Last week was interesting - I ended up not tracking for 4 or 5 days...and didn't do much cardio to boot. But I knew I was in trouble, so by the end of the week I was slowly getting back in the groove and ended up losing 3 pounds! Woohoo...My body seems to like me being long as I don't go overboard on calories. Weigh in was a shot in the arm, though - I'm much more motivated to exercise this week - not quite up to my 4 mile stamina, but going strong at 2 miles/24 minutes. ... Mon, 9 Nov 2009 22:25:05 EST Let's start the Winter Challenge This is it! I've been here 3 months, lost 25 pounds (1/3 of the way to my goal). So I've been trying to figure out how to approach the winter months - those times where I usually sit around a gain weight because it's too cold or too wet to do anything physical. PFAUGH! No such thing...just do it indoors! I've been stead in October on the walking, hitting my goal of 15 miles a week. Sat, 24 Oct 2009 16:48:22 EST Embracing Pizza I just have to confess - I just ate an entire Amy's frozen pizza - and not the small individual ones either! Basically, I just downed 3 servings of yumminess, even if the crust was a bit crispy for my taste. And here's the kicker - that was lunch. I now have no room for dinner. But I knew that going in, and I enjoyed every bite. No I'm not falling off the wagon. I'm just enjoying one of life's pleasures - I guess pizza is my comfort food and I don't eat it nearly as much as I used to! ... Sun, 18 Oct 2009 17:09:29 EST Down, but not out. Well, tricky week this! I was doing great until Wednesday night when I left the office feeling the sore throat that always bodes ill. Went home, took some garlic, tea and Vitamin C. Took a day of rest, more garlic, tea and vitamin C. Limited my eating since I wasn't going to be exercising, and felt much better the next day. Went to work, no problems, looking like I beat the bug out with a quick 1-2-3 punch. Then, I went to get JP from school and ran into the dad of one of his friends - ... Lost 18.8 pounds so far - almost below that 200lb marker - next week's weigh-in will be a whole new set of numbers for me! This is also my 25% marker, so I'm a quarter of the way there! WooHoo!! I'm feeling motivated, I have a lot more energy, I actually look forward to exercise now, and I'm not worried as much about the winter/rainy season because I have Curves and I bought the Walk Away the Pound... I gave myself a new commitment - I joined Curves this week and had my first training on the circuit today - it felt great! 3-4 times a week and I think I'll make it through winter without gaining, as I traditionally do! Thu, 1 Oct 2009 22:16:44 EST I really can do this! It's been a challenge, but I know now that I really can do this. Not only can I do it, but I can lose more than I originally planned. I've lost nearly 15 pounds and realized - that's ALREADY 25% of my goal. My goal was 160, but let's face it, I can go down to 145 - I just never thought I could, much less in a year. That will be a total weight loss of 70 pounds off my starting weight. I just didn't want to dream that big - to think that I could be at such a low weight seemed to be the imp... Well, it's been a while - I was off SP most of last week - just too much work and didn't want to spend every waking minute on the computer. Staying up late left me too tired to work out much, and ended up eating to cope with the stress - not way over the top eating, but enough that I gained back 2 of those pounds I worked hard to lose. Lost track of keeping track, as well. But I'm back at it again. Looks like this week will be just as stressful, but I'll deal with it better than I did las... Mon, 14 Sep 2009 20:44:05 EST Well, the summer is over... LOL! I spent the Labor Day weekend watching it rain, hearing about tornadoes touching down in Enumclaw, and listening to the sounds of my upstairs bathroom floor getting torn out. All in all, not bad! I finished one book and got halfway through another. Did absolutely NO exercise, didn't bother cleaning (why, when the handyman was tracking so much through the house), and pretty much just hung around the house all weekend. Had a great walk at lunch - I remembered a small trail that's a block over from work and it was a quick 10 minute hike uphill, plus another 15 minutes to get there and back again to the office. B... Thu, 3 Sep 2009 21:01:10 EST Measurements of Success... Today is one month - I joined SP on 8/2. I took my body measurements and lost 1 inch off the waist, 2 inches off the hips! My pants aren't so snug and by next summer, they'll all be donated. <BR> <BR> Goals not achieved yet - consistent exercise both cardio and strength training. I did really well last week and the week prior, but this week I fell off the wagon, as it were. Haven't done any pilates or other strength training. Of course, lunch was just a guesstimate - went out for Thai food and had ginger tofu. Only ate about 1/2 the rice, most of the sauce stayed on the plate, and had it with tofu. I ate all the veggies, but still, the tofu added a lot of calories. Likely, what I tracked was more than what I ate, but's pretty high. Feeling tired - woke up in the middle of the night about 5 minutes before someone blew a couple of boxes of fireworks (I didn't have it nearly as bad as my co-worker who was 2 houses down from the display) - mind you, it was 2AM. Between a near meltdown at Mass this morning with my son to countless hours on my feet preparing food for the week, and not even getting it all done (no veggie packs yet), I'm tired. Sun, 30 Aug 2009 23:23:00 EST Suprise opportunities! Today had some great surprise opportunities for exercise - first was my son's soccer lesson. It was parents day and initially, JP said he didn't want me in there, but the coach had all the kids call in all the parents, so I was able to play soccer with him - had a good sweat built up by the end of class! It was great fun to play bulldogs and puppies or space aliens with soccer balls. Unfortunately, I didn't wear the best shoes, otherwise I know I could have gotten an even better workout. <... Sat, 29 Aug 2009 21:39:51 EST Tracking at the Fair So we went to the Fair today and I wasn't sure how to track - seriously, it's not like you can just pull up Fair food - although I think I found a reasonably healthy option in a veggie gyro. Then