MOMPPCL's SparkPeople Blog MOMPPCL's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Try a Tri - DONE I completed my first Try a Tri (100m swim, 11km bike and 2km run) this week-end. Nothing extraordinary, my time was poor, but I did it and I am now motivated to keep training - which I had not done much beforehand given the circumstances. I have another one at the end of the summer and I intend to do better by training, esp. on the bike which turned out to be my weakness... 11km was long!!!

It was a very good experience, I now have a better idea what I am getting into and I'm ev... Tue, 21 May 2013 08:28:17 EST Perpetual failings or perpetual beginnings Today, I made three healthy salads. I was exhausted this morning because I haven't been sleeping well lately. Since I was up, I went for a 30min walk quite early, and it was lovely. I didn't push myself, just enjoyed the walk.

I had started P90X and recently got sick and then really tired so I had to stop "temporarily", just couldn't "Bring It" anymore after doing the first 4 weeks. On the bright side, last time I tried I only got in 10 days! I know I can't rush back into exer... Mon, 29 Apr 2013 14:00:52 EST My plan I have fallen off the P90X bandwagon - got sick and now I just can't seem to get back on.

I have my try-a-tri in 3 weeks, so I need to focus on swimming, biking and running now. My plan: aquafitness tonight, walk/run tomorrow morning, bike on Thursday, rest on Friday. Tue, 23 Apr 2013 13:18:46 EST P90X 3rd week DONE! I did Kempo X, which I really like, with all the punching and kicking.
That brings me to the end of my 3rd week. I started 62 days ago, so that's 21 days in 62 days! Hit one out of 3 days. Last 2 weeks were a wash with March Break and a flu for the whole family - I didn't get much sleep with the baby sick.

The good thing about following the 90 days program is that when I get back to it, I don't start from the beginning. I'm now starting week 4! Whatever keeps me motivated, ... Wed, 20 Mar 2013 14:15:08 EST 3rd week of P90X I started mid-January, and slowly making my way to the 90 days program, with lots of lost days in between. This workout is an absolute killer for me. I can't, just can't get through it. Today I did the shoulders and arms, and probably skipped half of it cause I just couldn't.

I like Tony's quote though, don't say, "I can't", Say "I am presently struggling with". So I am presently struggling with completing a workout, but half of P90X is worth 3 other workout combined....
... Mon, 25 Feb 2013 14:08:28 EST Big families and stomach flu There are many days where having a big family is just wonderful. I love to see the interaction between the kids and how they can help out each other or entertain each other.

Then, there are times where being a big family means that it takes that much longer for a bout of stomach flu to get through the family. One night you deal with one, next time it's the other, and then you're not done...

That really makes be thankful that I have usually healthy kids.

... Thu, 21 Feb 2013 12:57:00 EST Yo-yo ing my 2lbs I keep gaining and losing the same 2lbs! I've been hovering around 148lbs to 152lbs for the last 8 months! I guess I have to change something... Tue, 12 Feb 2013 15:33:21 EST Oh, and I signed up for 2 Try a tri, first time ever!!! 237 332 312
381 Tue, 5 Feb 2013 08:49:32 EST P90Xing Day 9 after 19 days Going at my own pace is much better than not moving. I've been doing the P90X videos with little ones around, making sure I wouldn't trip over them... So I have done 9 days so far in 19 days. I just need to keep the motivation... I always find it difficult to stay the course after a while and keep motivated. Tue, 5 Feb 2013 08:46:31 EST Kenpo X or a lot of punching! I started back my P90X program, but decided this time around that I would print a table with all the 90 days programs, then scratch it off as I get it done. Marvellous! This way, if I skip a day because of the XYZ that constantly seem to get in the way, I can get right back into the action. Says who that I have to finish P90X in 90 days, I'm sure they didn't have the mom of 5 in mind Ha HA!! So one day at a time.

Loved that Kenpo though, punch, punch, kick, kick - made me feel ... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 05:57:35 EST After Christmas Well, I've gone back to being above 150! But I sure enjoyed the Holiday baking... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 08:46:39 EST Week 4 It's so funny. I dropped 3lbs all at once - like in one day! And now I'm staying there. I'm glad, it's not 5lbs, but I'm staying there for the 2nd week in a row. I'm quite satisfied. Now I need a strategy to stay there and not gain it back during Christmas. I think I'll need to really work it off...
216 364 363 362 324 237 335 Mon, 17 Dec 2012 11:11:28 EST Still hoping to lose before Christmas I lost 3 lbs so far and I am very happy with being under one of my goal of 150lbwhich is the healthy upper limit for me. Still aiming to get a couple more pounds, and it is motivating me when the temptation strike to see this weight goal and to want to keep it... Wed, 12 Dec 2012 09:07:22 EST Two weeks, 3lbs down? I am actually surprised because I was tracking the first week and being mindful of what I ate, then nothing. And then last week I was just really busy and had a couple of Xmas parties where I did indulge - reasonably, but still - and then I lost. I am not even sure I trust my scale to be honest. But I guess I'll see in the next week if it's just a moody scale thing....

