MRLDCTYGRL's SparkPeople Blog MRLDCTYGRL's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Relationships are HARD. So this will probably be long. Here's the short version: Being stuck in a valley for a season that drags on longer than anyone is comfortable with turns some people into unpleasant versions of themselves. And I'm not talking about me.

I just posted a cartoon on FB about how losing weight doesn't seem to be working so I'm going to focus on getting taller. It's silly, it's a cartoon, and hey, if I was 6'5" instead of 5'6", my BMI would almost be healthy! So OF COURSE some "helpfu... Sat, 7 Feb 2015 17:07:20 EST Yup, retaining water! Those 8 lbs? They're baaack... and they brought a couple of friends. Not surprising really, considering ALL.THE.THINGS. I ate on Superbowl Sunday and all the SALT in all the things... which I didn't even bother logging, because, really.

Going back to the pain specialist this afternoon. Hopefully the new meds will work. I'll keep you posted. Tue, 3 Feb 2015 17:00:25 EST Lost 6 lbs since Thursday!? And new pain meds suck. :( I dunno. Weirdest thing. I'm not going to hold my breath that they're gone for good, seems like a lot for no good reason when I check my food and water and sleep history, not much has changed.

Saw the pain specialist yesterday, and it went really well. I was quite excited to leave with a prescription for something much stronger than the Tylenol with Codeine that I've been barely coasting on. It took some phoning around to find a place that had them in stock, but we got them fill... Sat, 31 Jan 2015 16:49:46 EST Lost 1.2 lbs... to be exact, and hey, so they're the 1.2 I put on last week, I'll still call it good.

Also getting a much shorter haircut today, I'll post some before and after pics. I do eventually want to grow it out again, but it's just too much to manage right now to get mediocre results, and so it spends too much time in a ponytail, and the breakage is getting out of hand. Thu, 29 Jan 2015 16:27:20 EST Today was a better day. My therapy session was canceled today due to my therapist getting a flat tire, but we'll do a double session tomorrow, so we'll work it out.

In other news, we met with our Senior Pastor tonight to talk through some challenges we've been having. Our congregation has totally outgrown what was a pretty organic "pastoral care" model based on relationships. It's just time to hire someone to keep track of people and touch base once in awhile. I was a little anxious, but it went really... Wed, 28 Jan 2015 00:22:27 EST Can I PLEASE have a "do-over" of the past three years?! So this past summer, my friend Bob asked me to work for him as an office manager to run his phones, do his books, make all his appointments, manage all the billing and network with his accountant for payroll etc (this seemed like it would be awesome because I could work from home, which I really needed with all the wedding stuff and the fibromyalgia coming back).

I've known Bob casually for about 6 years because I'm friends with one of his daughters, and in the most bizarre of twis... Sun, 25 Jan 2015 23:43:34 EST Unsupervised! So my daughter is my PT caregiver 3 days/week, and my hubby works from home 3 days/week, so they generally overlap a day on Mondays, which allows both of them to get a lot more done.

Well this week my hubby got called into work three days, and my daughter and her hubby have a terrible cold/flu thing that is going around and is really serious. Since I have almost no immune system from the steroids, it's not ok to be dragging boogers into the house.

We had backup planned ... Thu, 22 Jan 2015 23:48:05 EST What the HECK happened to HER!? Jalapenos, that's what.

This post is so long overdue. Let's see. When last we met our intrepid heroine, she was working like a crazy person to pay for her daughter's wedding at a CPA firm. The CPA firm got sold, and she started working from home for a friend's irrigation business as an office manager.

This went well until the end of June, when she started developing ovarian cysts. BEWARE, LADIES WITH PCOS... if you get it under control and your A1C becomes acceptab... Sat, 17 Jan 2015 22:13:46 EST Where the heck has she BEEN? I've been crazy. We bought a house last fall. There's blog posts in here back there about the whole deal, mainly, and then it was DONE, and we were MOVING, and it got too crazy to keep up with my life, much less report on it and record what I was eating.

