the
pager went off for a... Sat, 9 Apr 2016 21:33:18 EST Almost the weekend Both of my agents were gone this afternoon
so I had the chance to close the office early
and took advantage of it. I spent an hour at
DS's to vacuum the rest of his bedroom and
walk in closet, the small office space with his
video phone and the bathroom. I did sweep
most of the kitchen but have lots to do yet.
Tonight was the 5th grade science fair and
we observed all the neat projects. Very interesting.
Now we are home and inside and out of the co... Fri, 8 Apr 2016 22:19:38 EST
