MOSTMOM1's SparkPeople Blog MOSTMOM1's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community A Trial Run... Okay y'all, we're trying something today. SparkPeople's website no longer supports video blogs. This is sad news for this hooper/singalong/dogwalking SparkNerd. Coach Jen suggested I post links from YouTube. I'm reluctantly trying that. YouTube is a big, scary world. But I miss chatting with y'all, so we're gonna give it a go. One positive from this is that you can watch YT videos on your phone and you couldn't with SP vlogs. So there's a silver lining, right? We'll see how it goes.
<BR... Sun, 4 Mar 2018 19:41:09 EST Just Have to Tell Y'all Okay, so I just have to tell y'all a few updates because I feel like you're as vested in this as I am at this point. First, the pressure cooker--I hate to tell y'all this, but turns out, it's not magical. I thought it would instantly create these perfectly cooked, well-balanced, healthy meals. We are about 50/50 on that. Everything we've made has either been really good or really meh. I was hoping it would be foolproof. I think a giant contraption that looks like Rosie the Robot from The Jets... Thu, 8 Feb 2018 21:56:57 EST New Tools, New Challenges Hello, Mighty SparkWorld!

I've missed you. I love checking the feed throughout the day and seeing what everyone is up to. Thought I'd finally sit down and do a little catching up. Side note: Go Awesome A Team! You're doing amazing in the 5% Challenge.

I wanted to tell you about a couple of new tools that I'm using on my Spark journey. The first one is really fun. Well, let me back up a bit. Remember me telling you that my Creative Arts Team gifted me a subscription to al... Fri, 26 Jan 2018 17:08:19 EST I'm Still Here! I've had several people contact me, wondering where I've been. Thanks so much for checking in on me! I haven't blogged in approximately forever. But I'm still here, logging in, spinning the wheel, and keeping my crazy exercise streak alive by the skin of my teeth. It's just that the hubs and I have been spectacularly swamped with work. In the last couple of months, we've run seven major projects simultaneously. That's about five too many for me. I find myself waking up, looking like Nick Nolt... Thu, 21 Dec 2017 10:46:57 EST Singalong! (Sweet Caroline) I shot this singalong video the other day for my Creative Sprint. It was so much fun, I thought I'd share here. I mean, who doesn't need a singalong to start off their weekend? And come on, that's an irresistible song. You have to sing along.

Week 1 with my BFF helping me with my meal plans went pretty well. I wasn't perfect, didn't have all the groceries I needed for that and work kept me away from home all day, almost every day. But I'm not aiming for perfection; I'm aiming for p... Sat, 14 Oct 2017 10:52:23 EST A Bit of a Numbers Game Fall always feels more like the new year than January does for me. School starts back in session, we settle into routines, my team brainstorms a new year's worth of set designs and projects. So I do a year-end evaluation right around now, rather than January. I had the best time turning 50 in 2017. Actually, the entire year was a blast. I intentionally sank more time into relationships, put some things on the back burner, and did a lot of creative play. It was a good year for my brain. Don't ... Sat, 7 Oct 2017 12:01:24 EST New but Not New (hoop lessons) Remember that hoop flow class I've been taking forever? I'm still working my way through it and I plan on finishing it this month. Yesterday's practice taught me two valuable lessons that seem Sparkworthy, so I thought I'd share. Honestly, this class is a bit too advanced for me. Try as I might, I can't get all the moves and hold them in my head for very long. I can do bits and pieces, but that's about it. I shared a while back that I was gonna let that perfectionism go and just move forward ... Tue, 12 Sep 2017 07:59:53 EST GIANT Hoops (And they are amazing) Crossing the finish line, right under the wire and checking things off the Summer Bucket List. Yesterday, Sandy and I finished the Donut Trail. It was a rainy day, perfect for a play day. We surprised some of our friends with a box of fantastically amazing doughnuts. They were just rolling out of bed on their last weekend of freedom before school starts, so that was a fun surprise. (You can see the video on my Facebook page, or a shortened one on my Instagram.) We had fun, as always.
<B... Sat, 2 Sep 2017 18:27:53 EST The Challenge That Keeps Me In Check I've had a fun summer. I didn't take a trip or do anything earth-shattering. I'm sure my summer looks terribly dull to some folks. Pretty much, I intentionally goofed off as much as I could. Don't get me wrong, I still worked hard at my job. But I also ran around with friends, spent as much one-on-one time with Randy as I could, played games, and just goofed off. And it's not quite over. Sandy and I plan on finishing the Donut Trail Adventure this Friday. (We're still deciding who gets the su... Wed, 30 Aug 2017 10:01:26 EST Happy Little Trees, Clouds and Me I know I should start posting serious blogs about weight loss and fitness. I know. I really should. But these fun things keep popping up and I just want to share them with y'all. I mean, if Bob Ross comes in the mail, I have to show you, right?

