But I knew I was in trouble, so by the end of the week I was slowly getting back in the groove and ended up losing 3 pounds! Woohoo...My body seems to like me being inconsistent...so long as I don't go overboard on calories. Weigh in was a shot in the arm, though - I'm much more motivated to exercise this week - not quite up to my 4 mile stamina, but going strong at 2 miles/24 minutes. ... Mon, 9 Nov 2009 22:25:05 EST Let's start the Winter Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2524336 This is it! I've been here 3 months, lost 25 pounds (1/3 of the way to my goal). So I've been trying to figure out how to approach the winter months - those times where I usually sit around a gain weight because it's too cold or too wet to do anything physical. PFAUGH! No such thing...just do it indoors! I've been stead in October on the walking, hitting my goal of 15 miles a week. So I came up with my plan of action:

November - 20 miles/week by end of month
December - 2... Sun, 1 Nov 2009 11:27:22 EST Sometimes, you just need to get started...the rest takes care of itself. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2504903 This morning was interesting, from a mental standpoint. I woke up this morning, having prepared myself the night before for walking 4 miles with the WATP fat burning dvd, then rolled over after my alarm clock went off and slept for another hour. Hey, I was tired. But after I couldn't sleep any more, I did get up and convinced myself to just walk maybe one mile...but then stop because I just didn't feel like doing a whole four miles, and I was pretty wiped out still from yesterday (very hec... Sat, 24 Oct 2009 16:48:22 EST Embracing Pizza http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2488621 I just have to confess - I just ate an entire Amy's frozen pizza - and not the small individual ones either! Basically, I just downed 3 servings of yumminess, even if the crust was a bit crispy for my taste. And here's the kicker - that was lunch. I now have no room for dinner. But I knew that going in, and I enjoyed every bite. No I'm not falling off the wagon. I'm just enjoying one of life's pleasures - I guess pizza is my comfort food and I don't eat it nearly as much as I used to! ... Sun, 18 Oct 2009 17:09:29 EST Down, but not out. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2469765 Well, tricky week this! I was doing great until Wednesday night when I left the office feeling the sore throat that always bodes ill. Went home, took some garlic, tea and Vitamin C. Took a day of rest, more garlic, tea and vitamin C. Limited my eating since I wasn't going to be exercising, and felt much better the next day. Went to work, no problems, looking like I beat the bug out with a quick 1-2-3 punch. Then, I went to get JP from school and ran into the dad of one of his friends - ... Sun, 11 Oct 2009 10:28:56 EST 2 month marker on SparkPeople... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2451676 Wow! Doing great! Lost 18.8 pounds so far - almost below that 200lb marker - next week's weigh-in will be a whole new set of numbers for me! This is also my 25% marker, so I'm a quarter of the way there! WooHoo!! Thank you SparkPeople - I don't think I could have done it without you. I'm feeling motivated, I have a lot more energy, I actually look forward to exercise now, and I'm not worried as much about the winter/rainy season because I have Curves and I bought the Walk Away the Pound... Sun, 4 Oct 2009 17:01:31 EST I did it! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2445519 I gave myself a new commitment - I joined Curves this week and had my first training on the circuit today - it felt great! 3-4 times a week and I think I'll make it through winter without gaining, as I traditionally do! I also bought some walking videos for those really yucky winter weekends and mornings when I need to get up and get going...

Who knows...maybe by next year, I'll actually talk about the possibility of running...NAH!

