Wed, 25 Jun 2014 12:56:03 EST How Do I Define Myself? Who Am I? My name is Edie. I have been quite diligent about my eating habits most of my life. I am a former Weight Watcher. Shortly after my amputations, I found my weight much harder to maintain and exercise was almost nil. Then I found Sparkpeople and what a blessing that has been.

When I started my journey with Sparkpeople, my height (without legs) was 48" and with my first set of legs was 62". I didn't take measurements. Dont know if my hubby, bless his heart, could find my true wa... Sun, 23 Sep 2012 17:11:17 EST What?! My vegetables have carbs? Eating enough veggies is rarely my problem. Loading up my salad with a multitude of colorful veggies and even fruits sounds and tastes so yummy. Let's have yellow and red peppers, garden lettuce, mushrooms, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers. Let's even toss in a few craisens. Now, let's enter that in our nutrition tracker...OMG! My salad has carbs! Who'd have thought!? OK. Back out the craisens. That will help some. Swiss chard has 11 carbs in a cup? That cannot be!

This nutr... Thu, 1 Sep 2011 13:19:10 EST Quote Worth Sharing Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.
---Lanston Hughes

Wow! I just love that. Thu, 21 Jul 2011 12:11:54 EST NO ONE ELSE--JUST MYSELF For the next blog in the 30 series I was to tell about someone I would like to trade places with for a day. Well, the answer to that is no one. I am happy with my life. Everyone has challenges to deal with, so I will just keep my own. I wouldn't mind, however, reliving a day in my earlier life.

Take this day, for instance. Three sisters, young, thin, happy.

Who would have thought that one would die o... Tue, 12 Jul 2011 12:08:57 EST They're not Animals--They're My Kids Today's blog entry was supposed to be about my favorite animal. What comes to mind immediately is the animal that has always been a part of my life--dogs. They provide unconditional love. It doesn't matter what their human is going through or what their human's mood is. This animal is always there, wagging its tail in happiness, ready to provide love and companionship.

While searching for a picture of my sweet shih tzus, I found this one and thought it appropriate for the seaso... Fri, 1 Jul 2011 14:03:56 EST Nothing Tastes as Good as Thin Feels Several days ago, our friends called to ask if they could come over. We assured them how delighted we would be. It was after lunch but before dinner so we figured we woould eat later. About 5:00PM they called back to say they were finishinng something and would be over as soon as tthey finished their task and dinner. We felt we should still wait with preparations for our dinner. At about 6:30 PM they came over bringing us a large platter of blonde brownies or bar cookies or something. <B... Wed, 29 Jun 2011 13:39:05 EST ANN LIKES RED Some time ago, when my daughter was young, she had a children's book called, "Ann Likes Red." It was such a fun little book and I told her it was written for me because my middle name is Ann and I've always loved the color Red. It was written by Dorothy Seymour.

The book said Ann likes a red dress:

Ann likes red shoes. <img src="http://p... Sat, 18 Jun 2011 17:53:38 EST WEIGHT LOSS INSPIRATION Jillian Michaels is my weight loss inspiration! I wanted to have a big poster of her yelling in my face to put beside my exercise bike. Finding none, I imagined she was there. She has brought new life to many "Biggest Losers" and they all seemed to love her when the series came to a close for the season. I will miss her. Thu, 16 Jun 2011 19:21:14 EST The Closest for the Longest! This picture shows my sister, Lilli Marie, on the left. She is the person to whom I have been the closest for the longest time.
My sister picked my proper name, Edith Ann. She was the one who went back and picked up my petticoat when I lost it walking home from school. (Too embarassing for me.) My Sis had to explain maturation to me. (Too embarassing for Mom.) She was my "big" sister and I always looked up to her. <BR... Thu, 16 Jun 2011 13:56:56 EST Recent Picture & Ten Facts Recent Pic

Ten Facts about Myself:

1. Mon, 13 Jun 2011 13:26:06 EST My Spark Teams--and, a little secret, shhhhhh! For me, and I'm sure for all of you, my spark teams contribute so much to my weight loss success. We pick our spark teams by what we think we will have in common. That's only part of what we get! Oh, yes, we get commonality! And that means so much. Sort of like picking our husbands, I suppose. It's so nice to converse on subjects dear to our hearts with people feeling the same way.

Now, let's see, how about support? My teams (members) support me by their blogs, their respons... Mon, 31 Jan 2011 10:48:21 EST POSITIVELY POSITIVE While riding in the car several weeks ago, I caught my reflection in the side mirror. Instantly I found myself sitting taller, straighter, and even changing my expression into a happy face. The idea came to me that, maybe, if there were a mirror close to my computer desk where I usually start my day, it might help get the day started off on the right foot, so to speak. And maybe would work the same for each of you. Let's try it.