See the new little Pop figure on my Shelf of Awesomeness?

<img src=" Fri, 25 Aug 2017 15:46:46 EST Push-Up Challenge and the Highly Accurate Scales My best friend, Shelley with an "ey" is super serious about fitness and nutrition. I mean, SUPER serious. She posts pics of her organic turkey burgers with flax seed condiments and stuff like that all the time. She's amazing. But she's so serious that sometimes I can't resist hijacking one of her fitness posts. I can do that because we have shared Facebook and Instagram accounts (ShellSquared and @realshellsquared). Basically, I feel like she knew what she was signing up for there. This is on... Sat, 19 Aug 2017 10:23:51 EST The Kroger Song and Doughnuts Thought I would share this snippet from yesterday, just for fun. Hubs and I team taught Beauty and the Beast for our Summer at the Movies series. Over the past several years, y'all have heard me whine and groan over making shopping lists and going grocery shopping. But what if I could do it as a musical?

What If

Ironically, we went straight to Kroger right after church. (I di... Mon, 14 Aug 2017 19:53:14 EST Frim Fram Sauce (singalong) Nothing earth-shattering in this vlog. Nothing at all. I just checked off a ton of things on my to-do list today and rewarded myself with a little ukulele time. Just goofing off. But hey, the song is food-related, so does that count?? And what the heck is frim fram sauce in the first place?

Do you have a favorite song your parents used to play when you were a kid? Funny how that stuff sticks in your brain, isn't it?

Well, that's absolutely all I stopped in to do--drop so... Thu, 10 Aug 2017 19:16:12 EST Flippy Foldy Holdy Things (hoop vlog) I really meant it when I said I was gonna "Elsa" that hoop flow class, let it go, and move on. I also meant it when I said you'd probably be seeing more hoop spam from me. Here is the first tiny section of Day 6. Moving on. Learning.

Learning new things makes me a happy camper. Wocka wocka

Also, I broke in the new, highly accurate scales this morning. I did not die. The wor... Sat, 5 Aug 2017 19:02:39 EST More Adventures on the Donut Trail Today was another day on the Donut Trail. I feel victorious because I only ate half of an apple fritter. Sandy and I both decided the best way to finish off the trail was to buy doughnuts at each shop and deliver them to friends. It totally works! lol

This was in one of the shops. Share the sprinkles. :)

We figure we have one more trip to complete the Donut Trail and then we... Thu, 3 Aug 2017 16:17:50 EST Moving On! (a hoop vlog) Unrealistic expectations/goals, perfectionism, stuff like that can really slow you down, stop you in your tracks even. Have y'all ever had something that started out fun, but turned into work? Lately, I realized that had happened in the weirdest place--inside my hula hoop. Y'all know that I've been working off and on through a hoop flow class. Not to reiterate everything I say in the video, but sometimes, you just gotta Elsa that stuff and LET IT GO!

<img src=" Sat, 29 Jul 2017 20:00:26 EST It's a Beautiful Day! You know that feeling you get when you get to do something on your Bucket List, a real Big Ticket item--whatever metaphor you use? I got to do that last weekend. I wanted to share part of the experience with you, since so much of Sparking is about being positive. Last Sunday, I got to team teach with my dad. It was a dream come true.

That's my dad!

Both of my parents have be... Fri, 21 Jul 2017 17:34:48 EST Summer Goals! Okay everyone, take a deep breath. Remain calm. I'm not trying to start a riot on SparkPeople with this video. Yes, it mentions doughnuts. Repeatedly. I realize that seems like blasphemy here on the "Live Healthy and Happy" website--

Or does it?

In the video, Sandy and I embark on our highly anticipated Donut Trail. We've talked about doing this all year. It's a county-sponsored "scavenger hunt" that highlights several local donut shops. You go to the shop and they stamp... Thu, 22 Jun 2017 22:23:26 EST Lessons I Learned From My Mother's Bras This evening has me putting another Mother's Day to rest. Whew. Not gonna lie, my brain is tired! But wow, what a day.