Have a great rest of your week! Thu, 1 Oct 2009 22:16:44 EST I really can do this! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2424480 It's been a challenge, but I know now that I really can do this. Not only can I do it, but I can lose more than I originally planned. I've lost nearly 15 pounds and realized - that's ALREADY 25% of my goal. My goal was 160, but let's face it, I can go down to 145 - I just never thought I could, much less in a year. That will be a total weight loss of 70 pounds off my starting weight. I just didn't want to dream that big - to think that I could be at such a low weight seemed to be the imp... Wed, 23 Sep 2009 23:10:59 EST Back at it again...after a very stressful week. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2399834 Well, it's been a while - I was off SP most of last week - just too much work and didn't want to spend every waking minute on the computer. Staying up late left me too tired to work out much, and ended up eating to cope with the stress - not way over the top eating, but enough that I gained back 2 of those pounds I worked hard to lose. Lost track of keeping track, as well. But I'm back at it again. Looks like this week will be just as stressful, but I'll deal with it better than I did las... Mon, 14 Sep 2009 20:44:05 EST Well, the summer is over... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2384301 LOL! I spent the Labor Day weekend watching it rain, hearing about tornadoes touching down in Enumclaw, and listening to the sounds of my upstairs bathroom floor getting torn out. All in all, not bad! I finished one book and got halfway through another. Did absolutely NO exercise, didn't bother cleaning (why, when the handyman was tracking so much through the house), and pretty much just hung around the house all weekend. This is life when my son is visiting his dad - I just shut down an... Tue, 8 Sep 2009 22:59:39 EST Keeping it short today... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2371932 Had a great walk at lunch - I remembered a small trail that's a block over from work and it was a quick 10 minute hike uphill, plus another 15 minutes to get there and back again to the office. Shorter than normal, but good exertion and very peaceful when you have a small "forest" in the middle of town!

I'm looking forward to this weekend and getting some menus planned into my menu planner, to practice some new exercises on my exercise ball, and to get back to doing my pilates. B... Thu, 3 Sep 2009 21:01:10 EST Measurements of Success... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2369497 Today is one month - I joined SP on 8/2. I took my body measurements and lost 1 inch off the waist, 2 inches off the hips! My pants aren't so snug and by next summer, they'll all be donated.

Goals not achieved yet - consistent exercise both cardio and strength training. I did really well last week and the week prior, but this week I fell off the wagon, as it were. Haven't done any pilates or other strength training. I've done cardio 2 out of 4 days this week, but even still I'... Wed, 2 Sep 2009 23:45:35 EST Wow...almost went over the top today... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2366456 Of course, lunch was just a guesstimate - went out for Thai food and had ginger tofu. Only ate about 1/2 the rice, most of the sauce stayed on the plate, and had it with tofu. I ate all the veggies, but still, the tofu added a lot of calories. Likely, what I tracked was more than what I ate, but still...it's pretty high. But well worth it, except there was something in it my body didn't like too much, so I don't know that I'll be going back there anytime soon!

Of course, since ... Tue, 1 Sep 2009 23:31:07 EST Feeling slow tonight... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2363177 I only did 20 minutes of cardio today - my walk at lunch. Feeling tired - woke up in the middle of the night about 5 minutes before someone blew a couple of boxes of fireworks (I didn't have it nearly as bad as my co-worker who was 2 houses down from the display) - mind you, it was 2AM. So yeah, feeling a bit tired.

