MSBEKANATOR's SparkPeople Blog MSBEKANATOR's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community What a Day! We started off our day with a quick trip through Starbucks, and I actually opted for a coffee drink for once, lol. Usually I do one of their tea lemonades unsweetened.
Then we were off for the VA Hospital, to go play for our veterans. This is one of my favorite orchestra activities, as we get to meet so many amazing heroes from the time of WWII on down to those who are serving today. I am always amazed at how much history is represented by those that we are privileged to play for. The ... Sun, 20 Jul 2014 01:22:21 EST So this is where I went.... Sat, 19 Jul 2014 02:19:07 EST Happy/Sad Well, I weighed in today as I won't be able to tomorrow...

The results were a happy/sad kind of moment. I weighed the same as last week, and my initial reaction was a kind of euphoria, because when i got home from our vacation/information trip on Monday I stepped on the scale and was up 2 pounds. (don't even get me started on some of the choices I made as far as food goes on my trip; but the biggest problem I had was portion control, and I think way too much sodium since we were e... Fri, 27 Jun 2014 23:18:00 EST Pep Talk Time Well, this is a pep talk I shared with a Sparkfriend, and it's just something I wanted to save for me for when I need it, lol. Feel free to read it, maybe it will encourage you? Hope so anyways, lol.

I so understand what you are going through. I work as a volunteer counselor with a faith based addictions program; and I know what you mean about kicking the food addiction. It's not like we can just quit eating. And then as you so aptly said, unhealthy food is literally everywhere ... Fri, 20 Jun 2014 01:53:06 EST So far it's been an interesting journey! I am still trying to figure out this gluten free thing I have to live with now, by Dr's orders, and I must say that it has it's ups and downs..... The ups are all the new recipes I am happily trying as I love to cook. I made an awesome Thai dish with rice noodles and chicken that I probably would have never even thought about cooking before this change in my life. (can I say I love siracha!!) Going gf certainly has shaken me out of the rut of cooking the same old, same old stuff.... The down... Sat, 14 Jun 2014 03:36:27 EST Visiting my Mom's garden... I think my Mom's garden has to be one of my favorite places in the world. It is always changing; yet it retains a quality of tranquility and peace that transcends the seasons. There is something very amazing about sitting in the middle of such an exquisite place, enjoying the beauty of your surroundings, and taking in the antics of the birds, squirrels, and rabbits. I love sitting there quietly and waiting until the birds forget you are not a part of the landscape and resume their daily activ... Thu, 29 May 2014 04:22:15 EST Music I am home finally after a wonderfully busy weekend of music. I am very tired as playing with your heart takes a lot out of you... but I am also very peaceful and contemplative, which is the wonderful state I end up in after i have played a lot.

