MRSSUZSTAR's SparkPeople Blog MRSSUZSTAR's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 6 pounds gone I know, I do know! It isn't much considering how much I want and need to lose but it is loss! Since I got my Jawbone Up2 in October I've finally lost 6 pounds. That means I have 29 to lose to get to my goal weight. When I started back on the journey I had gotten up to over 180 again (highest I remember because I refused to notate it anywhere was 184) and when I had to replace my Spark Activity Tracker after I lost it I was at 180. I would drop a pound and be stuck there for weeks and weeks. T... Thu, 20 Apr 2017 11:44:16 EST 10 days in to the Lenten walking & exercise challenge I'm seeing a few small results - I've broken my weight plateau by dropping .6 pounds, I have been trying to keep up with extra working out, and my daughter is moving around as well. That being said I'm rarely meeting the actual step goal daily but I am not giving up! Lent is about sacrifice and preparation for Easter and the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It isn't about things being easy. As long as I don't give up I'm winning. Never give up, never give in! Sat, 11 Mar 2017 10:28:28 EST 40 days in and still walking To add to my own walking challenge now my 6 year-old has an activity tracker all her own and she is moving and grooving! In the 7 days since she got it she has walked 86,207 steps! That is what she has tracked but I know it is more because she sometimes forgets to put it on first thing in the morning and races around before she does. As for me I've been getting in steps, not as many as I would truly like but I'm working on it! From day one through day 39 I've walked 164,003 steps. That is a L... Thu, 23 Feb 2017 11:55:06 EST 21 days of the walking challenge down! So far it has been 21 days. I've had days I have just slammed the goal to the floor and kicked it but there have been days I've barely made even 1/4 of the goal. That being said I've walked 85,140 steps or 36.53 miles in those 21 days. I'm seeing some results in my measurements and I'm finding myself wanting to push for a few more steps to meet the goals. I have a BUNCH still to do to get to my goals but each day brings me a step closer and a bit healthier. I'm praying that I get to my goal t... Sun, 5 Feb 2017 15:11:05 EST One week in and I'm going strong! So our Catholic Moms group has another walking challenge going on - this one is 45 days Preparation for Lent challenge. This week I've walked 28,167 steps. That is approximately 14 miles walked. I also got in 8.75 miles on the stationary bike on Friday. It is my goal to be able to keep up walking challenges all year long and to add in exercise outside of walking. I have at least 20 pounds I want to lose by June so things like this are the only way it will happen. I'm going strong! Are you? Sun, 22 Jan 2017 14:00:20 EST As 2016 finally comes to a close 2016 has been a year...not a good year but not totally a bad year either. It has presented our family with obstacles to overcome and with once-in-a-lifetime experiences that we can never truly express our gratitude for. As I sit here, pondering the last 12 months I have come to realize that, at 45, I am responsible for my joy and my sorrow. I choose how to approach things, life does not, nor does anyone else. I haven't met a single goal for this year, not a one, but you know what? I'm not goi... Sat, 31 Dec 2016 14:16:06 EST Cycling miles for May Finally back a bike and working towards some pretty big goals. That being said I've logged 57.7 miles in May! That is 4 weeks in the gym and getting in as many days as we can. Already working on the miles for June and I have started really seeing some big non-scale victories for myself. Tightening, toning and being able to wear things I could just weeks ago! I love those victories sometimes way more than I love the scale ones. If I can do it (again) then anyone can! Tue, 7 Jun 2016 13:26:08 EST No danged fear! ;) Or rather - feeling less fear because I know I can do it now! We've had 3 weeks in the gym and I've been able to get on the bike for as much as 45 minutes and ride. Also we have finally put in new batteries on our bike computers and got to get outside on them yesterday for the first time in over 6 years. Now comes the training part of this...I have to be able to ride, comfortably without hurting myself, at least 25 miles from the start line to the first rest stop for the Ride to the River. On... Tue, 31 May 2016 11:52:48 EST One week down and already seeing results!