Tracked well with food today, but had a tough time at dinner because yesterday I didn't finish prepping my food for the week, so was doing that while trying to cook,... Mon, 31 Aug 2009 23:30:14 EST I am exhausted... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2359853 And I didn't even exercise today! Between a near meltdown at Mass this morning with my son to countless hours on my feet preparing food for the week, and not even getting it all done (no veggie packs yet), I'm tired. JP has been pushing buttons all day and I'm trying to stay on an even keel, but I didn't even get out to walk. In a way, I can't wait for him to be old enough to be left in the house alone so when I need a walk, I can JUST TAKE ONE instead of it turning into an issue and havin... Sun, 30 Aug 2009 23:23:00 EST Suprise opportunities! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2357166 Today had some great surprise opportunities for exercise - first was my son's soccer lesson. It was parents day and initially, JP said he didn't want me in there, but the coach had all the kids call in all the parents, so I was able to play soccer with him - had a good sweat built up by the end of class! It was great fun to play bulldogs and puppies or space aliens with soccer balls. Unfortunately, I didn't wear the best shoes, otherwise I know I could have gotten an even better workout. <... Sat, 29 Aug 2009 21:39:51 EST Tracking at the Fair http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2355120 So we went to the Fair today and I wasn't sure how to track - seriously, it's not like you can just pull up Fair food - although I think I found a reasonably healthy option in a veggie gyro. Then tracking 4 hours of "walking" - which I think really came down to about 1 hour of walking and 3 hours of waiting while JP went on rides. Dinner was delicious and only a little overkill - went to Red Robin and ordered my usual Gardenburger sans sauce, but added on some cheese and BBQ sauce on the si... Fri, 28 Aug 2009 23:18:25 EST It's been almost a month... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2349613 Next week will be my one month marker on SP. The last two weeks have seen a definite increase in my exercise routine - getting out for walks most days and if not, trying to fit in other exercise. The food tracking thing has become easier over time, now that a lot of my favorites are in my "favorites" menu. I've even started putting in the recipes I cook most often so I can track their nutrition value and add them to my meal planner. My desk is currently covered with magazines and recipe b... Wed, 26 Aug 2009 22:34:21 EST I'm a food snob... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2346687 But that's okay by me. We had an lunch meeting and I brought my own food as planned because I don't like lunchmeat. Sure enough, I was asked why I wasn't joining the line and I simply said that I don't eat that. I explained that I don't eat much meat (new term I learned here on SP is "flexitarian"), so when I do eat it, I want it to be good. To me, lunch meat does not qualify as "good". So someone jokingly said I'm a food snob. So be it - I care a great deal about what I put into my bod... Tue, 25 Aug 2009 22:47:13 EST Not as bad as feared... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2343642 I wasn't sure about exercise today - I stayed up too late last night watching Iron Man. I tried to only watch half of it, but I enjoyed it too much! When it was time to get up this morning, I fell back asleep and when I finally crawled out of bed, it was too late to do my pilates, so it was off to the shower and get ready for work. My first thought was, "oh, boy...not gonna get the exercise done today."

Lunchtime, I did take my walk to return some books to the library - good. <B... Mon, 24 Aug 2009 23:35:45 EST Today was a bit rough around the edges... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2340231 Two major tantrums later, I think JP is ready for bed. I had a list of things to do today, managed to get the shopping done - didn't have much choice on that, especially if I wanted to eat tomorrow! He was feeling well enough to go to the park today, so I had a good walk, but I'm pretty sure my pedometer didn't capture the uphill walking, which will be frustrating considering the hills around here...will have to figure something out - wish I could take the pedometers for "test walks". I'll... Sun, 23 Aug 2009 22:22:27 EST The "Burrito Roll"... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2336981 I found out today that my son likes to call the extra stomach rolls "Burrito rolls" - and let's face it, they are the size of a grande burrito! It adds a bit of humor to my weight loss journey. He's looking forward to the day when the roll is gone (or at least noticeably smaller - maybe just a standard "bean burrito" roll).

Well, I won't be getting my usual weekend walking in today, it looks like. My little guy threw up just before his dad arrived to pick him up and it was decid... Sat, 22 Aug 2009 14:34:30 EST Today is a slow day... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2334980 My son is not feeling well, so I'm staying at home. Not really inclined to exercise today either, knowing full well that I'll be doing a lot of walking tomorrow. A day of rest is a good thing. I did do my pilates this morning, I may do some cardio later, but I'm not pushing it. I've done a lot this week already.

I did, however, start looking at treadmills. My concern is that once the weather starts changing and the rain starts hitting, I'll have less desire to get outside and ... Fri, 21 Aug 2009 16:18:46 EST Pedometer update - and many miles to go... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2333117 Well, turns out I only walked 2.89 miles today - no where near the 4 miles/10,000 steps recommended. And this was with my newly added lunch time walk AND 2 hours walking around at the park for our annual company picnic. Unfortunately, it turns out that the pedometer isn't very accurate - it recorded 34 steps while I was DRIVING (I set it to 0 to test) - it recorded every bump I went over and whatever else jarred the pedometer. Anyone know a good pedometer that can actually distinguish betw... Thu, 20 Aug 2009 23:05:21 EST I bought my first pedometer. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2330221 After all, how else will I know if I'm hitting 10,000 steps a day? It will be interesting to see how close or far I am, now that I'm taking walks at lunch every day. Still have to figure out what to do when it starts raining - I don't mind walking in a light rain, but not a heavy downpour...and here in the NW, you just never know what it's going to do at any given moment. Although, this week it's definitely been sunny and I've been enjoying it, especially after the heat we had last month -... Wed, 19 Aug 2009 22:33:10 EST Someday... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2327463 Someday I'll be able to go for a walk after dinner without having an argument with my son about him wanting to do something else he earlier said no to. Someday we'll be able to make our evening plans and stick to them. Someday we'll be able to enjoy a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood without thinking about all the other things we would rather be doing, like playing baseball or knocking down the enemy castle or watching tv. Someday...just not today!
300