And then I went back to work, and for six weeks I didn't get paid. And so I started looking for other work, because I can't afford the gas for a hobby that's supposed to help pay for my daughter's wedding in August.

... Sat, 3 May 2014 17:02:39 EST Anniversary Post! OK, so it's been awhile since I posted any kind of milestone or progress report regarding my weight loss. It occurred to me today that this is Labor Day weekend, and therefore, this weekend marks the 1 year anniversary of the Low-Carb Plan. In very recent history, I've hit a plateau with my weight loss, probably due to it RAINING STRESS all over my life with everything that's been going on with going back to work in January, losing Dad, 2 months in Winnipeg OFF PLAN ENTIRELY, coming home to a... Sat, 31 Aug 2013 20:47:00 EST Is officially official and stuff. Sorta. So we applied for the mortgage today, locked in the rate, which, at 4.75% is better than it could have been. With an FHA mortgage, we're locked into private mortgage insurance for the lifetime of the loan, so we will need to save our pennies and improve our credit ASAP so we can go through the whole getting a new conventional mortgage as soon as we have 10-20% down and a high enough score to qualify so we can save a bundle on that PMI to the tune of about $380/month.

Then we took ... Thu, 22 Aug 2013 01:01:09 EST What a lovely wedding And I am SO glad that it's over. Because I've had my wedding cake gumpaste flower stuff out all over the dining room table for two weeks, and I'm sick of looking at it. My hands are cramping from kneading fondant and rolling stuff, and I'm just feeling very DONE with it all for awhile. So away it goes until October when I'm making a much simpler cake for one of my daughter's friends. I was very happy with how this one turned out, it was a HUGE stretch of my skill set, the bride was thrill... Sat, 17 Aug 2013 23:52:28 EST Prayer Request! OK, it's a doozy...

I got the check from the lawyer in Winnipeg for my inheritance from Dad's estate. Which is fantastic news, really! However, I got some stinky news when I took it to the bank... I'm in the US, and Winnipeg is in Canada, and one would think, in this world of inter-connectedness and web-based finances that this would be easier, but APPARENTLY NOT. Apparently, because the check is over $5,000 (and yes, I do seriously realize how messed up it is to be complaining ... Fri, 16 Aug 2013 01:49:05 EST Got woken up by a phone call from a lawyer today... Not generally on my list of favorite ways to start the day. HOWEVER, this one was calling to tell me that all my paperwork was in order and that they're cutting my inheritance check today or tomorrow and it will be sent via courier!

This, right on the heels of learning last night that the seller accepted our offer on the townhouse we really REALLY want! Inspection is Friday, the loan for the mortgage is in process, and we're really super SUPER THRILLED!

Closing is Sept... Tue, 13 Aug 2013 20:10:18 EST We're buying a HOUSE, people. Apparently, there's not QUITE enough going on in my life at the moment. So we're going to buy a house, as soon as it is feasible and possible and manageable to do so. Which, in a delightfully BIZARRE way, I'm very excited about, because I've NEVER lived in a house that wasn't rented. I stayed with my Grandparents, and they owned their house, but it's not the same thing.

So Sunday, we met with a realtor to look at a few places, and she got us very lost, started an argument betwee... Sun, 4 Aug 2013 01:48:51 EST HalfWAYYYY! OK, so I'm OFFICIALLY over halfway to the finish line with this thing! I've been consistently under 204 for a WEEK. Today was a new level at 202.4, it's the first time I'd broken through the line at 203. So it's time to BLOG ABOUT IT. I'm going to get pretty specific about some major renovations underway here, so if you're a "TMI" kind of person, you may want to skip this one. ;)

