I figured, for $20, why not? Besides, the race is right here in my city (and it’s not like this is a huge city, only 26.28 square miles, almost 10% of which is water) so no 3am wake up. Was just a bit windy though-15 mph with gusts from 25-30mph. Had a 3 mile stretch going directly into the wind. Felt good on the body though, kept everything cooler. I asked DH if there was any way to make a playlist of songs (any length, just my favorite songs), then overlay a voice or sound on top of it to say "run", "walk" or just chime/ding/buzz/whatever. I had to put my dog, Winnie, to sleep tonight. She had been having some problems with her back leg going out from under her and had been taking prednisone to see if it would help. It did seem to be helping some. Then tonight I was sitting in the living room and heard a sound like stuff being dropped down the stairs...I though DH might have dropped things but he called to me and told me Winnie had tried going up the stairs and then fell back down them (she ha... Felt fine in the beginning walking, but starting with the first run interval---blech! Felt out of breath, right shin felt sore...altogether yucky. Wound up cutting several of the run intervals short by 30 seconds or so each and the walking portions were quite slow. Wound up being slower than race pace (avg 16:51 min/mile) and I was just happy to be done with it. Mondays have been harder for me... Today's LR was 10.2 miles with an average pace of 15:13 min/mile, burning 1247 calories...and I was doing the 3 min walk/2 min run intervals so I was very pleased. I used my new Garmin 305 today and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! It's great seeing how many miles I've done along the way, my pace, elapsed time and heart rate. Plus I have the AutoPause on so when I am stopped (like at a stoplight), it pauses too so it doesn't mess up my pace measur... DH also got me a new Nikon Coolpix 10MP digital camera (man is it light! feels like it weighs nothing at all) with a case and a 4GB SD card and finally a pair of Klipsch earbuds (fancy shmancy) for my iPod shuffle. I completed 12.2 miles in 3:12:52...which included my warm up, cool down and stopping for 5 traffic lights along the way. That is a 15.81 minute/mile pace. With the stops and warm up/cool down included I'm okay with that pace...only have to keep that up for just under one more mile and I will be an "official" finisher in January at the Disney half!
