I came up the acronym T.H.I.N.K to help me each time I am reaching for food, I am hoping this helps me to stop, think, and make a good decision.

T- is it Time to eat? 56
H- am I Hungry? 4
I- am I making an Intentional choice? 345
N- is this Nutritious? 45 <B... Sun, 21 Apr 2013 15:14:48 EST My goal reminder bracelet I had this idea last week while I was shopping at JoAnn's Craft store. I have been looking for a bracelet that said STRENGTH to remind me of my ONE WORD for the year, and I haven't been able to find one yet. So I came up with this idea to help me have a constant reminder of my goals. I have been wearing this goal reminder bracelet daily this week and found that it really helps me think about what I am eating, reminding me to get my workouts in, and overall to make healthy choices.

... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 20:06:04 EST Goals for January! Here are some things I want to work on for the month of January. I have found I am more accountable when I plan my goals each month.

1. Reach 142 pounds. This will get me back to my low of 2012, and get me 7 pounds away from my goal of 135.

2. Complete weeks 1-5 of Jillian's Body Revolution program!

I started her Kick... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 09:45:18 EST Santa must be a Spark member, and new puppy, and other updates! Well, I felt the need to blog, since my last blog was to update my July goals and share my August goals. I have re-done my spark page, re-set my goals, and picked a new ONE WORD for 2013 (Strength!), figured I should get a new blog posted too.

I had a great Christmas this year! Mainly because DH and I were BOTH off for the week and got to relax, unwind, and spend some nice time together and with DD. DD is at a fun age too (5), where Christmas is just so fun (she actually got us... Sun, 30 Dec 2012 18:08:59 EST Goals for August and an update on July's goals July was a pretty good month for meeting goals. I set "easier goals" for July so I could get into the swing of things at my new job and not get down on myself if I wasn't perfect with my fitness plan. I didn't set any goals related to drop so many pounds or inches, just got back to some basics.

248 Drink 8 glasses of water a day 274 This was easy to meet... we had multiple days over 100, and many days over 90! Water with ice was a nice treat on these days! ... Sun, 29 Jul 2012 19:16:06 EST 6 ways to achieve your goals I read a great article that was really motivating in the July/ August 2012 Women's Health Magazine. I tried to find a link to it on line, but couldn't. I wanted to share some of the wisdom from this article. This article shared what Olympic athletes have learned that can help us as we work to achieve our goals. The article was called 6 Pillars of Ultimate Fitness (again found in Women's Health). It's worth the full read if you can get a copy of the magazine.

1. PUSH YOUR LIM... Wed, 25 Jul 2012 21:26:45 EST Healthy changes at the movies theater! DH and I had a date night last night! We went to a new theater (an AMC) to see The Dark Knight Rises on IMAX. Our regular theater doesn't have the IMAX screen, and we wanted the full effect of the movie. The movie was AWESOME, and filled with action. I do have to say that the recent shooting in Denver was on my mind throughout the movie, and I was much more observant of people getting up to go to the bathroom or to re-fil their popcorn. My prayers are with the city and the families who ... Sun, 22 Jul 2012 06:49:38 EST My first 5K with photos! This morning, I ran my first official 5K! It was called the Dash and Splash 5k, and was for my local park district. The great thing is that the race actually ran down my street, and the starting and finish line were only 2 blocks from my house. The race benefited my park district, and the splash part was at the pool! They opened the pool to runners from 7:30 am- 10:30 this morning after their race (before the public would come), and then we got another pool pass for one day for later thi... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 13:09:15 EST Pretty happy with my practice 5K! I signed up for my first 5K race that will be next Sunday. I am pretty excited about this race, and the cool thing is that the start line and finish line is a block away from my house and the race benefits my local park district. I haven't been actively running for some time, so I thought I better get a few practice runs under my belt before race day. Last week I did a practice on the same course the 5K will be and was able to jog 2.5 of the 3 miles and averaged 11 min miles. This was sti... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 09:59:15 EST If I was in maintenance I would be a ROCK STAR... So I weighed in for my 5% challenge today (GO TEDDY BEARS! 174 ) and saw a familiar number 143. While this number doesn't make me angry, it has been around for a while and has become an old friend. I looked back at my weigh -in chart and realized that I have been hovering between 145 and 143 since October. This 9 month streak would be fantastic if I was in maintenance mode, but I am not in maintenance mode yet.