I started this journey at 268 in June of 2012, struggled down to 256 by the time I had a physical ... Tue, 30 Jul 2013 01:19:41 EST Struggling. I'm struggling a LOT since I came home. The weight is coming off, which I'm happy about, I've actually recovered from the gain of those two months off plan already, as far as weight loss is concerned. Most of which has been accomplished by eating one real meal a day. Because I'm struggling to have an appetite and having real issues finding ANYTHING appealing, and it's net even that I want all the wrong stuff or whatever, I just can't be bothered to figure out and then fix and then actually... Tue, 16 Jul 2013 21:28:56 EST I'm HOME! Finally! I got home last night, and of course my weight is up, but only by 7.5 lbs, which, considering I was SO off-plan for TWO FULL MONTHS, isn't THAT terrible.

Dad's house sold, the paperwork was approved by the province in time to meet the terms of the house sale, and now we just wait for the money, which will probably arrive sometime in August. I drove home from Winnipeg, leaving Saturday afternoon stopped overnight in Grand Forks, ND and Bozeman, MT on the way, and peele... Tue, 2 Jul 2013 16:11:10 EST Well THAT was less fun than we thought. And then things got ROUGH. So long over due blog post. Yep, I'm still kicking. The short version is working in a call center where they penalize you for taking time off to be sick encourages people to come in when they're sick. Which spreads the sick around. Which is less amusing than headlice. So I was in a not insignificant amount of trouble for attendance when I caught every bug around the place over and over again and I got the sinus infection from hell that led to the new discovery of yet ANOTHER medication th... Sun, 19 May 2013 00:24:05 EST Still On Track! I've Missed You Guys! Just haven't been around here much lately. I seem to be doing better in the last week about tracking my food, but even when I wasn't tracking I was still eating on plan, and I'm still losing, so it's all good.

I'm still reading other people's blogs, but I'm pretty wiped out a lot of the time so it's hard to come up with a constructive or encouraging comment sometimes. Work is really kicking my patootie when it comes to managing my energy and schedule.

Couple of high po... Wed, 27 Mar 2013 00:48:16 EST WHAT a TRIP! New pics! Um, so I went through my closet awhile ago and got rid of some stuff that I don't can't wear anymore, and then some life happened and I gave those clothes to my daughter to go through to see if there was anything SHE wanted to salvage, and it turned out there was a few pieces here and there... one of which was the pair of khaki pants that I'm now wearing in the 2nd picture down on the left side of my SparkPage. Now those SAID 20 on the tag, and they were never exactly TIGHT (snug in the wais... Sun, 3 Mar 2013 23:58:50 EST One... moar... sleep... Until MY BIRTHDAY! And my last day in this seemingly unending streak of finishing training and working the new schedule! All I want for my birthday is to SLEEP IN TUESDAY!

So about my birthday... I do tend to make a biggish deal out of it. Birthdays used to SUUUCK because I grew up super poor and my parents couldn't afford to do much other than bake a cake and have my cousins over. And eventually, even OTHER people's birthdays began to suck, because my closest cousin had relati... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 01:03:40 EST Buh-Bye, Weekends... possibly FOREVER. So this weekend we wrapped up a bunch of loose ends and tried to take it as mellow as possible, because I am unlikely to enjoy another weekend "off" until probably the fall, if then. My new days off will be Tues and Weds, which is actually kinda nice because I won't have to take time off for doctor's appointments or whatever, but to facilitate the switch, I will be working straight through the next seven days before I get my first "weekend" off. I still get to come home at night, and life w... Sun, 10 Feb 2013 22:49:34 EST Another week? Wow. So yet another week has gone by and not enough blogging from me. What a WEEK. My brain is full! And yet, they continue to cram MORE and MORE COMPLICATED stuff into my head. But I can now say with confidence that the WorldMark by Wyndham Vacation Planning Call Center is worth sitting on hold for, since we have WAY more options to help you get into wherever you're trying for than you do online. If it's straightforward and available, by all means, book it yourself, and save yourself the tim... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 15:22:28 EST Kinda wiped out! New week starts tomorrow morning! So life carries on. My friend who had the stroke was released from the hospital on Friday and is finally back home with his family, though he is in for a long recovery still. My daughter is still staying there to help manage the kids for the time being, since he can't be home alone yet.