Bu... Tue, 18 Aug 2009 23:27:01 EST LOL - Still hungry... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2324063 I don't think grazing is for me...that's how I ended up eating today and it left me feeling hungry all day at work! I seem to feel better is I can sit down to a substantial meal 3 times a day rather than eating here and there and never quite filling up my stomach. I'm still trying to work out a good lunch schedule that gives me time to walk AND eat, rather than leaving me eating while I work and then not really paying attention to what I'm eating...hmmmm...

But on the bright side... Mon, 17 Aug 2009 21:08:01 EST Today's Goals... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2319952 Well, it's been a busy weekend, and it's only Sunday morning! Today's goals include Mass, Lector Training, grocery shopping, food prep, laundry, trip to the park and rearrange my room. The way it's set up now, I don't have enough room to exercise using the online videos - to exercise, I need to go into the loft, but then I can't follow the online stuff. I thought about moving my computer into the loft, but then it will be too cramped in there and I don't like having the computer and the TV... Sun, 16 Aug 2009 13:12:07 EST Today is a quiet day... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2318565 It started off jam pack full of stuff to do - soccer, Touch a Truck downtown, playdate in the park, grocery shopping, Dancing in the Street and ending with our Holy Hour at church. However, after the playdate, I think we were both pretty tuckered out and have been home since. Grocery shopping has been postponed until tomorrow, and we may not go to the Dancing in the Street celebration - perhaps next year. It runs til 10, but our Holy Hour is at 9 - we may still make both, but just not sure ... Sat, 15 Aug 2009 20:45:49 EST Glad I took the time... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2313810 Went for a walk today at lunch and glad I'm did - not long after that it started raining like crazy! If I hadn't done it then, I know I wouldn't be going out after dinner for a walk (as much as I love the NW, I need to get over my aversion to walking in the rain!). Eating was challenging - I'm hungry! LOL - not in a bad way, though. I'm used to eating larger portions, so eating at healthy portions is taking my tummy a bit to adjust and shrink. But what's more important is that even thoug... Thu, 13 Aug 2009 21:32:44 EST It was a challenge today... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2311001 I think what challenged me most today was my back - it hasn't really been healthy for 10 years now, and it's one of the first things in the morning that put a stop to exercise. I did try some stretching exercises and they helped initially, but by the time I go to work, it was just sore - and not the good kind you feel after a workout - the stressed kind. What I think I really needed to do was my body scan exercise, but instead I went for a walk during lunch to go pick up my new reading glas... Wed, 12 Aug 2009 22:23:44 EST Went for a walk... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2308065 Sounds easy, doesn't it! But sometimes, it's not so easy to schedule in with a 4 year old. I chose to do a sitting meditation at lunch today, so I knew getting a walk in after dinner would need to be negotiated. Happily, my son understands my desire to exercise and lose weight (I showed him my belly roll today). He, in his own way, is encouraging me and is more agreeable to walking after dinner rather than playing with his knights or watching the TV. So let this be the first of many afte... Tue, 11 Aug 2009 23:28:57 EST Wow - how many of us don't even realize we HAD choices? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2302641 Okay, so I just read the article "The Healthy Lifestyle Path
The Start of the Journey" (at
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellnes
s_articles.asp?id=210