My husband bought me some nice pants for Mother's Day and when they came in they wouldn't button, much less zip. That was it! I had to do something to fix this issue. So last week my 23 year-old and I started at the gym. 3 days we went and worked out, hard core, 2 leg days and one arm day, then training on the stationary bike. I've not lost pounds but obviously I've started toning. Today I decided... Mon, 16 May 2016 17:52:29 EST No more pity party! No more excuses! I was sitting here feeling sorry for my dumpy self tonight and had enough! I got off the round tushy & got down on the floor & exercised right here. No more poor me & nothing fits! I'm taking back my life & my body! It isn't going to be easy, this is war! It will be a battle every single day to quit wasting my precious time! No excuses! I have too much to live for & daughters to give a good example to! I can't let my health take a back seat! It isn't an option! This time it is for me!
<... Fri, 6 May 2016 22:16:33 EST Totally crazy but I did it! I signed up to ride in the Bike MS: Ride to the River! I've not been on my bike since January 2010 and yet I decided that this goal had to be met. I'm riding for my cousin, my friends, and ultimately for myself. I HAVE to train to be able to do this so therefore I have to get myself in shape. You never know what you can do until you try it, right? I made it through a 1/2 marathon at 44 so I can do this, also at 44! I cannot imagine not doing it. Wish me luck and say some prayers because this ... Sun, 6 Mar 2016 15:07:37 EST Mileage total for 2015 My 'goal' was 1000 miles in 2015. My actual was 592.66 miles. That seems like a big deficit. It really isn't though. I started in 2013 trying to get to 1000 miles in the year. I barely made it to 100 miles in 2013 due to health issues. In 2014 I barely made it to 400 miles also due to health issues. So the fact that I'm just shy of 600 miles is huge for me! I completed my first 1/2 marathon in December so that time was well spent. I'm proud of the fact that I made it that many miles. I just h... Wed, 3 Feb 2016 18:38:25 EST 13.1 ROCKED! 2 years in the making, many hours in preparation, much pain, much sorrow, and finally much joy! On Sunday, December 6, 2015 - I completed the San Antonio Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon in 3:59:23. I'm no race horse but I proved that slow and steady can complete the race.

This is not to say that I couldn't have done better, much better, but lessons have now been learned. First and foremost - listen to your feet and your shoes! When the reps tell you, 'don't let your shoes go for over 500... Thu, 10 Dec 2015 18:14:21 EST Feeling down Life currently has me feeling down. I've tried to get myself motivated but it just isn't working. I was thinking hard about this last night. I know the questions that will be asked of me by those I need to approach on this. How was I able to do it before? How is it that this time it isn't working as it did then? Several others. I can tell you straight up right now why I did it before and why it isn't working for me now. Then I was able to initially get into a place where I had the social aspe... Wed, 1 Jul 2015 11:06:46 EST THAT number :( I saw a number on the scale I had hoped I would never see again. Lack of motivation and drive brought that number back to me. What is that number? 164. I know for a lot of people that number is one they look forward to seeing but for me it is not good at all! When I started my initial weight loss journey many years ago now, that number was my 'stop' point. I had lost 25 pounds (from the last number I looked at on a scale back in 1998) and I sat at 164 for 2 full years! I was 164 when I got ma... Wed, 18 Mar 2015 12:26:51 EST Finishing out 2014 better than 2013! In 2013 I joined a 1000 miles in 1 year challenge and barely ended the year with 100 miles. I joined again in 2014 and even with health challenges and surgery/recovery I beat my previous miles! I finished off the year with 472.3 miles! Yes I know I am not even CLOSE to the 1000 miles I signed up to meet but I beat myself and that is what I was planning/hoping to do. The challenge hasn't been picked up by the group again for 2015 but I'm challenging myself. I have my little notebook that I use... Thu, 1 Jan 2015 14:14:47 EST Back in action! After 6 weeks of nothing post surgery and a week following that just trying to get myself back into the right mental state today I finally made it out to do my first post surgery walk. 1.9 miles is not a lot for someone used to doing 5k distances but it is great for someone who hasn't done diddly squat for several months! I'm tired and feeling my exercise but it is a happy tired and feeling my exercise. I'm finally back in action! I have a LONG way to go but this was step one in a huge series... Sun, 23 Nov 2014 17:23:43 EST A little down but not out! So my hysterectomy has been scheduled for October 2, which is months after we had hoped it would be set for and completed. This means several things, but the biggest is that I will not, now, be able to participate in the 1/2 marathon I signed up for that takes place on December 7th. I'm quite disappointed because I've been excited all year about participating in this. I have to see if the organizing group will allow me to transfer my registration from the 2014 event to the 2015 event. If so t... Thu, 21 Aug 2014 12:12:40 EST A little date with my 21 year-old daughter Last night my daughter and I went out for a little girl time. It was fun and I was proud of her and how I actually looked. I'm glad that we did it because you never know what life will bring. In the words of my grandmother, 'Live your life to the fullest because tomorrow is not guaranteed.' So I am working on doing that a little more every day.