I took my daughter and her Maid of Honor to our very first Bridal Expo together, and it was really great. The three of us got lots of ideas and connected with a few cool vendors, watched a fashio... Sun, 27 Jan 2013 23:08:27 EST What a WEEK. Well, returning to work in fast forward has been just as challenging as I thought it might be. "Drinking from a firehose" is a phrase we used a fair bit this week, while being introduced to a really overwhelming amount of information in a very short time, but it's going well.

Thank God my husband is motivated and willing to cook dinner, he's even progressed beyond the basics like pizza and spaghetti to a point where he's actually cooking like I would (look in the pantry and frid... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 15:00:08 EST Long day has been LONG! Good grief this day is just CRAWLING by. And yet the week ahead is likely to be a big BLUR... so I'll give you the lowdown on the schedule ahead in case I fall off the face of the internet...

Next weekend I have two brides stopping by for cake tasting, one on Saturday @ 3, the other on Sunday at 1:30. The Saturday bride has no qualms about my talent, but wants to taste stuff because she and her groom can't decide what flavors to get, so I made seven different flavors of cake toda... Sun, 13 Jan 2013 22:19:31 EST Preparing for liftoff... So there's a clock counting down in my head. It feels very much like the new job starting Monday is going to be some turning point or milestone that I haven't named or been looking for, but it's approaching, and it'll be here SOON. 40

My last couple of blog entries have had a lit of nerves in them, and this doesn't feel like that anymore. Thank you all so much for your support over the past weeks while I struggle with good days and bad days and figuring out how to h... Fri, 11 Jan 2013 11:10:57 EST ANXIOUS! I am anxious! And irritable. 24

I think it's the job starting Monday. I should hear Thursday if I've passed the background check and the drug test (neither of which I'm REALLY worried about) and it's bugging me... I'm basically acting as though it's in the bag, going through my wardrobe and getting the insulated lunch thingies together... getting the house ready to have me around a little less to "manage" stuff (not that I execute much, but I delegate!).

... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 17:32:11 EST I Got the Job! So I start Jan 14th, full-time with full benefits, in training for five weeks and then working the late and weekend shift (10am-7:30 and 8am-5pm) in some combination five days a week. I'll have two days off in a row every week, but no idea where to expect them to fall, at least with the almost guaranteed weekend shifts, I can be reasonably sure I won't be fighting ll the other working parents at Costco, and I'll still be able to get Dr, visits in on those weekdays off for the foreseeable fut... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 20:15:53 EST So much going on! My scale if officially STUCK. I've been bouncing between 225-228 since the 4th of December. So it's been a MONTH, and the tape measure is "inching" its way OUT again too. I tried fooling my metabolism with a high calorie day, and it didn't work. I did finally ditch the bloated water weight (about 3.5 lbs) from the medication refill issue, but it's been up and down and revisiting the same three pounds ever since.

I'm convinced it's the lack of exercise that is the culprit. It is... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 16:07:33 EST Deliberately Overate Today... So I'm finally losing the water weight, and things are progressing well... but I've noticed a significant slowdown in my energy levels lately, and I checked my Caloric Intake vs. Calories Burned chart, and I've been really undereating for even just my BMR as far as calories go. So maybe some of this slowdown is my metabolism adjusting to less caloric intake, and I decided to bump it up today to shake things loose a little. I didn't eat anything off-plan, and I'm actually still in my carbs r... Sat, 29 Dec 2012 00:38:30 EST I DID IT!!! So I was feeling very "meh" over Christmas this year... So much of what makes my Christmas mood come out is related to food... butter tarts, shortbread, sugar cookies, hot chocolate, planning the giant feast of either prime rib or birdzilla... and our Christmas tree started producing alarming flashes and sections of light would totally blow out... so it hasn't been lit up for several days... I wasn't UNHAPPY, just wasn't "feeling it".