I don't always share my teaching clips here, but I thought I'd share this one, just because... My mom was an amazing lady and I'd love to share a little piece of her with you. And maybe, just maybe, you'll get a laugh or two out of it, with a small dose of inspiration. :)

If you're interested in listening to the entire message, here's the link to the po... Sun, 14 May 2017 20:17:30 EST Hey There Mister (revisited) Running around, doing all the last-minute prep stuff for Mother's Day made me think of the first parody song I wrote several years ago. I grew nostalgic, so I grabbed my uke and shot a quick video in the backyard. I'm a little rusty with this one, but I still love this song.

I gotta skedaddle--still lots of work to do but hey--I'm almost to the last leg of the Holiday Trifecta! Woot! Talk to you soon. Hope you have an amazing rest of the week.

Spark ON, Brave Sparkers! Wed, 10 May 2017 16:27:27 EST In Six Words Tomorrow is the last day of the Creative Sprint and it's been a good one. I feel like my brain has been well-fed this month! I had one last sprint from this week that I wanted to share with you because I think it's so SparkWorthy. The prompt was to write your family's story, creed, or whatever in six words.

This was my first work.

Absolutely, positively imperfect, but always famil... Sat, 29 Apr 2017 13:57:24 EST Sing a Song Singalong I haven't shared all of my creative sprints, but sometimes one of them seems to fit nicely in SparkLandia. This is one of those... (Oh my gosh, the thumbnail SP chose for this is hilarious. I promise, this is not a grumpy song!)

Creative Sprint Day 25: Be inspired by the song that gets stuck in your head.

I've had this song running in the back of my mind since I was 6 years old and I'm so glad. It's been the happiest earworm since 1973. I remember singing along with my ... Tue, 25 Apr 2017 20:58:52 EST Come as You Are But Go Sleeveless Had to take a little time off blogging; the High Holy Holidays keep me busy. (lol) But I thought I'd pop back in to share a little something from my Easter with you.

First, you should know that our church family is very "Come as You Are." Like, they really mean it. We had a guy wear Superman pajamas for a month while he was recovering from surgery and nobody noticed. At any rate, that's our culture and we're intentional about it. You're welcome in a suit and tie, or Superman pjs. ... Mon, 24 Apr 2017 10:28:04 EST Training Hard--sorta, not really My BFF, Shelley with an ey, is training for a half-marathon. She tried posting some video clips about it on our Instagram (@realshellsquared). We both struggle with Instagram stories, just can't get the hang of it. Even with Audrey sitting us down and giving us lessons, some social media stuff makes us feel like we're 142. We text this pic back and forth to each other, during those moments.

... Mon, 3 Apr 2017 08:56:10 EST Time for Another Sprint--Creative, That Is... I believe health and fitness includes mental and emotional health, in addition to all the physical stuff. So when I find something that boosts those areas for me, I like to share them. That's why I'm letting you know about the Creative Sprint I'm starting this Saturday. Most of y'all sprint at your amazing 5Ks and half-marathons. I'm more inclined to keep hula hooping, walking the Bubs, and sprint creatively instead.

What's the Creative Sprint? It's a free, online, global art game ... Thu, 30 Mar 2017 22:22:26 EST BIG Numbers! Celebrating some mighty BIG numbers today!!! 50-18-25-2171

50-That's how old I am today and I'm so excited about it. If I had a badge, I'd wear it.

18- Audrey just turned 18.

25-Randy and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary last July. Thu, 23 Mar 2017 10:04:03 EST Tiny Bit of Hoop Flow I'm dragging you along through my hoop flow class, which means I'm going to share my progress along the way. So, here's the next tiny bit I learned last week. I'm going to try to string it all together, if I can remember everything. We shall see. So much fun.

And yes, I'm still in my pjs. It's my day off.

Also, Spark shared a blog I wrote about body acceptance. Y'all know how important I think that is. I'm so glad they asked me to share, but I'm cracking up at the pic th... Mon, 13 Mar 2017 09:54:23 EST More Adventures in Eating Y'all know anytime I try something new, I'm compelled to share it with you. Well, the Mostellers are trying some new stuff in the kitchen. Remember a while back when I told you that I convinced Randy to let me try one of those home meal delivery plans? You know, the ones where you get a box of food, recipes and detailed instructions delivered to your door? We've been using that service ever since, usually for 2-3 meals a week. Last week, I put our account on hold.

Don't get me wron... Sat, 11 Mar 2017 09:23:26 EST Hoop Flow: Starting Over I started my online hoop flow class all over because I couldn't keep up with it the first time. Thankfully, it's online and you can do the lessons anytime you want. The whole class is supposed to take 21 Days. HA! It takes me one week to learn one day's lesson. LOL Did I mention that I enjoy working at my own pace?