Sun, 20 Jul 2014 13:40:14 EST Upcoming procedures My health hasn't been the most wonderful thing of late and now we are looking at surgery to fix the issues. On this coming Tuesday, 7/15, I'll be undergoing a hysteroscopy and D&C to biopsy my uterine lining to see if the suspicion of adenomyosis is correct (though in truth they won't be able to determine that 100% for certain until the uterus is removed completely) of it there is something more insidious lurking such as cancer or even something pre-cancerous. This procedure will determine if... Thu, 10 Jul 2014 13:45:23 EST Challenging myself It has been a long time since I really challenged myself. Right now I'm so busy doing craft stuff that I haven't really challenged myself physically. Since I am part of a challenge for San Antonio Spark I figured I needed to rise up to meet that challenge. So I'm putting forth the challenge to myself to reach for those goals and find in my own being what I need to do it! So there you go. Wed, 20 Nov 2013 10:52:10 EST Crafting Right now my crafting is taking the place of my exercise. I know I need to work on that big time because I need my exercise as well. For now, though, I have a ton of items to make and have ready for the big show I'm in on December 7th so everything else will just have to get tossed in when I can tear myself away from the crafting. Sat, 16 Nov 2013 14:15:44 EST First 5k since 2009 Today I participated in my first 5k other than Walk MS since 2009. The funny thing is the last one I did in November 2009 was the Break the Silence 5k for ovarian cancer and today I did the same event - Break the Silence 5k. Today I was not alone, it was myself and little Sophia. She rode in her jogging stroller while I pushed her. This event was not like most of my 5k events - it was completely filled with hills and pushing a 20 pound stroller (filled with stuff) and a 26+ pound 2 year-old i... Sat, 28 Sep 2013 18:12:49 EST Barium = weight loss? So it seems that barium and my body react very interestingly. I have been cleaned out, literally, for over 36 hours, not the normal reaction it would seem. In this process I've dropped from 157 on Tuesday (which was up 2 pounds from a week or so ago) to 153! Weight loss right now is weight loss so I'll take it. I'm trying to get to 150 by my birthday so that means now only 3 pounds. I have a big 5k this coming weekend so that will help, since I will be doing at least 4 days of walking to prep... Sat, 21 Sep 2013 17:47:53 EST 10 pounds Who would have thought 10 pounds would mean that much? Yesterday I went to visit with our general practice clinic due to some kidney pain and continued abdominal pain (since June 5, 2012 even post surgery to 'fix' it) and when I was weighed I was exactly 10 pounds lighter than when I had been there in March of this year. That isn't a huge deal but it meant going from overweight to normal on the BMI chart, going from a 10/12 pants to comfortably being in a size 8, and having the nurse who alwa... Wed, 18 Sep 2013 16:14:41 EST So many firsts! In the last 7 days we have had so many firsts! A week ago we had a huge fundraiser for Sophia's upcoming and previous medical procedures which was a great success. That day she got to ride on the huge fire rescue truck (a first for not only her but mommy and daddy), a pony, and just be herself. Then on Friday while we were at Sea World/Aquatica after her swim lessons we got to get in and interact with stingrays! This was a first for not only her but big sister Kat and mommy!