Christmas morning it FINALLY started to kick i... Thu, 27 Dec 2012 01:29:25 EST I'm feeling a little "Sunrise, Sunset" today... The last three (?) days (week? two?) have felt rather like a lot of smaller choppy days crammed together over a long period of time, I'm all "skewed up" you might say.

Going from this highly active phase of 2-3 dance classes/week plus 3 hot yoga classes last month to dance plus 3 rehab/chiro sessions a week, to tweaking my back (in rehab! what's up with THAT?!) and being COMPLETELY BENCHED for awhile until things heal up, then the Christmas Season is upon us (for which I had an Ac... Sun, 23 Dec 2012 00:51:36 EST New X-Rays... Show no new damage to my lower back! Praise the Lord! 104

So it's just a flare, something tweaked, and I needed to back off and rest for a bit. It will probably be the New Year before I'm up to much of anything other than the (even less than usual) activity that surrounds the holidays,

So I'll just have to get busy being bored, and hopefully my weight loss doc will have something that may help with cravings and appetite issues on Friday. Wed, 19 Dec 2012 16:14:46 EST Prayer request for my back please! That's the short version. And God knows the details, so unless you want them, you can skip the rest of this and just pray for healing from the base of my skull to the base of my pelvis, and I thank you very much.

So here's the details, because some people on the boards have asked...

My neck has been a problem child for as long as I can remember. Once upon a time some enterprising chiro and I traced all my history allll the way back to a vicious little girl who shoved m... Mon, 17 Dec 2012 00:31:38 EST I really wish my scale would budge. I really really do. Just one pound, in the right direction of course.

Since starting this chapter of my life, within a very short period of time, not only did I see major movement on the scale, but my measuring tape started flying too as soon as I started to feel well enough to add some exercise into the equation. My dr says she is convinced that I will continue to lose weight by only sticking to the eating plan as long as I'm faithful to the eating plan, but I'm getting carb-cra... Fri, 14 Dec 2012 19:49:34 EST DANGIT, I hurted myself. I'm not sure exactly WHEN or exactly HOW, or if this is just part of the process, but OW.

Chiro yesterday was a decent adjustment, but rehab tweaked something and the shooting pain through my lower back and down through my hips and legs really panicked me, and I wound up crying (which I hate even when I'm crying all by myself, but crying IN PUBLIC suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks!).

So I was back today for a checkup/adjustment and Dr put me on REST REST. Which isn't the same as ... Thu, 13 Dec 2012 15:55:25 EST Old Intro Text (I want my intro to be a little more "chatty" since I realized it's the first thing I read on someone else's page, and if they want a ton of detail, they can read my blog posts!)

Updated Dec 3rd: First Mini Goal MET! (Down 25 lbs by Nov 30th!) That was 10% of my total starting weight. Feels really great! I'm wearing size 16 jeans now (down from 20) and bought a dress Saturday for Medal Ball (Ballroom dancing celebration) that was an 18W (down from a 24W in June!). Feeling pre... Tue, 11 Dec 2012 01:37:06 EST My cure for feeling kinda stuck... Did a little homework and realized that I really "re-started" this journey in June when my Dr told me I was 268 lbs. So I updated my ticker. While I was at it, I changed my goal. I've seen several other ladies on here who have faced similar challenges to mine and look fit and healthy and happy at much less total body weight than I had set as my original goal.

I don't know what it is about realizing REALLY how far I've come in the last 6 months, or about setting a goal that is s... Tue, 11 Dec 2012 00:46:12 EST Christmas Miracle Cookies Made THESE today!!!

Peanut Butter Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies!

l.asp?recipe=2313565

Small, but AMAZING. I made mine with the Kirkland Bacon Bits from Costco and some chopped milk chocolate kisses we were given (I will NOT buy chocolate, I have ZERO self control!)