Anyhow, this week, the plan is for more fruit / veggies and water because I need the energy. Mon, 3 Dec 2012 08:28:43 EST One week, no change I think I have to tweak the way I eat and figure out which foods are more satisfying with fewer calories... Mon, 26 Nov 2012 14:39:26 EST Day 5 Still tracking and eating well... my husband bought a big bag of banana peppers yesterday, I had no idea they were so hot!!! But good. Spicy is good. It just really surprised me, while I was preparing them, my hands were burning, and if I touched my face, it was burning too!!!

198 Fri, 23 Nov 2012 12:26:07 EST Learning about hunger cues The thing I am learning right now as I track my food is to pace myself. Am I really hungry, or pleasantly satisfied, or stuffed. Sometimes I won't stop until I feel really full. But then I feel sluggish. If I stop when I am just satisfied, not hungry, but stop even though I feel I could eat some more, after a while it does feel better. I don't know how to properly describe it. I want to eat more, but really, I am not hungry, I am used to a more full feeling. So I have to learn to love ... Thu, 22 Nov 2012 10:52:30 EST Day 3 This is day 3 of tracking my food. I hate doing the tracking, it's time consuming and since I cook most of what I eat and vary my recipes based on what I have on hand, I feel like it's a guestimate at best. However, I do have to say that it keeps me accountable and I do eat better when I have to write it down. So I'll stick with it until the weekend, take a break and then start again on the monday. Wed, 21 Nov 2012 11:51:13 EST 5lbs by Christmas I have been stuck at the same weight for about 3 months now, so I feel a little bit of a challenge is just what I need. And I love food and I want to enjoy the Christmas food a bit, so I'm thinking lose a bit before will be a good reminder of how much discipline it takes to lose, and to enjoy food responsibly!!!

So my plan is old style - track my calories, exercise a bit every day, eat healthy, drink my water. I might switch from coffee to green tea if I can muster the courage, f... Mon, 19 Nov 2012 08:56:12 EST I did the 5KM challenge One thing I really appreciate about SP is that it does give you a challenge ready to go when you need one.

I entered the 5KM challenge and this morning, I did it, instead of walking my typical 2.5km (or nothing at all!!!) It certainly did push me to go further. It also got me motivated to do another one in a month and improve my time just a bit (weather permitting of course...)

With that motivation and the NEW YOU which takes only 10min if I do the bare minimum, it he... Sun, 28 Oct 2012 10:33:14 EST Doing the NEW YOU workout I did Day 1, 2, 3 and 4 the other day. Today I did the aerobics part plus Day 5 and 6. May go to Aquafit tonight if I'm still in one piece, otherwise it'll be a good book... Thu, 25 Oct 2012 10:15:27 EST Sometimes chocolate IS the answer... Sometimes, you're just having a bad time, people disappoint you and baby kept you up too long. A small piece of dark chocolate is just what you need. It's sort of self medication. That and a good book, and heart pumping exercise... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 08:06:30 EST I failed... Total failure!!! I think I just can't follow a menu...

I'm up to a good start today. The problems is feeding the kids, things in the cupboard, leftover pie from MIL and the simple fact that I am more likely to eat leftover than to prepare something just cause it's on my menu. I guess it's just simpler that way.

I just really hope to break through the 150s. Wed, 17 Oct 2012 12:41:02 EST My challenge... So I've been busy with back to school, MIL visiting, Bday parties (big milestones!) and renos...

Now that MIL and all her wonderful baking are away, I might have a fighting chance LOL 20

I managed to gain only one pound, which I lost by cutting quite a bit of hair 20

So my challenge for this week is to eat on purpose. I plan to have my meals planned out and eat what's on the menu. Simple enough, but that is a HUGE challenge for me. ... Tue, 16 Oct 2012 12:00:59 EST Training update I had a good last few days, did a 200m swim after my Aquafitness, then a 10km bike ride over the weekend and a 3.4km walk with 1km run as well. Felt really good!!! It's nice to see progress.