We ha... Sun, 18 Aug 2013 08:54:11 EST The bugaboo in my ear I was talking to a dear friend yesterday and realized that I have what my grandma would call a bugaboo in my ear. In otherwords I have something I can't let go of and I need to do so. I have this lack of motivation that comes and goes. One week it is all 'yahoo let's go' and the next it is 'why am I even going to bother?' So in order to get that bugaboo gone I need to find ways to self motivate that don't require a LOT of time. With the upcoming fundraiser, making necklaces for an order for m... Sun, 21 Jul 2013 13:23:31 EST Another pound bites the dust! I have seen yet another pound bite the dust. I'm on my way to that first mini goal and I am NOT looking back. Even with tonight having pizza I ate sparingly and enjoyed some yummy sweet watermelon for dessert. :) I'm back to my old eating habits for the most part, which is good. Eating anything I want but remembering to eat less of whatever it is. I lost the majority of the weight I did lose before getting pregnant with Sophia this way. I'm not getting any younger but I intend to keep getting... Tue, 16 Jul 2013 22:40:20 EST Oh yeah!
This little number made my day today! Usually post period I have 5 pounds to try to lose all over again. This month I only gained one and within a day I had gone back to original weight. This morning, after stopping last night, I have actually lost another pound! This means I only have 4 more pounds to go to reach my first mini goal of 155! I'm doing the happy dance! Singing a happy song. Ready to get moving along! Wed, 10 Jul 2013 12:34:03 EST Sunday Funday I think I want to try to figure out how to make today a Sunday Funday for Sophia, my hubby and me. I don't know what to do. My oldest is over at my parents' helping my mom with cleaning out stuff that she has kept at their house since birth, basically. My mom is running out of room! My hubby is never much for doing stuff away from home but his mom is about to move from Cali to Texas and I know he won't get away with that for long. I guess I want to ease him into it.

I noticed Frid... Sun, 7 Jul 2013 14:39:23 EST Ucky tummy GO AWAY! Don't come back another day! Some days I really hate being female but last night really almost took the cake. I was rudely awakened at 2 this morning with cramps that I thought were female issues. It turned out to be stomach issues that kept me up for over an hour! 46 I really hate when that happens. So far all I've had today is a triple berry yogurt smoothie I made to try to calm down my messed up stomach. I had really intended a lot more today as my hubby is off work for July 4... Thu, 4 Jul 2013 14:29:56 EST Need to remotivate myself this week Last week I was all gung ho and this week I can barely move my bootie before noon even though I'm up hours before that. I know part of my problem is female issues but still I have to be consistent. At least I'm eating more consistently than I had been for ages.

