MOM1014's SparkPeople Blog MOM1014's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 3 Postive thing: things I am grateful for My family,my church and my real and cyber friends. These thoughts keep me positive
and smiling. there are more, but I was asked to state only 3. Wed, 22 Feb 2017 19:48:24 EST THREE years at or below goal I guess I forgot to add in my 3rd year. Oh my. On Sept 1 2016 I hit 3 years of being at or below goal. I think once you do it a few years you finally learn that while you can gain ounces
it is best not to gain lbs. Frankly I owe it all to staying with SparkPeople and faithfully
keeping track of my food intake and exercise.

My exercise has slowed a bit because of my back problems. I do still to core exercises given to me by intense Physical Therapy (thank you Medicar... Wed, 1 Feb 2017 14:02:04 EST Two Years AT Or BELOW GOAL TODAY!!

I am proud to say I've stayed at or below goal for two years as of today. If you will read my blog from last year you will be able to see most of my journey.

Since last Sept 1, 2014 I came perilously close when I would hit goal once in awhile.
I started quite a few years ago weighing 195 lbs. My goal was 165 lbs. That was until I found I was 5'5 1/2 inches tall and not almos... Tue, 1 Sep 2015 15:20:43 EST One Year Under Goal Today! Before Picture 2008

The picture above was taken in late 2008. In late 2009 I had a double by pass operation!
When I read my report it mentioned the "O" word. Obese!!!

It has taken me since then to go from 195 lbs to 157 lbs goal weight.
Talk about your turtles. I wrote another blog about my health issues and changing my
original goal of 165 to 157 because I found I was an inch and a... Mon, 1 Sep 2014 15:31:59 EST My workout Shake up Through a lot of SP reading I have finally figured out I cannot do the same old exercises everyday. I've been doing 40 minutes a day on the treadmill. One week my ankle hurt and I pushed through. I paid for it with some pain and healed it with rest over that weekend but went right back to it.

I have decided my body is on to me. It has come to expect my food intake and exercise to stay the same and has decided "I'll show her". Scale isn't budging much despite my "doing everyth... Wed, 17 Jul 2013 16:20:31 EST A Journey to Health I believe I started on SP over 5 years ago. I must admit it has been quite an experience. However, all along while not losing as quickly as most, I kept my eye on the goal.

During this time I had gallbladder surgery. (lost fast for awhile as fats sent food flying through me). The following year came a double by-pass. This was an eye opener as when I read my report I actually saw the words OBESE. Wow bad enough to have to recover from that, but that word really stuck in my craw... Sun, 30 Jun 2013 18:47:02 EST Diet Sabotage I am fortunate to have the kind of friends who realize I am doing my best to lose
weight.

I have come to the conclusion that the only person to sabotage my weight loss efforts lives in my house. Since I am a widow, that would be me. I have also learned that if I bring it into the house I will eat it.

Controlling what I eat when I am out with friends is much easier. Well shucks and guess what? I am a secret saboteur. NO More however!!! I am doing my darndes... Sat, 22 Jun 2013 18:21:48 EST Reason to Be Proud I went over to BAM this afternoon and bought a copy of SELF magazine. (September Issue). I only did it because of a Diet Club mentioned in SP and I knew the exercises featured someone we know.

I felt such a sense of pride, because the pullout for exercises had wonderful pictures of Nicol Nichols. I also felt a wee bit possessive because Nicole is our very own SP trainer and we have a proprietary interest (to my mind).

You look fantastic Nicole and SELF has very good ta... Fri, 31 Aug 2012 16:31:57 EST Count your Blessings Within months of each other my eldest son had surgery for cancer and my youngest just a few days ago, a massive heart attack. A mother does worry.
The are alive and both have great attitudes to do what is necessary to be healthy.

Well I believe we all can look at our attitudes when it comes to our own health. I have been slow losing and I've seen from my sons that I have been somewhat lazy once my own crises have passed. Wake up gal I've been saying to myself. Allow the ... Wed, 2 Feb 2011 16:56:13 EST Today I was truly Inspired I took the cutest stuffed lamb over to one of my church and Hospice friends at a rehab/nursing home.
A couple of months ago this fantastic 88 year old suffered a massive stroke. The first time I visited she wanted to give up, as son her wanted a feeding tube (she couldn't swallow) She told me NO, in no uncertain terms. Word came up that her tests showed she could swallow and the tide turned. She is legally blind and has lived alone (with only son taking her to dinner and shopping once ... Sat, 3 Apr 2010 21:09:36 EST HOW I'VE EMBRACED THE SPARK! I started slowly with spark people. I was one of those who thought, well I'll follow the "rules" and I can certainly do it on my own. I didn't join a team for a while. Then I formed my own team.
After that I branched out and joined a couple of teams...left them, in search of more compatible to my age group, an finally found a couple of teams I have stuck with through this wonderful journey.
In almost two years I've not lost a huge amount of weight (approximately 15lbs), howeve... Tue, 6 Oct 2009 08:13:51 EST Neat chart I receive via email Share this Chart with everyone
Apples Protects your heart prevents constipation Blocks diarrhea Improves lung capacity Cushions joints
Apricots Combats cancer Controls blood pressure Saves your eyesight Shields against Alzheimer's Slows aging process
Artichokes Aids digestion Lowers cholesterol Protects your heart Stabilizes blood sugar Guards against liver disease
Avocados Battles diabetes Lowers cholesterol Helps stops strokes Controls blood pressure Smoothes skin ... Mon, 7 Sep 2009 18:44:05 EST Saboteurs I am trying to stay away from sweets. Someone on one of my member sites mentioned that people are always saying "just one piece won't hurt you". I told her I have found a good way to get around that and that is to not mention you are on a diet and in particular do not say you are off sweets. Reach for the fruit and the bottled water (if they have it) and just keep your mouth shut. People don't tend to notice unless YOU mention it, then it is fair game. If you do your own thing quietly, t... Sat, 5 Sep 2009 11:34:56 EST Boot Camp Completed YAY; Because this time I finished a boot camp. The last two I entered, I was unable to complete all because of injuries and a surgery. Well nothing interfered this time despite a sore foot (minor compared to determination) 9 and cravings I gave in to.

