Tue, 12 Jun 2012 21:09:49 EST A Very Good Sunday We did a road trip this morning to locate the Grange Hall where we will hold a Baby Shower next Saturday for the soon to arrive new Grand Daughter, Ruby. She is due in January, but in the Laural Highlands, roads can get tricky early. Still saw some great fall color on the trees. I was afraid we had missed it all, but I was rewarded with nice color and blue skies. On the way home, we decided to take a more scenic route as the interstate was having long traffic jams due to construction, yes o... Sun, 23 Oct 2011 15:04:39 EST Rain, chilly and the smells of autumn On a different note, it is chilly, 42 degrees and raining, pulling lots of the just starting to turn leaves off the trees. The dogs are on the covered deck, enjoying the fresh air and all the KONGS and Nyla bones. I lit a new Scentsy warmer in the living room, it is a Jack-O-Lantern, with pumpkin and spice scent wax. I find the scents in the house lift my mood. Will have to consider turning on the heat. I protest every autumn, not just the growing bill, but it means I have to admit winter is... Sat, 1 Oct 2011 12:07:31 EST Value Meals at home. I was inspired by another Spark member to create a meal today to share with family and friends at a cost of less than $5.00 per serving. When I first read her blog, I thought that would be fun and maybe a little challenging. So I decided all my ingredients would be readily accessible at any normal grocery store, no exotic ingredients, healthy, tasty and menu items I would serve and be happy to share.
I thought about what we like to eat, what I fix when the children and grand children... Sat, 17 Sep 2011 17:18:28 EST Inspiration comes around again In June of 2010 I had really given up. My clothes were all too tight, school had just ended and I was exhausted. I decided to just order the next size up in clothes. So when I found a great sale on pants that I love (twill like Dockers), I ordered 6 pair. Enough to get me through the week.
Then I went to classes for technology in the classroom around the state, choosing hotels with pools. I started swimming- just treading water in the deep end, for 2 hours every evening. I did this fo... Sun, 4 Sep 2011 10:56:20 EST Recipes for success I have always been a recipe nut, a collector, a experimenter, a sampler of others' efforts. After seven months of Sparking, I have a new outlook on recipes. I am still an experimenter, but with a different motivation. I actively seek recipes with outstanding taste and superior nutrition. I still collect, but now I look at every recipe with an eye toward improvement. I am constantly looking toward "improving" recipes to make them easier, healthier, and with outstanding taste and appearance.... Sun, 2 Jan 2011 20:28:15 EST Five months and Counting We have had unseasonable cold this past week. Wind chill at night in the single digits or low teens with high winds. Biting cold, and I just could not make myself go swim. To come out of the warm Wellness Center after 2 hours in the water, even when well dried, I just could not do it. But I have worked with my Leslie Sansone walking DVDs to the limit my knees will tolerate. I have been faithful to my eating. And Five months into this adventure and life change, I find that I really think dif... Fri, 10 Dec 2010 22:25:53 EST Picking apples Today, we are picking apples from the Winesap tree. It stands in the front yard, it shades the kitchen all summer. Some years it blooms but has few apples. Some years, the apples are knotty and all of them belong to the deer. This year, they are beautiful, deep dark red with hazy blue. They make great pies, baked apples, sauce, Brown Bettys, Apple Crisp. They are my idea of the perfect apple. I grew up with orchards all around. When I started to design and build this house, my Dad plante... Sat, 30 Oct 2010 15:12:24 EST The smell of Toast We had dinner at home, nice reasonable choices. That was hours ago, and I am not hungry. I did indulge in a cup of hot Cherry Herbal Tea after grocery shopping. No sweetener, just my usual unsweetened tea. DH said he was now hungry again, so he was going to have a bowl of cereal. Great. I hear him in the kitchen, and then it hit me. That smell, that wonderful smell. He was out there making toast. Now I grew up in a house where my mom made bread every week. She made all our bread, and cinna... Tue, 26 Oct 2010 21:50:54 EST 50 Things 1. As a teacher, many people assume I have free summers, but this year I spent 11 days at an education natural science camp. Took my husband and 2 grand daughters. It is a totally different kind of education from the self contained special education class I teach all year. Then, I immediately left for a week of technical instruction technology class, to learn how to better use multiple technologies to develop 21st century lessons that apply to the...