I would love to get under 140, and ideally be hovering be... Sat, 7 Jul 2012 20:43:49 EST Goals for July! Wow! Where did June go??? What a crazy month! Although I did not stay as focused on my June goals as I would have liked, I still logged over 1500 fitness min, still maintained my weight, and still made fitness progress and had some NSV's so I am happy. I wrote some simpler goals for July. I know the next few months I may be really busy getting adjusted at my new job, so I wanted to be realistic with my goals (so I wouldn't get too down on myself if they didn't all get met), but still have... Mon, 2 Jul 2012 19:55:32 EST I signed up for my first 5K today! This is really crazy that this is my first 5K. I spent an entire spark year having personal 5K's out on my treadmill. I would even give them fun little names and post my times, but I never took that next step of trying to jog outside in a actual 5K. I have been wanting to sign up for a REAL 5K for a while, and this one offered NO excuses. Before I would back out because the race would be a 30 min drive, or the race would be in November and I didn't want to deal with possible snow. I would... Fri, 29 Jun 2012 18:05:00 EST Tips for starting a new job? Hi Spark friends!
I am getting excited, I have 2 days left of my current job (and have pretty much finshed up all I need to so I am not sure what I am actually going to do these 2 days), and then I get 2 weeks off with my Daughter! I am looking forward to this time off, and promised her we would squeeze as much fun in these 2 weeks as we normally do in the 4 I typically have off. I am also looking forward to mentally getting ready for my new job on July 1st (see my previous blog). <BR... Tue, 12 Jun 2012 18:00:35 EST A NEW JOB!!! I may need a new spark name... Hi Spark Friends! I have to first say thank you for your support and prayers the past few months. As many of you know, I have been putting myself out there and looking for a new job this year. I started my search in November, getting my resume ready, connecting and networking with LinkedIn, and watching the job boards for openings. My DH has been an AWESOME support through this whole process, helping to re-word my resume (it's been 7 years since I've looked), helping me prep for interview... Mon, 4 Jun 2012 21:13:04 EST Goals for June! May was hit or miss for me, and my goals. In the education field, May is always a busy month, and hard to keep your head afloat. You have the end of one year, trying to get set up to start summer school, graduation, and so much more. Then this May, I have been lucky enough to get a few interviews for new job (one with a serious offer that I am working to finalize- hope to blog soon!), so that put added stress and time crunch into my month of May. I didn't do great reaching my May goals, b... Sat, 2 Jun 2012 07:55:56 EST Goals for May! May is my favorite month! It starts getting consistently warmer and nice outside. I get to celebrate twice this month, for mothers day and my birthday! And, although May is crazy at work, I really love being a part of the graduation ceremonies for my students each year. Here are some of the goals I have set for myself for May.

319 Workout 28/31 days (at least 20 min each day to make it count)

417 Complete weeks 1-4 of the Brazilian Butt Lift work... Sat, 5 May 2012 08:01:30 EST Batch Cooking! I spent the morning batch cooking! I have never really tried this, but am very excited about having healthy dinners and lunches (DH and I brown bag it every day) ready for the week. I have one meal going in the crock pot right now, and another in my oven. I will have one dish for lunch today, and the other for dinner, and then save the rest (made -10 servings of each) for lunches throughout the week.
190 341