At any rate, I started over and re-learned the first three sessions. This stuff is so much fun and it helps stretch out my neck and shoulders. Plus, it's good to make m... Thu, 2 Mar 2017 20:31:34 EST A Blog About Nothing In Particular I've been telling myself I need to get back to weekly blogging, but I kept waiting to have something halfway interesting to say. Nothing came to mind, so I've decided to just go ahead and write a blog about nothing in particular. I'm still Sparking along. I've cut down on sweets and the scale is slowly thinking about moving downward. I'm hoping to break into the 180's during this current 5% challenge, or at least come mighty close to it. 189, I'm coming for you!

Anyhow... I realize... Wed, 15 Feb 2017 12:24:40 EST Happy National Kazoo Day 2017! Happy National Kazoo Day!!! How are you celebrating this important holiday? Sadly, I lost my voice this week, along with the ability to kazoo. Fortunately, I had a bunch of pristine, never-before-used kazoos on-hand. So, some of my friends from my Creative Arts Team helped me mark this auspicious occasion. Please enjoy our rendition of "You Are My Sunshine" in a variety of keys. What we lack in musicality, we make up for with enthusiasm.
<img src=" Sat, 28 Jan 2017 11:03:00 EST Catching Up! Long time no blog! I've had every intention of blogging or vlogging for the last two months, but every time I sat down to do it, my brain said, "nope." See, I had to take a creative respite. You creative-types know what I'm talking about. (Actually, I think everyone is a creative-type, so...) At any rate, by the time 2016 came to a close, I had used up the bulk of my creative juice and am just now slowly kicking it back into gear. In case you're interested, I'll try to sum up the last couple ... Fri, 20 Jan 2017 21:12:05 EST GuiltyPleasureSingalong Love Will Keep Us Together I hadn't planned on posting two Guilty Pleasures Singalongs in a row, but after the crazy week we've had in the States, I thought it was a good idea. So let's all tap our toes, break out the bell-bottoms and SING ALONG!

Check it out, I got new glasses! Blue and nerdy - woohoo!

I'm swamped with Christmas production stuff right now, but I really want to try to shoot a hoop vlo... Sun, 13 Nov 2016 18:45:42 EST Chasing 195 and Guilty Pleasures Sing-Along I promised I wouldn't flood you with my Creative Sprint entries and I don't think I have. This is the last week! I hadn't planned on sharing this here, but then I thought, "Shoot, it's Monday. A lot of people have to go back to work today and that can be a little rough. Maybe a guilty pleasures sing-along is exactly what they need." The prompt was to interpret your favorite song lyrics. This was the first thing that popped into my head. Take "Build Me Up, Buttercup" with you wherever you go t... Mon, 24 Oct 2016 09:50:57 EST GREEN!! Wow! I hadn't realized it's been so long since I blogged... Thought I'd dash over here and drop a super short, creative sprint video because it includes a dash of exercise, so it bleeds over into SparkWorld. Today was the most gorgeous day; it practically begged for hooping. Audrey had the day off and spent the whole morning riding her bike all over town. I'm taking Bubba out for a long walk now. I LOVE FALL!!!! Thank goodness it's finally here.

Just wanted to let you know that I ... Mon, 17 Oct 2016 15:40:45 EST Creative Sprint Warmup (no running involved) Thought I'd post one quick little reminder here, just in case anyone wants to join us in playing the global art game, Creative Sprint for the month of October. No actual running, but it's exercise for your brain! We explain it a little more in the video but if you wanna play, go here to sign up:

It's free and it's just for fun. You don't have to be a fancy pants artist or anything. I'm a firm believer in the value of play and creativity for o... Thu, 29 Sep 2016 21:07:53 EST Shoulder Hooping Recital Okay, you've heard me talk about this shoulder hooping class all month. We finished on the 21st. I'm happy to say that I made it to class every day. (The fact that it was an online class I took in my home office might have helped...) Here's my sticker calendar for the class.

Like a ninja!

At any rate, I felt like it deserved some sort of recital, so here we go. And of course,... Fri, 23 Sep 2016 19:43:27 EST One Step Away From A Christmas Miracle Popping in here to tell you some exciting news, like this is one step away from a Christmas Miracle, I kid you not. Here it is:

I can look over my shoulder.

I'm sorry if you were expecting something more dramatic, but I assure you, this is dramatic to me.

Okay, it's not this dramatic.