Now I have to look into indoor alternatives before it gets too cold... Tue, 9 Oct 2012 09:05:04 EST Triathlon I now have it in mind to do a Sprint triathlon next summer, or at least a Try a Tri. I was doing well exercising almost everyday, but then my MIL came in town, I had a big party to organize and I got completely sidetrack. I hope to get back on track tonight...

So far, I can swim for 100m, run for ... 300m!... yikes... and bike for about 5km!!! Wed, 3 Oct 2012 10:15:00 EST Vacation Camping is the best! I lost weight while on vacation! I couldn't believe it... I didn't always snack right, but with all the hiking and very busy camping activities, and the fact that food wasn't always available or I just didn't have time to think about it, the combination was right I guess... If only I was always camping on vacation!!! But it was tiring and I am glad to be back!!! Thu, 30 Aug 2012 09:28:43 EST Going places Hitting the road - Am planning lots of healthy snack - baby carrots, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, cucs, sandwiches, apples and oranges, and some chips for the crowd... I am at 155.4, I hope to be same or lower when I come back........ Thu, 2 Aug 2012 13:50:41 EST Walk to the pharmacy Last night, 9pm, the baby was not sleeping. It was still quite warm outside so I put him in the stroller and walked to the pharmacy. Nice 2km walk... Mon, 30 Jul 2012 08:18:37 EST Thoroughly enjoying summer It's been a good mix of vacations, friends and family. Still a big trip ahead. Not losing, but not gaining either and I'm getting lots of fun movements - hiking, swimming, playing with the kids. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine!
67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67 67

Sat, 28 Jul 2012 07:00:24 EST Body fat I checked my body fat % this morning and it's under 30%!!! Yay!!!

We're going camping for the weekend - lots of exercise, lots of junk food. Who's going to win? Ha ha ha! I know I'll bring plenty of veggies and eat well, but I'll also indulge a bit. Who can say no to S'mores anyway? Fri, 8 Jun 2012 08:53:58 EST Perspective Yesterday, my husband took the older ones to soccer, so I only had the baby. I was able to go for a long walk with him, and he fell asleep. What a treat!

I was updating my sparkpage and realized that I lost 3 pounds in May. It's funny because I thought I was stuck on a plateau, but with perspective, I'm actually doing really well, even though I still haven't found the way to exercise regularly. That is, if you don't count running after 5 kids, including a baby and a preschooler... Wed, 6 Jun 2012 09:34:09 EST Great weekend It was my daughter's birthday and we had a blast! She was sooo happy to have her friends come over. I love this age where the little things like having a tea party really makes them happy.

All kids are home today. I'm not sure when I'll get back to exercising. It's definitely in the back of my mind. Mon, 4 Jun 2012 14:18:48 EST Today I just came home. It's almost noon. I've been gone since 8! To the library to drop some books, to the car dealer for 2 hrs just to be told that they are ordering the part and I'll have to come back, to the store to get a birthday gift for my daughter turning 6 today! My little princess! and then to the school because my oldest is sick. Ouf! Will this ever end?

Down 2 glasses of water. 6 more to go. I'm eating a yummy quinoa and lentil salad with cucs, tomatoes and a tahini dres... Thu, 31 May 2012 11:47:41 EST Water break Last few weeks have been trying. My baby is now almost 8 months old, but he's still not sleeping super well. Better, he'll wake once or more likely twice, but it's a challenge with everything going on in the house.

I used to be able to workout in the morning, but right now, I just don't have the energy. I really get up in the morning by peeling myself from the bed. Jumping up and down may help, I just haven't been able to motivate myself to do it!!!

My goal for the n... Wed, 30 May 2012 16:43:56 EST Exercised done Today I did a workout with the exercise ball that my hubbie gave me. Good abs workout, it did challenge me. I like new. I didn't do any more running, because my runners are at my parents... Mon, 28 May 2012 08:57:57 EST Stressed I've been just stressed out with a number of issues. Today, I'm taking a down day. Nothing on the agenda. Wed, 23 May 2012 09:34:56 EST Today I ran 200 meters. I don't know if I will ever get fed up of writing about how I exercised for 10 min or walked for 15 min or ran for 200 meters. This is all very small, so ridiculously small. I just feel like a little child, I have to boast about the little step I took! There isn't much else happening, other than I am making good food choices. Baby is getting better, still on antibiotics. And it's my birthday tomorrow - didn't even see it coming! Wed, 16 May 2012 14:04:59 EST Yeah... Life IS challenging I have not exercised for the last 10 days. Baby got sick, a bad cold that degenerated into a ear infection. Not much sleep, a lot of daytime dazed sleepwalking going around my busy daytime whatever it is that I usually do!