I busted out my Spark People Cook Book (LOVE ... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 11:42:10 EST Recap of my goals for March, New goals for April! March was a good month! I met many of my goals, completed my 8 week workout program, got more consistent with tracking my food, and ROCKED my fitness minutes! Here is a recap of the goals I set for March and how I did:

248 Complete weeks 5-8 of X-Factor:ST! Found this workout program really fun and enjoyed that it was only 4 days a week giving me options for other workouts on the off days. I liked the sequence training (ST) of this program, where it got progressively ... Sat, 31 Mar 2012 10:04:13 EST Spring 5% Challenge Assignments 1-3 The spring 5% challenge starts next week! I love the extra motivation these 5% challenges give me, I love the teamwork and support that is available during the 5% challenge! I LOVE being a teddy bear 174 , this will be my 5th 5% challenge! I am hoping this is the challenge that gets me to my goal weight! I have 5.5 pounds to reach my goal weight of 137, and am ready to ROCK! To prepare for the challenge, we have been given small assignments.

Assignment 1:
What is... Sat, 10 Mar 2012 09:50:28 EST The best work program you've never heard of!! X-Factor:ST OK, I first need to start by saying that I DO NOT work for this program, I AM NOT affiliated with this program! Just impressed by this workout system, really enjoying it, and wanting to spread the spark to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced DVD fitness plan. I have never seen a mid-day infomercial on this program like I have for P90X, Supreme 90 or Insanity (and yes, I would put this workout program in this intensity category without the high cost), I just spotted it at Walmart ... Fri, 9 Mar 2012 19:30:15 EST Goals for March and a recap of my February goals. WOW, March already! That is crazy, where did I loose January and February??? It has been a mild winter here so far (thank God) and I have hope that March will bring some signs of spring. This is the time of year I get very busy at work... planning for 8th grade trip and graduation, getting the budget and class lists ready for next year, getting class lists done for summer school. I will have to stay focused on my goals, or work will get the best of me (leaving me too tired to workout, or p... Sat, 3 Mar 2012 07:46:11 EST What is your favorite 300 calorie meal? Hi Spark friends! Thank you to those who encouraged me to start tracking my food again as a great way to break a 12 week plateau. I am learning a lot about my calorie intake through this tool, and finding my slippery spots that get me in trouble. One thing I learned was that I wasn't saving enough calories for the end of the day. I would have enough for dinner, but not for any evening snacks (even healthy ones). So I am trying something new for March. In addition to tracking my food, I... Thu, 1 Mar 2012 18:44:06 EST Help with a Plateau-I only have 13 weeks to loose my last 6 pounds So last year I set a goal to loose 33 pounds by the time I turned 34. This would take me from a high of 170 to a nice, low, in the middle of a healthy BMI 137. 192 And 13 weeks left till the middle of May sounds like enough time to loose my last 6 pounds.... why am I so worried then....

Well, I have been on an official plateau for the last 12 weeks, weighing between 146-144 since Halloween, and with only 13 weeks left, I am a little worried that time is running out. ... Sun, 19 Feb 2012 21:40:36 EST Goals for February and a re-cap of January's goals January went so fast, I really can't believe it's over already. Here is how I did on my goals for January:
248 Complete weeks 5-9 of C25K- I finished the C25K program on my treadmill this month. I finally did it, I jogged 3.1 miles without a walking break! 244

248 Complete all of the January Jump Start Challenge workouts! Thanks Coach Nicole- great new workouts.

248 Complete 4 days a week of Ripped in 30 (finish weeks ... Thu, 2 Feb 2012 20:41:31 EST Ice Skating is great calorie burner! Well, I haven't been on ice skates in 9 years, so I wasn't sure how I would do today. It's not like I was a frequent ice skater before that either. My 4 1/2 year old daughter was invited to a birthday party at the ice rink. She's never been on skates and wouldn't even consider going out without me (nor would I consider sending her out without going). I put her in snow pants (extra padding if she fell) and out we went. Know how some things are like riding a bike... well, I did fine. I c... Sun, 29 Jan 2012 20:14:04 EST I met my first fitness goal of 2012! (3 weeks early!) This past December, I started developing my fitness goals for 2012. I set the following fitness goals for myself:

315 Complete the Couch 2 5K program, ending with the ability to run for 3.1 miles straight.

320 Complete another round of Insanity (actually finish this time!)

344 Complete another round of Jillian's 30 Day Shred and Ripped in 30.

319 Complete another round of Supreme 90!

84</e... Fri, 20 Jan 2012 22:01:57 EST Anyone try the Weider X-Factor:ST program? 5% challenge (Go Teddy Bears! 174 ) blog week is in full swing. Here is my 3rd blog for the week.

This Christmas, I picked up the Weider X-Factor:ST program...any one else ever try this or hear of it? I can't even find a Spark Team related to this series of DVD's. It looks great, and I will be starting it in February (anyone want to join me?) It was about $40 at Walmart, and comes with 12 DVD's each about 40 min, push up handles, a fitness schedule, and a nutrition pr... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 19:39:39 EST A shout out to the Spark People cookbook! It's blog week for the 5% challenge, and we are supposed to talk about habits we are changing. I have spent the last year really working on my habit of exercising and making it a part of my daily routine. This year I want to make eating better and cooking healthier a habit as well.

I received the Spark People cookbook for Christmas, and can't say enough! The first few chapters teaches how to eat, how to cook, and provide a wealth of information of how food works in our bodies ... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 21:19:11 EST Overcoming a Fear... This is "blog week" for my 5% winter challenge (GO TEDDY BEARS! 174 ), we are encouraged to blog every day and to read and comment on up to 10 blogs that have been written. This blog challenge is always the hardest for me, as it requires something that I don't always have... time. Although I love that blog week lets me get to know my spark friends better, and my teddy bear team.... and I really enjoy the wonderful comments, support, and encouragement that are left on my blog...this... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 08:31:51 EST My goals for January I am excited to be kicking off a new year with new goals. I establish goals for the year, and then to break them into smaller, more manageable goals, I set smaller goals for focus on for each month. I have found that this really works to help me stay focused and to be present each month as I work on my goals. Posting my monthly goals for my Spark friends also helps me stay accountable. Here are my goals for January:

315 Complete weeks 5-7 of Couch 2 5K on my treadmil... Sun, 1 Jan 2012 15:01:55 EST WHOO HOO! Non Scale Victories are the best! Can I first say this 244 244 244

Hope I haven't confused anyone....It's not the New Year yet... so I hope my screaming and happy dancing hasn't confused anyone.

My day didn't start out this way. I had my weekly weigh-in for the winter 5% challenge (GO TEDDY BEARS! 174 ) After being the same weight for the last 8 weeks, the scaled moved the wrong way... up 1.5 pounds. Guess I went a little over board on Christmas yummies.... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 14:57:50 EST My One Word for 2012! I started this last year after visiting the website and hearing about this concept on KLOVE radio. Last year I used the word Intentional to guide my goals and my way of life. It became a very powerful concept in my life, and I made a lot of progress towards my goals, progress in my life, and a deeper relationship with my family.