We started yesterday with a small ensemble at the VA. It's always piecemeal as to who will be there as Saturdays are busy for so many people and the hospital is well over an hour away; yesterday we ended up with a trombone, a trumpet, a so... Mon, 21 Apr 2014 02:33:57 EST Manga? Nope, it's not for dinner! I had a great afternoon with middle daughter. (4th child) She is on a temporary lay off from work til the end of May, and it is awesome to be able to spend extra time with her. She is very self-sufficient and organized, (not inherited from me, lol) and extremely artistic. Her forte has always been her talent in drawing, with music being secondary. Music is my love, and it was a little bit of a struggle inside of me when she decided to stop lessons and put away the instruments a couple of year... Sat, 19 Apr 2014 01:53:09 EST What to do? Grain Free or Not? Advice Wanted! As some of my Sparkfriends know, I have been having some health issues the past year and a half. Besides my knee (torn meniscus surgery & arthritis) I have had some gastrointestinal problems. When they did all the blood work, the one that shows sensitivity to gluten came back elevated, but not high enough to be celiac disease. My wonderful doctor said I needed to watch what I eat, make note of how my body responds, etc. So I have been doing that. Seems like lately, if I consume to much of whe... Sat, 19 Apr 2014 01:07:19 EST How can everyone be right when they don't agree? It is amazing how many people are out there with the "best" idea/way to acheive optimum health and weight loss. And it is equally amazing how many of them contradict each other. I went to a weight loss/ health seminar tonight, and I am also currently reading a book on adrenal fatigue recommended by a friend, and much of the basic health advice was polar opposites. A friend went with me who attends Weight Watchers (and looks amazing I might add) and her comment was that some of the stuff said ... Tue, 25 Mar 2014 01:30:44 EST The Power of Words... As some of you know, I work as a volunteer with a faith based addictions program as a small group leader. It is a pretty remarkable experience, and I have to say that it has stretched me and grown me in ways that I never would have expected when I started. I love the ladies in my group, and we have had many interesting discussions during our group time. Tonight's was particularly poignant as we were talking about words.
Words have such an amazing power. They have the power to crush and d... Fri, 21 Mar 2014 04:50:11 EST Do I, or Don't I???? Crazy question to be asking this time of night, lol. It's 12:50a.m. My oldest son, and my middle daughter are driving home from Northern CA to Southern CA as I type. They took my youngest daughter back to college today. They took what we normally do as an overnight trip, and are doing it as a round trip in one day.
So here I sit. Past bedtime, yet not really tired. I am not really worried, it's more a mindfulness mixed with a smidge of worry... Sometimes my faith is not so strong, lol. ... Fri, 21 Mar 2014 04:01:13 EST Keepin on Streakin! and other random thoughts... So happy to make it another day! Day six is done. I checked in, I exercised! Woo Hoo!!!

It feels so right to be back tracking food, making sure I am exercising, checking in here... we are so blessed with the resources we have at our fingertips. Of course, the greatest treasure here on SP are the people. I am almost overwhelmed with the love and kind remarks and encouragement from the people here. I feel blessed, that's all I can say.

My day didn't go as planned; but do... Thu, 20 Mar 2014 02:20:36 EST I am so happy! I recently reignited my passion to be here on SP, and to jump back into things. Being off and on for a bit really made me realize how much I love this place, and the people that I have been blessed to meet here.
I am on day 5 of my attendance streak (even made a check in on Sunday, which has always been my "struggle to check in day"!), and day 5 of my exercise streakkkkkk!!! That is a ginormous woo hoo!!! I have been struggling with exercise following my knee surgery, and finally decide... Wed, 19 Mar 2014 01:53:33 EST Winter Wonderland (Southern California style) Between watching my Spark Friend Shelli's (MostMom1) vlog walk in the snow today, and my friend Dee's (Oten36) Facebook postings of their -20 degree temps (I shudder just thinking about that one), and my daughter posting a screen shot of our temperatures to "cheer up" all her freezing college friends back home in the midwestern, northern and eastern states, I felt the urging to put down how I am feeling about this whole cold thingy going on. So here it goes, with my humble apologies to Richar... Thu, 12 Dec 2013 15:36:35 EST A to Z~ About Me I have had some Spark friends blog this. Wed, 11 Dec 2013 17:25:36 EST Thoughts on Mondays....

I have to admit, I have often felt this way about Monday!

Usually however I love Mondays, as I see them as a fresh start, a clean slate, a new beginning. Mon, 9 Dec 2013 03:52:51 EST Welcome Back! (to me) Well, I am going to write one of those posts that are for me, but you are welcome to read it if you want.