And if that doesn't help, just sing to yourself... Wed, 26 Jan 2011 10:56:10 EST HAPPINESS IS......... Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of meeting another DIC survivor! Just when I was beginning to feel that there was absolutely no one out there that could relate to the condition I am in, God brought this man's name to me through an article in the Mesa paper. He and his wife are wonderful, informative, humorous, happy people. They have made my life richer.

Most of you know that my arms and legs were all amputated to save my life. And so with him. We met at a cafe, and, nee... Sun, 23 Jan 2011 10:24:38 EST Animal Love All the way up to the building my husband reminded me that we could not add any more to "our family." My heart was heavy. "What conditions would I find there?" "What little faces would greet me in a pleading way?" I must be strong! Upon entering the building, we presented our gift of a small bed and asked to see the "adoptables."

To my great relief, there were only three waiting adoption. The conditions were very clean. The caretakers were very kind and answered my questions... Sun, 12 Dec 2010 11:49:10 EST Thank you, Lord. Each morning I sit at my computer with my sparkfriends while dh takes our dog to the dog park. Glancing out the open door in the sunshine of the morning, I see little warblers and finches feeding at the feeders. We have a fountain plugged in and running and the little birds drink and bathe in the water. Beautiful pink roses bloom around the fountain. My heart is filled with happiness at the joy of the day. And I say, "Thank you, Lord." Mon, 8 Nov 2010 10:43:13 EST New Pictures A week or so ago, my two grand daughters were at my house. The oldest, Cortney, does makeup for weddings, etc. The younger is learning a bit about photography. Quite naturally it was decided that Cortney would do my makeup. (Normally, I don't wear much.) And Bailie would take some pictures. What fun we had, giggling and laughing! The results are in my photo page and on my main page. Mon, 23 Aug 2010 17:30:56 EST A Random Act of Kindness One of my goals for this month was to do a random act of kindness and then to blog about it. Well, we are several days into the month and for a while no good idea would come to me. Then three ideas dropped in on me.

A lady who knew me from my job as County Clerk called me asking if I knew anywhere she could get help with registration and school supplies for her eighth grader. After a few calls I was able to refer her to the right source.

We got a letter yesterday from... Sat, 14 Aug 2010 20:02:49 EST T-4 and Counting Tuesday Jerry and I visited our Doc for a discussion on our blood tests. Don't know how many of you have thyroid problems but I suspect quite a few. Doc told me that my T-4 was ZERO and my T-3 just barely made the minimum count. He is upping my medication which I began today. All other tests were good. My cholesterol was 154 which I am so tickled about.

Now, I know why my tests were so good. Do you? They were so good because I am on Sparkpeople, making a lifestyle change,... Thu, 29 Jul 2010 20:30:41 EST The Beautiful Northwest About thirty miles east of Baker, Oregon, nestled deep in a forest of lodgepole pine, lies a tiny town called Sumpter. Reaching Sumpter gives one the feeling of reaching a retreat, or a scout camp, or the home of wildlife where humans do not belong.

However, humans do live and work there sharing their lives with a multitude of bird species, deer, elk, fox, coyotes and an occasional bear. Having one's coffee while watching deer on the lawn is an everyday occurrence. Steller Ja... Wed, 28 Jul 2010 20:22:19 EST July Challenge July has been a lovely month. I was successful in completing a challenge on Animals Lovers Team. My challenge was to have a vegetarian meal three times per week, and I have exceeded that! We have switched to having a main meal at noon and then having fruits and veggies at night. We like this routine and will continue to do so. My breakfasts are always meatless in addition.

I am looking forward to a new challenge for August. Mon, 26 Jul 2010 14:06:12 EST Reflections In my Idaho ranch house we have a room with many windows and no curtains or blinds. It is there that I drink my morning coffee and watch the birds at the feeder. I can see out in most directions. However I can also see my reflection much more than I care to. It was my reflection there that brought me to sparkpeople.
A former WW, it became very difficult to get to Monday evening meetings and my husband actually had to go with me if I were to move at all once I weighed in and sat... Thu, 1 Jul 2010 16:37:08 EST SO HOW DOES MY GARDEN GROW? Dh , attending to my wishes, planted my 4x8 sq. ft. garden in between the showers. He planted tomatoes, squash, cucumber from small plants, and lettuce, onions, raddishes, carrots, swiss chard, spinach, green bush beans, snow peas, early frost peas, beets and yellow crook neck squash from seed. We have two hanging strawberry plants that had berries already on them. We have not had to water yet. Mother Nature is taking care of that!

Not waiting for the garden to grow, yesterday,... Sun, 13 Jun 2010 12:45:43 EST PBR WORLD CUP I may not look like a "country girl," but I have a confession to make. I love the country. I love country music and can tell you the name of most performers when I see them on GAC or RFD. I love the sights, smells, and sounds of country. AND I LOVE TO WATCH BULL RIDING! My dh and two friends drove to Nampa, ID for our annual PBR event. Then, dh and I drove from Idaho to our home in Mesquite so we could attend the PBR Vegas. Well, let me tell you, the steps in the Thomas and Mack Center...