I have spent the last few weeks thinking about a new word that could help me focus my goals for 2012. This year, I chose the the word Pr... Wed, 28 Dec 2011 19:52:38 EST A new "one word" for next year? Last year during January, I was listening to KLOVE radio and they were talking about picking just one word to guide you for the year. This idea comes from (I suggest that you look at this, having my one word changed my life this year!). At first I thought this was crazy... REALLY, ONE word can be a powerful motivator? One word can keep you focused on your goals? One word can help you define how you behave? I wasn't sure this was going to work for me, but tried it anyway. <... Wed, 7 Dec 2011 19:13:06 EST December Goals and 5% challenge rewards! Well, November was a very flat month for reaching goals that I set. I forgot how hard it can be with food from Halloween through Thanksgiving. I also forgot how hard it is to stay motivated to workout after the Day light savings time switch. I found I was tired by 5:30 pm, just because it was so dark out. I won't beat myself up for November, but I really want to have a great December to make up for this (and to ROCK In the Winter 5% challenge). In November, I didn't loose any inches (fir... Sat, 3 Dec 2011 18:52:24 EST 5% challenge assignment 5- know your numbers This is a good assignment for me, as I get ready to begin the Winter 5% challenge. I typically don't track my calories, I keep a mental note of what I am eating, and I try to eat with intention (only when hungry, stop when full, making good choices about how I fuel my body). I spent 2 1/2 year tracking everything I ate, and found that it seemed to make me obsessive about food, thinking about food all the time, and eating just to hit a number and not because my body was hungry. I do know th... Fri, 25 Nov 2011 22:14:41 EST Winter 5% Challenge Assignments #1- 4 I have joined the winter 5% challenge group, and am hoping to be placed back on the wonderful Teddy Bear team! This will be my 4th or 5th 5% challenge, and I am hoping this is the one that gets to me goal weight (since I only have 7 pounds to go)! I love the way this challenge helps me to stay motivated, accountable, and have the great support of team members to help me reach my goals. I have already updated my Spark page to get ready for the new challenge. I changed my background and colo... Fri, 25 Nov 2011 08:23:34 EST My fitness goals for 2012! (Why wait for January 1st) So far in 2011, I have completed so many of my fitness goals that I set. I even reached some fitness goals for things I never thought I would even attempt as a goal (like walking 2- 1/2 marathons, averaging 15 min. miles throughout!) I wanted to start thinking about what my fitness goals would be for the new year. Here is what I have come up with so far.

In 2012 I will:

319 Complete another round of Supreme 90, using heavier weights (8-10 pounds). Time co... Thu, 24 Nov 2011 08:55:52 EST Insanity Fit Test 2- I'm making progress! Today I completed the 2nd fit test in the Insanity workout program. I am modifying the program a bit, by not completing it daily, but rather 2-3 days per week, and then mixing in other types of workouts. I am much more motivated by this new schedule and have more energy to get an Insanity workout in on the days I don't work.

Given the modifications I made to the program I am still really happy with the progress I have made so far. You get 60 seconds per exercise and then a quick... Sat, 5 Nov 2011 12:56:42 EST Making some changes before motivation drops Well, I am going to make some changes to my workout plan for the rest of this month. I was planning on completing Insanity for 4 days a week, but was feeling my motivation dropping. First, I really like the Insanity workout program, and have seen some nice results already from starting it. Insanity is a great workout, but also demands a lot of energy and time (more than any other workout plan I have followed). I have been finding that I just don't have it in me at the end of working a lon... Thu, 3 Nov 2011 06:01:23 EST Reviewing my goals for October and setting new goals for November I have found great success in breaking down my long term goals into small monthly goals to help me stay more focused and stay on track.

Here is a re-cap of how I've done on my goals for October:
228 Goal- Loose 4 pounds ending at 143- I have lost 2.5 this month, and ended at 144.5. I was really ok with this, especially when paired with my inches lost.

248 Goal- loose 3 inches from total body measurements- LOST 4 inches! Whoo Hoo!!

... Sun, 30 Oct 2011 20:22:36 EST I've lost 26.5 inches in 6 months!!! (and a few other victories!) Today is my 6th month of consecutive exercise!!! I have been working out since April 30, and cannot believe the AWESOME results I have accomplished from my body!! It just goes to show if you mix a little sweat with a lot of intentional actions you can make big changes in a short amount of time. 320 7
Here are a few wonderful victories I have accomplished in the past 6 months!

