MOMS100's SparkPeople Blog MOMS100's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Feeling Dumber than Dumb Well, it's a beautiful day for a Spark Rally! And I'm supposed to be there, at Green Hill Park in Worcester. Note to self: Even if you think you know the way, GET DIRECTIONS!! I can get lost in a paper bag.... proved it today!

I told DH where the rally was, and he said, "Oh, that's easy! " and proceeded to tell me how to get there. I remembered going by the park, so headed happily off. Of course, being at camp without a computer, I didn't check. Turns out, we knew how to ... Sat, 30 Jul 2011 13:14:14 EST The Dark Gifts As I was trying to catch up on reading my "Daily Guideposts" devotional this morning (we've been on the West coast for a funeral), I read the one by Brian Doyle for May 26. Coincidentally, that was the day of the funeral for my son-in-law's twin brother. The writer wonders, in print, if some of the painful things that happen to us might be gifts that we don't see or understand at the time.

Whoa! I had to stop and think about that for quite a while! How can the death of a kind, ... Thu, 3 Jun 2010 20:24:40 EST Skiing at 65 OK, my sister & a few friends think I'm crazy! (And maybe I am!) But I actually had fun this past weekend. My hubby & I went to Okemo in Vermont with our oldest son & 3 grandchildren. Now, I've done cross-country skiing, but could count on the fingers of one hand the times I've been downhill. And that was years ago.
Boy, have things changed! No longer the long skis, but short stubby ones that are easier to control (sometimes). Our son had signed me up for a lesson, thankfully!... Wed, 24 Feb 2010 13:44:02 EST Exercise for today. Whew! Did bootcamp day 1. My legs feel it, though I thought I was in better shape. Actually, it's not surprising, as I haven't been to Curves since Dec. 17th. Then, thanks to our blowing snow, I spent almost a half-hour shoveling & breaking up hardpack, from where the truck packed it down on our way to church. My back & shoulders are in agreement with my legs now! Think a nice, relaxing bath is in order tonight! Sun, 3 Jan 2010 16:10:04 EST End of Summer Well, we're back from camp, though we'll be spending some time there through work weekend in mid-September. As usual, summer went by too fast.

It's really starting to hit me that I'm RETIRED! No going back to school next week! I'm looking forward to this, with a little trepidation. Will I become too sedentary? Will I sit around with a cup of tea and a good book? Of course! But hopefully, I'll also keep exercising and eating right. Now I'll have more time to plan & make meal... Sat, 29 Aug 2009 11:03:31 EST Bootcamp begins Well, I'm starting bootcamp! SP has done wonders for me this last year, but my motivation to move and exercise has been somewhat lacking. Guess I figured that keeping up with all our preschoolers was exercise enough. I lost about 25 pounds, but would still like to shed 5 more. I re-started Curves and am serious about bootcamp. My eating habits fell down a bit over the vacation. I mean, when your grandchildren make you cookies, you have to eat some, right? I did give half away to the ot... Sun, 4 Jan 2009 13:01:03 EST Slipping Life has a way of beating you down. I love my summers, because I get a chance to spend them in the peace & quiet of our church camp. This year, I've been away more than there. An emergency with our son & family in Maine has me very depressed. I can't get on SP at camp (no internet), so have to track foods manually, which I don't do consistently. I'm walking more, anyway! And on the bright side, though I haven't lost weight in the past 2 weeks, I've only gained 1/10 of a pound! I guess,... Wed, 23 Jul 2008 10:51:05 EST 145 at last!!! FINALLY this morning I was 145! I'm halfway there! I weigh in on Friday or Saturday, but have been so close I've been checking every morning. Now I can get a new pair of jeans & capri pants, & won't have to keep hiking 'em up! I also can get into my too-snug summer shorts again! WHOOPIE! 104 244 252 Mon, 2 Jun 2008 17:34:09 EST Trouble, but not for long I'm ALMOST to a goal of 145! Hopefully, by tomorrow's weigh-in I'll make it.
I've been SO close, but refuse to buy new jeans or capris until I reach 145.0 or below. I get close, then go up a pound or so. Maybe this time, I hope, I hope! I KNOW I'll make it sometime. 211 Fri, 23 May 2008 20:16:35 EST Mom's Memorial Well, it went better than I had hoped. I actually held it together & managed to read my poem without bawling. It helped that my oldest granddaughter, Kaitlin, read a poem she had written, also. She's only 9, but has wisdom beyond her years.

We first went to the cemetery (in the pouring rain) and had a service. My sister had bought roses for each member of the family to place in the grave around the urn. Mom's great-grandchildren, grandchildren, children & spouses placed a rose...