I'm also trying to get Sophia's fundraiser completely planned. It is just over a month away and I'm struggling to get things going. I know it is partly because it IS over a month away but I cannot put it off. We need to be ... Wed, 3 Jul 2013 10:55:26 EST Kicking butt and taking names! Not going to even begin to attempt to calculate miles/workout today but we started at 8 this morning with Sophia's swim lesson which she rocked at! Then from 10 until almost 4 we were at Aquatica up and down a billion steps, walking all over to go to a billion different spots, carrying Sophia when the cement got too hot, squatting in water less than 2' deep to play with her, and otherwise being completely and insanely active. I wore a bathing suit today I have not been able to get on since pr... Fri, 28 Jun 2013 19:02:01 EST Back in the saddle begins in earnest! This morning we got up, got dressed, and walked! It was Sophia, Kathryn and me out in the already warm weather. The goal was to try to get Sophia to be hungry because she hasn't been wanting to eat much since she has been on the Prednisone, but also we want to get back in shape as a family. It has been an eye opener to me that we've become complacent and well that is not something I'm good at accepting. Every day we will do some sort of workout routine. Day before yesterday I went out to map ... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 11:36:46 EST Our rainy Saturday training ;) So Neal (PositiveOne), Teresa (Oldschooler), Leslie (LMTorres), and I turned up at McAlister Park for our training for the San Antonio 1/2 Sparkathon (13.1 miles). Not only did we brave the weather, low water crossings, and craziness BUT we actually played rescuers! There was also a 5k to support those who are victims of domestic violence and due to the rain (about 1" per hour btw) the parking areas were total mud! This one poor truck with two girls in it was fairly hopelessly stuck. So we he... Sat, 18 Feb 2012 12:38:03 EST It only took 7 days but... I finally dropped another pound! I sat at 167 for a full 7 days before yesterday finally seeing 166 on the scale. That made my day! I was 166 again today so that means I'm not jumping up and down on the is moving DOWN which is the right direction. Today I got 31 minutes of Wii Sport exercise in. Tomorrow I have a plan for trying Zumba again. Tuesday I'm going to HAVE to do something very active as I have a problem to deal with that evening. Wednesday I have nothing set in stone for... Sun, 22 Jan 2012 16:33:09 EST Has made it 15 days with the new goals I've successfully kept off 2 pounds and that is a step in the right direction. I've got a LOT more to do and I know it. I'm already seeing some toning because I'm doing what is called sports specific training on my Wii Sport. The weight isn't coming off quickly but I'm seeing toning. I am ready to get back to playing tennis but since I don't have anyone to play against right now I'm sticking with my Wii Sport. I'm getting my swing back though! That is a great feeling. I used to play in high s... Sat, 14 Jan 2012 13:51:41 EST 11 days in and still going strong! Today is 11 days into 2012 and I'm still going strong! Today we did a 2.14 mile walk in the gorgeous winter weather. My goal by next week is to be back up to 5k distances regularly. I have a series of 5k events I'm looking forward to doing in March and April. Today is the longest I've done in months. I KNOW I can do it. I WILL do it! Let's kick 2012 bootie!

216 Wed, 11 Jan 2012 13:07:18 EST First exercise OOPS of 2012 Well trying to start on my first real venture into my Zumba videos today led to me stepping on Sophia's little foot. OY! She is refusing to go down for her nap so I let her walk around while I was trying to get started. She silently came up behind me and just as I did a step back I came right down on her little foot and knocked her down. Poor little bugger! :( I felt SO bad. Now she is still fighting going down for a nap but in her crib. I hope she goes down soon so I can get back in there to... Sun, 8 Jan 2012 14:25:47 EST Day 7 of 2012 So I've survived 7 days into 2012. I've been pretty consistent moving and I need to keep doing it. Last night I went to a concert with my friend for the first time out in a year. I was really good, I had only one drink! I danced for about 45 minutes before my body gave out. Wrong shoes! However it made me realize that I miss dancing more now than I have in a LONG time! I'm going to drag out my Zumba tapes and work on learning how to do this. I cannot afford to go back to Jazzercise so I have ... Sat, 7 Jan 2012 11:31:35 EST 4 days in to the New Year and so far... I have only missed one day with doing official exercise. I joined the January challenge but I know that I cannot commit right now to specific set exercises. I have to exercise when and how I can when Sophia lets me. I took a day off and yet I chased a little walker all over the mall because she was wanting to walk on her own. My hubby now understands the desire to put the kiddos on a little leash/harness. She is SO active! Today I haven't even begun to exercise but I'm working on getting out ... Wed, 4 Jan 2012 14:37:15 EST Back on the wagon I hate saying this but I have not been on the wagon for a long while now. It is only MY fault, I have no one and nothing else to blame. Yesterday Sophia helped me with a strength training workout and today she and I went on a walk up at the university. I have a simple goal - to get fit and healthy, have both of my girls together again, get my family to stay fit and healthy and have a great 2012. I think I am going to pull my favorite suit out of the storage chest and hang it somewhere I can s... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 12:10:23 EST Project So little Sophia has decided to learn to stand in her crib. While this may not sound like a big deal it is. The beautiful crib we are borrowing from family only goes down to halfway down the crib which means when standing if she leaned forward she would go headfirst onto the floor. So we have 'rescued' this crib from the people across the street from my parents and I'm spending time sanding and painting it. It is an old-fashioned looking crib with spindles for rails. It has been my workout fo... Thu, 4 Aug 2011 13:06:01 EST Guess who won the weight loss challenge??? That's right! ME! I lost 4.2 pounds to my hubby's 1.6 pounds. Since then I've lost another 2 pounds! I got my portion control UNDER control and I've been exercising when I can. I realized that my hubby has to be around (or someone has to be around) for me to do the strength training portion of my exercise because Sophia is too mobile now for me to do it any other way. Someone has to be around to watch her and what she is getting into! I'm just happy that I'm on my way back to my goal!