I did everything I was supposed to do EXCEPT stay focused on my eating habits. And although my tracking said I was exercising too much for what I was eating, I lost only one lb during the month. The inches disappointed m... Sat, 30 May 2009 15:14:01 EST The Tasty Convenience of Oven Roasted Beer Chicken Last night I mentioned I was preparing beer chicken for dinner, and I got a few "how" inquiries.
Start with a 3 to 4 lb chicken. 4 is best.
Clean inside and out then rub with olive oil. I also use a lemon pepper rub on the outside.

Preheat the oven to 350 then pull out your handy dandy chicken roster. (it has a well to add 1/2 can of beer) I was out so used white wine for flavor to the well.

Plac... Sun, 24 May 2009 13:56:12 EST Over half way through bootcamp I am doing surprisingly well keeping up with the challenges; so much so that I do believe I need to refocus on my eating habits. I skipped my veggie tonight and this reminds me that it is not too late in the evening to go fix myself a salad, as I am craving something sweet.
Guess I must be glad I got to the challenges later tonight, as needing to blog made me realize that a salad actually sounds good. I am building my salad in my mind right now. So off I go to build it for real. Yum <... Wed, 20 May 2009 19:20:40 EST REDEDICATING Ok I HAD done really well but I have slacked off on my food portions the past few weeks!

I just entered an 8 week challenge as I almost end a Mother's Day Challenge doing none too well. I will also be starting a new challenge on The Hospice team where I am leader (after the Mother's Day Challenge).

With all these challenges you would think I'd be lean and mean by now . NOT SO!
HOWEVER, I sat myself down after deciding to join the new Swimsuit challenge, and I gave ... Sun, 3 May 2009 13:47:40 EST 40 Steps to a better life (right now) This is not mine! It was sent to me. However I just had to pass it on as I plan to add this to my motivation list. I just love it!

Well worth reading, rereading, and TRYING to remember the ones that seem important to you. . .

40 Tips for Better Life - 2009

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

3. Buy a DVR, tape y... Wed, 8 Oct 2008 10:33:43 EST Quote from Audrey Hepburn On Being Beautiful Below is a wonderful
poem Audrey Hepburn wrote
when asked to share her 'beauty tips.'
It was read
at her funeral years later.

For attractive lips ,
speak words of kindness...
For lovely eyes ,
seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure ,
share your food
with the hungry.
For beautiful hair ,
let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.
For poise ,
walk with the knowledge that you never... Wed, 9 Jul 2008 18:24:50 EST What My Spark Friends may not know about me I joined a team today called "anyone over 70" and it dawned on me that my most favorite team mates don't know that about me. Oh no, that is not something I would hide. Actually I am very proud of it. I am 71 as of this past April. I am proud of it, because I survived an aortic valve replacement surgery 9 years ago and and am energizer bunny with 4 leaky heart valves. It matters to me that I made it to 71 with faith in tact and with so many problems, faced and behind me.

I have... Thu, 29 May 2008 17:51:05 EST My God Box You may wonder what this is all about. A team mate of mine was having some difficulties, so I wrote that I would keep her in prayer and mentioned my "God Box".

Whenever my sons had problems I would say "put it in the God Box". This has worked for us for many years. They in turn, remind me who is in control. One day while browsing in and exotic store, with candles and scents etc. I actually came across a box about 4" by 5" by 2" deep (as seen above). Perfect! I bought one for ... Thu, 8 May 2008 14:43:09 EST Using the skills we already possess I have already mentioned I am an 11th Hour Hospice Volunteer..well into my eighth year. I volunteer for VNA and Hospice of Indian River County in Vero Beach Florida. For those who don't know what that is; it is comforting patients and family in final hours of the patients lives. It is very rewarding.
However much I contribute, I am well aware of what a wonderful TEAM we have and that no one entity can do it ALONE! Our team is Nurses, counselors, Aides, chaplains, and bereavement. W... Sun, 30 Mar 2008 13:14:57 EST Hospice workers love to give and receive hugs Why not think of our spark team as an all enveloping hug. Just as we love and care for patients, we also need to love and care for ourselves in the same manner. Start treating yourself as you do patients and families and before you know it the stress will lessen. This week give yourself a hug.
Give yourself permission to take more time for yourself. Lose yourself in some of the motivational articles on, then give yourself permission to just relax and say "job well d... Thu, 3 Jan 2008 22:50:37 EST