) and this really stopped me in my tracks! Why? Because as any parent knows, kids start to demand control in their lives around 1-2 years old. What do you think happens when they are not allowed to take control? When parents make all their choices for them? When they are told, even at this early age, that they CANNOT... Mon, 10 Aug 2009 10:25:39 EST It's a good day... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2300028 Of course, I haven't even been out of bed yet for an hour, I haven't done anything more than drink my 2 cups of water and log on - haven't even eaten yet! But it's still a good day! Why? Because I choose for it to be. I have a lot to do today still - finish folding and putting away the laundry, cleaning the loft (my son's castle is in the middle surrounded by knights), rearrange his room, vacuum, finish prepping my food for the week, go to church, run to the store for the tortillas and so... Sun, 9 Aug 2009 11:03:01 EST End of the first week... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2298625 This week, I focused on what it takes to meet the calorie/nutrition goals. This allowed me to do my shopping today with next week's meals in mind, especially the snacks which is where I need to focus on prep work for those. Mostly, over the last several months, I've started changing my eating habits, but with SP it's much more conscientious and the tracking really helps me understand what I'm eating, how much, and helps me see where I can flex. This is also helping me focus my cooking habi... Sat, 8 Aug 2009 17:11:05 EST Day 5 - I can do this! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2292374 First, I would just like to say Thank You to everyone who has shown support - I've only been on SP for 5 days now, but I can see that it's going to end up being an LTR! I'm looking forward to finding some local buddies for walking or even tennis (I'm not good, I just like to hit the ball!). I'm still excited about this, it still feels right, and I'm finding that tracking the food is really good discipline - even when I eat or drink something questionable, I'm not so much worried about the c... Thu, 6 Aug 2009 09:41:04 EST I don't feel like exercising... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2289303 I'm just too tired! I know - it's early - just barely 6:30. But this is one of my hardest obstacles to overcome - just doing it. My alarm went off, I hit the snooze. My snooze went off, I said 15 more minutes...then 30...then 45. I could barely open my eyes. So I sit there and think - well, obviously, you're tired. Get some rest - you need it.
Ahhh...but I also need to get up and exercise - without exercise, I won't accomplish my goals.
You can exercise later! You don't h... Wed, 5 Aug 2009 09:37:41 EST Day 2 - need to find better snacks... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2288408 LOL - I know that next week my fridge will be better prepared! This week, not enough vegetables to help with the munchies - ended up getting a granola bar at work. Could have been worse - it could have been the peanut M&Ms! Boy, then I calculated the coffee I got while in an off-site meeting - 190 calories just for the coffee - that ended up making my snack calories more than my lunch calories!! I think tomorrow I'm back to my regular coffee with n/f creamer and a bit of sugar - much more... Tue, 4 Aug 2009 22:59:29 EST Well, end of my first full day... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2285292 Wow, and I actually tracked everything I ate, although I need to add a few items not on the list (like my ranch dressing and the protein powder I used). I'll have to add them tomorrow. But overall, not too bad for my first day. 140 calories OVER target and 30 carbs over as well. Tomorrow's going to be tough, I think, because of the whole snacking issue. I'll have to figure out how best to handle that. I think the first week or two will be a lot of trial and error on calorie counting. T... Mon, 3 Aug 2009 23:40:14 EST This is feeling right... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2281980 I just read the article "11 Things Children Can Teach You About Weight Loss" and living with a 4 year old, I can say that this is absolutely true! I know that watching my son play is one of my greatest motivations for losing weight - I want to be able to have FUN with him, not sitting on a bench watching him. Don't get me wrong - I'm rarely on the sidelines when he's out playing - he won't let me. Today was football and baseball followed by frisbee. Yesterday was tennis and baseball. <B... Mon, 3 Aug 2009 00:50:01 EST Let the fun begin. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2280862 Okay, here I go. I'm 38 and single - let's face it, I'll probably remain single as long as I'm fat. Yes, fat...not just overweight - I used to be just overweight, but after my son was born, I made lots of excuses to not exercise. I have, however, recently committed myself to a lifestyle makeover, starting with the foods I buy and eat. I've increased my fruit/vegetable and whole grain intake a lot; I've switched away from most pre-packaged food-stuff, including pancake or biscuit mixes. H... Sun, 2 Aug 2009 16:39:33 EST