You know me with my wonky neck, right? I'm so careful not to upset it... Mon, 19 Sep 2016 11:08:41 EST Let Yourself Be Terrible So glad today is my day off and Audrey doesn't have school! I hadn't planned on posting a vlog today, but I was out walking with Bubba and wanted to pass along a few words of encouragement.

First, me and shoulder hooping... I want to say I like it because I think I do, but I'm too stiff and sore right now to say it aloud. I can't tell how much of that is from the hooping class and how much is from work yesterday. We struck the drive-in movie set after church yesterday and it was a... Mon, 5 Sep 2016 13:37:07 EST Judgment-Free Fundapop in the Morning Y'all know how important I think play is. Not only can it be a good way to stay active, I think it keeps your mind sharp and jumpstarts creativity. So when my BFF (Shelley with an ey) and I had a breakfast meeting and found a park right across from the restaurant, well... Thought I would share our little video with you because it was just two middle-aged moms having fun in the park. I ended up playing Fundapop again with a co-worker/buddy in the church lobby. So much fun. We ran all over the ... Fri, 2 Sep 2016 14:02:48 EST The Swishy Hoop Wrap Thing! I finally learned a new hoop move!!!! It took me all week, but I learned a new thing and it's so much fun. Of course, now that I watch it, it looks ridiculously simple and I can't believe it took me all week. I assure you, it did.

But of course you have to sit through a story first; you knew you would, right? I can't help it; it's what I do. And I know I've shared this story in the past but it went along with how I was feeling with this hoop challenge. For the Awkward Girls!!!! <BR... Fri, 26 Aug 2016 10:27:12 EST The Video That Wouldn't Load Well, let's try this again shall we? This is the vlog that goes with the blog below. Doesn't that sound a little Seussian? Look up, look down, look all around.

Anyway, hopefully this will work. Otherwise, I'm guessing SP is having issues with their video hosting folks. Things happen.

In the meantime, enjoy this picture of a happy sloth:

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 09:32:41 EST Hoop Reboot Wk 3: And the Thumb Piano... Okay, this video decided not to load. Ever. So I reloaded it in a separate blog, right above this one. All this fuss over a video about absolutely nothing important. LOL

Week 3 of 4 on the hoop reboot adventure. I had hoped to share some amazing new move or something. Nope. Not this week. But hey, I hooped every day and there's this thumb piano thing...

I seriously did want to edit the wrong notes out of this lil video, but I couldn't. This morning, I got to teach/preach... Sun, 21 Aug 2016 19:44:49 EST Hoop Reboot Week 2: Try all the new things Hey Sparkers! Posting a late blog today. I hurried and shot a quick vlog during my lunch break, but I'm just now getting a chance to post here. This has been a big week. Audrey started her Junior year at her new school. So far, so good. We've all been adjusting to our new, regular schedule.

I wanted to check in and give you an update on my Hoop Reboot: Week 2. I've walked and ho... Fri, 12 Aug 2016 21:16:28 EST Hoop Reboot: Week 1 And lo, I have survived Week 1 of the Hoop Reboot project. I mentioned that my SparkBuddy, Jodi talked me into doing this online hoop reboot an instructor was offering for the month of August. Jodi's either being a really good friend and trying to hoop me back into shape, or she's taking a roundabout way of killing me. I'm still trying to decide. Let's give her the benefit of the doubt.

... Sun, 7 Aug 2016 21:11:13 EST Mall Parking Lot Harmonica Concert About halfway through my staycation and tempted to wish it were longer. :) Really enjoying my downtime. This morning, I had breakfast with my bestie, Shelley. (Yes, two Shellieys. We call ourselves ShellSquared.) Anyway, you remember one of my staycation goals was to start playing through my harmonica lessons? Well, I made it through one song, kinda, sorta--it's a start. So of course I had to share it with you--why wouldn't I? It can only get better from here.

Other monumental thin... Fri, 29 Jul 2016 14:10:52 EST Walking at Work Hello SparkBuddies! Thought I'd post a quick vlog I shot at work. If I look slightly tired and disheveled, it's because I am. (lol) Randy and I have had an intense couple of weeks, dealing with crises, putting out fires, etc. Plus, I'm taking the entire week off next week, so I needed to cram two weeks of work into this week, so I can waltz off guilt-free. You know how it is. But here it is Friday and we've survived! Huzzah!!

At any rate, this is how I beat the heat and cold someti... Fri, 22 Jul 2016 16:56:07 EST Teeny Tiny Ukulele Concert You know sometimes I just have to share fun little things with y'all, right? That would be wrong.

How cute is that?

And since it came from Hawaii, you know I had to play THE song, right?