6 carbs each, which means 2 with an 8 oz glass of milk for 23 carbs. Sure I'm over for the day, but what a way to go! SO much... Sat, 8 Dec 2012 23:34:41 EST CHRISTMAS TREE DAY!

We got our tree up today! I still need to do the rest of the house, but I'm happy to fiddle with that on my own as the mood strikes.

Then we ate dinner while watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and some things just are different when you see them as an adult... pretty much EVERYONE was a HUGE JERK to Rudolph and the elf who wanted to be a dentist, until they ran away from home, met a psychotic dog... Sat, 8 Dec 2012 21:42:03 EST Feeling drained today. I had a great blog post all ready to go day before yesterday with all the fun details about Medal Ball and the feedback we got (which was good!) and as I went to post it, the system kacked and I lost the whole thing. HATE THAT.

So now I try to remember to copy the whole thing and then I can just paste it into a new window if it happens again.

Anyway, yesterday was a very long day in traffic, I spent almost the whole day driving my daughter to an interview, my hubby to a... Fri, 7 Dec 2012 13:19:28 EST Rhumba at Medal Ball Today! Here's a little video clip of my hubby and I at the Arthur Murray Medal Ball today. :) Pics to come in a bit. (I'm the one in the purple dress!) Sun, 2 Dec 2012 23:11:18 EST NEW JEANS!!! WELL. Full day was full. Got a manicure, did my first rehab/chiro stint today, and BOUGHT JEANS. Size SIXTEEN JEANS, thankyouverymuch! Down from a size TWENTY! 9

Then I came home, took three inches off the length of the new jeans, took three inches of my size 18 Old Navy Divas, took the waistband on those in two inches, and took my Christmas party dress from last year in FOUR inches from the shoulderblades to the hip (could have done more, but I'm happy with it a littl... Sat, 1 Dec 2012 00:43:43 EST MINI GOAL REACHED! I did it! YAY for me!!!

I'm now officially 25 lbs lighter than when I started this on Sept 10th!!!

That's 10% of my original body weight RELEASED.

Mostly in my thighs and back and waist (all the places I NEED it to go from!) according to the inches lost.

New jeans, here I come!!! Wed, 28 Nov 2012 19:16:56 EST TG Report and the aftermath... and the doctor! So, Thanksgiving was wonderful! We had two other families join us with whom we're very close, and it was a great time! We gave ourselves permission to have (and enjoy!) an off-plan day, and our plan to give away all the leftovers worked! Our friends got to go home to turkey sandwiches and casseroles, and we got to go back to the plan without temptation staring us in the face! It did take a few days for the carb tooth to settle down again though, I really had a hard time until sometime yes... Mon, 26 Nov 2012 18:52:48 EST Gearing up for Thanksgiving! Well, we've set the menu. We're coming up with plans for portion control and deliberately giving ourselves permission to have a day of "treats". However, they're home made treats, and I think we're going to do all right.

I've found that one day of eating "off plan" about every six to eight weeks seems to accomplish several things... a) I satisfy my cravings for something so I can "hold out" for another period of time before I revisit them again; b) my metabolism seems to kick bac... Mon, 19 Nov 2012 01:39:38 EST Grrr, stupid feet! Well, I'm actually doing REALLY WELL. But I do have one complaint left. It's entirely possible that if this one gets resolved, I may get a new one, but for now, if this one could get fixed, I think I would be good for awhile...

My feet have developed a pins and needles sensation that just will NOT go AWAY.

They're worse after dance class, and I'm sure my 2.5" heels aren't helping any, but dance shoes are SPENDY and I can't really afford another pair with a shorter heel... Fri, 16 Nov 2012 01:40:30 EST 20 LBS! Just weighed in... and have OFFICIALLY crossed the 20 pound mark! GONE! WOO HOO!! Mon, 12 Nov 2012 14:14:03 EST