tracking 4 hours of "walking" - which I think really came down to about 1 hour of walking and 3 hours of waiting while JP went on rides. Dinner was delicious and only a little overkill - went to Red Robin and ordered my usual Gardenburger sans sauce, but added on some cheese and BBQ sauce on the si... The last two weeks have seen a definite increase in my exercise routine - getting out for walks most days and if not, trying to fit in other exercise. The food tracking thing has become easier over time, now that a lot of my favorites are in my "favorites" menu. I've even started putting in the recipes I cook most often so I can track their nutrition value and add them to my meal planner. My desk is currently covered with magazines and recipe b... Wed, 26 Aug 2009 22:34:21 EST I'm a food snob... But that's okay by me. We had an lunch meeting and I brought my own food as planned because I don't like lunchmeat. Sure enough, I was asked why I wasn't joining the line and I simply said that I don't eat that. I explained that I don't eat much meat (new term I learned here on SP is "flexitarian"), so when I do eat it, I want it to be good. To me, lunch meat does not qualify as "good". I wasn't sure about exercise today - I stayed up too late last night watching Iron Man. I tried to only watch half of it, but I enjoyed it too much! When it was time to get up this morning, I fell back asleep and when I finally crawled out of bed, it was too late to do my pilates, so it was off to the shower and get ready for work. I found out today that my son likes to call the extra stomach rolls "Burrito rolls" - and let's face it, they are the size of a grande burrito! It adds a bit of humor to my weight loss journey. Not really inclined to exercise today either, knowing full well that I'll be doing a lot of walking tomorrow. A day of rest is a good thing. Well, turns out I only walked 2.89 miles today - no where near the 4 miles/10,000 steps recommended. And this was with my newly added lunch time walk AND 2 hours walking around at the park for our annual company picnic. Unfortunately, it turns out that the pedometer isn't very accurate - it recorded 34 steps while I was DRIVING (I set it to 0 to test) - it recorded every bump I went over and whatever else jarred the pedometer. Anyone know a good pedometer that can actually distinguish betw... Thu, 20 Aug 2009 23:05:21 EST I bought my first pedometer. After all, how else will I know if I'm hitting 10,000 steps a day? It will be interesting to see how close or far I am, now that I'm taking walks at lunch every day. Still have to figure out what to do when it starts raining - I don't mind walking in a light rain, but not a heavy downpour...and here in the NW, you just never know what it's going to do at any given moment. It started off jam pack full of stuff to do - soccer, Touch a Truck downtown, playdate in the park, grocery shopping, Dancing in the Street and ending with our Holy Hour at church. However, after the playdate, I think we were both pretty tuckered out and have been home since. Grocery shopping has been postponed until tomorrow, and we may not go to the Dancing in the Street celebration - perhaps next year. Went for a walk today at lunch and glad I'm did - not long after that it started raining like crazy! If I hadn't done it then, I know I wouldn't be going out after dinner for a walk (as much as I love the NW, I need to get over my aversion to walking in the rain!). I think what challenged me most today was my back - it hasn't really been healthy for 10 years now, and it's one of the first things in the morning that put a stop to exercise. I did try some stretching exercises and they helped initially, but by the time I go to work, it was just sore - and not the good kind you feel after a workout - the stressed kind. Sounds easy, doesn't it! But sometimes, it's not so easy to schedule in with a 4 year old. Of course, I haven't even been out of bed yet for an hour, I haven't done anything more than drink my 2 cups of water and log on - haven't even eaten yet! But it's still a good day! Why? This allowed me to do my shopping today with next week's meals in mind, especially the snacks which is where I need to focus on prep work for those. Mostly, over the last several months, I've started changing my eating habits, but with SP it's much more conscientious and the tracking really helps me understand what I'm eating, how much, and helps me see where I can flex. First, I would just like to say Thank You to everyone who has shown support - I've only been on SP for 5 days now, but I can see that it's going to end up being an LTR! Wed, 5 Aug 2009 09:37:41 EST Day 2 - need to find better snacks... LOL - I know that next week my fridge will be better prepared! This week, not enough vegetables to help with the munchies - ended up getting a granola bar at work. Could have been worse - it could have been the peanut M&Ms! Boy, then I calculated the coffee I got while in an off-site meeting - 190 calories just for the coffee - that ended up making my snack calories more than my lunch calories!! I think tomorrow I'm back to my regular coffee with n/f creamer and a bit of sugar - much more... Tue, 4 Aug 2009 22:59:29 EST Well, end of my first full day... Wow, and I actually tracked everything I ate, although I need to add a few items not on the list (like my ranch dressing and the protein powder I used). I'll have to add them tomorrow. But overall, not too bad for my first day. 140 calories OVER target and 30 carbs over as well. Tomorrow's going to be tough, I think, because of the whole snacking issue. I just read the article "11 Things Children Can Teach You About Weight Loss" and living with a 4 year old, I can say that this is absolutely true! I know that watching my son play is one of my greatest motivations for losing weight - I want to be able to have FUN with him, not sitting on a bench watching him. Don't get me wrong - I'm rarely on the sidelines when he's out playing - he won't let me. Today was football and baseball followed by frisbee. Yesterday was tennis and baseball. <B... Yes, fat...not just overweight - I used to be just overweight, but after my son was born, I made lots of excuses to not exercise. I have, however, recently committed myself to a lifestyle makeover, starting with the foods I buy and eat.