I have been gone from SP for 45 days! That is a lot. Earlier tonight I had a discussion with my self, although some of it was heard by my little dog~ and she just gave me that "not again" look, and rolled over and went back to sleep. Little does she know that the end result of that discussion is going to rock her little world too, lol. No more days snoozing in front of the fire... Thu, 5 Dec 2013 03:54:54 EST Friday Funiez Okay, so I got sidetracked... I am not in bed yet, lol. It shows I do have a torn meniscus, I actually managed to tear it in two places. When I fall I do it right, lol. (or wrong...) This means an arthroscopic knee surgery is now in my very near future. I will talk to the scheduler tomorrow, so I will know when it is going to happen then. I talked to the Dr about the probability of walking a 5K by the end of October, and he said it isn't going to happen. It looks like the Color Vibe ru... Fri, 6 Sep 2013 02:39:24 EST That was close! I ended a very busy long long (but fun) day coming home at 10:30 tonight. I was busy talking to my daughter as we were getting ready for tomorrow, and recapping our days at the same time. I decided to jump on the computer to check sparkpeople at 11:40ish and when I did, it hit me! I am on day 2 of my new streak, where I am only counting exercise I do just to exercise for my streak.
Now I walked a whole lot today in the course of my activities. My knee was achy, and sore, and throbby. Ad... Thu, 5 Sep 2013 03:38:57 EST Is It Too Late? To wish everyone Happy September? Yay, cool weather is just around the corner. I love this time of year, especially the restarting of routines after summer is over. It is kind of sad that it was my last summer with a kiddo spending a summer off, (well at least as off as it can be with youth conferences, camps, mini vacations, vacation, etc) It was really strange not to have to take anyone to school last week... Instead we spent the week putting in job applications for seasonal work, as she is... Wed, 4 Sep 2013 02:08:23 EST Catch Up!!!! Where does time go? It is already the end of August! Since I have been living the chaotic busy life the last few weeks, I figured I would try and do one blog to catch up a little bit.

It's been a good summer. Awesome visit with my Mom, time with my family to do stuff, setting some fun goals for work and meeting them... Sat, 31 Aug 2013 03:31:07 EST That's a fact... As most of you know, I am at my Mom's house in WA enjoying a beautiful vacation that is rapidly coming to a close. How does time manage to fly away so quickly?

We have been blessed with some amazingly beautiful weather, and I am totally enjoying being able to sit out in the garden and read! (had several opportunities to weed out there also, but that is a different story, lol. You would be so proud of me Dee!) Today I picked up my Mom's new AARP magazine to thumb through, and starte... Sat, 6 Jul 2013 23:21:48 EST Shaking Off the Complacency... The last few weeks have tumbled by in a blur, it truly has been a busy time. Today is one of the first full days I have had off, and although the carpets need vacuuming, and the mantel needs dusting, I decided I really needed to sit down with myself and just refocus.

I've slid into a complacency about things; I am guessing due to the busyness? I haven't been weighing or measuring food. I haven't been using the food tracker, or fitness tracker (although I did update it this morning... Tue, 21 May 2013 14:40:15 EST Pep Talk My assignment today from Spark Coach was to give myself a pep talk. Good timing, as when I was at the Dr. today the scale registered up a pound.

Although I wasn't so happy about that, I kind of laughed to myself and figured it was a good time to complete that assignment. So here it goes...

So, what's a pound... It is the weight of two thirds of my regular water cup. It is 2 8 oz yogurts, or a can of beans. It really isn't significant, earth shaking, or shattering... i... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 19:13:19 EST Tomorrow is Today! Yesterday's plan to start back today happened! Woo Hoo!

I am back in the saddle again on tracking food, and I've decided to weigh and measure everything I am eating for the next couple of weeks. It's funny how when you stop that the portion sizes slowly creep up to a larger size, especially for cereal, lol.

I did get some walking in, and also some odds and ends of other activities, and wow, my muscles are feeling it. It is a good feeling, a good tired to have. I can'... Fri, 12 Apr 2013 02:39:52 EST The Day Before Tomorrow Sometimes life feels like it's just one thing after another. Wed, 10 Apr 2013 17:28:36 EST What a Day! I started my morning off with a wonderful NSV. Since summer has decided to descend upon us early, I pulled one of my summer dress tops out to get ready to go out for the day, and it didn't fit. It was too BIG! Awesome, amazing, happy surprise!!!

I headed out for a quick visit to a couple of the girls who are in my Sunday School class, just to make them feel a little special. Wed, 13 Mar 2013 18:54:31 EST Avast There Me Matey! I was commenting on my Sparkfriend Success_in_2013's blog tonight, and ended up with the thought that I really need to get back into following the health plans I have laid out. I really can make some better choices than I have recently; so it's back to the healthy life for me.

That thought really tickled my funnybone.