And son needs piano accompaniment for his violin piece, so I've had to add in some piano practice. My hubby said - you don't need to add this right now? Well, yeah, kinda, because you see, it's more rewarding to learn a new piece of music than to clean the ho... Tue, 15 May 2012 09:21:06 EST I need to do abs everyday... I did Day 5 of the Spring into shape. Abs pilates. This is my nemesis. I feel that this area of my body is quite weak and it's always a big challenge to get it working. I also find that I have a really hard time keeping my tummy in during the day. So I know I need to work on that area. It will make me feel stronger, protect my back and look better without losing a pound. Sat, 5 May 2012 08:25:46 EST Day 4 - Baby and me I started my 10 min cardio workout this morning and baby started crying. Somehow the baby carrier was out, so I picked up the baby and continued with him. By the time I was done, he was asleep, and I was able to do the Day 4 toning section. Really nice...
My toddle is occupied watching the neighbor's tree being chopped down. Fascinating for a 3 year old. Awesome for mom. Thu, 3 May 2012 08:46:26 EST Did Day 3 I haven't manage to do the 10 to 30 min of cardio, but at least I got the weight training in. Small victory! Wed, 2 May 2012 12:29:47 EST May is the month when it will happen April was doom and gloom, we got sick, tired, the weather was dreary. May started with a 20 min workout and I'm feeling this will be the month. I was down all of one pound in April. That's all right. At least I maintained while getting through the storm. This month will be good. Tue, 1 May 2012 12:38:26 EST Good news, all is not lost! I did Day 1 of the Spring into Shape challenge. The cardio kickboxing is the same as the February Challenge, and I remember thinking it was hard at the time. Good news! After exercising for a while, even after stopping for 2 weeks, it wasn't hard to pick up where I left off! Just enough of a challenge to get me back on track.

I'm just thrilled! Best 10 min of my day! Mon, 30 Apr 2012 09:20:32 EST Spring into shape challenge - I signed up! I saw this challenge and I thought, why not try it. I know I'm really tired, but I will pace myself, and doing a daily video at my own pace will be better than nothing. I will make sure to not push myself too much, because I really can't at this point, but I will start moving again.

This morning, I stepped on the scale thinking that if I was under 158 I'd be happy with it. Now this is no weight loss, even a bit of a gain from a couple of days ago, but it would be fine. It would... Thu, 26 Apr 2012 13:27:34 EST Hiatus So I've been taking an involuntary break from exercising because I've been sick on and off for the last couple of weeks. I'm really itching to get back into it because it gives me energy, which I sorely lack at the moment.

Anyhow, my scale says I've lost a bit, a pound and a half over the last 2 weeks. But my Body fat has stayed the same. Does that mean I'm losing muscle mass? 24 Tue, 24 Apr 2012 06:58:52 EST Getting better I know yesterday's message was cryptic at best. I had a blocked and infected milk duct, which is very painful and makes you feel completely exhausted. Not good when you have 5 kids... I'm slowly getting better, but it will be at least another week before I can exercise again and I find that very frustratung... Fri, 20 Apr 2012 11:48:06 EST will this ever end do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try, it's not happening... I'm really trying to be healthy. This is just too challenging. Thu, 19 Apr 2012 12:52:31 EST Feeling better Oufff. Feel like I am slowly getting back to life. I did a Kathy Smith Lift weight to lose weight this morning, which was good. I'm eating a kale salad and had a roast turkey sandwich on homemade whole wheat bread. I had 2 pieces of dark chocolate. I went to the play group and read a book to my 3 year old. I continued giving my 6 months old solid food (very liquid solid food). I got him to nap at a decent time and waited for him to wake up before going to the playgroup. I picked up the... Wed, 18 Apr 2012 13:07:06 EST Tough week Indeed. I had mastitis, fever, soreness and al, and my three younger kids got sick, including the baby. He is still so stuffed up that he can't breastfeed and breath at the same time. He has this rough cough. Anyway, I can't even start to think about exercising at the moment. I go for leisurely walks with the kids when I get a chance, but that's it...
39 Mon, 16 Apr 2012 10:08:15 EST