192 Weight- I have gone from 160 pounds (which was still down 10 from... Sun, 30 Oct 2011 20:02:10 EST I did it!!! Down 25 pounds AND a normal BMI! 236 104 192

Today was one of the best weigh in's of my journey!!! I finally have a normal BMI!!!!
I started my journey at 170 pounds, with a BMI at 29.2. This was in the Over category, only .8 points to pushing me into the Obese category. This was about a year and a half ago. I had just lost my dad to stage 4 colon cancer, and spent the 18 month prior to that very inactive, and eating a lot (to deal with my sadness of watching my dad battle). ... Fri, 21 Oct 2011 06:07:44 EST Insanity Fit Test 1! and there's an APP for that! I was hoping to start Insanity October 1, but some medical conditions slowed my workouts down the past two weeks. I am still going to have to listen to how my body feels each day, but last night I felt fine and thought it was a good time to tackle Insanity. The good news is that I made it through with no problems. What a hard workout though (even just the fit-test had my number). For anyone who doesn't know about Insanity, I suggest googling it. Insanity is a high intensity 60 day cardio ... Sun, 16 Oct 2011 07:54:01 EST Back to the Doctor I saw my primary care doctor yesterday for a regular physical and a flu shot. She did want to review my CT scan last week and talk about the abdominal pain I have been having. They did find a cyst on my ovary and a small kidney stone (both on my right side) in the CT scan. I was going to a follow up ultrasound done in 8 weeks to re-look at the cyst. Yesterday, I still had blood in my urine and now my white blood count was elevated (this is new from last week). I still am having some pro... Tue, 11 Oct 2011 07:08:57 EST Dr. results are in, and a week in review I have had to limit my workouts this week, I was having abdominal pain and needed a CT scan on Wednesday. Called the doctor yesterday to see if the results were in. Turns out I have a very small kidney stone that they feel I should be able to pass with limited discomfort, and a cyst on my ovary. They are not sure that either would have caused the pain I was in though. I still need to follow up with another ultra sound in 10 weeks to make sure the cyst isn't growing or anything. When I ha... Sat, 8 Oct 2011 08:11:40 EST A slow and steady streak Ok, that would be funny! Most streakers that you see at ball games are running so fast across the stadium grass and trying to avoid getting caught by security. Wouldn't it be funny if they streaked slow and steady!

Well I am not "streaking"... I have an exercise streak going! I am at day 155 (that's almost 6 months of consecutive exercise). I have been having kidney pains/ headaches the past few days, which has limited my ability to complete my "typical" workout. Plus Doctor sa... Sun, 2 Oct 2011 19:02:24 EST Kidney pain and a bump in my plan Well, if you saw my blog yesterday, you know I am coming off an Awesome September of great fitness min, great weight loss, wonderful inches loss. I was looking forward to a ROCKING October and starting my new workout plan: Insanity.

Well for the past few months I have been getting extreme pain (only 3 times total, the last was Labor Day weekend). This is the worst pain I have had since child birth and feels like someone is trying to cut out from inside my body with a knife. This... Sat, 1 Oct 2011 18:19:34 EST Reviewing my September Goals and Writing my October Goals September was a GREAT month for meeting goals! I had amazing weight loss and fantastic Non Scale Victories this month. I am hoping the momentum from September can carry me into an Outstanding October! So glad that the fall 5% challenge has start back up- GO TEDDY BEARS! 174 as I know the support I get from my team will also help me carry on success through the next month.
Here is a re-cap of my goals for September:

248 "Loose 3 pounds"- I went from 1... Fri, 30 Sep 2011 20:11:49 EST A new best time for personal 5K This was my 11 th personal 5K that I have run. Since last year, I have run a personal 5K each month, typically on my treadmill. The last two I have ventured outside to enjoy the beautiful fall weather we have been having. I also wanted to practice running outside since another goal I have is to jog an actual 5K before the year ends. I give each fun names to make them more entertaining, this one I named "September to Remember." In honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11/01.

I j... Sun, 25 Sep 2011 14:39:30 EST