<... Wed, 20 Jul 2011 10:37:15 EST Day 3 and 4 of hubby vs. wife weight loss challenge Yesterday was too busy for me to post so I'm doing it now before I head to bed. Kat and I went to my first Mary Kay meeting in over 10 years! It was awesome to be back and know that I'm working toward a new career that I could have had all of these years but now is the time. When Kat moves back she will be joining my team. :)

So since we started this challenge on Sunday I've dropped from 171.4 to 166.6! That is a great feeling! I am looking forward to seeing how much I lose between... Fri, 15 Jul 2011 00:18:39 EST Day 2 of the hubby vs. wife challenge So this morning I get on the scale and I've already lost 4.4 pounds. :) I have gone from 171.4 to 168. Amazing what a little competition will do. Sophie, Kat and I went on the same walk route Sophie and I did yesterday. I think tomorrow we are going to stay indoors and try some Zumba. :) I have the videos and just never have used them. I am bound and determined to lose weight and get BACK in shape! My body hates me being this heavy and I agree with it. So here we go! Tue, 12 Jul 2011 14:52:25 EST Week long weight loss challenge - hubby vs. wife So my hubby and I are in a week long weight loss challenge. We weighed in last night and he started at 209 lbs and I started at 171 lbs. I have put back on about 16 lbs that I had lost from having Sophie while I was able to breastfeed. Today I did a 1.06 mile walk (according to the pedometer) while pushing Sophie in her jogging stroller. Tonight for dinner I made homemade hamburgers on the George Foreman and fresh corn on the cob. :) I am praying that I kick some hubby bootie! I don't have a ... Mon, 11 Jul 2011 23:09:50 EST Recommitted and re-energized! After 6 months of not doing what I need to do to get back to being healthy and in shape I've recommitted myself and I'm re-energized to making it happen! Today Sophie and I went to Woodlawn Lake for a 2.6 mile walk (that is 2 times around the lake). It is the first step in the LONG process of getting my body and health back. Sophie is going to have to put up with me doing it. *smirk* Walk or do the bike trainer one day then the next day do strength training. That is my goal for now. It is so ... Tue, 17 May 2011 14:09:13 EST Too long since my last entry So I am sitting here thinking about life. I hate my body and my weight again but I know that it is all in my hands to fix it. It is now pretty outside most of the time so I am going to have to get moving again. Sophie likes riding in her stroller so I will use that to help with the working out. However, I am debating looking for a used jogging stroller for walks. After the (successful) Walk MS 5k and my hands killing me using the regular stroller I know no matter what I have to use my cycling... Sun, 20 Mar 2011 14:10:20 EST Challenging myself Since Sophie was born I've promised myself I would get all of the weight off and right away I lost 20 pounds. Then I had to quit breastfeeding so I hit a plateau. SO now I'm challenging myself. Between now and 3/5 I want to lose 10 pounds. That will still leave between 15-17 pounds to hit my pre-pregnancy weight. I have NO clothes that are comfortable because I made it a point to get rid of the old heavy clothes a year ago so I'm squeezing into clothes I hate and clothes that don't fit right.... Mon, 31 Jan 2011 22:19:06 EST
