MOTORCITYNANA's SparkPeople Blog MOTORCITYNANA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Total fitness body and mind! A little over 6 months ago I completed my last chemo treatment and had one last surgery. To say I fell into a depression is putting it lightly. Thanks to a wonderful neighbor who pushed me into the right direction (Zumba) I am in total remission, body and mind!

The cancer wasn't what was holding me back from getting into shape, it was my fear and anger at what happened to me! We can either throw ourselves a pity party about life and how it has done us wrong or we can kick it to t... Sat, 15 Feb 2014 08:51:15 EST Food for thought I have started shopping at a local fruit market before doing my weekly shopping. I now load up on as many different veggies that I can to incorporate into my meals. It is exciting to try new vegetables and even better add them to existing recipes. Thankfully my spouse is open to trying new recipes. This has given me a better attitude in tackling dinner and ultimately its healthier and that is what this process all about!

Wed, 28 Aug 2013 21:47:43 EST Bucket List I have been reflecting on the last 6 months and came to the conclusion that we are always going to have stressful situations come up. It is how we handle then that count. In January I was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully I am cancer free today and more than ever realize how important a healthy lifestyle counts. I am currently recovering from my 4th surgery and hope last, when the idea of making my bucket list came up.

On my list first and foremost is getting and staying healthy. ... Wed, 21 Aug 2013 14:15:49 EST Commitment I’m sure we all know someone who has commitment phobias. One particular friend comes to mind, who’s looking for someone to grow old with and share memories. Until he can make a commitment to do so his dream is only that.

This is much like the situation we are facing, until we make the commitment to make life long changes and stick to them, our goals and dreams are just that.

I have made the commitment and struggle everyday to keep it. That’s alright though, make the pl... Fri, 10 May 2013 13:47:05 EST Making Lemonade! Not literally...but figuratively. A few months ago my whole world was rocked when I found out I had two different forms of cancer. The doctors believe they got it all but have me undergoing chemotherapy.

My last blog was up beat announcing another grandchild on the way and then this. Well I am tougher than this disease and plan to watch this newest addition grow along with my other beautiful gifts from God!

This is all the more reason to stay focused and use these wond... Sun, 28 Apr 2013 21:34:46 EST Another reason to get fit Just found out I'm going to be a nana again, number 6. I couldn't be happier! All the more reason to get fit and healthy....I want to be around for my beautiful grandchildren! Mon, 17 Sep 2012 22:00:28 EST Here we go again! Thought I had myself together. Seems I fell back into some bad habits! Good thing I realized what I was doing and ran to sparkpeople for help! Am back and ready to regain my health and well being. I am committed to tracking my food (EVERY BITE) and working out, right now water aerobics. I'm out!! Wed, 27 Jun 2012 14:05:22 EST Feeling good about myself! Just returned from vacation and accomplished two important goals!

First part of my vacation was spent in northern Michigan visiting one of my favorite parks, Lumberman's Monument. The views were wonderful with fall colors coloring the trees. Last year I could not make the trip to the bottom of the park.....this year I walked down the 272 steps and back up again!

Second half of the vacation was spent in southern Ohio, tent camping with my grandkids at a Halloween campout... Fri, 14 Oct 2011 13:50:07 EST What a difference a year makes! In a few weeks I will mark my 1 year anniversary of follow the weight watchers plan. What difference has a year mae? Well to start I have lost a little over 50 lbs, went from a size 22 to 16, went down a size in shoes, can bend down to tie my shoes without passing out due to lack of oxygen (LOL), can now shop in the regular size department, can buy clothing without try one or more sizes on, actually enjoy clothes shopping and I can go on!

More importantly I have gotten my LIFE back... Fri, 2 Sep 2011 00:23:59 EST How Sweet it is! Last week I hit my 50 lb weight loss. A milestone that seemed so out of reach when I joined weight watchers Sept 2010. My total weight loss was just too much for me to comprehend so I broke it down into smaller increments.

What does 50 lbs less mean to me...well I can now do the many everyday activities that some take for granted. My weight had made me a shutin, unable to shop, walk or interact with friends. I was in constant pain and unable to have the knee replacement I needed. <... Sun, 24 Apr 2011 21:50:40 EST Shedding............. Friday was jean day at work. We aren't allowed to wear jeans every Friday, so when we can it's cause for celebration. In the past I wasn't too happy about wearing jeans,,,either they were too tight or I just looked horrible in them compared to my other coworkers!

This time however I had to go out shopping for new "smaller" jeans to wear. My DH volunteered to tag alone and came in handy getting different sizes and styles until I found the right pair (2 sizes smaller).

W... Sun, 16 Jan 2011 21:13:57 EST What a difference 4 month can make! I started back with weight watchers almost 4 months ago and am so glad that I did! The extra weight that I had been carrying around did so much damage to my knees that the only option was to replace both of them. My surgeon was reluctant to do the surgery until I lost weight, mainly due to my asthma and other health concerns.

I didn't listen at first until I was struggling to walk with the aid of a cane. I don't remember the day or time that I finally made up my mind to do somethi... Mon, 10 Jan 2011 17:40:14 EST Back in the game! On Wednesday I joined weight watchers again after a 5 yr absence. I know I can do it because I've done several times before! I am back at the same weight I was when I last joined and was able to lose 75 lbs with 25 to go.

The difference this time is that I have to for my health. This weight has taken a toll on my body and with the onset of osteoarthritis I have no other option but to lose it and keep it off permanently! I will need to keep my friends close for help when I am temp... Sun, 19 Sep 2010 19:05:33 EST Back on track! One of my favorite quotes, "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." - Margaret Thatcher. Well I'm back in the battle, energized and ready for the fight. Tue, 26 Aug 2008 23:03:06 EST I can't believe it! Just weighted myself (a day earlier than usual) only to see the pounds drop by 10 lbs in one week. I actually weighed myself three times to make sure! All I can say is tracking every bites has paid off. Have I been tempted to munch on chips, cookies, etc, yes, but have not given in to temptation. I can say I've probably chewed about 10 packs of gum, however. The nutrition tracker is a lifesaver! Unlike WW where you have points, you can see every calorie and realize that every calorie counts! ... Sun, 16 Mar 2008 08:55:31 EST I did it, one day one week at a time! I decided on March 3rd to get off the fence and get down to business! Although my membership date shows Jan 5, 2008 it doesn't reflect my goals and promise to myself to get healthy. I was just testing the water and thought I could get a few good recipes to try. What I was doing was fooling myself. Not anymore! First week using these resources, (tracking every bite and trying the recipes) I am happy to say, I've lost 5 lbs. I am on a roll and plan to keep going. I have started taking short wa...
